Well after having my HD7 since launch I returned it today and went back to my HD2 running Android.
The last straw for me was using Youtube and seeing the lousy video playback..in a centered screen. WTF is that? Totally unacceptable in my book.
While I like the look of the UI, theres just something about it that got tiresome.
Real Cons for me were.
I really dislike IE.
Youtube.
Battery life.
No LED notifications.
Amount of animations to get something done.
No Google Maps.
Homescreen tiles. While pretty, because most tiles are the same color I found it confusing to quickly choose what I wanted.
Camera was a toss up. Some photos were great, some not.
I never got around to playing games on it because battery life was so bad.
Anyway you get the idea. I gave it a shot and I will be keeping an eye on it.
I hope it works out for all you others.
Good for you. I don't think you are set to be an early adopter anyway.
This OS is still in its infancy. So, I would say you guys should hold off on getting the WP7 until the next version.
I, for one LOVE this OS and I do not have any issues for the functions that I use this phone on a daily basis... Phone Call, Internet, Mails, Movies and Music. No issues what so every. I also use the camera, and if at all, thats the only only issue I have compared to the HD2. I think the camera should be improved a bit more.
Agreed
I do have to agree that the OS is still new and has some bugs to be worked out, but over all I really enjoy the HD7 and WP7. The OS is simple and for myself was ready for something a little simpler them the current OS systems out there. I have found it in some ways to be a blending of the Android and IPhone, but still remaining Windows. The camera is a little difficult and touchy to get good pics, but hey it's a phone.
I think in the months to come we will see updates from MS and they will adress some of the small issues. MS has invested alot money into the development of WP7, and feel and hope that MS will really put the resources needed to futher develope the firmware/software.
Sorry to hear that but hey it wasn't meant to be a fully loved OS by everybody.
Btw what are you going back to ? (or forward)
Personally, I am very satisfied with the OS so far and I am in a long run with Microsoft on this one. If other OSs aren't catching up in terms of speed (besides functionality) I doubt I will break away from WP7 any time soon. Me being more the music/browsing/e-mail type of guy it does perfectly what others haven't been able to reach yet.
i have to agree on some points. I do like the fact it's "speedy" but really dislike about camera (but that is not a OS issues but HTC's, i believe). considering the platform being only a few weeks (almost a month) old, it's got good start. Just as Nokia N900 when it first came out, there were issues. they will be address as time pass by. Microsoft just need a bit of support from all of us to really expand their market.
I think having Apple, Google and Microsoft in the mix will keep different inovation to come into the market.
i'm sorry for your experience but i guess no single solution will make everyone happy.

would be interested to know what Android web browser has that WP7 IE does not?
speed is the same, rendering is the same, Android has a tendency to "block render" a bit more than IE on slow sites, overall same experience between the two.
Also, Youtube is an application for WP7, it is not part of WP7 so judging the OS based on a crappy app is not a fair evaluation of its capabilities.
I am usually streaming youtube vids from home while connected to my WIFI and quality is pretty decent, got a bit worse over slow 3G but don't see how it could better with Android.
guys its personal preference and if some one likes to RUN android on a machine which is not made for it.. i will rest my case....
why do u want to run android on a WM device when there are so many android device in the market...
all the best to u my friend.... and the only valid reason u had was the youtube app... which ic not even WP7 app... any way all the best..
I've considered returning my HD7 many times. What's really keeping me from returning my phone is the potential. The UI on WP7 is beautiful. If you guys try the Flux and the IMdB apps, you'll know what I mean.
I'm keeping mine. I actually love it. I had a first gen iPhone and loved it. This HD7 and WP7 is every bit as good as that iPhone and is better in numerous ways. To me, it feels like a luxurious high-end Lexus or Infiniti. I find it to be the absolute best phone ever created. Just purely gorgeous from every aspect, externally and internally. WP7 is a sweet piece of kit.
Too bad you are giving up on it. The next update will likely solve your concerns. I knew what would be *initially* lacking in WP7 and still find it pure bliss.

+1. I'm willing to do without a few features for another month or so till the update, because this phone is fantastic. Once the updates starts taking care of more and more issues being one of the first WP7 (specifically HD7) owners will be so worth it.
I been from Nokia apple android and now the Hd7
So yeah I have had all of them Each has the goodies and the baddies
although I am more inclined towards android.. ( hope nokia ditches symbian and goes with their meego which is also linux based like android.. or just go with android )
WM7 and HD 7 is the lovable although i do agree they they to update the OS which I am hoping will be next year
Must admit thought that Microsoft has taken the best of both android and apple with WM7 so fingers crossed that the updates will sort us out

Its just to hold me over till the Nexus S comes out. I have no problem with the HD2 running Android. The size is great. I also have the N1, but prefer this form factor. And it wasnt "just" youtube. It was many things.

I agree with you on many, but not all.
I took some pictures last night, and I have to say the button to use ( like a camera ) is the most annoying thing ever, the HD2 / I phone and I think many phone on screen touch button was the best, you tap it, it auto focuses and walla good pics, I took 15 pictures last night in a low light condition with flash, not one is clear, every pic came out blurry, then I realized its because i move the phone a tiny bit when attempting to press the worst button created for taking pictures.
I still have 10 days left before I can return mine, going to contemplate.

My thoughts exactly. I knew what I was getting, and what I wasn't, and I love it!
I find it a bit strange as well to go back to Android on the HDS - why not the Desire HD - same phone but actually made for Android?!
I love the new Windows Phone 7 OS, but the HTC HD7 really is a piece of s**t. Ive got to send mine away for repair already due to the power button getting stuck in, not exactly what you'd call a high end quality product. Ive had plenty of HTC phones, since the days of the XDA 1, and to be honest they have all been utter s***e. Im definately never going to buy another HTC product, I suppose thats what you get for buyin stuff that comes from China.

Most phones and most electronics come from China. The iPhone, designed and developed in the USA, is made in China. Most Sony phones...Japanese phones...are made in China. Pretty much any electronic equipment you own is likely made in China. HTC is a Taiwan company and is the major producer of nearly all the major phones from most companies. They made all the Palm devices prior to the Pre and Pixi...not sure who makes the Pre and Pixi now. Apple has always used Foxconn ...a Chinese company... for production of the iPhone and most, if not all, of their other products. MS used a Chinese producer for the Zunes. HTC is a similar producer. They are contracted by a number of electronics makers to produce their products. The HTC quality has always been quite good. But, until recently, that quality has nose dived a bit...for whatever reason.
My HTC HD7 is an outstanding phone. The quality is exemplary. But it took 3 other, defective, HD7s to get the good one. I feel my HD7 is like a high-class, high-end automobile in look, feel and construction.
Hi guys,
Using my HD7 for the last 5 days and until now everything runs fine
In my opinion this is an outstanding phone. Excellent quality and the new SO is very good for my use (professional and personal)
Of course some things must be corrected by MS, let's wait for the updates that all people are waiting
So first hello everyone I just joined this community
I am actually just getting my first android phone, and I was looking around for something interesting
and found out that there is a phone like Nexus 5 which is capable of running all sorts of different OSes
like ubuntu, sailfish, firefox, android of course,... But since nexus 5 is a phone from 2013 I just didn't like the
idea of getting a phone which could become obsolete this very year in terms of specs.
So I was wondering where is Nexus 6 compared to Nexus 5 in terms of running all these differenet OSes,
and generaly in its support for modding and such...
thx

Well it has many custom ROM options as does Nexus5, official multirom, first to get updates etc.. But unfortunately, it doesn't have Firefox or Ubuntu or sailfish. They're made by multirom developer and I dont think there's been much done w those. I've tried them on my nexus 7 and wasn't impressed. So I wouldn't run it even if were offered. 6 is bigger but as far as specs.. That's when I hit Google. Lol
Got a 6,2013 7, 2013 7 LTE. I love my nexus. Can't go wrong. I still have the galaxy nexus from years ago.

Putting aside the issue of running non-Android OSes -- which comment #2 covers pretty well -- both the N5 and the N6 support Android-based custom roms very well. Both have unlocked bootloaders so you can load anything that will run on the hardware and flash a factory image of stock Android so you're back to where you started (including going back to various earlier Android versions.)
I've had a Nexus 5 since December, 2013 and it's been excellent -- A++. And I don't think it will be obsolete for at least another year (meaning we'll have updates from Google.) Add to that the exceptional value: you can pick up a new one on eBay for about $200 -- I think -- don't hold me to it.
I've also had a Nexus 6 since March of this year and, while I'm happy with it and wouldn't send it back, I must say that it has some issues. It has run very hot a few times. Read some reviews -- they're not all good. Plus, it's much more expensive than the N5. I like them both but, considering price, the N5 blows away the N6, IMHO.
Ah I see, well I think I'll first have to check them out hands on because N6 by specs seems to be huge and everyone says so, while looking on the pictures it doesn't really seems like that and I have used phones with 4 inch screens until now so really not sure about this ??

If it seems large at first you will get used to it. That big sexy screen will win you over
The more you use it, the better you'll like it!
I think the specs for the OnePlus Three for the price are AMAZING and unbelievable, it's almost $150 less than the Nexus 6P, with 2016 flagship hardware, and the leaked pictures show it to be a very high quality crafted device. The new Three looks like a larger HTC 10, which is fine by me, as the 10 is a great smartphone.
But...
My biggest gripes with OPO are the slow Android updates. I recall Lollipop taking for god damn ever to officially make it out for the original One, like 6 months, or you could have installed the alpha CM11 at the time, which was pretty buggy until the bugs were worked out, obviously, but the official OnePlus One Lollipop OS update took a very long time.
This OnePlus Three will be lucky to see Android N within 90 days after the Nexus phones get it first in October, or you can install the alpha CM14 sooner on it, and live through all the kinks and bugs, that will have, while waiting for OPO to release N.
I thought one of the big features on these OPO phones being AOSP based, would have been super fast Android updates, not Nexus fast updates obviously, but at least faster than the skinned versions of Android like HTC, LG, Samsung, etc... but that hasn't been the case. I thought OnePlus would have the latest version of Android on them within like 30 days or so after Nexus phones, in reality they are worse than Samsung.
Bottom line; Great flagship hardware for a budget price. Beautiful design.
But...software is really amateur for an official professional phone release. I'd rather Cyanogen be back on board creating a stable pro CM13S for this phone. Oxygen OS still seems like some weekend development project.
OnePlus came late with their Android6.0 update for the OP2, so I share your concerns.
But the custom development for the OP3 will be great, so many ROMS there before the official updates.
And many other brands are also slow with updates, or even slower. (not an excuse for OnePlus )
I will go for the OP3 because:
to go for a device with guaranteed faster updates you limit your device choice, you will most likely pay a lot more, and the specs won't be much better, and the XDA development will most likely be worse.
So (expecting) slow updates is a legit disadvantage, but it doesn't win from the advantages in my opinion.
Good points thanks
Now let's see some real hands on reviews. How good is the AMOLED screen being in 1080p ? Is the build quality as high and great like HTC 10 ? Speaker sounds ? Feel in hand ?
I know hardware wise it's gonna be a champ.
I guess you did not see the news?
http://www.xda-developers.com/oxygenos-open-sourced-ahead-of-oneplus-3-launch/
Will that news get us Android N much faster ? I wanna see the OnePlus Three get Android N like 30 days after the Nexus phones, then i impressed.
I just got the one plus two yesterday, found out about the 3 two days after I ordered, ugh. No worries though, I believe it will be released by the 14th and that is well within my return period!
I can't even explain how cool just the box it comes in is! This is quality I would pay s7 prices for, hands down. I keep looking around for cops every time I pick up the phone, feels like I stole it! But seriously, the OTA's don't bother me a bit, they'll get here when they get here! I feel like the development here on xda will be enough to tide someone over until we get a proper image. I feel like this OP3 is going to be the banger for one plus all together.
The 1080p question the OP had, I honestly feel like that's just a marketing ploy by the big boys, can the naked eye really tell on a phone, even this size? For me personally, I don't notice anything! I honestly think you'll be able to look past both of those once you feel the box...lol!
Sent from my ONE A2005 using XDA-Developers mobile app
while we all are at xda, i don't really care about update from OP. You bet - the very first custom ROM will be available in weeks from June 14th and android N will be on OP# in days.
As someone who has paid top dollar for Samsung flagship phones, all I can say is that updates are slow here, too - maybe even slower than Oneplus .
Sent from my SM-N910U using Tapatalk
obviously it will be slower getting ota's compared to nexus devices. but the op3 should have a good dev community so i wouldn't worry.

I wouldn't count on that. The oneplus team is very small and it took them longer than lg and Samsung to release marshmallow.

I have gotten 2 updates for it so far. One after I turned it on and one yesterday I think just a minor update for security and gesture functionality. Camera is actually not too bad. For some reason tho in my room I'll get these black bars going across the camera but not with the wide angle lens. It doesn't appear outside or anywhere else tho and I don't know what in my room would cause they lol but it shows up in pictures. Outside pictures with good lighting came out really well maybe a lil too much highlight but with some updates it would be cool. I really wanted a 7T for the macro mode on the camera and surprise this one has a super macro mode that actually works pretty well too. I don't know if I can post photos in here or no I don't know how. Don't use this forum often as I was on iPhone life the last 2 years.

Yes,the features of the camera are great on paper but I've seen a lot of comparisons on YouTube and it seems to fall short compared to the Oneplus 7T for example but it can improve with updates and probably will.
I'm encouraged to hear you have gotten two updates already but am disappointed that Realme won't be giving Android 10 until q2 next year, that's quite late and they don't state anywhere their policy on the life of support which you would hope would be at least 2 years.

Yeah I'm not thrilled about Android 10 coming so late. I didn't even know there was an app so this makes everything way easier lol. Hopefully some nice custom ROMs will come out similar to oxygenOS. I'm not too keen on it myself, did a bit when I was younger but there are plenty of tutorials out there and XDA is quite useful of you have any questions.
Right now I'm just at the point where I need the phone to work and I need the manufacturer to support the OS of my device,
Currently have a Oneplus 6T and it's great for software, just got stable A10 yesterday morning on 1 year old device. If I was you I might start thinking of trading in your Realme for a OnePlus 7T or 7T pro.
The X2 pro is great on paper but I'm not sure about the software at all. Will be interesting to see some more reviews for the device especially as it comes out in the EU next week
I just switched to it today from my X. Will see how it does this week as a daily. Runs fornite mobile with a controller really well and COD mobile looks even better so smooth it's insane with highest graphics.

Hey Dude, cheers for the samples, they look good but I'm no expert.
Have looked at a lot of comparisons on YouTube and when they compare the camera on the x2 pro to that of a flagship like the p30 pro or iPhone 11 they generally say the x2 pro suffers in some areas.
I would say your photos look good but not amazing, maybe they aren't that sharp or the color is a bit off, maybe a bit noisy in areas, again no expert.
But how's the rest of the phone going,is the ColorOS any good,is it annoying,
How are the features etc ?
Still haven't pre ordered mine and not sure yet if I will

Have looked at a lot of comparisons on YouTube and when they compare the camera on the x2 pro to that of a flagship like the p30 pro or iPhone 11 they generally say the x2 pro suffers in some areas.
I would say your photos look good but not amazing, maybe they aren't that sharp or the color is a bit off, maybe a bit noisy in areas, again no expert.
But how's the rest of the phone going,is the ColorOS any good,is it annoying,
How are the features etc ?
Still haven't pre ordered mine and not sure yet if I will

Pictures aren't bad especially in good lighting. Idk if photos get compressed when uploaded so that could be another reason. ColorOS is okay it's like a iOS kinda vibe but very well Android. It's usable but you can't change launchers or set default apps. Some stuff on the phone is still in Chinese. No Google assistant you have breeno instead which isn't usable because all Chinese. They have their own iCloud type deal on the phone too which doesn't work well cause again Chinese. Battery life tho is really good so far one of the best phones I've had with battery life and the charging is unreal how fast it is. I also pull faster data speeds on my iPhone X than this phone. WiFi is fast but my T-Mobile data is half as fast or less than that compared to the same service on the iPhone . If they could get oxygenOS on this thing it would be a beast.

Thanks for the detailed insight,I do think most of these google related problems will not exist on the global EU version, there will be no Chinese on that and you should be able to set the default launcher, OxygenOS would probably be amazing on this phone,it all depends on the dev community, though things do seem fairly quiet so far for this phone on XDA,I'm sure it will gain some type of dev following

Even if no one makes custom roms for this phone would I still be able to flash the global ROM when it becomes available?

That I do not know for sure with Realme but I don't think you will have a problem,The hardware is the same so I would hope you could easily flash the global rom.
Keep an eye on the forums here for advice and maybe read elsewhere like reddit.
Oppo are launching Color OS 7 with Android 10 next week and Realme are launching this phone in India the same day. Seems unlikely to me that they'd hurt sales by not getting this OS to this phone a lot sooner than Q2 next year.
Full story on GSMArena
Regarding Android 10, the twitter account for Realme Spain confirmed that it will release on Q1 2020 for every Realme in Europe. So it's a bit earlier than expected.
This post is not demand a build for our phone, this post is not to get anybody upset it is just a question that I've had for many years.
I've owned every single Nexus device up until the Nexus 6P, and have owned every single pixel device... I remember that with each Nexus phone the support scene was so robust that you look forward to a new phone to come out and see development on it...
For some reason pixel phones are one of the only phones that don't get love from any custom ROM development out there.. you see that lineage OS does not support our phone and has not supported our phone since the Pixel 1 officially. Paranoid Android has not supported our phone at all since the Pixel 1 , And the last official update from them was in 2017.. why is it that our phone being one of the latest phones does not get love?
The main thing that I've heard is that our phone is too expensive to build for, but I have seen the OnePlus 7 pro have vast support in the community and it is almost up there as far as pricing goes as the pixel.
I have always been one to contribute to donations or to work that's worth donating to, dirty unicorns has been a great ROM, but if you think about it our selection of ROMs can be counted with one hand .
Make Google phones great again!
I also believe the pixels don't attract the custom rom enthusiasts like us they are made & sold & marketed to people to be a iPhone competitor also I feel a lot of developers are getting older & many devs just support a few phones that's it & there are not as many devs on the scene like there were years ago unfortunately I remember have my OG Droid from Verizon the support was crazy unfortunately I feel we have to look at it this way its a end of a era for google phones sad to say
Those custom roms are made to make our experience feel like Pixel. They take here and there from pixel feature. Since we are using pixel software, so what the point of having the custom rom? Kernel is more important. Thanks god we have artemis and kiri. Soon we will have Proton or maybe Sultan.
Btw we dont have TWRP support while there is for OP7Pro. Install a custom rom or make one is pain in the ass.
Because they consistently don't live up to expectations. Everybody keeps waiting for them to live up to hype and at least attempt to challenge others with hardware or respond to feedback and they continue to ignore that feedback. it's still in all right device, I like it it's overpriced as hell and I'm glad I waited a few months to get it, still tempted by the OnePlus 8 pro after leaving my 7 pro for this.

Better off going back to the 7 pro.It jus got Dual boot twrp. I'm running Oos and lineage as of this writing tomorrow might be different  . I got a 3xl and it lost twrp after Android 9 you can fastboot boot it with half the functions not working the 7t the same way an id imagine 8 pro be the same. Only way to have fun with Magisk on the 3xl Android 10 is to be running a user-debug build. Without the debug build magisk will let you overlay the system an look at your data but that's bout it. The way things look nowadays looking alot more locked down then they used to wait til Android 11 hits even more so is the case. Now Google going to build their own chipset like Samsung with help from Samsung Which will bring us one more step closer to Google Fuschia instead of Android
ROMs in general have gone down hill.
The need for them isn't really there. Early on, Android phones had tons of issues, shortcoming and limitations... ROMs were a way around that, to get the phones to work the way we wanted and the way they should have come out of the box.
Now? Most phones are really good, and there's not much to improve. ROM's don't really have much to offer any more, other than to a shrinking pool of users who want to tweak their phones more than they actually USE their phones...
Adding upon all comments above one of the reason is people are stuck with IOS. They don't know the actual power of Android. Who ever tries the Android are forced to go back to ios again because lack of facetime and other apps that are only available only ios

Realistically, what's the power of android these days? Yes, you can tweak icons and the status bar and stuff, which 99.99% of phone owners don't care about...
The differences between the platforms isn't as great as it once was... I am on an iPhone 11 Pro at the moment and its a great phone... I want to come back to Android at some point but the watch situation on Android is a joke. And for the Pixels... they just never live up to the hype. I love Samsung, but updates still suck. There is OnePlus but some of the features like Wifi calling don't work on ATT half the time...
I prefer Android overall, but if you want the complete package with a good watch, Apple has the better package.
I had high hopes for Essential but we saw where that went...
I wish that Google would put out a pixel without giant bezels, that didn't have a last generation processor, etc... They will put out a phone in November that's using the same specs as phones that came out last month...

Realistically, today, what does the average person need root access on their phone for? I haven't rooted or ROM'd in several years... The tinkerer in me wants to, but I never find any compelling reason to...
I just don't care enough about what font my Instagram icon uses...

I have a Galaxy Note 10+. One of the heavy flagship phones from last year. There's about 3 ROMS and the communication in the threads is just about non-existent.
It's kinda sad because I remember my Note 4 having a ****load of AOSP ROM options and this phone has 1 that hasn't been updated in months. I would love to root/flash a ROM on my phone but I think the main thing is a lack of developers. Most have probably moved on and don't see a point in developing custom ROMs when most phones nowadays are capable of doing almost anything. The main reason I rooted/flashed ROMs was for the ability to customize my phone to my liking.

Exactly, and today, so many stock phones allow most of the customization that ROMs used to have to provide... And if not, install a different launcher and there are your themes...

IMO Pixels don’t have the fan base of the type of enthusiast that install custom ROMs and such. Higher spec phones like OnePlus and stuff like they are more heavily modded i feel like because those types of people are attracted to the specs. Pixels don’t have specs that are anything to write home about. Where as a OnePlus with 12GB of RAM is pretty impressive.

That's probably it right there. The latest and greatest Pixel, uses specs that are already obsolete... Every year, they bring half year old specs and release their new phones with comparable specs to everyone else's specs that are already on the way out.
My thoughts below are mine, and mine only..
The reason you don't see as many custom roms here on xda imho is because it's no longer a hub that's a viable place for most roms to gain any value. the passion for development hasn't died. There are many great new features, and things users would love. Sure, the pixels are great out of the box, but you can say that for any flagship that has come out recently.
Don't get me wrong, xda is great, I'm just saying you shouldn't think devs and users have lost interest because their content isn't on xda.
I mean you're right,. It's different than the days of installing a ROM on a Droid x or something and actually seeing a notable difference between Moto blur and not. Or my note two with some of the different runs I could get on it. I don't know, I think I would like the freedom to make different apps different notifications so that I could customize notifications by app or by person a little easier for text messages. Little things like that that I feel like I used to get in some of those older arms but maybe not maybe I'm just misremembering or something.
