Hello everyone
Ive just bought a pre-owned SGS with 2.2 froyo, however its locked to the T-Mobile UK network. I am on Virgin UK, I entered my APN manually and my SIM Card works fine in it, but I cant find a "software Update" in Settings on Phone.
I bought it for Gingerbread, so I downloaded Kies but it says Its the latest Firmware and I only have 48 hrs to change my mind and return it and Unlocking it would invalidate the warranty.
So will unlocking it, get me 2.3 or should i return it.
This T Mobile Boxed version cost me £220 (unwanted contract upgrade, so its BNIB, for the sim free its £275.. quite a difference. Im not very good at modding either.
Any Advice
Thanks

If you don't want to flash manually with Odin you should return the locked Galaxy and look for an unlocked one or even for a Galaxy S2...
If you flash with Odin you can have Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3 or 2.3.4).

Check out market for free unlocking Apps. I have seen them and looks as though the unlock codes are stored in some system file that the app apparently reads. I cannot vouch that they work as my sgs was supplied from vodafone unlocked. But worth a try as they are free. What's the worse that could happen?

Yes defo, thats what I had to do.
Hi guys,
I need some clarification re: carrier unlocking and how it works. I recently purchased a carrier unlocked G920T, and I was going to start messing with custom roms/kernels and other goodies. My question is: Will the phone revert back to being locked if I do a factory reset or if I unlock the bootloader and flash custom roms?
I'm not a T-Mobile user, so I can't get another unlock code from them.
Thanks!!
The G920T has a carrier unlocked version, which is probably the one you have, not the T-Mobile one. Even if it is, usually a carrier unlocked device will remain unlocked forever unless it was unlocked using a different or hacky method, then there is a possibility that it will relock
Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Yeahh go ahead, mess with it. when it is carrier unlocked, the software doesn't affect it, unless it is a hacky method like @serio22 said, but there isnt such hacky method for the GS6 so have fun.
If it is a G920T (the T means it's from T-Mobile), then carrier unlocking is not a guaranteed state. I paid T-Mobile the full price to get my GS6 and they "permanently" unlocked it. Then after a OTA software patch all of a sudden it locked itself again and I couldn't use my phone for 2 days while they tried to unlock it. T-Mobile's new device unlocking uses a new system which has the phone "phone home" to their servers to check if you're allowed to use it outside of their network. It happened again when I accepted the Android 5.1.1 OTA. So...beware of T-Mobile's not-very-permanent permanent carrier unlocking.
I am living in india..
My relatives brought me the t model ( i wanted f model instead of i sold in india for quicker updates but got t model...lol )
Anyways,
The moment i inserted my sim, it worked like a charm so its unlocked at the moment.
I dont know how they made payment their or how it was unlocked, but the way used must be legit coz its still stock at the moment without root / recovery etc. .
I read humo saying it can get locked again...
My main question, what are the odds of that happening?
Also since i live in india, i wont be able to contact t mobile via phone/walk in, are there ways i can get it unlocked again?
I dont have the bill too if it matters
i believe they have an app that unlock ur device since that is how i unlocked mine. if not u can try to contact customer service online since u r not in US.
With device unlock app , will i have to pay for unlock my s6 g920t or it'll unlock my device for free.
I have an unlocked s6 tmobile from usa, i heard the flashing stock rom will relock the device.
If the phone will relock then how can i unlock it again?
I'm not sure about flashing a stock ROM relocking the device. Mine re-locked when T-Mobile sent Android security patches. This week I did the Android 6.0 OTA update and it has remained unlocked.
Hey guys! i have a factory unlocked version of s6 tmobile, my question is if i can flash the tmobile MM firmware . My model says "country: cellular south" and the firmware country says us tmobile, so i dont know if i can flash without any problems, (Sorry for my english it sucks) thanks !

Got it done remotely!
I have a Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T) from T-Mobile. It was locked. But it has an "Unlock" app installed by default. I used it and phone was instantly unlocked! Fast, easy and free!
I used to live in the US for a year and bought a g920T. Since i had the requirements i Unlocked and came back to my country but because of a problem, I had to install a stock firmware and now the unlock is gone.
So i'm wondering, if someone with a unlocked phone made firmware backup, remove the IMEI, and send it online would it work? I mean, right now it works just fine, so i can backup my IMEI and ID and just restore it if needed.
Please help

HI, i had this version and i didn't find any data related to it like firmware , i noticed that everything run smoothly and mobile run the latest update (your system is up to date ) lollipop and model n920f was written on the back although of that when i tried to use Samsung info apk it showed that phone made in Korea and it was Verizon version n 920v so i figured out that phone was a Verizon version and was moved to china to be unlocked and back was replaced also so, am i right ? and if i am right , can i download Verizon marshmallow update without problems.
I thought the f was an international version which hadn't been released. Its usually the tag for european models, which of course wasn't released for the note 5.

I know that it seems to me an assembled version hardware mad in Korea for American company Verizon and was sent to china to be unlocked version so they changed the model to n920f instead of n920v and applied modified soft and kernel and they replaced the back also and wrote n920 f
What do you think bonerp ?
Any ideas guys

The 'F' variant for Samsung devices is usually for European countries, but Samsung never released Note5 officially in Europe.
There is no N920F, the international variant is the N920C, If the actual device is N920V then those firmware should work.
Download and install : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en_GB
And see what the bootloader and modems are, they should specify what the actual phone is.
Remember that you are responsible for what you do to your device so proceed with caution and always back-up your data.
Here are screenshots from Samsung info apk , what do you think ?

It's a sprint model, you should be able to flash N920P firmware; It seems like the phone is running a custom ROM which has the CSC of the N920V.
Again you are responsible for what you do to your device so make a back-up before you attempt anything.

how did you know it is a n920p not n920v ?

The bootloader and baseband belong to N920P.

http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/56804/N920PVPU2AOI6_N920PSPT2AOI6_SPR/
It's kind of confusing because your KNOX counter is not tripped but the firmware on your device seems to a mix between N920V and N920P with the Chinese and Sprint CSC

I'll be honest if there was a way to unlock sprint phones that way we'd already know about it, put in a T-Mobile sim and an att sim if they both work it's unlocked you can use any SIM cards if they work it's unlocked as long as you don't use sprint and Verizon for the rest. I'm very confident it's unlocked if it's not, it can be done easily

Yes, you should be seeing a "enter code" sim lock screen. T-mobile uses a unlock app. if your phone was unlocked before on t-mobile it can be unlocked after you flash back to t-mobile firmware.(and may need to run the unlock app).
I have gone back and fort on 2 of my SM-G920T phones between t-mobile and other firmware including the metro PCS SM-G920T1 one so it should work to go back.
Sounds like you need to re-download the stock t-mobile firmware and flash in odin.

99% sure will be locked again once you go back to t-mobile as they use an app to authenticate.

If it was unlocked before on t-mobile you should be good. most you would need to do is run the t-mobile unlock app. just make sure you have a twrp backup just in case you need to go back to the rom that is working.
I have a fully unlocked Samsung Note 9 (N960U model) that I was using with Ultramobile which uses T-Mobile. I popped in my Simcard and phone rebranded it's self as a T-Mobile phone which is typical. I switched carriers and now with Straight Talk and using a Verizon simcard. Phone is still showing up as T-Mobile when it reboots and even has the T-Mobile bloatware.
I went on Sammobile and flashed the Verizon firmware using Odin and that did nothing as the phone still is showing as T-Mobile. I tried flashing the Unlocked firmware (XAA) and same story, once phone reboots, still shows as being T-Mobile. I even brought it to BestBuy and had them flash the Verizon firmware to no avail....
Is it permanently locked to T-Mobile even though the phone it's self is unlocked? HELP!
When you had the T-Mobile SIM installed, did you check to see if the T-Mobile Device Unlock app was installed & if so, did you run it to check the unlock status?
I know phones don't re-lock themselves, just considering the possibilities.....
One other thing:
When using ODIN to change firmware/etc..... if you didn't before, try changing the firmware w/o the SIM Card installed.
Outside of the above, I'm out of suggestions.
I have a T-Mobile Note 9 & used to test unlocked betas of Android 9 w/o any issues.

Funny you say that, the T mobile Device unlock app did install it's self. It tells me the device is network locked (Obviously isn't since it was originally an AT&T phone) and when I click continue, the server is not responding and that would be expected since this isn't even a Tmobile branded phone! My issue is Some of the APN settings on Verizon are different than TMobile and I can't get VolLTE. Any ideas...?
Interesting, never tried Odin without Sim card...When I did flash the unlocked and Verizon firmware and phone rebooted, the phone recognized there was a different carrier sim and rebooted (It did this when I first unlocked it from AT&T and went to Tmobile) but instead of re-branding or switching to a Verizon phone, it just reboots and still stuck with T-Mobile firmware. I want to be clear also, phone works fine with the exception of MMS and VolLTE which I believe I would get back once I switch to a Verizon firmware
I know this doesn't solve the SIM Unlock issue, but, have you manually changed the APN for the SIM Card you're using?

I did, I changed it to Straight Talk Verizon APNs settings. I just don't know how T-Mobile can lock my phone....
Some of the MNVO's Sim cards don't have all the data as the man brand in my experience I would get a Verizon Sim I've had the same problem use it to do the carrier change then install your regular Sim
[/COLOR]I have a T-mobile sim card in my Unlocked Verizon note 9 and it says its locked as well but it isn't. Just change the sim card and it will work just fine. If there is tmobile software left on it you will may have to flash your firmware to get rid of it. If there is T mobile software left you will have to flash your firmware to get rid of it.
My Verizon branded Note 9 is SM N960U. How is yours unlocked?
