Hello, I own a OnePlus 2 and had it rooted about a year ago but it got stuck on a bootloop some months ago when I tried to flash a custom rom. I then flashed the original Oxygen OS 2.2.1 which resolved the bootloop issue but removed the root. I've since tried to re-root my phone multiple times but found no success. I noticed that when i run(in cmd) "fastboot oem device-info" there is something saying "device tampered: false". Is that the reason my phone won't root? Should it be "true"? If so is there a way to make it "true"?
Not really. I have an Mi device and i root it by replacing the stock recovery with twrp during flash. So, basically i root without unlocking the bootloader. And i can flash custom roms too.
P.s. the fastboot info shows device tampered as false
actually im too suffering the same problem before installing twrp
bootloader device tempered : false
bootloader device unlocked : true
I've fixed a couple of these oneplus devices over TeamViewer sessions, and, have come to the conclusion that only oneplus devices purchased from questionable sources actually trip the tamper flag. Devices purchased from Amazon or oneplus simply should not do this
I have a oneplus 2 and my tamper bit ain't tripped

I'd like to add that I've bricked my device many times to the point that I had to rely on the L2 files. These files relock the bootloader. So I've locked-unlocked my bootloader several times. I once had to lock the bootloader before sending my device in for repairs. My tamper flag never got tripped

Are these the new tamper flags? fastboot oem device-info doesn't work on the 6. My phone's stock so far.
johns-Air:android johnwhite$ fastboot oem read_sv
(bootloader) Note: 0xFFFFFFFF indicates SV fuse read failure
(bootloader) BOOTLOADER = 0x2
(bootloader) AP = 0x1
(bootloader) MODEM = 0x0
OKAY [ 0.005s]
There are tamper flags u can see how many times from fastboot. Mine came with 2 and software said modified.

i was never quite clear on this. i was rooted for a while, and i think it said "modified", but then i sideloaded back to stock from one of the stock images on google's android development site, and it no longer says "modified". i have not flashed any custom roms. in this case, will there be any tamper flags thrown on my phone as it sits right now, stock?
-peter
It says modified when its stock from the factory and the status code is 2. I just got my replacement so I checked. I relocked and flashed back to stock and it no longer says modified but I don't think that matters.

Also I've flashed my firmware to stock 15+ times because I've had a soft brick or twrp issue here and there and it said status code 3. Then when I flashed back to stock and locked it the status code went back to 2
Do these have any bearing on warranty status?

Not that I know of; I mailed it back to moto yesterday and they didn't seem to care when I told them. You could say you had to flash the stock ROM because it wouldn't update.
what does status code 2 mean guys?
I must have missed a step when I unlocked my XT1053 last year. I never did anything with it and assumed that because it gives the the caution screen when I turn it off and back on, that the bootloader is unlocked. However, now that I decided to get down and do stuff, it's telling me via third party apps that my phone isn't actually unlocked. There's no super user app or anything. Do I need to go through the unlocking process again? I'm on 4.4.4.
Me again. I'm following the directions for rooting it and have flashed TWRP 2.8.6.0 but when I select Recovery, there's a dead android and it says "No Command."
You have an unlocked boot loader but you don't have root privelages. Also try holding down volume down+power on no command
It takes some reading comprehension but the tutorials here really are excellent. I guess I have a philosophical question: why would you unlock the bootloader without the intention of rooting the phone? I had (obviously) confused the terms.

Can you boot the phone into Fastboot/Bootloader mode? What does it say for the status?
If its LOCKED Status 0, then your bootloader is locked. If its LOCKED Status 2 (or 1), then you are "Relocked" (i.e. the bootloader was unlocked, then someone used the Fastboot OEM LOCK process to relock the bootloader). The phone will always show the UNLOCKED Warning message screen if your status is no longer 0. (As users, we can toggle between Unlocked and Relocked, but can't get it back to Locked Status 0).
Since the XT1053 can unlock its bootloader via the code from Moto's web site, you can always just follow the bootloader unlock process again, using the same unique code for your phone.
After your phone's bootloader is showing UNLOCKED Status 3, you may root by following -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/instructions-unlocking-rooting-dev-ed-t2649738 (Step 8 IS necessary) Please be sure to use the latest TWRP fastboot IMG file and Installable ZIP of SuperSU

Since doing the bootloader unlock process is "desctructive" (i.e. wipes use data/apps from the phone), some will unlock the bootloader when they first get the phone, run with it, and maybe root later... that way when they do decide to root, they wont need to also wipe the phone and have to set it back up from scratch.
But that is the only reason I can think of why one would unlock the bootloader, and not root. At the same respect, if you don't have a phone which is branded Developer Edition, you've already voided the phones warranty by requesting the code from Moto, so, why not root immediately?
Hi,
Some time ago I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device. Didn't know it was possible to root without unlocking the bootloader (yes, i'm quite new to rooting etc.). Now my phone has a defective headphone-jack and I need to send it on repair. Anyone know how to re-lock the bootloader so I still have the warranty?
Currently running sLIM 4.8 by Wajk.
Use flashtool
Thanks, but it says on Sony's website that the phone stays unlocked even after using flash tool?
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Never done it in Sony phone but most of HTC, Nexus and few other brands I'm locking just with this command.
Hi,
I've searched and found how to do it but it was for Android 5.1 but I'm on 7.0 and I my recovery is TWRP 3.0.2-0 and apparently there are more steps to do if you are on TWRP, I'm wondering what are they.
Thanks

First, questions need to go in the Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting Thread, not the General thread. Second, the steps to lock the bootloader have not changed. It's done from the bootloader with fastboot and the command "fastboot oem lock". It shouldn't matter what recovery you have.
Re-locking needs stock recovery(maybe full stock; boot, recovery, system) if you try to re-lock your boot loader without stock recovery you might hardbrick your phone. So just backup your apps and files, flash a stock image from google and re-lock your boot loader with "fastboot oem lock". Which probably needs wiping your phone.
Before you do anything search these forums for the many people who locked their bootloader and then when they had problems ended up with a bricked and useless device. Unless you have a very special reason for locking, leave it unlocked

this right here...there is really no reason to ever re lock your bootloader
I flashed the factory image and and it went fine. But the bootloader is still unlocked. My main concern for locking the bootloader is to prevent any malicious app to root the phone and hide themselves by like installing as system app or something. And I'm not planning to flash any custom ROM. So:
1- Since I'm on stock ROM, is there still a possibility of hard bricking my phone if I relock?
2- If I leave it unlocked, will malwares be able to tamper with the phone by the means I mentioned or similar approaches?
Thanks
2. No, they don't. Bootloader is on a completly different layer.

I feel your concerns. I think the safest bet is to watch where you download apps and content from. And make sure "unknown sources" is turned off. That should minimize your potential for problems. I think the main thing is watching where you get apps from.
I got my H9L 2 months back and had rooted it (and unlockedd bootloader). Im having a big battery issue battery drains too fast. I want to get it to service centre as waranty is not over.
I've read posts saying if I relock bootloader I'll get waranty back but some says I won't get back warranty even if I relock bootloader.
Can someone sort this out please
IF you've unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device you have no warranty in the eyes of the manufacturer, it states this in the terms and conditions when you get your bootloader code from them.
See when you unlock the bootloader you get a warning screen upon booting the device and relocking the bootloader will not get rid of that warning.
However have you tried to see if the battery issue is intact an software issue. I.e have you wiped caches, checked if an app such as Google assistant WhatsApp Facebook is running in the background. Do you have the same issue when booting android into safe mode????

That's strange. I've relocked it today after flashing compete stock using HuRupdater tool.
I'm not having the warning screen I had earlier when my bootloader was unlocked.
So does that mean I'll be able to claim my waranty now?
And I've tried different ROMs the issue persists.
If they ask if I've unlocked the bootloader(since I've given my product number they might know) I'll just tell that I took the unlock code just in case, as they were shutting it down and that I haven't used it. Well at least that's the plan
So will they know that I've unlocked it earlier if there is no warning screen? As I've told I have complete stock firmware including kernal and recovery like @Fredin_ told.
Please reply fast.
If your no longer showing that Warning message after going back to stock then you can try and claim warranty if you wish, however they might have other ways to finding out if the bootloader has been unlocked.
So put your claim in and see what they do, they will either honor the Warranty or not Honor the Warranty and give you a quote for the work.
Personally if i unlock my bootloader and root it i'd just put up with the issue as i fully knew that the warranty went when i unlocked the device.
But i will leave it upto you how you go about it.
