help need passeord to open phone - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on 6.1 and I went to reset my phone it is locked I havent done any modding to it. it went into recovery and said erasing for about 10 minutes so I went to restart the phone and now it says i need a password to start it. But I never had a password. Any way to get this thing back up and running. It is oem locked

After a reset you need to enter the password for the Google account you used on the phone prior to the reset. This is to verify that it's your phone...

At some point a password was set. The only way you would be prompted to enter a password is if you had set one at some point in the past by setting up a Google account.
You need to know that password, as it's the only way to get back into the device. If you don't know it for whatever reason, you're screwed.

[Q] phone locked need help

my phone is locked and im not sure what i can do. i forgot my pattern and when i tried to put in my password it says it was wrong. i got to change my password on google but it still wont let me in with the new password. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
If you had enabled usb debugging, then you can remove the pattern lock using ADB. If you hadn't enabled usb debugging then the only option is the forgot my password, which will email the pattern to you.
Like you said it is not working for you, the extreme method would be to perform a factory reset. You will lose all the data in the phone (not sd card). Use factory reset as last resort only..
thats the problem i can no longer get to any pattern lock. it wont let me. and its not accepting my gmail and password for some reason. im not sure if i can do anything.
unlock bootloader and flash sense rom over without wipe

Password Encryption Lock Out

Few month ago found out there was a stock option for encrypting the data. After the process everything worked great. However, I decided to try out a different rom and rebooted to the phone into recovery mode. Come to find out it's also locked out by the encryption. First reaction was awesome, android got this on a lock down on all sides. Here comes the bad news. My normal encryption password does not work with the recovery encryption password. It keeps telling me I got the wrong password. It's seems I can't make any changes anymore.
I was wondering, what do you do in this case? I can use the phone as is for now but what if I want to update or sell my phone, what do I do? I can't even full wipe the phone for fresh new rom.

Can't get into Nexus 6 that has encryption

So I am a developer, making a lockscreen app. Part of the app allows it to set a system lock for double protection. Upon doing this, it set PIN needed for phone to start up. The pin I had set wouldn't work so I entered it in too many times and it wiped my device. The weird thing is, the default password "0" worked in TWRP but NOT to boot Android. Now, after it wiped my device, it boots up to the Android screen, and tells me to enter my PIN again.. It still doesn't work, but tells me in -1 attempts my device will be wiped. How can I just get this all to go away and start again? I have root and TWRP installed. Is there anything I can do?
I can't even boot into Android because it asks for the PIN, even though it already wiped it. I can't use my phone at all.
Flash factory images?

Will this mess up TWRP?

does it matter? it takes 10-15 seconds to flash twrp, or reflash. but anyways i have a feeling that itll ask again, i hope not.
Yea. I would fastboot erase and reflash everything. If bootloader is locked you are hosed.

Contact the previous owner for his unlocking gesture or code/pin and Gmail account, then factory reset and login with his account and when done delete this accoubt in /settings/accounts/. Then data factory reset again and it should be fixed imo. Or send your phone to the prev. owner so he can do it himself. Look here too http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-properly-prepare-nexus-6-resale-t3104504.
I've had this phone since it came out haha. I haven't stolen it or anything. The problem came because I was solely testing on Samsung devices. Here, I set a backup PASSWORD in case you couldn't unlock your phone. My app was a device admin so it had the ability to set phone lock and lock the phone. What happened was when I tested it on my Nexus, between making the password and setting the password there is the option of "require at boot", which mysteriously, my app automatically selected. Now the issue comes in when I rebooted my phone and Google did NOT let me put a PASSWORD it, but required a PIN. This was an impossible scenario because the android lock screen was set with a PASSWORD, not a PIN.
The even weirder thing was that my app automatically sets the backup android pin to "0" if no backup password is set. When I tried 0 at boot it wouldn't work. BUT when I tried it in TWRP 0 was the only thing that decrypted the phone. I am still not sure why this whole thing happened (Google not letting me put a PASSWORD instead of a PIN if the device is encrypted. My app automatically selecting require PIN at boot, and the backup "0" working in TWRP when it wouldn't work to boot Android).
So @gee2012 I know it may seem like another thread where someone stole a Nexus and wanted to break in to use it. But I assure you I am the only one to ever own this phone. This was just a weird scenario that hopefully won't happen again.
But for the sake of the question:
Flashing factory images worked! Thanks @HolyAngel

[Solved] Lost pin code, no recovery, how do I reset mi 5?

Hello,
I've bought a Mi 5 to my son and he changed the lock screen pin code and subsequently fogot it. Now, without being able to get passed screen lock login, without a recovery, how do I factory reset the phone?
I'm unsuccessful in unlocking the bootloader, the device (Mi 5) is not attached to the account. This attachment is done in the settings which I cannot access because I do not know the pin code.
I've found this article, but no response has been given yet : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/help/mi-5-dead-factory-reset-t3379029
How on earth do I reset the phone? Does anyone know how to do this?
Please please please help me out...

PS This is a cross post with this article, Ill update this post with whatever finding I get. http://en.miui.com/thread-1016219-1-1.html
Answering my own question:
Warning, this will erase everything on your phone, it's a factory reset.
Connect to your google account, use Find my phone, choose the device and continue logging in. Choose Consider erasing your device, then click Yes.
This will erase everything on the phone and will enable you to access the phone again after reinstalling.

Question Help on Factory reset.

I wanted help resetting the device. My brother forgot his lock screen password and to reset to factory settings he needs the password. I tried to recover by google find my device but as the device was turned off, it does not connect to the internet. is there any way to reset it? i tried support but they said i could send the device to their tech support in china, but it would be too expensive.
The easy way; get your "brother" to remember the password.
Or bypass the FRP lock... Google it.

if the problem was the google account I could, but I can't even reset the device because it asks for the password. when I click on the "forgot password" icon it tells me that if I forget the password it cannot be recovered and in order to use the device again I would have to take it to their technical assistance to restore the factory settings. i could reset it by google find my device but when i log into google account it can't connect to the device because it was off. and to start it it asks for the password.
You already have lost the data on the phone as the password is tied to the encryption.
