Hey all, I recently updated my firmware on my xperia, and I absolutely hate it. I would like to install some custom firmware, however I have not been able to find how to root it anywhere. I usually have Iphones so this is all new to me. Any tips or links you could give would be greatly appreciated

If you want to install a custom rom you need to unlock your bootloader, this will void your warranty.
1. Downgrade to 4.2.2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/stock-rom-xperia-z-c6603-10-3-1-2-67-t2512422
2. root your phone via easy rooting method :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472
3. Backup your TA-Partition:
4: unlock your bootloader
5: search for a custom rom you like and follow the instructions in the specific thread

For Installing Custom ROMs U don't need to unlock ur Bootloader..
Only CM and CM based roms need Unlocked Bootloader
Hi
Sorry if this is an obvious question.
I am about to root and before rooting, I have a choice of these 2.
1. Install Huawei P9 Stock Recovery for Marshmallow
2. Install Huawei P9 TWRP for Marshmallow
All the rooting manuals say TWRP, but I do not want a custom ROM
I want root just to - move apps between system <-> user; - to remove bloatware; - have access to some system permissions
I would be ok with Huawei stock recovery, right?
I am not really sure what the difference is. Is "Stock Recovery" by Huawei? I would prefer Huawei supported things if there is no downside
Any information would be great. Thank you.
With the Huawei stock recovery, you cannot install custom zip files. You definitely need TWRP to root.
Ohh ... ok.
Thank you very much for the response.
Sorry for one more question that is probably obvious -
After rooting would it re-instate the warranty if I put back stock recovery and maybe locked it again?
This is assuming that I can still keep root privileges if I do that - if not there is no point.
Thank you for any information.

If you read the notice when unlocking the bootloader, I think that's when you know that the warranty is void. To lock it, simply flash back Huawei stock recovery and also flash the stock Huawei ROM full package .app file or use eRecovery.
Thanks again for the information.
If I flashed TWRP, then rooted, and then flash custom recovery back, would it still be rooted?
Edit: For anyone else - yep still rooted after doing that.
Hey guys,
Today I messed up with TWRP and accidentally deleted the data partition.
I had used janjan's solution like a year ago to get magisk (I'm assuming my DRM keys are gone), and my BL is also unlocked.
Sadly, my phone booted to the new setup wizard, and now magisk is not working.
I'm desperately trying to get back to stock ROM in order to get root again and have a custom kernel or some other custom ROM instead.
I'm not sure if that is possible any longer, I tried using newflasher (v19) to flash into stock but sadly it didn't recognize the phone.
I'm kinda lost, and I would love if someone would help and point me in some direction in order to get things working again.
Current situation is I'm on firmware 47.1.A.12.179, and cannot simply update it through fota (it won't install), magisk isn't working, but the phone does connect to google play store and functions 'normally' (without root though).
If anyone has any idea of what I could do next, that would be supreme.
Thanks for your time!
Use EMMA.
Thanks! I'll update with details
Edit: Amazing mate! This worked! My camera is back!
So many many many thanks
Just came here to say thanks. Spend few hours trying to install drivers when I actually mistook flash mode with fastboot mode lol

Hi guys! just a couple of questions. I have been reading some of the Q and A on mi 11 ultra in the forums and have some questions of my own for clearer info for me.
I will be unlocking my bootloader today so here's my questions.
1. If I'm flashing a eurom (flashable rom from xiaomi website), do i need to follow the guides in flashing a twrp? or just the usual mi flash tool and eurom for flashing?
2. If I'm flashing a global rom, (i watched in a video that for flashing global rom) do i still need to edit the .bat file and delete the 8 lines pertaining to rollback?
3. currently i have a 12.0.9 chinarom, i haven't updated it yet to 12.5.3 (there is an update available), because i will be unlocking my bootloader. Do i need to update it first before unlocking? or just proceed to unlocked?, then change the rom to my preferred one either eurom or global?
thank you.

1. so i do need to follow the steps in flashing euro with twrp?
3. i've read that chinarom should be updated to latest, before any flashing do i need to do that also? or just from 12.0.9, directly flash a 12.5.3 eurom in twrp?
i have flashed an updated eurom thur twrp. do i have to format after installation of rom?
Not on updating, just on branch change

Thanks for the reply. You leave the bootloader unlocked, or relocked it in EU version? Are you able to use bank and payment apps without security issues?
And, what is the main differences of the Chinese and EU system?
Thanks
The bootloader remains unlocked, you cannot lock it via dev options. However the ROM works as if it is locked by its design. All bank apps work, may be you might need to delete the empty twrp folder but most don't require it.
It is based on Chinese stock but with so much added. So you get updates quicker on a much better ROM. I'm not going to list the vast number of differences but if you want to read them all, pop over to the Xiaomi EU forum's 11 Ultra's download page for all the info.
EU ROM ram management sucks, nothing I open and I leave without killing it in the background , then I return to it from recent, nothing work, always fresh open. Tried battery management, tried ram management, tried many things, same result

No, you only need to format your storage when you are going from one line to another, such as China to EEA or Xiaomi.eu, but all you need to do for an update is a dirty flash via TWRP or if you are running stock rom, all updates should be relatively seamless, requiring only a simple click to initiate the process and is handled within the OS.

You can do it either way. Personally, I find it quicker on my PC to download the rom and then to copy it to my internal storage, but you can download via OTA if you want as well.

so i downloaded it ony my mi11u, faster download time.
when i click the "check md5 & install" on "updater"
*best to remove the lock's first, else a chinese welcome note on twrp will prompt to input the password, need to change the language first.
it restarts and bootups on twrp. click install and need to search the downloaded "usually in internal storage, with other files and folders, on the bottom since it's a zip file"
install and reboot "system reboot"
done.
I have updated to the latest MIUI Global 13,0,2,0 and I NEED ROOT ACCESS, how do i go about it now?

i downloaded the miui_STARGlobal_V13.0.2.0.SKAMIXM_eecc15ab63_12.0 but there is no boot.img inside??? (that is the rom version i currently have installed)

1. Yes and it takes 168 hours to complete and ends with a format. Use official mi unlock tool.
2. There is only one custom ROM. It is the Xiaomi EU ROM and available on that forum or via mifirm.net
3. Safetynet will not pass while on a rooted ROM. Unless you use magisk. My question is why do you need root? The Xiaomi EU ROM passes safteynet and all you banks, gpay etc work fine without root. There is no working twrp on A12, all A12 updates on Xiaomi EU ROM are fastboot.
4. Plenty of guides in this or the Xiaomi EU forum for 11 Ultra but obviously there is always risk in flashing but even when bricked, these can be brought back to life with the help of anyone with an edl account.

Awesome, thank you kindly for that great reply,
2) is that custom Rom any better than stock or has some sort of advantage over stock? Extra features, programs, tweeks...?
This custom rom come pre-rooted?
3) i don't need root for anything in particular, I've always had root on every single Android I've ever owned, once in a blue moon it comes in handy, i do plan on using magisk,
- from memory mine came with Android 11 Global, will twrp work on that?
5) That 1 custom rom, does it receive updates or voids warranty? And it is possible to revert back to stock but not downgrade Android versions...?

2. We call it "custom" but it just stock miui China rom of 11U with some mod for working in global area
As u know if u unlock phone, some app will not work normally (like banking, Google pay, Netflix...) they already fix almost all of the problem like that. And every default app can be uninstall easily (but xiaomi already have the way to uninstall thêm too).
And it isn't pre-rooted
3. If u dont want to do anything with root, i recommend u to stay away from it.
A11 is working fine with twrp, u can find official twrp in forums
MIUI 13 (A12) isn't.

You mentioned if I unlock my phone some apps won't work... You mean if I root my phone right? There's magisk hide that Helps to bypass these restrictions...
If there's no custom ROMs or special mods then I don't see the point in installing twrp? Unless there's advantages of twrp on Xiaomi phones?
Can I root the current stock firmware that's installed now on my device ?

with me, i just need twrp when i want to use xiaomi.eu rom, they usually realease recovery zip file for update rom. But now still no working twrp with A12, so they realease fastboot rom, and i dont want to use xiaomi.eu rom anymore so i dont care about twrp
yes. u can always comeback to stock with flash fastboot rom (or recovery rom with working twrp)
i prefer fastboot rom because i just think it's cleaner than recovery (LOL)
And with fastboot method, u can relock bootloader if u want, just need to carefully pick the right rom of your phone original. (eg: global unit can only relock using global rom, eea with eea rom, CN with CN rom)

You're misinformed.
They offer the official rom, all they do is to pack it in a fastboot installer.
Again, official rom, repacked. I'd advise a fact check because you are active in answering people, but your knowledge is obviously partial.
