Hello, My volume down button is broken and i can only access the bootloader via ADB using (adb reboot bootloader).
But when i flash a custom recovery and reboot normal then (adb reboot recovery), it stills the original recovery. I've read a topic in reddit, that if you restart normally after installing recovery, it is not "installed".
You guys know any command on fastboot to boot into recovery after installation? i've tried to use (fastboot help) to search possible commands and i've find nothing.

You can flash recovery via an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools
It worked for me just reboot recovery from app.

hey guys i finally finished unlocking the bootloader on my 2.2.1 FRG83D build N1 but i couldnt get recovery.img to push to the N1 through adb.second option was to run "install-superboot-windows" for FRG83D build on bootloader screen from PC,soon as i did that N1 booted to the phone and i checked in the app menus and i have the latest "SUPERUSER" app.i really want to flash custom ROMS now.DO I HAVE RECOVERY or how do i get recovery now cuz i really wanna get started with flashing custom roms.any suggestions would help.thanx
1. Get a teminal emulator from the market and reboot recovery. or
2. Get quick Boot from the market and install/use that to boot into recovery or
3. Power down the phone and push the trackball+power to boot into recovery
If none of those 3 options work for you, your recovery did not flash and you will need to either reflash it. (making sure fastboot sees your phone with fastboot devices)
Or you could download ROM manager from the market. Using that, you can install clockwork recovery from the app itself.

I tried both. First I did with adb. It worked fine till I installed lollipop of India.
Didn't work after that, then I used the all in one kit as well, still no luck. I used their rotund option, it opened philz somehow. Please help
How did you install lollipop by restoring or flashable zip and which device are you using and my device is canvas a1 at first i installed lollipop using philz backup and then it got to stock recovery and i lost root and this is what i did then I installed official drivers and use minimal adb and fastboot tool and downloaded the official twrp and placed the img file in c/minimal adb directory and rename the file to twrp.img and NOT twrp.img.img and connected device in fastboot mode and typed (fastboot devices) a serial number displayed and typed fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and voila I got the twrp up and running from then I've been using twrp and also download the material theme IF you got any errors post here

Warning don't try this if you are new to rooting.. wait for more confirmation
I've successfully rooted my phone using these steps:
Download the TWRP recovery image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/recovery-t3311601 credit @jemmini
Download SuperSU from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-beta
Enable Developer Options
Enable OEM unlock
Enable USB Debugging
Reboot phone bootloader (adb reboot bootloader or vol up + power)
fastboot oem unlock
vol up to confirm unlock
your phone will ask you to reboot but vol up and vol down doesn't do anything. (other were having issue with boot looping here because of this..)
fastboot reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery.img (the file downloaded in step 1)
fastboot reboot
while the phone is rebooting, press and hold vol up (this will launch TWRP recovery)
Optional: do not enable write access (for backup purpose)
select wipe, format data, type in yes (this fixes the boot looping issue -- credit @acotto)
now make a backup of your phone
Copy supersu.zip to your phone
install supersu.zip
To make TWRP recovery permanent: rename or delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p
reboot
your phone will take awhile to boot up since it has to rebuild all of your applications for the first time.
Edit:
I haven't figured out how to make TWRP permanent yet. Blu is restoring the stock recovery on reboot.
Thanks for the write up, looks really promising.
For those who need fastboot, I used this All in One to get it set up on my PC. I am running Windows 10 and it installed and worked just fine.
Followed the instructions above and achieved root. Thanks to OP for the great instructions.

Don't unlock bootloader, it's not needed.
For now, use recovery restore to original ROM, clear data/cache in recovery, then you should be able to boot.

I have already given a big warning about this unlock bootloader, why didn't you read ?
Click the link, the solution is there. Generally, install TWRP, then restore from the image given.

Help me find out method to root this phone.
Had tried kingroot, kingoroot and other root tools.

Why won't this work?! I can't even load TWRR once. It always boots and then re-boots to the original recovery. Pushing volume up after flashing the twrr recovery doesn't go into recovery mode.
---------- Post added at 01:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:25 AM ----------
Is it okay to change or delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p before loading the recovery.img of TWRR??
What version of android is this working on? I'm on the latest
How do I get out of this bootloop?

You have flashed a recovery image to your boot partition, so it always boots to recovery. You need to flash a boot image to the boot partition.
But why do you want recovery if you won't flash anything to your phone?
By flashing recovery, you are doing exactly that anyway.
You have an unlocked bootloader, so you may as well flash an advanced stock kernel. It is stock kernel with twrp built into the boot.img. Check android development section.
thank you
since i know that i can't boot recovery without flashing, i have no other option as to flash.
can't i flash it to FOTA partition?
i have 10.7.A.0.222 firmware and need root access but like to do it manually
You can't boot directly to FOTA on XZ. Need modified boot.img or flash twrp to boot (like you did before). Then while in TWRP, flash Supersu.zip to get root. Afterwards flash kernel only in flashtool to get stock boot back

I accidentally installed 2 different recoveries (Both are Twrp but different version) on my leeco le 2. And now I m unable to open recovery option. It just jumps on rebooting process without opening recovery.
