Hi Guys, I've been hunting and hunting for weeks since I got my new HTC Desire 628, But ohh my I cannot find anything to support my needs to root my desire. I have rooted my HTC M8 Perfectly and then my samsung galaxy 6 & my Asus Transformer.
Can anyone help me with being able to do this.
I've been able to unlock the bootloader, i've tried to use twrp from here for My Desire 628 but all I get is the blue HTC disclaimer saying this is for developers only but it won't continue further.
I Will Presume this phone is only new but I did think that the models are so close there may be a chance recovery from a 626 would work.
Please Can Anyone help. I will say this now that XDA is the best with a community that will never end. Good Work Everyone & Thanks in advance for the help to my delima.

Thanks for that I had looked at the dual sim, and I did try kingroot only last week it did not work but I'll double check what version of kingroot I downloaded.
By chance can you advise me of the script you used. Or direct me to it? I did see on here about the dual sim but i don't recall seeing a script.
Script is needed only if you want to switch kingroot to supersu once device is rooted. Here is the guide for that:

I tried rooting my desire 628 with kingroot. It doesn't work. Is there any other alternative??
Make sure you go to the XDA kingroot page and Download the latest release. Don't use the version on Google Play because you may end up with kingoroot or kingroot pro which are not the real kingroot. Also make sure you have Allow unknown apps checked in security settings on your phone and USB debugging and switch off oem checked in developer options. I gained root that way a month or so ago but still haven't gotten to switch to a proper root with supersu or a custom recovery. Hope that helps you. I'm waiting for someone with more know how to get involved and get a way for that to happen but while Twrp and cwm don't support the Desire 628 it may be some time.

Ps-bootloader is unlocked but shows s-on
Also, you can try an app called SuperSUME. Run it and it will install SuperSu in the place of Kingroot and remove all the Kingroot files. You can also uninstall the Kingroot app once the SuperSUME app is done but it doesn't automatically remove the Kingroot files. I hope this helps you in replacing Kingroot with SuperSu

Okay, I am in the process of creating an unofficial version of TWRP recovery for the HTC Desire 628 as of right now. It should be done in a few weeks but I will try my best to get it done as soon as possible. Then through the TWRP recovery you should be able to install SuperSU. I will create a guide later to help you if you need help installing it. The problem that I am facing with the custom recovery image right now is whenever you flash a zip it will fail, crash and reboot the device. I just figured out that it is because the system partition is still in read-only mode and it is unable to flash it. It gets even stranger because I tried to flash the SuperSU zip and it is the only zip that goes through successfully. It rebooted a few times but then started up and that device successfully has SuperSU root installed now. So there you go, the recovery should be out in just a couple of weeks. I am trying to figure this out as fast as possible. Also keep in mind that I am also working on Lineage OS for this device (But is failing miserably). Bare with me .

False. I have been using SuperSU to gain root access for apps that require it. It just fails to update the SU binary (which isn't essential, since it is only a newer version of it).

This doesn't get any further, since it requires a custom recovery to install the new binaries. Stick with SuperSU... after a couple reboots it should successfully be granting root access to applications, but will just continue to peskier about updating the binary (which is NOT necessary at the moment).

Updates after root
Hi.
I have been using this root method for a while on Australian 510 and its working superbly, many thanks! Of late though, I am frequently being bugged by a recurring notification that there is an update for the phone available, to version 1.50.841.2. I have tried installing the update several times but it always fails. Does anyone know a work around? As an aside, after unlocking the bootloader I got a message that there was an updated HTC Service Pack available but my phone was detected as being modified so the install was not available and I wouldn't get any further notification of updates. What are these service packs? Do they effect system functionality or are they only updates to HTC apps? Is it possible to still install these somehow?
Cheers.

Hey just wondering is there a way to gain root on our M8 after lollipop update. I tried the old method and I couldn't flash Roms and super user didn't work so I had to RUU back to stick. Is there a way to root on android L.

Let us know if you still have issues, but as other's have stated, simply perform the following steps:
1) Visit HTC-Dev to unlock the bootloader
2) Flash the latest version of TWRP
3) Flash a pre-rooted ROM
Let me know if you need any further assistance with any of the above steps.
update SU Binary
I have used hasoon's all in one tool kit. When I try to run SuperSU. I am getting a message that there are no superSU binaries installed and I need to manually re-root if I've recently upgraded to lollipop 5.0. I have spent some time browsing forum's and sites but, I'm not really clear on a few things and would appreciate any help. Do i need to try a different SuperSU.zip download and flash that? Do i have to achieve S-off to have root? and what is the best method for S-Off. I have tried SunShine but, I am getting a similar error to there being no SU binary. does the fact that i am rooting the H&K edition and not just a regular M8? I'm trying to make sure I gather enough info. before proceeding any further so I don't bork the device.
Thanks

This will likely never happen. You need an unlocked bootloader for a custom recovery like TWRP. As far as I know, the last VZW Samsung devices with unlocked bootloaders were the GS3 and Note 2.
With that being said, utilities like safestrap allows users to run custom roms/etc on locked bootloaders provided there's root access. I'm sure something like this is already in the works.

Yes, this can also root from COMPLETE stock without the need of a computer of any kind. May want to add that to thread title if possible to let others know it can be used to root LMY48B(At Least) without the need of a computer to unlock bootloader first and without the need of a custom recovery first. Just install Kingroot then use KingUser(I Believe That Is The Super User App It Installs, Do NOT Install Another SuperUser App Yet Until After Custom Recovery Installed) and use KingUser to allow custom recovery App permissions to install recovery then use that recovery to install SuperUser binaries properly.

He just said why on the first post...lol
So you dont need a pc
Its just an easier method if you ask me and for unlocking bootloader you just need to download the nexus 5 unlock bootloader app from google play to unlock bootloader then just install twrp manager from google play and theres your root bootloader unlock and custom recovery but thats upto the user as other people do it there way
It's remarkable what I'm willing to download and install from XDA sometimes.
Anyway, it certainly rooted my device without needing to hook it up to a PC. Threw two "this is bypassing android security" messages. Hope it didn't do anything else :/

All you do is use KingUser to grant permission to TWRP Manager to install TWRP and then use SuperSU to install SU through recovery THEN you can easily use SuperSU to grant permissions to any app that'll allow you to remove KingUser. That way you always have an app that can grant SU at all times without going ANY time at all without a SuoerUser app

Tried that but SuperSU kept failing to install. Ended up just wiping and going from scratch. The whole Kingroot sending data home to a server just didn't sit well with me. I know they've addressed that they do it to keep track of success rates and don't collect any personal data.

No, wiping data only happens when you unlock bootloader through the bootloader. . . not through the OS. I believe only of you use the Farnborough method instead of manually doing so inside of OS

Hi. I'm a newbie in root matter. My nexus 5 is already in LMY48b 5.1.1. Hong Kong stock ROM. So far there's only one reason I want to root it, it is to let some call recorder apps to record incoming voice clearly. So at this stage I don't need to flash any custom ROM. I dug for a certain time of course I can find many teaching how to root, but most of them look like it involves many procedures, many terms or apps, unlock bootloader, android SDK, twrp, custom recovery, etc... it makes me so scared even to give it a try. Until I saw this thread and I think the kingroot app probably the simplest one for my case! In fact I can get it done with a Chinese root way, it's also very simple but I also heard that most likely there's spyware inside so I leave it.
So what I want to make sure is my thought above is it correct? I try not to annoy you guys, any answer simply either yes or no is appreciated. Of course if you guys want to tell me more it is most welcome.

So what I want to make sure is my thought above is it correct? I try not to annoy you guys, any answer simply either yes or no is appreciated. Of course if you guys want to tell me more it is most welcome.

may be you can try the nexus toolkit, http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
beware that when unlock the bootloader all data will lost (factory reset), you can use something like helium to make a backup first (for back app data)

Hi dummyplug, thank you for your reply and your referring. But I actually don't need to flash ROM, that's why I thought that I don't need to unlock the bootloader either. Do I?

The reason to unlock the bootloader is because if it is locked you can't run custom recovery (not flash, just a temp boot up with custom recovery), which is need for the root process, in short, you need to unlock the boot loader before you can do anything.
something like kingroot can bypass the need of an unlocked bootloader, so you actually can use kingroot to root your nexus first, then use those bootloader unlocker from play store to unlock the bootloader, but I will stay away from those tools because I don't trust them.
the toolkit can help you to unlock the bootloader and root, and do something else.
p.s. that means you need an unlocked bootloader to root, meanwhile can keep all other things (recovery, firmware) as stock.

Tnx for the info... Anyway i will try it with my oppo a37fw... Bcoz last tym i try root my phone with kingroot pc, it won't work..
Yeah, it bricked my phone. Now just vibrates every 3 seconds with black screen.
Not blaming the developer at all but I just think the lack of actual A37FW roms is what is causing the issue. I am no expert but have tried every tutorial on XDA and YouTube to unbrick my phone to no avail. Good luck bud
