Good and bad news about this. The radio works, with headphones that have an FM antenna! Yay!
But
The reception is bad...
and I mean, BAD. Cuts in and out of local stations that I always get 100% signal from a car or any other radio.
Mine works great and I'm 50 miles north of Atlanta.

You also don't have an AT&T Touch Pro...
Hmmm, the phone obviously recognises the headset is plugged in, but do you defiinitely have the right one?
Mine only works properly with the HTC S300 headset (Diamond and Raphael standard ones). When I tried it with my old Kaiser/Hermes headset, I only got faint radio, and a lot of static...

Not sure if it's the identical set that came in the box, but I bought it from expansys and it's specifically noted to be for the HTC Touch Pro and include an FM radio antenna... I don't know beyond that.

Unfortunately, Black's AT&T Touch Pro didn't come with any radio software installed, or a headset, so he's starting from scratch...
I don't think anyone is selling the official Diamond/Pro headset yet, but I would assume that any HTC headset with an antenna should work, so I'm at a bit of a loss, as the software seems to be working and picking up some sort of signal.
Perhaps there actually is an antenna connection between the receiver and the headset that is inside the HTC Touch Pro, but was left out of the AT&T version?
This is likely wishful thinking, but I am thinking that the fact that the AT&T hardware contains the FM receiver is further evidence that the hardware is identical to the HTC standard issue units and, inferentially, that the Touch Pro's 3G radio will be identical as well.

Haha, identical?
1) Different model names
2) No front camera
3) Different keyboard
4) Push to talk button
It's just wishful thinking. We're all assuming/hoping the UMTS radios will all be there, but don't say the radio working is any hint of that. ;-)

Even if the hardware is identical and he is using the Radio software designed for Europe/Asia, then the software might be designed to pick up the even numbered bands (102.2, 99.8 etc). The radio stations in North America use odd numbered frequencies (102.1, 99.1 etc). Hence the terrible quality. Just a possibility.

Might be because it's a different headset, who knows. Maybe someday I'll throw another $30 towards the ones that came with the phone.

All of these are peripherals. Sorry if I was not precise enough in my post, but there has been much speculation on the boards by a lot of very credible folks that the internal radios and chipsets on these units are identical.
I was going to say something smart about your attitude but I won't.

Well I appreciate you not saying anything smart, that'd be a tragedy. As for the speculation of hardware, I'm fully aware of what's been questioned. All I'm saying is that the FM radio has as much to do with the UMTS radios as the PTT button and the keyboard, we're pretty sure the UMTS radios are the same but I don't think this should help that argument.

Hmmm, fm radio -- internal component, keyboard and PTT buttons -- peripheral and external. I am guessing logic is not your strong suit? Sorry for the tragedy.
By the way, if "we're pretty sure the UMTS radios are the same" (and who is "we"?) then why the smart-alek comment in the first place? Never mind; don't answer that. I think from the other threads on the forum it is pretty clear why.

Sorry, by "we" I was referring to everyone I've spoken with from the forum who's done research regarding the subject. I spoke with one person who told me he saw a Q&A session with HTC's CEO regarding the Diamond, and something was said to the effect of "the US radio and MicroSD slot had to be removed to make it as small as it is..."
That would be pretty valid information towards saying the US radio should be present in the European Touch Pro.... The fact that I can listen to music on it, to me, isn't. But honestly I don't want to start anything, I'm on thin ice with the mods now as it is. I apologize for any rash comments and let's just be friends.

Last time i checked the hardware for FM radio, and for cellular signal were not the same. If it were then why would you need the headphones in order to receive a signal, think about it. I do think it's far more likely that they cripple the abilities through software than by stripping out the hardware functions. If the test unit that Black has is able to start working with a simple cab addition then it is likely that scenario will continue with the official models.
I also will say that there is no need for the snarky attitude so many users seem to have here. It is not necessary to mock someone simply because they disagree with you. No matter how many time it gets said it seems that nobody listens...but here goes again "treat other members with respect" always!

Good cause then we'd have to find someone else with an AT&T touch pro to pester with questions.
"If it were then why would you need the headphones in order to receive a signal"
Just for information - On all phones that have a radio, the wired headphones are always needed for the aerial. This is becuase the antenna in the device is not capable of receiving FM transmissions due to the wavelength of the signal. FM at approx 100MHz has a much larger wavelength thant the GSM signal (900 - 2100Mhz) and hence requires the larger aerial.

Have you tried to tune into different stations? When you do scan for stations, does it let you scan the odd numbered ones? Can you manually enter the frequency for a specific radio station? Sorry, I dont have a Touch Pro or a Diamond myself so I cant do these tests.
This is probably a stupid question, but if the wired headphones are used as the antenna, does that mean that Bluetooth headphones can't be used to listen to the radio? There was a review on pocketnow that suggested that wireless headphones could be used (though I wonder if there's some specific HTC set they're referring to). I'm just curious.

That was my point actually, because the person i was replying to was insistent that the cell radio had something to do with the FM Radio, which they really don't. sorry if that was unclear.
Hi , does anyone know if its possible to attach an external antenna ( for the cell phone not the gps or wifi ) on an htc magic. Im guessing it would have to connect thru the mini usb port. Cant seem to find my answer, I only come accross passive repeaters. Thank you
Bump. I'm interested in actually modding the phone if needed.
doubt it, magic is one of the phones that have the lowest amount of mods in the market (the tmobile mytouch variation only has 1 legitamate carrier for housings for example). plus the antenna is a sticker-- open up your backdoor, two stickers by the camera. but I suggest to get a better signal dont put your hand on the top by the camera while texting or calling, and take off any cover you may have on the back like pouches and etc...
wow, no wonder the signal it pulls is so weak
idk what you guys are talking about, the signal is great for me. My gf has the slide and i always have one signal lvl better than her. (3g>edge)
The stickers by the camera are for Bluetooth and GPS. How do I know? Cause the part number is printed on them. 'Amphenol-BT-090601' and 'Amphenol-GPS-090601'

So where is the phones antenna located at?
Maybe it is a coxial cable located inside the phone.
I was wondering whats the use of the antenna? Is it used for GPS and GSM signals as well or just the TV signals? if I pull it out forcefully to fit in a stylus?

Awwwww lol i too had the same question though i don't own a su660 just curiousity killing me to know
The antenna in the SU660 is for DMB (TV) viewing. This is quite a popular feature in Korea, and is almost a necessity for that market.
But it doesn't work anywhere else, as far as I know.
Only post questions in the Q&A section, thread moved.
Thanks

There are a lot of blutooth gamepads on Amazone but they're all from brands I've never heard of and look really cheap/stupid.
The only one I've seen that actually looks decent is this one:
http://8bitdo.com/nes30pro/
but this one doesn't have a phone holder, I mean how am I supposed to use this ? sit the phone flat on the table?
There's another thread for this. I am using the xiaomi bluetooth controller and you can get it for about £18. It has a rumble pack and all the buttons and the joysticks work quite well. BUt it doesn't have a phone holder.
However, you can buy something like this http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...for-Terios-T3-T3-PS3/1761705_32436099487.html

Hi
I wonder if some features of the Note 10+ could be ported to the Note 9
I believe that the features that dont depend on different or addicional hardware could be ported
E.G.
- Double tap to wake on system options (that wont mess up AoD)
- S Pen features such as Handwriting recognition or others (not the gestures part cause they depend on some addiocional hardware on the Note 9 S Pen, and also... they´re just weird *...)
- SuperSteady Video and Night Mode on front camera would be nice but i´m suspecting that those features might require different or addicional hardware
- Samsung DeX on Windows would also be nice to have...
These are a few of the features i would enjoy on my Note 9
What you guys think?
Do you believe that is better to make the upgrade?
Or you agree that some of the new features of the Note 10+ should be updated to the Note 9 from Samsung itself?
What features would you like to use on your Note 9?
RSGI
* - If you dont mind looking like Harry Potter while taking a picture outside... go ahead and upgrade
Have upgraded but I agree, a lot of the newer features are mostly software...
After the hoo-haa of the Note 10 release, probably 3 - 4 months away, the Note 9 should get a few of these features (those not dependent on the new hardware anyway)..
If not, Samsung is guilty of forcing you to upgrade simply for their financial gain.

I would pay them to use the features on my Note 9.
But I will never buy a phone without headphone jack and a punchout hole.
I'd really like the screen recorder software on the note 10+ to be ported to the note 9!
I recieved my note 10+ yesterday and its really not impressing me. It feels a little off for some reason. Maybe because the power button being on the left side? I can't quite place my distaste for this phone.
I find my fingers getting in the way of the camera quite easily. And the front facing camera, not sure if I'd ever get use to that. Every time I make/recieve a call all I see is that camera about to goto my ear and it feels like my ear is about to be violated by a doctor with a telephoto stethoscope?
Enough of that though! Yes, the screen recorder definitely needs to come to the note 9.

You can get native screen recording with good Lock using the nice shot module.
Isn't it a bit like you would have to buy a new PC every time windows comes with a new feature or something?
Anyway, I can search handwritten notes and also extract text, so I think Note9 already has Handwriting recognition? Maybe it's build in the the Note app itself?

Yep. No replaceable battery. No sdcard. But they brought back the sdcard, then brought in the dumb curved edges. Removing the headphone jack goes too far. I won't buy another Samsung if I cannot connect my headphones.

The curved display, while a little annoying, isn't so bad, you can get used to it --- my only huge complaint about it is that it makes cases a nightmare because you can't physically reach the edges of the screen thanks to the design of most cases... (Although arguably if you don't drop the phone you really don't need a case today thanks to the super-hard gorilla glass, I'm just paranoid from so many years of " just look at the phone to hard and it'll get a scratch" --- the one and only feature that flip phones really were a better design)
Also, I think I saw somewhere that one version of the Note 10 actually loses the SD card once again in favor of dual SIMs instead... (though that could be for specific markets where it's more popular like Asia)
I agree on the headphone jack - I actually spend considerable money on good headphones (both my main PC headphones and my phone headset are Sennheiser) because you simply cannot get the same quality from Bluetooth yet (not to mention that is one more device to remember to charge --- though when/if they could get charging as quick as the Spen I'd forgive that, I'd even give up longer listening times if I could just hold the headphones against the back of the device for 30 seconds to get an hour of listening time)
And here's a disturbing thought --- Is the removal of the headphone jack just a step towards removing ALL wired peripheral support? I mean we have wireless charging now, and wireless headphones/headsets, not to mention wireless keyboards/mouse and wireless displays (albeit with slow refresh time and/or high lag) so arguably they could "justify" removing the USB port as well to claim "now it's 100% sealed so it's more waterproof!" while, in reality, making it that much harder to root the phone (and conveniently making wireless peripherals "only work best with Samsung brands" like the Samsung's wireless earbuds)?

Well it's not like if technology shouldn't advance. I'm not saying the Jack has to go right now, but at some point it will need to. Could you imagine if digital cameras today still required a roll of film to use in some way?
Now instead of buying a roll of film, you buy an sdcard. Instead of buying wires, you buy wireless. Instead of using fax, you can now email.

OEM's put headphone jacks on phones back in the days of the flip phone. Now everyone is just copying Apple becasue it's so trendy. The jack will never be obsolete lol. Sure, IR and a jack connector are “old tech”. The launch date of the tech is not the relevant factor. What matters is whether these technologies remain in installed use. Most PA systems, projectors, TVs, air cons etc installed and in use in hotels, meeting rooms, schools, clubs and so on use these technologies.
So if you want to interface with them, you need those technologies.
I just love it when all these bleeding edge people with their bleeding edge gizmos discover that it takes an old fuddy-duddy with a proper ‘workhorse’ phone to be able to get the projector switched on before business can commence.

How idiodic to compare going from film to SD cards.. a clear improvement, both in terms of speed and reusability.
While on the other hand going from wired headphones with no audio quality loss,no batteries to recharge, and most importantly, NO BATTERIES TO RECHARGE.
Wireless headphones are useless for many people, including those who ride streetbikes and put headphones I. While riding. Good luck getting wireless headphones to fit under a helmet without turning your ears Into Swiss cheese, and hopefully you don't go out for more than 4 hours at a time, otherwise, no music 4 u!
It's not an "advancement". You don't need to remove the headphone jack to have the ability to use wireless headphones.
Say it with me one more time.... The lack of the 3.5mm headphone jack is just a way for companies to cut costs and make waterproof certification easier. It has nothing to do with "technology advancing". It's the same reason that only the note 4 had a IR blaster and then they stopped that. It was an incredibly useful feature that was cut to make more $$$. Samsung is doing it's best to put me on a xaomi or huwaie phone. Currently they seem to be the best phones on the market when you look at features vs price.

BMW has a car that can be charged wirelessly. Think of all the other tech that could be charged wirelessly in the future. Or what other advancements they can make based off that tech. Wait, why am I even talking about this? None of the TVs in my house have RGB connectors, and they said that's the best visual experience we could get. Now we have wireless 4k.
As for the troll guy, I am starting to think you might be the troll. Or you're just really hotheaded. You started your reply with calling my comparison idiotic. And you want an intelligent response from people? Nowhere in my post did I use inflamatory or disrespectful language, but in this one you'll get the feeling.
The point of my post was to show a logical reason for killing the headphone Jack. I even stated it shouldn't be killed right now, but no, you decided to skip over that first opening slice. I went on to agree with you on the fact that yes, they are doing it to cut cost. Hence "all businesses are in the business of making money!" Cause you know, people like money and companies have people in them. A shareholder's goal is to make as much money as possible so that the company keeps making money. Yes cut costs to save money. Hey look I was still agreeing with you.
You all sound like a bunch of old folks who don't like change. If you don't like the direction a company is going, buy some shares and be on the board of decision makers. If not, don't buy their devices. Or....go make your own.
Things will change with or without you, so either accept it or continue to feel bitter about old tech, yes OLD TECH, I SAID IT!!!
I need to stay off the internet at night. I seem to get into some weird stuff.
By the way, while y'all are *****ing about the 3.5mm headphone jack and missing it oh so much, Flynt Michigan STILL doesn't have clean water fam. STILL!??
TALK ABOUT LACK OF ADVANCEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY!
