Open Gapps with Stock Firmware!!? - Asus Zenfone 4

Is it possible to Flash Open Gapps Package, just after flashing Stock ROM from which all the apps from "system/app" & "system/priv-app" has been deleted...?
If anyone knows then you are very welcome to share your thoughts.
One thing weird I found out on XDA and that is, Most of the Zenfone 4 threads are nearly dead. And no one is developing ROMs or other things for this device.
Big Thanks in advance.

[Q] First custom Milestone ROM install question

OK this maybe a stupid question so I apologise in advance
But I have just installed my first custom ROM on my old Milestone
Followed all the instructions on the thread here
It all worked fine but no google apps ie. gmail and can't add google account
Is that normal?
Cheers
Guy
ps. thanks to all that are involved in doing instructions, creating these ROMs and other cool stuff that they don't get paid for
Google apps
Hello, u must install the google apps after u install the custom rom, just like u did with the rom, u take the googe apps and put them in Open recovery/updates.
The link from u get the google apps is :http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps
Go and download the gapps for your rom.
If u have CM6, the gapps are 20101114.
Brilliant...
Knew it was gonna be something simple
Thank you so much
Guy
Sorry quick question...
That version of gapps has old market
Will I have to update manually to latest version og gapps or will it now update automatically?
Is there a good forum post that covers these sorts of questions?
I haven't found one yet...

Yes, you can - not automatically though. Same procedure as the google apps. You can get the latest market from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918005
may I ask 2 extremely newbie questions myself ?
after installing CM6 in my Milestone, can I restore system settings and data from nandroid or Titanium backup.
thanks in advance
I'm pretty sure you can't do that...

Which gApps are you using?

if possible, please include WHY.

I'm using the 3/7 gapps because they are the latest version provided from the CyanogenMod gapps mirror.
No idea where the 3/25 build came from. Same as the unofficial CWM 3.0.0.5 that's floating around.

And the question is where did they come from? Because they certainly aren't from Cyanogen.

Ah, OK, misunderstood your initial post.
OP - I use the newest ones, lol. What the heck do you mean? Do you wanna know which .zip we flashed, or what actual google apps we use? The last gapps.zip I flashed was around 2/21, home-made .zip (because I don't use ALL the google apps). Since then I just update them form the market. I also was kindly informed that gapps are preserved in a flashover, which is why I haven't flashed a gapps.zip again. Also, the google apps are available publicly and for free on the android market, so after an update I use TB pro to "re-integrate into ROM" (which is the same basically as moving them from /data to /system).
Jason - whoa homey, chill. Gapps are free, and from GOOGLE (and most aren't even open source fyi), not aosp, you, or cyanogen. All anybody really does is put them in a .zip and make it flashable to /system. Feel free to correct me, but really, who cares.

The difference is that I've seen several reports of people getting force closes on the Setup Wizard, and (seeing as Setup Wizard is part of the gapps) there's no way to know if that's a bug in the ROM or because they're using gapps from some other source.
EDIT: It's just a constructive response. One dev for one phone made his own variant of gapps, while the rest of the CM users are using a different set. Troubleshooting is one step easier when everyone is using the same files, especially considering they're "universal" across devices now.

i've been using the one that's been floating around, 3/25... maybe this is why i sometimes have issues with the Market.
Thanks for your input. I'll start using the official 3/07 when i upgrade from asopCMod to CM7.0.0 Stable

1. Open zip of that 4.2 camera, see what is inside (what is changed)
2. Download deodexed zip for your firmware (but for camera I think you can use any) from here.
3. Remove/replace stuff that was overwritten with those files from 4.2 camera zip
4. You do not know how? You can use some root explorer or this on pc.
5. Lazy to do all this? Reflash your fw with Odin.
LOL to this. Trolling at its finest. Btw, if you would only look further in theme and apps section, you would definitely find this thread here.

[Q] Play Store .apk, Avatar ROM

Greetings all. I just finished flashing the Avatar ROM onto my Droid 4. I know I need to get the Play Store .apk file installed. The versions I have found via the search option do NOT function on my device with that ROM installed and I am getting tired of downloading and failing.
Would somebody be so kind as to link the .apk for me?
Or maybe I am missing a special way to instal...?
P.S. I have not posted enough on this website to ask in the Dev section under this ROM.

You need to flash a gapps package. I believe the 12/31 build of Avatar is up to Android version 4.3 now. Go to "about phone" and check to be sure. If so, go here: http://goo.im/gapps and download the 20130813 package and install via safestrap. If still on 4.2.2 use the 20130812 package.

Thanks kwyrt!
This is my first phone attempt, I have done a few mods on my tablet. Never needed to do the gapps. I guess I also need to report a problem back to the Avatar dev, as the ROM has an updater that is also supposed to include the gapps and it keeps failing to update.
Now to figure out how to get the package on with safestrap. (I have only used Clockwork).
Worked perfectly!!! THANK YOU!
Hey... ummm... I accidently deleted the clock apk. Know how o can get it again. Looks like that apk controls the alarm when using the dock.

Wipe cache and dalvik cache. Reflash the ROM. As long as you don't wipe data you won't have to re-set up anything.
Good idea, but my boot loader is locked. Don't think I can keep root if I flash to stock.

Yet Another Stock ROM for NEXUS 5

As the thread title suggest, its yet another stock ROM for Nexus 5.

Tips and Tricks:
- install Naptime by Francisco from Playstore. One of the best app to be ever released IMO.
- Install xda edition BatteryStats app to monitor your device.
- If your device is not going to Deep Sleep state(Stock issue with latest Play Services) then install Disable Service app from Playstore and go to Google Services Framework and check SystemUpdateService. You might have to do this after every reboot.
- sometimes after reboot(continuously rebooting...like when I try to customize my layers theme and I have to reboot every time just to apply or delete) , when you open PlayStore, It says background data disabled although its not. Just removed PlayStore from recent apps and re-open PlayStore. It should work fine now.
updated.
Only Stock for now.

I have moved on to Shamu.
Hi,
Any chances for an odex, non-rooted build of Android N, when Google uploads the source code to AOSP?
I'd pay for this.
Yes, there is a chance. Rom with Gapps, no root and odex'll be released to continue stocklike feeling for N5 as i can predict

This is all I wish for.
Are you going to do it?
No, me not, too slow internet connection to download AOSP but i know, that someone'll do it like on N4 with M release
Been living with stock Google OTAs for almost 5 years now, it's a real good feeling.
You'll need to unlock bootloader for new release For me, stock google images are good, but not too good for daily use

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Pity, wish Google kept supporting it. Receiving OTAs is effortless and convenient.
I will be uploading stock flashable zip till Google supports it.
I want to know if people are interested in modified stock too.

Stock flashable zip sounds great.
Will I need to flash Gapps too? Or does it come embeded already?
I suppose I will not be able to sideload it through stock recovery, right?

Maybe you could do like Cyanogen, a stock AOSP zip, and the user flashes the Gapps of choice?
I like the "stock" Gapps myself. Nexus-esque experience.
Yes continue to debloat, and leave gapps to the individual preference. Thank you for your work.
