micro SDXC 64GB

I'm wondering if the SanDisk Ultra SDXC 64GB would work in the HTC magic?
If it works, what file system is to be used? exFat doesn't work right? So Will I have to, like use partition magic to force a 64gb fat32 partition?
I have no experience with android 2.1 or any version for that matter, still awaiting delivery of my first android phone. The HTC Magic (unbranded, naturally)

Me obviously.
and the reason is so i can switch from using the card in my digital camera, my HTC shift and the android phone. and not to have to keep switching multiple cards.. really a lot of reasons.

Well it sounds like someone here has money to burn.
In theory it should work... however I haven't heard of anyone using one before so I cannot say for certain. Give it a try and let us know either way.

Do Not bother getting it. A friend of mine working for FCC center. I snagged one to try out. Man it does not work with any format. Seems like this is hardware of the phone that can not handle it. Friend got technician to look at it, they are all confused why not.
All newer phone from Nexus One, will all takes in the card and read and writes it. But just slow.
Plus $350 is a rip off. The MSRP price for a 64GB SDXC is on $210 to authorized premier resellers.

Thanks, of what I understand from your message.

$210 for MSRP? I told him it cost $110. He must be day dreaming aging while I was lecturing him. Anyway it is best to wait for compatibility check from phone manufacturing for best hardware compatibility.

A few of the phone specs I've seen has said up to 32gb but from my experience they're pretty unreliable at updating those figures as newer and bigger cards get released, that's why I started this thread asking for confirmation.
I'm going to sell off my HTC MAGIC vodafone branded and buy , either samsung galaxy 9000 or the new HTC Desire HD (european EVO4G). I just can't decide yet.

Not all new phones are ready for sdxc memory cards. They are both hardware and software prerequisite.
I would do some research on what phone u want to get. But at same time galaxy s sux, sdxc. Do not work with the card.
Warning spoiler : galaxy s pro will be compatible with sdxc. The phone will only be exclusive in Korea.

What he said. You can't just pop an SDXC card on an SDHC-compatible device. It's like saying you're wearing size 14 shoes because your size 11 foot fits inside those shoes.

It wont work because (AFAIK) Android doesnt contain drivers for SDXC. If you insert a SDXC card into your Android device, it will problably just treat it as a SDHC card.

That's a regular SD c ard, not a micro format, there are no known 64gb micro SDXC cards in existence. Also a 32gb, regular SDHC card is still 65$ US - and that's class 4, I can't begin to imagine how much a 64gb SDXC is going to cost.
Also how reliable will it be, there's limits to this stuff when managing the size of flash chips.

There are a few objective questions that might merit answers, such as:
1-Are the micro-SDHC and micro-SDXC physical formats, the card sizes and contacts, the same or not? Web posts say that they are and are not, apparently half of those posts are in error and it seems that if the sdxc cards are working in sdhc phones--they are?
2-Is a specific file system driver, in the phone's OS distribution, needed? If so, what?
3-Is a specific file system format of the sdxc card itself required? If so, what? (Presumably requiring a format on a computer that provides for that option if the phone doesn't.)
And then of course, a list of phones actually known and confirmed to work with the precious beasts.
Personally, yes, I think 64GB on the removeable card is ridiculous. But then again, it will cost less than an iPod Classic and it will let me take an extensive music collection "everywhere". Which my own 32GB card won't right now.
There's a reason the iPhone4S has a 64GB memory option now. For some of us, the extra memory will be gladly put to good and economical use. If our phones support it.

At present no phone fully supports microsdxc, even if it reads the card, you wont get the full size or speed from a phone, even the fastest phone on the market cannot take full advantage of the speed of present card, and most phones accepts microsdhc at class 2-10, but you only get low transfer rate, I have the new 16GB uhs1 microsdhc from both toshiba (class 10) and sandisk (class 6), both have verys low speed just like that of class 2-4 when used in mobile phones, so uhs 1 microsdhc is out of the question in mobile phone.
I also seen available the sandisk 64GB microsdxc available in hong kong, not really expensive when compared to the USA, it's approximate USD150, will get one next month to try out.

That's way better than the US prices. Please DO let us know how it works out.

Sandisk US has no interest in the matter, all they know is that Moto "only supports" 32GB. Which they really don't understand means only that no one has tested 64GB sdxc in the phone, so no one has anything to say about it.

hi kms108, I see you own an Xperia Ray. Did you try the 64gb sd in the Ray? Can you share with us if it works or not? While Googling I only find people speculating that since it works on the Play, it should work on the Ray too, but I hope you can confirm this for real..

It would be much cheaper and even as effective to simply get a Ribbon adapter (microSD to SD) and buy a standard 128GB SD card with a good write speed.

That is true and you should theoretically even get better performance and data integrity from the card with the larger surface area. However there is the convenience to the micro sd of have not having to worry about possible mods to make it fit inside your case etc

Bingo- I have a ribbon adapter soldered to a Kingston sdcard. Believe me its a pain if I want to remove it to put it in an adapter to go in the PC for whatever reason. It was difficult to solder, it's difficult to fit, and just plain a nuisance overall (but I do love having my 70gb music library and tons of leftover room for videos or whatever). Even I would strongly consider getting a $200 ish 128gb microsdxc.

I don't understand what Sandisk is waiting for. There is obviously a demand for 128GB microsdxc cards. is it possible that Sandisk couldn't manage to fit 128GB on the tiny microsdxc card?(not yet anyway?)

Its a combination of time it takes to develop the technology and making a production pipeline for it. Once its ready they're not gonna make 100 of those cards - they're gonna make 100 million of them.

It's probably pressure from the network carriers. The service providers want people using smaller built-in memory so they use the cloud more. If users rely on the cloud over local storage, there is a much higher likelihood they'll go over their monthly data cap and get charged for overage. It's likely part of the reason Apple is the only major smartphone manufacturer (that I can think of) that hasn't adopted expandable memory via a MicroSD card slot. A 128GB MicroSD card would allow the majority of people to carry their entire collection of music, videos and pics around. Bandwidth demand would drop and carriers would lose overage revenues.

Yeah but their is a shi* ton of people qho take thousands of pics and videos. Music etc. Unless they go 64GB internal or 128GB internal there is still a need.

Disagree.
Carriers aren't making the phones. Carriers do want people to rely on added data usage but don't want to over-burden data plans which is exactly what streaming 128 gigs of media would do if it weren't onboard.
My media collection is just over a terabyte still and I have no desire to try to stream that even on my unlimited data plan.
BTW, HTC is also on this 'no expandable storage' kick for some reason. I think they're just being cheap on components to maximize profit.

the delay is most likely they're still testing the card to make sure it works as expected on various devices. These cards are used in other devices besides phones.
I highly double carriers have much input into this. The memory makers are always looking for ways to add more storage and a reasonable price for profit. And more and more, mobile devices are not including ways to expand memory; then the phone can be charge for stupid amount for a tiny bit of extra memory.
Like many, I look forward to having the extra memory. I seem to blow through memory on my phone; yet, not on the tablet.

Cant wait till these are out!
I have way too much music, and to be honest, this would be great for carrying roms and kernels with me, as well as other stuff in case I have to do an emergency reflash. 128GB would be dandy to have.

At the time that the phone was released, the largest capacity sdcx micro card available was 64gb. I suppose that theoretically, the phone might be able to see higher cards when they are released.

8 months ago I bought a SanDisk 64GB micro SD for $56. I think it has been out for almost 2 years. When the 128GB comes out it will drop in price quick. Why? Because they need to get them sold before the 256GB comes out. Then the 512GB. Then the 1TB and so on...

What really matters is that this phone supports microSDXC, so it should support any size microSDXC. All of my android phones worked with the 64gb microSDXC even though this is the first one that officially supported it.

Suggest me a good SD card for Tab S 10.5

Noticed some members said that the tab doesnt work properly with some SD cards. So I would like to ask first b4 i waste money into something that i cant use.
I need a SD card with minimum capacity of 64GB, 128GB would be nice. And the read/write speed need to as fast as possible(slightly faster than what the tab can do should be ok).
Please suggest me 1, and let me know what i should avoid too when picking, thanks.

Best Micro SD Card for Note8

Hello guyz,
Can you please recommend me the best microSD card for our phone in 128GB or 256GB?
I am leaning towards Samsung Pro Plus 128GB or EVO Plus 256GB. Should I go for speed or size?
Also there is Sandisk Extreme with similar speeds and Lexar Professional with read speeds @ 150mb/s, but I'm note sure if these speeds are overkill for a Note8..

I would also like to know cause eBay has so many fake ones.

I honestly have had issues with every sdhc I've used except for the EVO's. I don't know about other Samsung classes but I personally would stick with genuine Samsung memory cards.

I've been using the 256GB EVO that Samsung was giving out for the Note7 promo. Been working great.

I lost my $32 for useless SD card

I wouldn't worry too much about speed, as you can install apps on the SD card (correct me if I'm wrong). I would go for size over speed.

Never had issues with the Samsung or Sandisk memory cards for mobile devices, I have used everything from 2gb cards to 256gb cards and I will be looking at the 400gb card as soon as Sandisk gets it to retailers.

Samsung EVO Plus Grade 3, Class 10 128GB MicroSDXC thats one i have in my Note8 and as i don't shot lot of 4k videos that speed is enough

Best price/size/performance? Probably Samsung Evo+ line of cards, based on the following (it's a guess, I have not benchmarked them myself):

Do not rely on only the manufacturers' ratings, they can be way off and sometimes read is fast, but write is slow (or vice versa). The most expensive is not always the fastest either. Further, some excel in big sequantial reads, others are a tad better in random read/write IOPS. Even further, Note8 card interface probably is NOT able to use the maximum speed out of the latest UHS-II cards.
And yes, do NOT buy on eBay, unless you are willing to gamble or really know what you are doing.

I just bough an Sandisk microSdhc Extreme 128 GB, Class 10, U3 UHS-2.
I emailed Samsung about my Note 8 and they told me that it supports UHS-2 cards.
When running tests on phone I get MAX 60write 60read
Only on DiskSeed Test App I got 287 MB/S read and 37 MB/S write.
Any input?

I've had my 64gb SD card in my s5 before putting it in my note 8. I might be lucky, but I figured Samsung cards work best in Samsung devices, idk. But yeah, it's been about 3 years and the SD card is going strong.

Galaxy Note 8 has many options for microSD Card for it. Here I found much different Note 8 Memory Card.

Never had an issue with any Sandisk microSDCard. I have had a bunch of them and they all work fine.

I'm another using the Samsung 256 EVO that came with the Note 7 promo. It also worked fine in an S7Edge for a while before I got the Note 8.

Anyone know where to get this one at a better deal? When it comes to device storage I'm not as much concerned with speed as I am with size and having 400GB at your fingertips, on the go, is just pretty freakin' awesome.
Btw...for those looking for more speed, I happened to catch this video on YouTube the other day that explains what the different speed markings on the sd cards actually mean if anyone's interested. I found it to be fairly informative.

The impact between the Samsung SD & Sandisk is not so Big I guess. Anyway i have a pro SD card from Samsung in my Note 9 & what to Say? Works perfect.. but if you get more space for same price..i would recommend the Samsung anyway..

That depends on what you're going to store on the SD card. If it's music or data that's doesn't need lightning access, go for 256GB. You're getting 2x storage with same price. 100 mb/s read is not less either.
The premium cards with names like Extreme or Pro advertising more than a hundred MB/s speeds are useful for cases like 4K video recording or RAW (or burst shot) photography.
I assume your Note9 still has plenty of storage to do these stuff. You can always record or shoot photos on internal storage and can anytime move the older ones to SD card if you get low on storage.
As I have said, please do share the reason you're thinking about getting 100+ GB SD card.

Mainly high quality photo's, high quality videos, high quality music often .flac instead of .mp3 & possibly some movies..
You're correct assuming that my Note 9 has plenty of storage left I've only used 29gb out of 128gb, however I prefer to keep music, photos & videos on a removable storage
The reason I'm thinking about getting 100gb+ is because I already have 3 MicroSD cards full at this moment in time, they're 32, 32, & 16 so that is already 80gb in total, so a 64gb MicroSD wouldn't be much use, the next one up is 128gb...
I want to move all the contents of the 3 MicroSD cards & move them on to the 1, easy to manage my files that way
I often backup the MicroSD contents on to my PC twice a month, I'd want that to be fast as possible
It's my understanding that the V30 certification is for filming & saving 4K video directly on to the MicroSD right?, That wouldn't be too important as I'd film it on to my device first then move it later on..
However the A2 certification is regarding read speed right? Which is 170mb/s on the SanDisk compared to 100mb/s on the Samsung, how noticeable is the extra 70mb/s and it what circumstances?

Yes, V30 means the card can sustain continuous video recording at 30 MB/s. You said you're going to record on internal storage itself (and you should be) so that shouldn't matter much to you.

I consider the 256GB to be having far more VFM. Your backup frequency will also get halved with double storage, no?
You can never go wrong with either of these. Premium memory cards like V30 are meant for professional video recorders and camera. Playing even 4K videos requires around 50 mbps and FLAC are under 1 mbps.
I think you should get double the memory for same the price!

Yes I'd record on internal so V30 can be forgotten about pretty much
Could I also expect bottlenecking on the Samsung 256gb?, & yes my backup frequency would probably be reduced to once a month with the increased space
Yeah the V30 certification would definitely make a difference to me if I was using a professional camera etc. But as it's my Note 9 & I'd be saving to internal, I don't necessarily need it
I'll probably end up going with the Samsung 256gb thank you very much for your help!

Yes, by bottleneck I mean the capabilities of Memory Controller and Card Readers.
Upon reading over the internet, I have found most SD cards averaging Read/Write below 70 MB/s. Read one benchmarking here for Samsung EVO+ 256GB UHS-1 microSDXC U3 that advertises speeds over 90 MB/s.
The bottleneck here is the card reader on Note9 as well as the hardware limits.
Even on a PC, the card interface or the adapter (in case you use that) could be bottlenecks.
I think you're going the right way with double the memory with same the price. There's diminishing returns on higher performance with increasing price.

Both are good brands. However if you are probably gonna get the same data transfer speeds on your device as the Note 9 doesn't have a very fast microSDcard writter in it.

I have a Samsung Evo Plus 256gb and it's good and fast. I can only recommend it
