Hi guys,
Im still running around with my Oneplus One and am thinking of buying a new phone.
In the end i guess it will come down to axon 7 vs Oneplus 3(T).
I always thought that the 3T is much better when it comes to custom software which is a pretty big point for me as i only had good experience with the one. On the other hand the Axon 7 has some special feature like the screen that might make it better than the 3T despite the availibility for custom software on the Axon 7 is still a topic.
Overall im listening to a lot of music with my headphones and the axon 7 is supposed to have a very good audio experience (only talking about headphones, not the speakers)
How is the oneplus 3T audio quality in comparison and is there any improvment comming for the Oneplus One?

I'm only a few hours from picking up mine
But I would say the onboard DAC will be better than OP1, The 821 will bring some improvements more and the customisability of it gives modders a great chance to tinker. I found this an interesting video seems great but something is wrong but nothing an update cannot fix. The op3 is the same hardware wise on sound and that video is there to. https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=-d-EQ1X2Rh0
Later on today I will compare it to my Z3+ with my fiio and without and tell you my thoughts
There are plenty of good sound mods and ports out there. I'm rocking Xtreme music just now.

I'm also curious to use the USB C port for audio might buy a fiio k1.

Hey! I was just wondering if there's anyone in here with a OnePlus 3 who can tell me something about the quality of the in-built microphones.
The ones in the OnePlus 2 were really bad so I was hoping for better ones in the 3.
Thanks in advance!
So yeah, I bought the OnePlus 3 yesterday and I can tell you that the mic quality has improved significantly, which is awesome!
In what setting did you try the recording? What kind of music if any?
My buddy also got one, we called each other and the quality is excellent!
Hello my one plus was working fine with audio till Nougat update. Now because of the built in equalizer the sounds are All over the place. High lows, mids low bass high treble. Tried a different equalizer app and helps a little but then I put a different song and back to tuning the equalizer again. Shi sucks! What can I do? Factory reset as of now is not an option because that's the Only issue I am facing. Might just buy a cheap O Android phone Just for music because this is plain rediculous. My head hurts after hearing such terrible sounds. Definitely won't blow out my speakers due to OnePlus ass. Any suggestions? Or just go ahead buy a new phone and use it as an MP3 player.

Disable the built in equalizer and try using a music player with a equalizer built into the app. You could also try a more powerful system-level equalizer like viper.
I'm not sure how bad you audio quality is, but surely it can't justify carrying around a second phone just for music?
Compared to my other phone which is Zenfone 3 ZE520KL with ZenUI Marshmallow, I can confirm that the OP3 and OP3T produce a less good sound for music listening. It gives me a slight headache when I use it for long music listening session.
I regularly stream music from Spotify with Extreme quality settings using my Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphone for when I work in front of laptop and Audio Technica ATH-CKS550iS IEM when I want to listen to music when I outside office/home.
So, IMHO for sound reproduction, my Zenfone 3 with only half of my OP3T price still wins.
I hope OP could look on this issue in the next update and not just focusing on phone interface smoothness and benchmark apps performance.
Agree, if you listen to music with no or stock EQ, the sound isn't great. ViperFX completely fixes this though.
Thank you for your replies fellas!

I haven't noticed anything but I started to use this a long time ago and has a version for the one plus 3. I had to use the hotfix version. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/soundmod-ainur-audio-t3450516

Edit: I also have a Fiio A1 for giving me more juice to my AKG-550 and Y55. Always swear by fiio price to performance also got the K1 for USB audio I use for my laptop. It's worth getting if you listen to music alot.

Came here because my ZE520KL sounds like ultra lo-fi after the Nougat update. All my high quality music, at least when not playing the entire sound range at once, sounds like those badly encoded MP3s.

If I were you, I would buy the LG V20 or LG G6 with quad DAC if you're really into the Hi-Res music.
OnePlus phone is sucked big time in audio department, they even don't really care about this
I don't know about the Zen 3 Nougat update anymore since I already sold this phone a few months ago
Latest 7.1.1 seems to get a better sound drivers!

Not really a big matter, but I want at least up-to-par quality. Came from a Nexus 5, after a Zenfone 5, after an iPod 4, and I couldn't tell a difference between them - also couldn't with MM Zenfone 3. But the Nougat update released for Zenfone 3 killed it's audio completely... I'm not an audiophile, but it's a BIG difference, and it's really a buzzkill when you're expecting a song you know in quality, and suddenly it's crap with the only variable being the ROM version...

Better try to flash the full zip rather than wait for the OTA to come to your phone.
Pocket now did a review and where impressed by the audio quality apart from some auto equaliser "magic" which now can be turned off in audio settings.
Between my friends s7 and my aunt's G5 this device is capable of running my AKG Y55 (Amazing price, great for those bass head's) and my more flat 550 mk2 struggle but my trusty Fiio A1 pumps that extra needed juice. I use tidal as my music addiction costs a fortune buying CDs and flac albums :silly: and now on desktop they have some MQA albums that sound amazing.
http://www.whathifi.com/tidalmasters/review
Also with some digging i found that One plus takes advantage of Qualcomm's https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapdragon/2016/11/18/snapdragon-821-gives-oneplus-3t-power-push
And in apps i see Dirac http://www.dirac.com/mobile-audio/
So my final assessment to me is this phone pushes well above its weight in the sound department but like most mobile devices it is the output power that suffers. Either get a external DAC (Fiio A1 http://headfonics.com/2016/04/the-a1-by-fiio/) if you are into tunes but want to spend minimum £$ and want portability.
A Few posts back there is a great audio mod that isn't witchcraft that i swear by, Nero is my choice but kills the built-in equaliser as it bypasses CPU offloading and pushes it straight to the built-in DAC.
Sorry for all the links i like to be thorough
Same here, after android 7.0 my Asus zenfone 3 sounds very bad.
I was impressed by its music quality before 7.0 update. I hope there will be a fix.
I am on Sprint and currently have the LG V30+ someone I know has a Note 9 that I can buy for $475 cash. I'm big on photos and play some games like PUBG and a couple others. I understand on the tech side the Note has more RAM (4gb vs 6gb) and the upgraded processor (835 vs 845). Just want to make sure it makes sense, any input appreciated!

I just went from LG V30 to Note 9 snapdragon, and I can (anecdotally) say it is better in almost every way, with the exception of sound. The DAC on LG is way better. But display, camera, battery life, and processing speed are better on the Note. There is also the S pen, but I have yet to find a use for mine.

Good to know, that's what I was hoping to hear. The last Note I had was a 4 and it was awesome. I do like the DAC but it sounds like there is way more positives.

Definitely more positives. But man, after having good sound, it's hard to move to something inferior. Around 60% of my phone use is music, whether it's at home, on my car, or outside. I just wish I had gone for the Exynos version so that I could at least root and add viper. But it's the only thing I miss.
The software is also more polished, and Samsung adds a lot of value with their custom user interface. Some may consider it bloat, but I like it.

For 475 buy it. I'd buy them all day long at 475. If you don't like it, sell it and make a couple hundred dollars on it. No brainer IMO.

Hi, I also listen to music a lot. And I also have a Snapdragon Note 9. I have a couple of questions, as you seem to really enjoy your mobile music as well..
1 - Is it not good enough using the Dolby Atmos + Equalizer provided by default? Would Viper be much of an improvement? I can hear a considerable difference using these two, compared to no tuning at all.
2 - For wired headphones VS bluetooth.. I know Bluetooth is still not comparable, but I got the Jabra Elite 65t and quite enjoy it. Sometimes I still use my wired ones though. Does Viper work well for both wired and Bluetooth? Does it really improve the experience?
3 - Apart from Viper, any personal recommendations that might make listening to music a better experience?
I went V30 to Note 9 Exynos and it's been great, the DAC in the Exynos devices is really not too far from the V30's.
Plus just saw a video of a real day use of the camera on note 9 vs pixel 3 xl and apart from front and night shots note 9 did better then the pixel.

Appart from an old set of 3.5 apple eardbuds, I listen mostly via Bluetooth. Atmos makes a little improvement. Problem is there is no custom option. I have a Pixel 2 XL as a backup phone, and I use it more than the N9 because of viper for Android. The amount of control on viper can be overwhelming, but if you take the time so can be the results. It works on all my apps (Spotify, Pandora, Play Music and TuneIn) and you can save a different preset for every Bluetooth device if you want to. Viper might not make Bluetooth headsets as good as wired ones, but it makes damn close.
Besides viper I have used Equalizer FX. It does give you some control but it does not work with Pandora or TuneIn, sometimes you have to restart the app, and with pie beta it does not seem to work at all.
Early leaked information mentioned "Xiaomi claims sound has also been improved with 'industry's best linear speaker', equivalent to 0.9cc large speaker box with deeper bass, Smart PA uses dynamic gain to amplify sound by 100%".
Has there been any real life reviews of the speaker quality as of yet?

"Loudspeaker
A lot of things have changed since the Mi 8, but the loudspeaker is not one of them. We were disappointed to find out that the Mi 9 doesn't boast stereo speakers. Instead, it has the same bottom-firing loudspeaker as the Mi 8 and it even scored the same Very Good mark at our loudness test."

Very conflicted on this, on one hand Xiaomi seem to be confident that the Mi 9's speaker has improved & have advertised it like shown on the article yet the GSMArena review claims the speaker is basically identical to the Mi 8, keen to see what other reviewers say

Yeah I'm the exact same. I was getting myself psyched for some next level improvements to the speaker with the bass claims etc but indeed really hope this is the case!

Yeah I am.
Currently got the Pixel 2 XL and whilst I'm sure the speakers won't be anywhere near as good as these stereo ones, I'm very curious about "Xiaomi claims sound has also been improved with 'industry's best linear speaker', equivalent to 0.9cc large speaker box with deeper bass, Smart PA uses dynamic gain to amplify sound by 100%"

Hoping they announce a Global transparent edition, if not I'll probably end up with the standard one
Speaker for me is a decent single speaker, coming from OnePlus 6t with there single speaker its better imo.
It's got a decent amount of bass to it!
Bring back the glory of stereo speaker just like Mi6 then?
Hi there..
I've just bought my X2 Pro and I'm so satisfied with it.
But the main point is the sound quality output is so poor and lakes the details,
I'm coming from Xiaomi Note 5 AI and the sound with my earphones Xiaomi Pro HD Hybrid was so awesome and high detailed (really HD Audio) and the clarity was so fine with it,
But when I plug the earphones with the X2 Pro I notice the big difference, it became so poor and distortion is visible like I bought cheap earphones or somethining
I tried hard with the Dolby Atmos settings but with no good
Please help me guys, I'm so disappointed!
Any help?
The output from the headphones is very low even if kept on full volume . I was using oppo f9 pro without any Dolby Atmos in it but still the output quality and sound was just up to the next level and m using same Sony in ear sports edition expensive headphones with X2 pro however very very disappointed . I think we should report this to realme and ask them to fix it in their next software update coz it's a Flagship device from realme and they have priced it close to OnePlus 7 series. I still regret not buying OnePlus 7 just to save some bucks.
Bought this street using the k20 pro. The audio at high volume has a lot of distortion and disturbance. Is it a software glitch? If so, can someone tell me how to solve this?
Amplifier sucks here, that's all. It's the same story with all these mid-range phones and budget flagships. They may have kept the headphone jack, but it's essentially useless for anybody who cares even a little bit about sound quality.
Get a $30 dongle and move on.
Contrarry to what you guys report. I am using Poweramp, with equalizer tweaked to my likings, output from the 3.5mm jack is phenomenal. I am using signature acoustics c12 with high res wav and flac file formats..cant comment about Atmos but yes the volume is just about adequate, not low but certainly not loud..
