Is it possible to leave youtube play in the background ?
Background app or at least tab in a browser that supports flash play in background.
From what i know...
Youtube policy prevents users from playing movies on the non-active tab.
Fash is a resource drainer and letting it run in the background will cause significant lag and battery depletion.

Opera allows you to play a video in the background on a tab. Or you can us an app call stickit (video player, you must use the share function in youtube to make it work). Hope it helps.

Thanks. Works in the background tab. Shuts down once you press the home button. But still better than nothing
Use nextvid on market

I also use NextVid, its free, supports playlists, but I haven't find a way to import an entire YouTube playlist into NextVid, so I had to search for songs manually and create new playlist
A small solution for NextVid

While doing a search on NextVid, search for your own channel name (and / or your playlist name with a space between them).
Then on the search results, press 'Playlists' instead of 'Videos'.
There is your playlist, but a bit missing, because this playlists, as far as i observe, are limited to show only the first 25 videos.
So you must first prepare your playlists 25 by 25 on youtube then search with NextVid.
Hope this helps.
I'll be releasing a free and paid version of this as soon as the SDK is finalized. The paid version will feature a higher limit on the amount of photos you can cast, customizable timing between photos, more image transitions, and perhaps control over the slideshow itself.
Cool! I will definitely be picking up a picture app as soon as the SDK allows. And I'm sure I am not the only one looking forward to casting their photos to their TV.
Will you be able to pause, skip, back up, zoom etc?
Also, any plans to allow multiple users to create a shared queue from separate phones ... like the YouTube app allows?
Working on controlling the slideshow now. Then I'll be working on adding photos to the slideshow from the same device. I'll look into a shared queue, that's a good idea. Thanks!
Definitely keep us informed on your progress. I like the ability to flick through pictures on the phone and mirroring it on the TV. Is this a function that your app will have exclusive or is it an ability the stock gallery has as well?
Good news and bad news Scott:
The bad news is that flicking through the photos at the end had no effect on which image was shown, they were just in the same order because I set that album to cast. I apologize for making that unclear in the video. However, in the final version, slideshow control will be in the notification dropdown (4.1+ required), or from a controller app.
The good news is that the app you see in the video is the stock gallery. The app I wrote simply adds the Chromecast as a "share to" option at the top. That means that you will have the ability to cast any image system-wide, as long as it has a share button with it.
Why not just use tabcasting with Google+? It's free and you can create whatever album you want.

Tabcasting doesn't work from android.

This is great stuff but I hate being force to select the pictures before chromecasting. I would want this to work just like the native gallery app but with Chromecasting in that I bring up the gallery and select to cast. Then I can flip through pictures and if I stop on one for more then 1 sec (configurable) then it will cast that photo. This was I can flip through pictures casting them on the fly...
I'm looking forward to seeing this app released. Being able to cast the gallery is something I definitely have been looking forward to.

This would require a rewritten "Gallery" app, adding swipe listeners and whatnot. I'm just trying to keep it simple. My app doesn't show up in the app drawer, it's treated more like an extension of Android. I do appreciate your feedback though, it's a great idea. Maybe someone will pick it up.
Wouldn't it be prudent to expect that most, if not all, gallery and slide show apps to have a Chromecast button in the future?
Is it possible to send commands to the pebble to open up a certain pebble app via the smartphone. Such as using tasker to create a task that when a music app is opened a certain pebble app is opened on the watch to control the volume or skip to the next song.

Like he already told you, yes you can, using that app. There are intents you can send to open up and close the watch app, among other things.
Example of Tasker creation that uses that feature:

What are these intents to open or close a watch app? Specifically the Music app? I guess these are part of the SDK, but without having to download it, does anyone have these handy?
Sorry to bump a dead thread, but I'm looking to do the same thing.
Edit: I figured out how to do it! Inside the settings for Music Boss, go to Tasker Integration and make sure that launch watch app intent is selected.
Then in Tasker, make a profile that activated when your music app is open. Go to to tasks, and create a send intent action, then select the action field and paste this into it: ca.rebootsramblings.musicboss.LAUNCH_MB_WATCHAPP
All done! You can also make an exit task by typing CLOSE_MB_WATCHAPP instead.
Edit 2: Oh my, you can even have it change which app your controlling. I now have Music Boss open up on the pebble and switch which app it controls when I open Play Music, Beyondpod, Netflix, or Hulu.

Bubblepnp and sidebyside player. Might also need Gear VR pro to stop oculus auto loading

I would also be interested in this. Also... There are other apps that stream like show box or MovieHD... How could we watch videos from these?

Showbox content can be downloaded and transfered to another folder to access in Oculus video. Thats the only way I've found.
That's how i do it also, but it would be great to be able to watch without downloading

Yes, kodi can be configured for VR, there are alot of youtube videos showing how to set it up. Used it yesterday. Just takes practice. You will also need a Bluetooth controller. Good luck.

Guys. Just use MilkVr Launcher. + Emby Server. It let's you watch any movie (including 3D) through wifi network. For me It works fine.
https://github.com/heavykick/MilkVRLauncher/releases
I was testing kodi but for me MilkVr Launcher > Kodi in terms of usage and performance.
Can you describe it better? Milkvr asks me about some link. What link does it need?
Why do I need to install embe if Kodi exposes itself as DLNA server?
Buy a cheap bluetooth control pad off ebay to use as a mouse. Then get Cardboard Enabler from the play store or search online to disable oculus from auto starting on connection. Problem solved

MilkVr creates link inside of MilkVR folder so application thinks that film is inside folder.
Just follow the description on the github site it is very easy to do it and believe me. I have tried around 10+ solutions to watch videos on gear vr and in case of image quality nothing matches Milkvr.
If you have problems contact me on hangouts([email protected]) we can speak in Polish about it, will be much easier

Hi
of course you can use any DLNA-Server. You can also use a NAS or the Windows-DLNA ...
What does MilkVRLauncher do?
It forwards links to SamsungVR (was named MilkVR before) and that's it. So when you have a link to a video source you can start MilkVRLauncher and paste the link to forward it to SamsungVR.
But often you don't have the link to the video source, because Android internals pass the link to your VLC or VideoPlayer or may be to a download manager.
When Android does find more then one app that can take care about the link it will ask you which app to use, and this I did use because android knows that MilkVRLauncher can handle VideoLinks.
And this is the second way to get the link for the video source into my app. The most common way!
What's now about DLNA?
There is no DLAN client in the MilkVR launcher itself. But there a DLNA "Browsers" for Android available. Browsers that will pass the link to the video source to android, where android does ask you witch video player you want to use. And there we are!
Usable DLNA apps for Android are AnDLNA or BubbleUpnP ...
And why Emby?
If you don't have a NAS and want to use a media server this is one like each other. I did use it in the beginning, because you can use the Emby android app and chose external player where you can pick the milkVRLauncher.
And yes, you can also use links from internet pages and stream direct from the internet. But often the links on homepages are not direct links and we need direct links, because milkVrLauncher does not follow forwards
Any further questions? Just ask me!
you can download my app from GitHub.

With a USA IP from a VPN service , you coud install an app called Samsung Phone Cast. With this app, you coud use any app installed on your phone. This app is avaible on Oculus store, but only on USA users.
Hi there,
In my Android car head unit I'm using Tasker for automatic starting poweramp after booting, which works quite good but only for poweramp.
Now I'm using also sometimes other media apps like DAB-Z and I'm searching a solution for identifiying the last playing media app.
If the media app is paused the variable should be kept to the last playing app so at least the stored variable should only change, if another media app is playing.
In my case it's "only" DAB-Z and Poweramp.
Anyone knows a solution for this?
Thanks
Why not just create two profiles, one for each app launched and update the same variable.

That would also be a good option
But how can I set a variable after opening an app?
Create a profile with the app as a context then set a variable in the task.
This is a very basic configuration. If you're still unsure, it will benefit you to review some tutorials targeted to beginners. There are many videos and written tutorials for tasker, both here on xda and on the internet in general.
