[How-To] Update to I537_OC7 - 5.0.1 and KeepRoot

**You can begin the following process from 4.4.x Build/ROM or higher but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
**Caution!** The following process is only for the I537 AT&T S4 "Active" variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
Download:
- I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM
Pevious Builds:
- I537_OC6_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- I537_OC6_Stock_DeOdexed_ROM
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the I537_OC7_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot.
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the AT&T splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (15 - 20mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:

Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- I537_OC7_TetherAddOn
- I537_OC6_TetherAddOn (Flash using FF's "Flash zip or ota" option.
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.

First of all, thank you thank you thank you so much for this. Yeah I grabbed you the OTA's but thanks to you (and of course Chainfire & his FlashFire) we can go from KK to LP with root. And on day one of the OTA. Awesome. :good: So down to business, and I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself or barking up the wrong tree, but hear me out on this one. @Joe-Tech was generous enough to port his regular S4 Google Play Edition (Pure Nexus) 4.4.4 Rom over to our phone. Could we repeat that for this OC6 build, using say, this rom as a base (or another if that turns out to be incompatible for whatever reason)? I doubt I have the expertise to pull that off but if it would help I'd get to work on another masterpatch and speaker phone fix

I have an LP 5.0.1 base, ported using that ROM that you mentioned, but we all know safestrap is not compatible yet with 5.x and FlashFire can only flash TW base rom from my experience, and it still on beta phase, so let just cross fingers, i know something coming soon

You're the man. Thanks for this info. I'm going to make a masterpatch, hopefully it'll be needed soon. Obviously I'll be happy to test anything if and whenever something like this does happen. If I can do anything at all to help that along just let me know. I was not aware FF could only flash TW base roms, shoot

Only way im thinking to boot the new LP ROM, is to use @muniz_ri method so we can upgrade and keep root. So now we going to be on the OC6 kernel and baseband, since the gpe can boot without flashing the kernel. Then we can flash the GPE 5.x ROM, either with safestrap or FlashFire, and we can also use Odin to flash the stock kernel/partitions. But too bad none of them worked for me after the upgrade, FF will sit there for ever try to get root permission.

Nope I even tried root checker, the su app is there on the app drawer, i was able to updated from the play store, but still wasn't working though.

Just had a thought, probably nothing. When doing the kitkat to lollipop update to keep root with flashfire, would it help anything to convert flashfire to a system app before doing the update? Sorry if this is a stupid question

I don't think it will make any difference.

@muniz_ri: This is great, thanks for all your work on this. As I understand it, this method will update you to OC6 with root if the original firmware was already rooted. So my question is then, if a user has already taken the OC6 update and would like to root afterwards is it currently impossible? Is the only way to root OC6 to downgrade back to NE3, root, and then follow your instructions to update to OC6 with root?
I'm guessing a root vulnerability hasn't been found for the Samsung 5.0 firmware yet, but I just wanted to check.
Also, I posted this in the other thread, but has anybody actually downgraded from OC6 to NE3 successfully? I don't want to give people wrong information.

Place what where? I used WinRAR to extract the file? What is the OC6 stock partition?

Extract the tar from the rar. Leave the zip as is. Copy the tar and the zip to your phone's internal memory or external SD card, somewhere it'll be easy for you to find

Correct, you will need to go back to NE3 then use towelroot before starting this process. And yes, the aboot qfuse counter determines whether or not you can downgrade. I checked it and it does allow for downgrading.

If all of the above is beyond your level of understanding I strongly suggest you reconsider attempting to modify your phone.

Great thanks, one more question: Would it be possible to use something similar to W0lfdroids method of rooting? So on stock OC6, flash the NE3 kernel (since downgrading is possible), root with Towelroot, the flash back to the OC6 kernel. Just thinking about it I'm guessing it wouldn't work because you wouldn't be able to boot 5.0 with a 4.4.2 kernel, but I figured I'd ask.

Any chance I can implore you to try it since there will inevitably be a bunch of people already on the OC6 firmware asking how to root it and will get pissed when they find they have to wipe their phone? Or maybe you could just provide the stock OC6 kernel and I can convince @thisisapoorusernamechoice to give it a shot?

For what it's worth, just went through the process in post 1. Everything went fine, but after the Galaxy S4 boot screen, it goes black and stays. I can boot to download mode and stock recovery, so it's not a major issue, and likely something I did. I'll mess with it a bit more then Odin back to stock and start over.

A couple questions:
What firmware were you coming from?
How long did you wait?
Did you have Xposed enabled?

[Q] Att Note 3 on Lollipop

I have a note 3, that I'd like to root and install a non Att OS.. it's no longer a covered phone..and I don't care about tripping knox.. Searching for Root and Note 3 and ATT find all kind of way to root and install safestrap.. is that the only way to custom rom this phone?

What are you running right now Kitkat, Lollipop? If you are on N900AUCUCNC2, you can use Towel root https://towelroot.com/ or Kingo root http://www.kingoapp.com/ The only way to install custom rom is to have Safestrap install as the bootloader is locked.

You can't root OC1, but you can use Odin to downgrade to NC2 and root it. Odin v.3.10.6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613. Once you Odin back you can use Towel root or Kingo root (links are posted above your post). Then install Supersu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en and run it, install Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en open and install it, then Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7216. (You should make a backup once Safestrap is installed before you flash any Roms). Once you're done you can pick a Rom for your Note 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development Now you ever use Odin? http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/ (The site only shows flashing the All-In-One file so you know). Brilliant! I'm rooted on Lollipop, and loving my Note 3 all over again. Thanks for the easy-to-follow instructions, that made it a breeze!

To shorten the process, I downloaded Chainfires app called FlashFire, Then Downloaded full OC1 odin tar and Full N2 Odin tar. I flashed Note 3 back to N2 with pc odin, I then transferred OC1 to my sd card installed Flashfire and used flash Fire to do a complete flash to OC1 while choosing to inject everroot. Saved tons of time and in my mind a lot cleaner. I also have ROM PRO TOOL BOX and Chainfires CF-Bench after installing all the apps I wanted and setting up my personal settings on the phone all together, I installed BusyBox Pro and did a smart install, then rebooted and performed a benchmark. Then opened Rom Pro Tool box and went to cpu and then the benchmark it recognized the benchmark from chainfires cf-bench app so I choose it and also clicked apply at boot. Rebooted and this Note is fast as light and reliable. FlashFire will make back ups for you if your worried about recovery and always a good Idea to have Helium and or Titanium to make a nandriod and a completed setup back up to store on your pc and cloud just in case. :fingers-crossed:

Does anyone know if Rooting directly from OC1 without a wipe is being worked on? :fingers-crossed: or should I just stop whining and just do one of the above options? :victory:

Followed post 4 instructions, but after Odin (which said PASS!), phone is now stuck on white boot screen with AT&T logo. Checked md5, everything checks out. What do you think went wrong?

What was you running before, Lollipop? If you was, you need to do all four files not the All-In-One to change your boot loader back to NC2.

I have a s5active and just love the hell out of it. I'm still kinda green with the rooting but have done several successful roots, but development is way out of my wheelhouse. Unfortunately I haven't found a developer that had been working on the active. I'm still looking though. Thanks for doing the outstanding organization you did for the note 3. I'm going to be doing it as soon as the laptop comes back from the shop. My wife will like fire cat I think. I just found the thread I needed for my active lol only one rim but better than nothing.

Hey all, I've been away since the Skyrocket days. For ODIN, what state does the phone need to be in. I have USB debugging Enabled, but the ODIN says Failed. I downloaded all 4 files. Nevermind, had to put the phone in download mode.

i used KingoRoot to "root" it said it was sucessful, but when i try SuperSU it said "SuperSu Binary needs to be updated. Continue"? when i click continue, i click on normal and it says "Installing, please wait" then it returns failed.. SuperSu binary is not updating what is the fix for this?

I would install Root Checker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en to see if your root is properly installed. You might have to use KingoRoot again. I usually stick with Towelroot.

i tried superuser and that said it might not have installed properly. I tried flashing the ODIN files again and now it says failed. I think i've bricked my phone and now im really frustrated

ok i have just gotten mad and constantly click on the start button in ODIN until it seemed to have worked. Well.. glad to say, my phone is up and running with 4.4.2 , rooted with TowelRoot, Installed SuperSu and installed BusyBox... now to find a cool rom to run it on. Thanks for all the help guys.

[Q] Need help with backup, rooting and kernel.

Hey guys, I have a 64GB stock T-Mobile Galaxy S6 that I have (somewhat) debloated and so far the battery is okay.
I've heard promising reviews about XtreStoLite G920T Pure Edition ROM.
First, I want to make a backup of the STOCK ROM I currently have, but IIRC, you cannot back it up unless you root first?
I was looking into PingPongRoot so I could go back to stock just in case anything would happen but I need to know how to back it up first.
Second, I want to install the ROM and I'm pretty sure I'm correct. Do I need Odin if I use PingPongRoot?
Third, I want to install Ktoonzes kernel as well but I don't know anything about that.
So, pretty much I need help with:
1. Backup current stock ROM before rooting
2. Root with PingPong
3. Install XtreStoLite
4. Install Ktoonzes
Also, if there is anything else I should be cautious of let me know. Thanks guys!

While all of this info is easily accessible, in the spirit of giving... Here you go.
To backup, you need root.
Install SuperSu from play store, open SuperSu at least one time, then download Ping Pong Root APK and run it. It may take two tries, that's normal.
Then, to back up, either install TWRP with Flashify (downloadable from Play Store) or via Odin (Either method will trip Knox in bootloader and void Samsung warranty, will not harm phone in any way) and back up
To install ROM, Flash in TWRP recovery (if you installed TWRP in last step Knox is already tripped)
Then, use TWRP to flash Ktoonzes kernel (I recommend letting ROM boot at least once fully then going back to recovery to flash kernel)

Yes, only if you don't flash a kernel with the new ROM. You have to edit the zip and remove the boot.IMG , then edit the updater script to remove the command to wipe and flash boot.img. if this sounds too difficult to you don't try it

So how do you flash a custom ROM without a custom recovery? Recovery trips Knox...
I'm gonna need to look into this one. Been a while since I did anything with a Samsung device.

I don't think chain fire has been to open about how flashfire works (not a problem his choice). So if you want a good idea how it works look into safestrap, I'm sure it's close other than the fact safestrap doesn't need a app in a working system.

Needs a zip without the kernel... I remember seeing a ROM that mentioned not having a kernel, I guess for this reason.
I don't think any of the t-mobile ROMs come setup like that though. So I would need to go through the trouble of repackaging the ROMs myself.
May not bother and just trip the counter and flash normal. Custom kernels are often the way to go for battery life and performance.

Oh I thought you meant how flashfire boots into its recovery mode without tripping knox, yeah custom kernels and recoveries will trip knox but if the demand is high enough there are ways to use custom kernels without flashing them and someone is bound to bring it to the s6, but I'm sure the demand has to be high enough.

Oh I thought you meant how flashfire boots into its recovery mode without tripping knox, yeah custom kernels and recoveries will trip knox but if the demand is high enough there are ways to use custom kernels without flashing them and someone is bound to bring it to the s6, but I'm sure the demand has to be high enough.

Its an interesting alternative to full root flashing. Preserving the warranty is good for some people.
Ever since I did pingpong root, I have been having odd issues with pandora bluetooth streaming to my car. Hopeing a custom ROM will solve this.

1. Can I root?
2. If I root, is my phone still going to work? Or will it become the latest victim of my Beowolf.

Odin twrp then install unikernel inside twrp. Will trip Knox so Samsung pay won't work anymore.

Ok thanks. Not concerned with Sam pay. Citibank and Wells aren't supported.

I finally found a routine and the right files needed to successfully acquire root, twrp, and custom ROM. Although, the only custom ROM Iv'e been able to boot and setup with all T-Mobile services intact and even the finger print security feature working, is the "OZOP_EDGE_v11_DOJ7.zip, thanks to stangdriver44".
Just remember you should back up the EFS and backup the phone using Samsung smart switch. If you need help, pm me. Id lay out the exact steps I took to get root originally and what it took to get out of a bricked phone, and finally to root and install a custom ROM.
I will type up what I did later today or tomorrow and post it in case anyone does the same thing to gets bootloops and bricks.
I have to attend to other chores now before I go back to work tomorrow, since I spent every evening for the last week and all day and night yesterday, trying to bring this phone out of brick.

You'd have to setup Cygwin software to make the zip an 'Odin flashable .tar.md5 type file', which I have not had time to play with, in order to flash supersu zip files onto the samsung phones.
I am working on a worksheet right now explaining what I had to do to install 5.1.1 firmware and root the phone. I am still looking back to remember exactly how I unlocked the bootloader. I did have to use an android terminal to map out the twrp recovery manual on the phone itself. I do know it would wise for anyone interested in this to backup the EFS before anything. I had to download a specific windows DOS software that does it in a couple seconds and stores it on your computer. It works for a number of other phones as well. Also need to download the newest Odin 3.10.7 software in order to work with 5.1.1 firmware without any problems. Also need to do a backup of whole phone with samsung smart switch "takes place of Kies software now". When I get home tonight I will get names and locations of everything and inform everyone. If you download the wrong DOJ7 software or firmware you'll mess up your device. It took me a week to find the right software downloads related to 5.1.1 in order to make everything work right. And I did everything within 15 minutes. Once I figured out the routine.
Once you update to 5.1.1 I know of no way to downgrade.
I do recommend going over to serio22's post -[Firmware][Bootloader & Modems][Odin] - G920T - DOJ7-
And download DOJ7 BL and DOJ7 modem and G920TUVU3DOJ7 (firmware). Download Chainfire's latest beta super su.

You can just flash unikernel to get root.
Possibly any of the other kernels too

Yes you can root .. by flashing unikernel .. and phone will still be working ...

Tried flashing Uni through Odin with no luck. I get this in Odin.
Get PIT for mapping.
Write operation failed.
Any idea's?

I recommend you root with the latest Supersu beta v2.62-3 zip. It will patch the stock kernel which was designed for your specific build unlike the unikernel. Just flash via twrp.

[Q] Anyway to root the new G920TUVU4EPF1 Build?

Running stock 6.0.1 on my G920T, updated OTA. I've tried flashing TWRP, but ends up stuck at the Samsung Logo...
The new firmware prevents downgrading too, so I can't really downgrade without doing some changes...
If I can't root, are there any root kernels/custom roms available? (That support the EPF1 update)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Google cf auto root and go to their website and then find the right file for the s6 (should be zerofltemo or something like that). Download the latest version of odin if you don't already have it. Click the ap button once odin is open and select the cf auto root file you downloaded. Put your phone into download mode and connect it to your computer and hit start in odin. If everything goes well it will install root then you can flash twrp via odin also. There's a thread with more detailed instructions on here if you search for it

I've already looked through CF's auto root, there isn't one (fully) compatible with build #G920TUVU4EPF1. I've tried using an eariler build (MMB29K.G920TUVU3EPD1 of auto root), which softbricked my phone, it's fine now but I'm not risking that again. Thanks for the help anyway!

You're right there isn't one for our specific build but that one will work because it's the one I used. You have to enable your developer options and turn on oem unlock and it won't soft brick. Sorry forgot to mention that part lol
