Device does not wake on charge - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just installed the lp-fire-nexus-rom-ford-20161124 ROM on my 7" Kindle Fire 2015 and everything looks good so far.
However, when I plug it in the screen does not wake like my other non-rooted stock kindle fires, and cant figure out how to get it to.
I will be mounting it in my car, so would like it to wake when it detects its charging
Any ideas?
cheers.

Not sure how to pull this off in Nexus. CM has a toggle in system settings to control screen behavior when plugging/unplugging.
Didn't see an option in GravityBox either.

Thanks Davey. Might have to bite the bullet and start from scratch with CM then ?

Just tested on latest CM 12.1 build - works fine. No reboot required.
If your preference remains Nexus (nice ROM!) might try "Xposed Additions" module. It doesn't appear to have the best ratings and has not been updated in awhile but contains the functionality you seek. That said, no guarantee it will work with Nexus. I have no personal experience with the module or developer. You'll also need learn about and flash Xposed framework.

[Q] Does CM10.1 (JB4.2.2) for Bionic have Dock Mode?

I just recently went from CM10 to CM10.1 (JB 4.2.2) on my Bionic and love it but noticed that when I insert it into the standard dock it doesn't sense it and go into a "Dock Mode". I am not sure if it's just my phone or not (I don't think so, it worked with CM10) and I am too new to post in the developers forum to let them know about it and it is still under development. Does anyone have any input how to get this to work and/or if you have access to post in the appropriate forum can you let them know about this?
I believe yes. if you go Setting>Display>Daydream you can get a clock or other options which can be triggered by the docks.

I found that and adjusted it and it still isn't triggered when docked. I booted back into stock ICS and CM10 (JB 4.1) and it seems to work then so I know it's not my phone. Are there any other settings to check?
I really love CM10.1 and really appreciate the work they do and know that it is still a work in progress but would like to submit it a bug report about it just so the dev's know. I would let them know myself but I can't post in that thread because I am a "noob" to this forum even though I have been using custom ROM's for a couple of years. Can someone help me out?

I've been struggling with this too. It doesn't seem to work in either the latest Kexec versions of CM10.1 or AOKP. I suspect it has to do with something still needing to be merged into the kernel. I've tried restoring the different dock component apks from ICS, but that doesnt' help either. I sent a tweet to Hashcode yesterday asking if he knows how to get it working, but he hasn't responded yet. I'll let you know when he does.
I would not worry too much about it. CM10.1 is still in the nightly phase so a lot of stuff will not work, and they know this. I am sure it will be working once we hit RC.
I'm pretty sure that Daydream is set up to trigger with the screen timeout. Myself, I have mine set to 2 minutes, and once I'm docked, it seems to be about 2 minutes later that Daydream turns itself on.

Ya, for the life of me I can't get anything to happen when I dock it. Hopefully they get this fixed on an upcoming nightly. I'd even donate to get this one done because I use it for an alarm clock everyday. The thing I am doing in the mean time is to set the daydream "when to daydream" setting to "while charging" and then manually turn on the app "Dock Clock" when hitting the hay. It's a good work around but was a lot easier when it just triggered when docked. Thanks again to the dev's! They rock!! :good:
This is one the main issues I have with cm10.1. While the daydream setting works OK for my bedside dock, there is no way to differentiate between that dock and my car dock. So I can't launch a custom car launcher when in my car.

Have you heard back from Hashcode yet about the dock thing? I keep flashing nightly's hoping it'll be working but it's still a no-go. Today's nightly looks like it's gonna have a lot of changes/additions so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
FYI - I got a message back from Hashcode on twitter and he said "No dock features yet" :cyclops:
Any idea how the LapDock will respond? That's the sole reason i have stayed stock. I bought this dumb phone for LapDock...

Same, that's why I haven't installed one of the custom ROMs on mine, because I love the lapdock functionality, which requires HDMI to be working. As far as I know, none of the non-Blur ROMs have working HDMI.
I love this ROM but I sure wish the dock stuff worked. I use my phone as an alarm clock on the dock and I switched over to liquidsmooth jellybean
yesterday to see if it's dock stuff worked (it doesn't). It was awesome but (even though the dock stuff doesn't work) until I got an FC for the clock when my alarm went off this morning so I am back.
On a separate note I installed yesterdays nightly and rebooted and my wifi was broken and i couldn't even turn it on so i reverted to the fixed version of the 3/27 nightly and was back in business. Hoping they get the dock up and going soon. :fingers-crossed:

My bad - operator error. I wiped and reflashed 3/27 the 4/4 and updated again and everything is peachy keen again.
So this may be a silly question, but is there any "light at the end of the tunnel" for Car dock mode in any of these JB ROMS?
We all thought that Root was unobtainable on the JB but that was proven wrong. Here's hoping that Car Dock mode is in the near future as its the one thing on my phone that i use consistently every day driving to and from work.

I was able to get the car dock mode to launch using the app below and the new Blurry ROM. No luck on CM10.1.

Though I'm confused... is there something more "to" webtop/lapdock since the ICS version? AFAIK it's just leveraging the HDMI output for a higher resolution screen and attaching a USB keyboard/mouse. It hasn't been something "Special" since Gingerbread when it was Ubuntu based, right?

That confused me as well. I know there are some things like volume control that might not work (but I'm not sure they work on the stock JB ROM anyway) but people have modded all sorts of things to work with the lapdock (other phones, Raspberry Pi) by simply treating it as an HDMI display and a keybord/mouse. If a mod ROM even had that level of functionality I'd be happy with it, and I certainly don't expect a return of the original Ubuntu based webtop mode.
On a similar note, has anyone tried a mod while using the HD dock? That is supposed to do something similar, except I believe it comes with a remote control.

[Q] New N6 adopter, some customization questions

I'm on Verizon, so I just got my Nexus 6 last week, and I've still been trying to get it looking and feeling like I want it to. I already unlocked and rooted it. I'm working on getting Light Flow set up, but I've been having no luck at all. I'm dealing with the finicky double-tap to wake. I know there's apps to enable the stock battery percentage, and I have done so, but what's the best way to change how the status bar looks? Is there even a way, besides a new ROM? I know Xposed isn't available/stable for 5.1 yet. The percentage is so hard to read like this, it's making me miss my Note.
The battery seems a little iffy so far, so I've been keeping an eye on it. Wakelock Detector was is telling me "Proximity Sensor Manager" has been running almost constantly. Not sure what that is exactly. Any advice or help with these or other issues from those who have had it for a long time? I'd love the help. Thanks!
I also just spent 3 or 4 hours in the car with my headset on, and the battery drained by Bluetooth says 37%. Is that normal?? Seems like an awful lot, especially considering I only made one call.
Google play services is the battery killer for me, often using more than the display does.
As for mods on stock 5.1 ROM, I would recommend maybe Franco kernel (love the color calibration and vibration intensity adjustment) and the MoDaCo modpack for some nice customizations like percentage battery and center clock just to name a few.
Sent from my Nexus 6
Is there a reason for the service to be using that much? That's kind of annoying. :-|
I've flashed ROMs before, but I'm fairly noob-ish when it comes to the rest. I'm on stock 5.1, but just unlocked and rooted, so what would I need to do to flash a kernel or a modpack? What are the pros/cons of doing so? The modpack sounds like it has a good chunk of what I'm looking for. Thanks for your response!
Well, with Franco kernel you just install his app and it will install it directly from within the app itself . . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel.free
That is the free version of his app kernel app. It basically just does that. For all the extras his kernel does, you need to buy his paid app I believe. I am sure there are other ways to access them, but his app is worth the few bucks it costs . . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
As for the mod pack, you would start with installing a custom recovery. If you don't know how to do that, easiest way is download the app flashify, which will download and install twrp recovery quite easily.
The mod pack is even easier, download the 5.1 version from here . . http://www.modaco.com/page/news/_/android/mcr-modpack-for-the-nexus-5-6-and-9-r11-r1437 . . and flash in recovery. Would highly recommend creating a twrp nandroid backup before proceeding at all so you can easily fever everything you will be doing.

Awesome! Thanks for the links. For the modpack...it says near the bottom "Ensure your device is running STOCK LRX22C - use on any other ROM version will make bad things happen!". My Nexus 6 is LMY47E. That doesn't even seem close. Is it compatible with all, or only a few devices, or certain ROMs? Again, thanks for the help.
The mod pack is for stock or stock based roms. And if you download the 5.1 version you will be fine. What they are saying about the 22C build is for 5.0.1 stock, the v11 for 5.1 is what you want. I myself am on the 47E build and it works perfect.

Its probably finicky for you because Nexus 6 **DOES NOT HAVE** double-tap to wake. It has SHAKE to wake.
Which deactivates under certain conditions, like it woke from being shaken within a few seconds of this attempt without being fully brought to wake (by touching the screen). Or because the proximity sensor registers a "near" event (i.e., it thinks its in your pocket).

Why do you need to know that precisely how many "percent" the battery is at? Even if you think you know the "actual percent", you realize that it is only accurate to within about 15%? Its a rough guess no matter how you look at it. If the little battery icon is right up to the top, its full. If its close to the bottom and red, its time to charge. If its somewhere in between, its still ok.

Battery on this device is excellent. Low/mid use can run for THREE DAYS on a charge.

OK, for light flow to work you need the paid version. Once you have that go to settings/Device Settings and root, and check direct mode, root mode and run every command as root (you'll want to disable notifactions in supersu for this app or you'll get constant pop ups saying lie flow has been granted permissions)
Now go to notifications settings and, for each app you want the notification light, got to settings, the light tab and enable the light, scroll down and enable the mixer, check app controlled flash, select the color mix you want and for each color set the state to solid and whatever brightness level.
That should get your light working. You might want to check the "exclude from sleep mode" under each app as well.
The light works just the flash rate is somewhat random.

I am definitely interested, but I sadly burned myself out on ROMs during my Galaxy Nexus days. Having to constantly redo settings and update nightlies and all that stuff got draining after a while. I'm really looking to just modify stock in whatever small ways I'm able to, which as of tonight has been awesome. More battery life would be helpful though. :-/

Does anyone have any suggestions for messing with the vibration settings? The vibration on my phone is so violently loud that I sometimes would prefer the notification noise over it. Not to mention that I normally love haptic feedback when I type, but on the N6 it just sounds ludicrous, like I'm literally typing on a mechanical keyboard. Will any of the kernels let me adjust intensity? I heard somewhere that Franco kernel does, but it was never confirmed. The way my Galaxy Tab S feels when I type is phenomenal...I wish I could figure out what it's set to and have everything set that way.

Yeah, I ended up getting it and trying it, and it's much better now, but not as smooth as I had hoped. I just set up my dad's S6 today and the tactile feel of the haptic on that thing is just...mmmmm. It seems like the motor they put in the N6 is just grossly overpowered, it even sounds weird.

Can I easily turn the Fire 7 into Calender use only device

I was given an 8gb Fire 7 5th gen I guess from the Black Fridays deals for xmas. What I would like to do is run it mostly as a digital calender, so keep it plugged in, running and having it display the calender most of the time only. Is this something I could do with it, easily?
Ideally I'd like to be able to touch the screen to wake it up, or have the calender events running on a screen saver somehow. I haven't even taken it out the box yet, but would pay to remove ads on the lock screen if I can get something set up so it can work that way for me.
Essentially I rely heavily on calenders over all my devices, as well as reminders, so it has to be linked with a google account.

This device could be configured to perform such a role but it would take some time to set-up (including a few 'hacks') and come with several caveats. Touch wake is not an option on this device (lacks hardware support) so the display would need to be on 7x24. There's also no ambient light sensor which could be an issue depending on your environment. Reliable Google integration requires rooting and a custom ROM...more work. Really depends how much of a project you want to make of it and the level of personal satisfaction after the last 'T' is crossed.

Thank you for replying. I had a think about it yesterday, and just having a read around, I decided to root it to stop OTA updates as I was on 5.0.1 I think, so I did that, then the guide went on to say about flashing a rom, so I figured why not and did that too :$
After a few problems, first being that I couldn't get the flashfire to work from the rootjunky site, I found the one included with the super tool and installed that through the computer. Flashing appeared to be fine, and it loaded into SlimLP fine. But it seems google play etc didn't get installed. After a lot of head scratching and trying to install apk's etc, I figured to reflash it and see what happened. This was a little problematic as now I couldn't connect via usb to do flashfire, so I eventually copied it over via sd card, and installed the apk that way, just reflashed the OS again and a google one, and this time play is there, working.
So I now have a fire running SlimLP saying its model number: KFFOWI, Android 5.1.1. And it's lovely. I have another fire 7 that I do use as a tablet now, and I wish I could do the same to that one, cept it OTA updated on it to fire os 5.3.2.1, and I guess I can't from reading around. It's stuttery compared to the newly flashed one. Oh well. I guess now I need to investigate calender apps, or lock screen widgets to give me what I want.
Thank you for reply, I read it, then though crikey that does sound complicated, however once I looked at locking down the OTA updates to at least allow me to do it later If I wanted, it kind just followed on.

Great! A couple footnotes:
- being one of the lucky few with a 5.0.1 bootloader you can boot a custom/full recovery like TWRP as a alternative to FlashFire (from fastboot ready: 'fastboot boot <image_name>')
- the build of SlimLP for this device has not seen much love since originally posted; you may want to consider a ROM that sees more frequent updates
Post back if you need/want further info on either topic.

Can I do a bootloader after using flashfire? Also I considered a CM rom, vaguely recall using one for an Orange san fran years ago, but wasn't sure on latest, or best and it seems that I can't connect things like supertool through usb now, so could I do a CM rom on top of what I have already using flashfire, or would I need to do something else? I seem to remember having to do an XP machine to do the San Francisco phone way back as it wouldn't connect any other way

The CM 12.1 adaptation for this device is excellent; no worries there. I strongly recommend using (booting) TWRP for all future ROM updates. FlashFire is a great tool for those that do not have another option. You do! FlashFire will also work if you can not establish a USB connection.
If you opt to switch ROMs be sure to wipe the system and data (aka app/user) partitions before flashing the new image.
I re-did it all and now have CM 12.1 on it, however I've stalled beyond this as it's a far nicer tablet to use over my non-fiddled with Fire 7. So I'm now using the new one as my main tablet, and will stick the other one, wifi off, in the drawer and sit and wait to see if a roll back is available, or new method to root and flash comes along.

What is the best rom/kernel for my Soho-PVT-Prod-07?

Hi!
I just installed twrp/unlock on my fire tablet.
Then i tried the nexus rom but it really didn´t work well. No camera app installed, weird overall and then i noticed it doesnt have video playback.
I want to use the tablet mainly to consume amazon and from my nas.
Is there a rom that works 100%? I read about cm11 being pretty good, but it is all old stuff and cm is dead so maybe there is better things right now?
Then i read about oc kernel, i want to do that and get fast charging too. Is there one that has it both?
I can see myself staying with the stock fireOS if there is nothing else working 100%(cast screen, amazon video...), i guess getting rid of the lockscreen with ads isnt that hard?
I am open for any tweaking, i got my fastboot cable back so i can do risky stuff np, it´s a toy device afterall

Fire Tablet Solution to Combat the Lag Scheduled Reboot

I purchased some some 7th gen fire tabs (x2 7" and x2 8") I use these as wall mounted controllers for home automation. I foolishly made my purchase off the back of a quick google for Fire tab root and making the assumption its possible after scanning the results. At this point I wasn't even sure id need to root the device.
Around the time of my purchase it looks like Amazon released an update which prevents rooting and I was 'lucky' enough to have devices with the newer firmware version. I use fullykioskbrowser on these and so far with the help of xda and other parts of the web I have disabled the lock screen giving me the ability to automate the screen turning on and off. Awesome!
My one final problem is these tablet run to almost a complete standstill! This makes them unusable until I manually take apart their beautiful wall mount and turn them off and back on again. I would like to schedule a reboot of the device enabling it to be snappy all the time.
Does anybody know how I can achieve this? Lots of the apps available including fullykioskbrowser require root. Which I obviously cannot do! (Yet? Is anybody close, working on or admitted defeat on this yet?) The apps that don't need root seem to imitate screen taps to navigate to a reboot using software but I don't think amazon have this.
Is there anything I can do to schedule the reboot of my fire tablets? Or a next best thing?
