For the people that have requested and successfully received their unlock code, would you mind sharing the reasons you submitted to xiaomi?
I just said it had vendor rom installed, for a different xiaomi phone, unlock came the next day, the hardest thing is getting your name to work first name only,
I received approval in three days
I told them that I was a Dev and wanted to be able to test my apps on the Mi Mix

I was also completely honest and said since I was from Scotland I wanted to be able to get rid of the Chinese crap and get a different ROM.
Got a text two days later and my request was accepted.
along these lines - do i need to be using the phone to get the unlock request?
i can't use this phone as my daily without root, so i have my sim in my old phone until i get unlock. any idea?

No, you don't. I'm not getting mine for at least another week but my unlock request was accepted last week. I've logged on to the unlock application to make sure it works and it works completely fine, now all I have to do is get the phone.
I just put 'I want to root the phone'.

I was granted the unlock privilege within a few minutes. It could mean that they don't screen the responses as clearly now or that I just managed to give a reason they agreed with. A fellow Lineage team member got his unlock similarly quick too.
I was the luckiest. My phone was bought brand new sealed, virgin, never been used. I was the first to break the seal.
Point is, when checking the menu, it appears my bootloader was already unlocked and ready to go!
All I had to do was install the drivers and software on my pc and simply flash TWRM recovery followed by any custom rom of my choice...
Was never any need for me to request any bootloader unlock.

That's because the seller opened the box to unlock it and flash the global rom most likely. Most of them do that if you read the seller's description in detail.

The phone was factory sealed in the box when it arrived, however, the ad clearly mentioned:
''Official Global ROM Support OTA Updates''
So it appears you were right. Clever how it was resealed in the box...

I had kept my bootloader unlocked for flashing new ROMs but unfortunately i lost it on train and now i can understand that the theif can easily flash a new rom and so i can never retrive my device as far as i understood that i have to keep my bootloader locked but this means that i have to unlock and relock my bootloader each time i want to flash a new rom so this is very problematic for losing internal data too every time.
Also i don't have a job else i would have brought a new OP3T. I hope that in future OP can introduce some hardwire based tracking for lost devices , what do you people suggest?

I suggest that if the thief is able to flash a new ROM, he will be perfectly able to open the bootloader. So I recommend that you do not worry about having the bootloader open.
As for the tracking system, I think Google has already developed certain functions aimed at this use. When I have time I will investigate about this topic and update this post.
Please, be awere.

Try Google device manager. Thats the tracking tool you searching for. ?
not a big deal to reset FRP. Samsung and LG FRP takes only few minutes to be removed with z3x box. i think even stock rom have some bugs to bypass FRP. Best way is not to loose your phone.
It won't help you now, but take a screenshot of your imei, then back it up to your photos. If your phone is lost or stolen report it and depending on what country you live in, it will be black listed. Then it won't work on any carrier, no matter which rom is flashed.

Since I had kept my bootloader unlocked I believe that can easily flash a new rom so Android device manager won't be useful at all

I've searched the fprum and googled every term I could think of. I posted a thread on the complaints/advice forum, with one response that was a further inquiry. Posted thread here: http://en.miui.com/thread-443657-1-1.html
Let me start by saying I had a max I requested/granted an unlock authorization, but I sold the max and never unlocked.
As you can see from the link, when I click the unlock request page (http://en.miui.com/unlock/) I am taken to the unlock page, as if I already received the unlock authorization for my Mix. I have not been able to apply, because of this, so there cannot be an authorization.
I've tried logging out of my MIUI account on both phone and PC. I've tried two other PC's (mine and wife's) with same results. I can't find anything close to this in my searches or on the complain/advice forum.
Last thing I could try is responding to the text from 5-6 months ago approving the unlock on the Max.
Anyne have a suggestion? I'd love to unlock the potential on my favorite device.
Thanks
If you have a Gmail Adress , try to use @googlemail.com instead of @gmail.com as your username. That was the key to success in my Case. I did not get a txt message
Does your phone have the global (multi language) rom installed when you received it or the Chinese one?.
Check it. Cuz if it has the global rom, then it is unlocked. I went thought the whole process to find out at the end that my phone was unlocked to begin with.
If you know how to do fastboot, you can check via "fastboot oem device-info"

It came with the Chinese stable ROM (8.0.11.0). I waited a few weeks after receiving before going for the unlock.
By global ROM, do you mean the Chinese developer ROM? The only other global ROM, I know of is the rooted one, but I need the unlock approval first.

As other members have noted the unlock appears to be per account, not per phone. I think it was @underlines that shared this concept. He was granted unlock four years ago on another phone and has never applied again.
I suggest you just go ahead and unlock your Mix.
Remember to activate Developers Options, remember to enter your credentials in the MIUNlock area in Developers settings.
And if you are going to install TWRP don't forget to root.

Yes, I can confirm it's per Xiaomi Account. You can then unlock any phone linked to your account.

I do not love Magisk. Can I install TWRP and then SuperSu?
My phone is coming today. I want magisk because I want to use the app to customize.
Yes, that will work, TWRP is key here, magisk or SU is a preference. Grab the full ROM (1.4 GB) make a backup and you are good to go, you'll be able to recover no matter what you do.
Has anybody yet managed to unlock, install TWRP and flash EU rom? My device arrives tomorrow and this is the first thing I want to do.
I tried to unlock but I can't even unlock the phone. Maybe I'm an idiot but it's just too hard to follow this directions and there's also some Chinese involved.

Usually takes about 36 hours hours till you get unlock it through xiaomi.
FWIW,the vast majority of the original Mi MIX handsets that were sold by 3rd party vendors shipped with an unlocked bootloader, same w/the Mi Note2 Global version.
Have any of you checked for an unlocked bootloader?
Good question. Open the dialer, *#*#7378423#*#* should pop up a new system info window, you can verify in it.
...or just try to fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and see what happens.

i just got my mix 2 and had the same problem, use plexvpn and choose the shanghai gateway
Will try that when I get home. I actually got them to give me permission to unlock but now in the unlocking tool it says at 99 percent that the device is not associated with the account or something like that. I try to associate my account in developer options and I get a 10008 error. This is so brutal
That plexvpn did it with Shanghai location! Thank you. Now I will try and unlock and see what the next puzzle brings me!
This is crazy! Just had another problem. Tried to unlock by the unlock tool and now it says "Couldnt unlock. Binding time is too short. Less than 72 hours." UGH!!!! Any help would be appreciated!
You have to wait it out I'm afraid - I don't believe there is any shortcut. I had same issue with Mi 6 and it worked exactly after time had expired. You're nearly there...just a bit more patience!
Hey guys I've run into an issuei bought a Mi 8 off swappa two weeks ago I've been using it and it's been absolutely amazing I love it but a few days ago global miui 9 came out and they phone came bootloader unlocked so I figured I'd flash the firmware and then lock the bootloader I flashed the firmware through Miuitool it worked fine I set it up and then went to lock the bootloader using the same tool I did it and then it started to boot but detected no os anymore so it was bootlooping. I can only access the recovery and fastboot mode I tried wiping didn't work I tried flash the firmware using miflash tool and manually doing the commands also tried getting into edl mode but says it's locked. I tried calling support but they told me they didn't do phone repairs and to call the manufacturer of which I bought it from (swappa) I'm kinda losing hope I'm not sure what to do I've tried so much maybe I'm missing something. If anyone has any suggestions I would love that thanks and here's what my recovery says if that helps

To resurrect the phone, you will need a MI account with authorized access to the EDL. Look at the topic of Redmi 5 as they resurrect bricks. On our forum, several MI 8 & MI 8 SE have already been resurrected in this way.

thanks for the suggestions guys I was thinking before getting super technical opening up my phone and modding a cable to let you guys know of an update. Last night I stayed up a while i found adb flash tool for recovery mode to flash back to official software (http://www.xiaomitool.com/adb) I downloaded both global and both china otas of stable and beta. First i flashed global successfully but forgot that going from china to global requires unlock boot loader to boot up so it did not boot next I tried china stable but the file is an older version and did not flash since it was "downgrading" and last I tried china beta which was newer in theory but did not flash since it was not stable. So i am going to wait for a new china stable rom to come out whenever it does because in theory it will flash correctly and completely fix the phone because its china miui thats newer than the one global version now i can only wonder if it can flash because i will be going from global to china but again I will let you guys know when i attempt it, I understand I will be waiting a while for a stable version those dont come often but in the meantime i can focus on other things and thankfully i have multiple back up phones. thanks guys

Theoretically and my previous experience with Nexus phone, older version of official ROM should be fine as it should get OTA to latest version. So, I think it is worth a try.
At the same time, I'm still patiently waiting for my 1st Mi 8 to arrive at door step.

I agree with you and I used to own a nexus too so I understand what your saying but I tried flashing miui 9 china stable and the error said it was an older version and it was "illegal to downgrade" which is weird so I'll just wait for an updated version which might take a while
Never lock a boatloader with aftermarket global on a China Xiaomi.
I think because of the flashing the bootloader is locked again, maybe try to unlock it with miui unlock.
Maby Xiaomi enable the anti roll back also for the Mi 8 after they did it to the Xiaomi redmi note 5 whyred? Many people have ended up with bricked phones.
Edit
Same problem solution is unlock boatloader
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/mi-8-safetynet-android-pay-and-related-issues.45286/
I faced the same problem with my Mi 8 when I locked the bootloader after installing Global ROM. Simply put your phone in Fastboot, and again Unlock the Bootloader using Xiaomi official Unlock tool. Once bootloader was unlocked, phone booted normally with Global ROM.
Hello, I have blocked bootloader and now I am with the bootloader loop.
I've tried to unlock again from console and from the Xiaomi tool, but it has not been possible. The tool says that the device is not associated. Any solution to this?
I have also tried from Recovery (With MiFlash) to put the stable Chinese version, but having a higher version installed does not leave me.
If I re-flash the same version, it completes it but when restarting, the loop returns.
Any solution?
Hi I have the same problem but now I have a new and BIG new problem...
When I try to unlock the bootloader with my account the software said me that my account is not bounded in this device... cry cry cry!!!
Somebody knows if it is normal and if I will fixed?
BR
The mi unlock tool problems are mainly because of either it's not verified with your account or because before it bricked you forgot to go to development settings and add your phone for unlock which I forgot to so whenever I try to unlock it again it says it isn't verified because I'm a moron and forgot to add my Mi8 to my account in case something like this happened, now I gotta wait for a stable newer miui 9 China version to flash from the adb software
Any news on how to solve the brick?
The perfect solution would be to have access to an account with EDL permissions to re-unlock the bootloader.

This. Is. F****d. Up. Someone needs to say it. They do totally crazy things and we saw too many bricks coming from their unexplained tinkering with ARB and locking. Additionally, their each new flagship gets always one step closer to the prices of better competition. We are getting too screwed and we desperately need a new, reasonably priced and logical brand. Nokia? Wouldn't say so. Essential? US only and seems to close down. OnePlus? Getting costlier. Google? Got really costly. **** happened. Really, sorry for OT, but my empathy and sociological thinking just hurts me when I see this.

Yeah, I thought I was the only one thinking like this.
Companies want as much money as possible. Oneplus is increasing prices not because the components cost more but because they waste money on ads and want more profit. And they pull it off because people will still buy their phones.
Honestly, the Mi 8 is a " flagship killer-killer",it provides almost the same stuff as the OP6 for less money but people either never heard of Xiaomi or are hesitant when it comes to buying their phones ( I don't understand why, though ) .
As for their phones dying, I only saw bricks from people who tried tinkering with deep level stuff without actually knowing what they were playing with.
They don't suddenly die/lose basic functions out of the blue like e.g. Moto phones and I don't know of a single device which beats them at this price along with what you get in a phone.

Just let me tell that you can do the **** even actually knowing what you are playing with. You just need to forget to change the "clean all and lock" option which comes selected by default. And believe me, it's not that difficult at 3 a.m. after some successful flashes.
I think it's not necessary to dive into the hurt, you know.
Cheers

There is a need for that. This is an expensive toy and you shouldn't be playing with it if you are not 100% that you can undo the thing you will do if it goes wrong ( you are free to do it but then at least try to find a solution yourself ) .
After seeing posts which are pretty much like " uwu I made a f*cking boo boo, a weal f*cky wucky, pweese help me guys ;((((( " ( which could've been avoided by following some logic or by actually investigating before flashing stuff ) , it's high time people who are thinking about unlocking the bootloader actually see what they might be getting into if they "touch wrong things in the wrong way".
Bought a new global 6gb/128 Mi9, it arrived yesterday.
Tried to unlock the bootloader and after doing everything the unlock tool wanted, I was presented with the 360 hour wait.
I've looked over the forums and couldn't really find much information about this, except the following:
Do not sign out of the Xiaomi account on the phone.
Do not reset/wipe/update the Mi9 or it resets the counter
I was thinking of leaving it in the closet for 15 days until I can unlock it, since unlocking wipes the phone.
However, I saw in another thread that there appears to be another check about "using the phone for the number of required hours."
What do I have to do to pass this check?
Yes you need to use or turn on your phone for specified hours (i dont know exactly). Waiting 360 hours is not enough if you just binded mi unlock then leave your phone off. Fortunately you can bypass the usage requirement by using older mi flash unlock. I'm using ver 3.xx and still cant unlock after 360h. I said i need to use my phone more and wait another ****in days. Then I use mi flash unlock ver 2.xx and unlocked successfully.
I guess miui tried to make this unlock process become more difficult so they can still making money by ads
Thanks for the information.
I found version 2.3.803.10 here, is that the version you used to avoid the "time used" limitation?

Hello all
I will receive mine those days, from Netherlands (And I leave in France)
SO I assume I will have the EE version, not the global ? How can I make sure of it and download the right xiaomi.eu ROM ?
The goal for me is unlocking the bootloader, wait the 360 hours, unlock and wipe all, flash twrp, and finally flash the latest xiaomi.eu ROM, cause it seems awesome compared to the stock one.

Don't need to, all the best.
Got my phone 6 days ago and need to wait a bit less than 24 hours now. Guess I got lucky.
In my case it said 360 hours, but I checked maybe 6 or 7 days later and it said 1 hour remaining. I was able to unlock the hour after. So maybe just keep an eye on it. I used the phone as my daily driver though.
