Do anyone else feels thst the touch screen is bad? - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I was really ansious to try the mi5, and bought the 64gb version, but when compared to my previosly Xperia Z5, the touch screen sucks, its much more slower and horizontal swips usually are troublesome. Im mot saying that it has touch problems, like unresponsive areas, just it dont fell so smoothly like on other fones. Anyone else noticed that? Do CM 14.1 ROM fix this?

I will upload a vídeo showing what im trying to say

That is true. I also have Z5 before, sold it and bought mi5. Despite the horizontal/vertical nuisance, it's by far better than my z5 imho.
I just tried CM13 last 2 weeks ago, and the swipe sensitivity is non existent. Right now Im back to MIUI EU rom, and swipe issues are back. May be this has something to do with the 2 different types of LCD of MI5 which is JDI or LGD, not sure about this just my honest opinion.

i agree with OP, coming from a nexus 5, this phone is awesome but the touch screen is too much precise. i can see it mainly when swiping notifications (sometimes it gets really frustrating) and when, with hamburger menu opened, i want to scroll up or down: i often end up closing the hamburger menu. don't know if with CM is different
mine is jdi, and i'm on xiaomi.eu 6.10.27

Sorry I dont get it, probably my fault, english its not my native language. Do you meant that on CM mod you didn't had any swipe problems (you wrote swipe sensitivity was none, i understand that as if the cellphone dont reconize any swipe). If so, why do you came back to MIUI?

With CM13 rom, I do not have touch swipe issues. But with MIUI, horizontal swipes, much like dismissing a notification must be a near-perfect horizontal swipe to make it work.

I got used to MIUI, and realized its practical features. only thing I dont like about it is the recent apps view and the touch sensitivity that we previously mentioned. I still like AOSP roms though, but as long Im with a Xiaomi phone, Ill stick to MIUI for now. (who knows, maybe I'll change my mind and get back to CM in the future).

Do custom roms suffer the same touch latency issue as stock rom?

Title explains it all. I'm about to pull the trigger and upgrade to the 3T, and I'm curious if custom roms have the same issue or if devs can edit their rom's source code to improve it.
I mean, I'm upgrading either way, but it'd be really great to not have to wait for OnePlus to push a fix.

It's gotten some press on lots of different sites. It doesn't seem like a major issue, and it certainly isn't a deal breaker. Still, issues like this shouldn't exist on a flagship device.
Had mine for a week now. No visible lag on stock or custom currently on OOS 4.02

Yeah...the issue is very annoying. And it's a shame that OnePlus released the device with this issue.
For those, who are not experiencing this issue: I does not relate to any performance problem or lagging. It's simply the issue that touch events are processed with a slight delay, which is sooo bad while e.g. typing a message. I'm not the fastest typer/writer (but also not the slowest), but I can notice this delay everytime I type a letter.
Find below some references:

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/touch-latency-on-4-0-2.490187/page-2#post-15669240
and a buch more by googling "touch latency oneplus 3"
As far as what I've read: It is not possible to fix the issue using a custom ROM as the TouchScreen-Firmware ist closed source. Unfortunately as this issue is so bad!
I guess we'll be waiting for OnePlus, then.
Fortunately, they've at least acknowledged the issue publicly and promised a fix. From what I can see, they've done better and better with their software with each release, so I'm hopeful that they'll address it sooner rather than later.
I notice this tho and as carl pei said first priority is nougat after that the issue with touch latency hope the gonna fix it after the Chinese new year when they get back to work. It's kinda annoying to have this every day. If some one want to test just enable finger touches in developer option and swipe up down left and right you can see that the point is behind your fingers that is what touch latency delay is.
I really love this phone, but the latency and wifi issues are pretty annoying....
So there is no way a custom ROM + kernel combination can improve that issues? Maybe through tinkering with the touch boost? This issue exists since the release of the 3, so it's disappointing that they haven't fixed it till now... This doesn't help to strengthen my hope for an improvement in that area.
I really don't see the problem here... I've been using my phone for the past 2 months or so and I think touch response is great! Coming from a Oneplus One I don't notice any difference either.

Nexus 5 to Mi5

Due to death of my nexus 5 I chose to switch to Xiaomi Mi5. Good specs, very affordable just like the old nexus 5. Only annoying thing is MIUI.
Could you recommend some close to stock Android rom? Something that would be most nexus/pixel-like
Lineage OS.
for more features Resurrection Remix and many more.
I don't think I want anything but clean, stock Android. No extra features, just stock, stable rom. Thank you very much, I'll check it as soon as I get the device
If you want pure stock Android, you might as well get a Nexus 5X for the same price. It will run stock Android much better than the Mi5.

Here's the ROM you're looking for, pure AOSP with updated CAF sources, with Google Pixel theme and Assistant enabled:
ht tps://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/rom-aosp-caf-t3557568
Works great with this kernel:
ht tps://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/kernel-brand-kernel-cm13-alpha-1-0-t3480663
IMO it runs vastly smoother than LineageOS or anything based on it, but maybe I just haven't tinkered enough with them. Been using it for a few days without any major bugs (just video recording and charging led). I recommend you flash one of the compatible camera firmwares from another thread.

Yeah, but for stock Android and actually 100% working custom ROMs, the 5X would be the way to go, and that alone would out weigh the extra storage space.
You bet a handful of custom ROMs for the Mi5 and you still have issues. Like what was mentioned above, a mostly working ROM with issues with video recording. Also, last time I tried a custom ROM on a Xiaomi device (the Mi4), everything pretty much worked, but camera quality was horrible and that was a deal breaker for me.
Anywho, enjoy your Mi5!

The Galaxy S2 was the last Samsung phone with all the proper sources released, hence it had stable ROMs. We have sort of working semi-recent code for the Mi5, hence there are problems with camera HAL3 and capicitive touch buttons on the lgd varient.
IMO it's very stable otherwise, I don't have crashes or random reboots, speed is equal or comparable to the One Plus 3 (a massive improvement), and battery life, mulitasking and audio is better than on MIUI. Not to mention it's nice having Magisk, Viper4Arise, Google Assistant, Fingerprint wake up, F2FS, Doze, OMS substratum, custom kernels and various other mods working flawlessly for once, and without the device overheating - it doesn't even get noticeably warm.
It makes a better Nexus device than the 5x with it's overheating SD808, even with it's small flaws. I think you made the right choice.

Didn't actually know that, everyday you learn new stuff.
My reasoning buying Mi5 was that probably there are many people who buy this phone because of the price and but hate the looks of MIUI, hence the demand for a solid, clean ROM. I suppose I wasn't wrong after all.

Well to be honest I thought exactly the same, but development is kind of slow. I think most people jumped for the OP3 because they were afraid Xiaomi wouldn't release sources, but Xiaomi did release bootable sources, twice so far. A far cry from OP3, but then again this phone is half the price with almost identical specifications.

To be very frank, I am in your boat for the same reason in search of stock feel since I moved to MI5 from Nexus5.
Lineage-OS is said to be stable but I am not satisfied with it's experience since it requires still more stability and improvements. Camera becomes bit issue once you move away from MIUI. Battery life is only ok for MIUI rom and not in any other ROM. So I would suggest stick to MIUI if you want battery life and better Camera. For stock experience, let the LOS mature to some extent to make you move from MIUI.
Sorry for a little OT guys, but is there any stock'ish rom which utilizes home button the same way MIUI does (tapping to go to home screen instead of actually pressing it)? I've tried several roms and none of them could do that which is very disappointing.

I also went from Nexus 5 to Mi 5 and I must say it wasn't a bad choice but definitely not the best one either. I'd say the biggest problem of MIUI is stability. After almost 9 months of using it, I still face problems with basic features from time to time (gps is whimsical, wifi connection goes off randomly sometimes). MIUI itself is a great OS in my opinion after you manage to get used to the interface (DPI change is a must in my case). What I like the most is the ability to make an FTP server out of your phone to transfer smaller files wirelessly, I rarely use cable thanks to this. I know it can also be achieved using 3rd party apps but having it built into file manager is more convenient.
I'd recommend you to set up MIUI the way you like with some 3rd party launcher (I use nova), at least until we get a fully-functional stock rom with battery life comparable to MIUI.
Actually MIUI is far from terrible. I have the global version 8.1 and it works fine. It's stable, works really fast, no lags whatsoever. Just changed default launcher to Google Now Launcher. There are quite a few handy options like securing applications with a fingerprint. Don't know about battery life though, in the reviews I've seen online people said 4-6 SOT, will have to check that. Quick charge is on board so not such a big problem.
Anyway, got the money I paid, less than 300$ for 64gb seems like a wonderful deal. Very happy with the purchase so far.
About lineage OS and other custom ROMs, can't one just use stock MIUI apps for camera and other things, that could potentially benefit from it?

[$50] Bounty to fix wake lag on Lineage/RR

I'll keep a list in the OP of everyone who agrees to donate to whoever fixes this and a running total. It sounds like this isn't going to be an easy fix, so let's try to reward whoever can solve it. I'll start at $50.
Current total: $50
Edit: Papp's seems to have gotten the lag down to about a second in latest RR test build. Time to pay up! If you appreciate his work and didn't get a chance to offer any money for this fix, donate to @pappschlumpf. Thanks very much for all of your hard work, we really appreciate it!!
Am I the only one this bothers? Takes a solid 3 seconds to wake phone with fingerprint. How is that ok?

I've tried one of the early builds but the delay wasn't that long, I was like: ''Well, okay.'' about it. But tbh seen a lot of complaining posts by you, there aren't many people who complain about it like you do. So i guess the bounty list will be having just a single digit in my opinion lol. But i understand your frustration though, hopefully it gets sorted out. Have a good day.

Phone is still relatively new to me, so I'm still in the "show off the pretty phone" phase. When people try to turn on that big beautiful display, it's embarrassingly slow. Maybe not a big deal if you came from a much slower, older phone, but for those of us who came from phones like the Oneplus 3, Moto Z Play, Nexus 6P, etc, it's very noticeable. I really hate MIUI, though, so I'm sticking with it. Hopefully a dev finds a fix, but sounds like Papps have given up.

My previous device was an S6e+ which has no instant unlock feature by touching. Comparing to it; unlocking is faster and better for me, yet; it's quite good comparing to others as I've seen.
I dont generally show or give my phone to people, if I have to; I would just give or show it when unlocked lol. Anyway. Miui was my secondary reason to buy a Mi device, 6.4 inch screen was primary. I really like lovely mi interface that's why I have used miui roms on my both previous devices too. Would like to have a multi-window of Los though. Missing that freak a lot but sigh.

Yeah split screen and Android pay are the biggest pluses for aosp over miui 8. Sounds like the upcoming miui 9 will fix this, though.
And to be fair miui unlocks MUCH faster than lineage/RR/AICP
you're the only person i've seen vocal about this as if it was actually 3 seconds for everyone there would be tons of posts about it.
i can tell no difference between an MIUI rom and what i currently get with Resurrection Remix. it may be slightly slower but it turns on near instantly for me.
Well, I've been complaining about it in the DragonXia LOS kernel thread and nothing came of it. So no, he's not the only one that this bothers. Especially when a Redmi Note 3 unlocks way faster.

Are you pressing the power button, or using the fingerprint while screen is off? If you use fingerprint after turning the screen on with the power button, it's a lot quicker. Which is why I think it's fixable and not a FP driver issue.
I am also facing an issue with Lineage OS as well. Occasionally it lags for a second before turning on. Never had this in the original MIUI
If you guys are serious about getting this fixed, throw some money in the pot and if someone can fix it, we'll donate to them. The more money we raise, the more likely someone will take the time to figure it out.

Yeah, looking forward to 9 in EPIC. As for split screen, I don't think I used it once on my Nexus 6. Yes, I tried it out, but never bothered again. Expanded notifications (if they come) and being able to reply directly from notifications will be good though.
The unlock is one of the quickest on any phone but there is definitely a 1-2 sec delay on RR/LOS the last I tried either of them. The delay doesn't really bother me, it's more the lack of sound. It's a really minor niggle but I like the audio feedback to let me know it's unlocked without having to immediately look at the screen.

Same issue for me. Take a good 2-3 second to the screen to wake up, whereas vibration feedback is really quick
Clearly this doesn't just bother me. In case you haven't seen a bounty thread before here's how it works: people agree to donate a certain amount of money to whichever dev fixes the issue. I'll keep a running tab in the OP with names and amounts. If/when a dev fixes the issue, wee donate the agreed to amount to them.
This is how lots of Motorola phones have gotten bootloaders unofficially unlocked, figure it's work a shot. Seems like our primary developers have decided it isn't worth fixing, let's show them it's something we care about.
UPDATE: Papps appears to be working on the issue. He's got a fix that shaves about 0.5-1 second off fingerprint unlock here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72909040&postcount=2325
Looks like we're down to about a second delay in Papp's latest RR test build. Going to close this thread and pay out the bounty. Thank you very much, Papp's!

Is anyone fed up of the 3T

Hear me out. I think the phone is amazing. The software is crap, now the 5 is out the updates have already slowed. Not to mention OOS is always behind on security.
Now custom roms. I appreciate highly the work so many devs have been doing especially sultan, lineage and paranoid. But theres always something thats a bit off, camera especially, lag etc. Always end up going back to OOS then get bored again, try roms again.
Is there anyone else like me who has had enough of being a crack flasher or gets bored easily and has just had enough of trying to find perfection from a oneplus phone ?
What do you want to hear? Need a confirmation for yourself to get another phone to make the step a bit easier?
Yes, I hate the manner of OnePlus to not even fix a single thing, like the implementation of the Camera2 API. Sure, they lied to us more often than we want. But what company does the job better?
If you want to get a new phone: Fine. I'm also looking for a replacement. But I'm looking for phones for weeks or months, so I'm sure, the phone is good enough and beloved by devs. For me, no OP-device anymore. But really fed up? No.

I dont meed a confirmation from anyone. Ive made a topic for discussion. For instance i have a oneplus one as well ae my back up. There is more stable nougat roms on that, a 3 year old phone than there is on the newer higher spec 3t. Phones are getting ridiculous. What the hell is with these curved screens now so no tempered glass fits properly.
The next phone i get needs to be something that will have good support. Preferably from a company who releases camera sources

Honestly stock is the best for this phone by far. Set it up right and its the fastest phone out there. Are you talking about screen lag or application lag?

Ah! I am defeateddddd! Pa had application lag. For instance it opens but messages would appear after lag and same with settings. Stock is better but i hate the delay in updates that dont fix basic bugs or update security.
My 2 cents; OOS continues to be good enough I don't even bother to unlock anymore. I was a Nexus fan for sure, but the 6P was my end of the line (yeah yeah, end of the line anyway). I had numerous issues and it finally got the bootloop problem that was plaguing many users. I got a used replacement, sold it and never looked back from the 3T. I tried most roms for the Nexus lines and while many were excellent, it was always something. When I got the 3T I decided to just leave it stock for a week and have not looked back. I get at least 2 days from it, it charges insanely fast, have had no lag/reboots/lockups, nothing. I would say I'm a fairly normal user except no social media really, privacy and all.
I keep a tab on what's new and as of today, nothing at all has tweaked my interest. Samsung/Motorola/HTC = never, too bloated. Pixel = too expensive.
I do feel the security updates are a bit slow and some additional OOS goodies would be nice, but for the price, for me it's hands down still the best phone.
Stock is the best rom, ftw

Is there anyone else like me who has had enough of being a crack flasher or gets bored easily and has just had enough of trying to find perfection from a oneplus phone ?

Didn't we get like 2 betas already since the 5 is out? Also, custom roms have issues on EVERY phone. You won't find a phone where a custom rom works 100%.

3 betas since our last update. Because we are still testing for the 5. Tell me what beta features have come to stable?

I don't know and I don't care to be honest. The stable version of OOS is an inferior version of the beta at this point. The beta is 100% stable in my experience and offers more features than the stable one as you've said.

Wlan signal quality is very bad with mine.
Noticeable in many games, when it is endlessly stucked until the it the signal gets through again.
With 4G there is 0 problems, it's only this weak Wlan module, it's getting on my nerve.

Question Which GCAM distro/dev, and is it really better than stock ?

Hi Guys,
So I picked one of these phones up recently and treated myself to a phone upgrade. I must say, so far I am extremely pleased and impressed with the device so far. It's fast, feature packed, all what I expected and more. First time with a MIUI device and must say I like it.
However one of the constant criticism of a phone in this class, is the camera quality and everyone saying to use GCam.
I've tried many different distro's, builds and version of GCam and starting to confuse myself now... So just wondered which one you guys use, that offers best results and least likely to crash. As noticed a lot don't like the video section...
I've used: Arnova8G2, BSG, MTSL, MWP, Nikita... among many others. And must say I find BSG the most effective and reliable, but still the occasional crash.
So which one do you use, and why...??
Also, the stock camera doesn't seem that bad... I tried it on a couple of things today and expected bad results, but thought they fine...
Lastly, with the GCam mods, one of them seemed to be fully enabled/unlocked, but can't seem to find that now. One of the features I liked was the after effects of touching up images. I believe the settings were, Auto/Enhance, *Dynamic*, Vivid, Warm and Cold filters. Dynamic is the one I want to use as this looked really good, however everytime I see it now it says I need a "Google 1" subscription to use it, which I didnt previously... any ideas?
Cheers, Lister
howdy lister
yeah i picked up one to in the week , note 11in argos for £169 ( 4/128) . i dropped my x3 nfc and the touch screen developed a mind of its own
right first the image tuning options you mentioned are in google photos , you may have turned on use 3rd party gallery app in which case it will use a different one . so just turn it off again and should use google photos again ( if you haven't disabled it ) . i use google snapseed to edit photos , and its free .
as for the camera it looks like you've done the same as me and tried every version there is lol . I'm no expert with the settings but I've learned how to change a few reading various bits n bobs . at the minute I'm playing with MTSL v7.2 . its pretty much the same as every other version you'll try , ya cant get rid of that overall image softness . I've read a few comments covering various xiaomi phones saying it seems to be an issue no matter which phone or version you try . so for now i suppose we'll have to put up with the soft pix , but night photos are pretty decent , actually absolutely brilliant compared to stock app
and on the plus side the video looks a lot better i think , can shoot 1080p @ 60fps and the blurriness seems to have disappeared when you pan quickly . plus the overall detail seems to have improved too compared to the stock camera app.
i'll try and upload my xml ( never done it before ) , have a play with it and see what ya think
Me: BSG Gcams
Heeey Mero,
Ditto, the same... I bought mine from Argos too, same price, same spec. . It was my birthday last week, and thought I'd treat myself after making my trusty Samsung Note 1 (N7000) last like 10yrs almost. Bought it 2nd hand, and modded it from Android Gingerbread (2.3.6) to Android Pie (9.0) and also had a Samsung S5 (with IR) and thought it was about time I had summit newer/faster...
The IR was the main selling point, hence went down the Redmi route...
Right up until the day, I was due/set to get the Redmi Note 10 5g, as it was around £159 and the Note 11 was like £200+ . On the day, they switched, the Note 11 came down to £169 and the Note 10 5G went up to £209. Choice made... (both had pros/cons, came down to price).
Ah awesome thank you for pointing me in the direction of Google Photo's being the issue... I couldn't workout why one minute it was available and the next it wasn't. I tried multiple version and tried to go back to original GCam as thought that had it, could never find it again.... lol. So that will massively help me, thank you...
As for which GCam..... yep, pretty much tried them all. Those above were the main reliable ones, but tried many many others too.... Some worked ok/fine, others would produce green-ish photos, others crashed when switching to videos/settings... So could never find one that would be reliable. Used the stock camera yesterday and thought this aint bad, what's all the fuss about....?? Admittedly only viewed them on the phone's screen and not exported them yet... But yeah seemed ok...
In all the reviews online they talked about the soft-ish photos, but I couldn't see this on the phone itself, they all looked sharp and clear. The Night Photo's seemed to be impressive, but I guess low light photos will be awful unless use GCam.
With the stock app, I selected 1080p (I think it was 30fps) however when I looked at the output video data, it said 1280x720... hey, who stole my frames?? I bet if I selected 720p, it would be summit like 720x480 lol.
I think I tried that MTSL 7.2 as one of the first ones, as read that in one of the guides/reviews I think, but moved on to the 8.1, 8.2, 8.4 and recently 8.5 builds (downloaded so many.... lol ) Will have a look and see if still have it, or will download it again...
Thank you so much for your help, very much appreciated... Would be good to try your xml file too, if possible....
Many thanks, Lister
no worries lister , hows the cat
i think for the money ya cant complain really , screen and speakers are brill . haven't run into any more lagging issues than i had with the X3 and its a hell of a lot lighter too . plus we should see android 12 soon as its out doing beta testing ( cant see em fixing the video quality though )
1st of all the green photos can be cured by turning on auto white balance (common issue from what I've read )
And i'd put money on it that the 1080p video is actually an upscaled 720 , it lacks so much detail it cant be true 1080, but like i said i think theres a big improvement in the mtsl version .
right here's a link to the gacam i'm using .. MTSLCam_V7.2 ( from the celsoazevedo site ) , i've used the snapcam version .
and my xml
let me know what ya think of it , i dont wanna try and change it again as i reached me limits of tinkerig lol

The Cat is fine... The Mero, just fine.... lol
Yeah, ya not wrong... for the money, the spec and features are great for such a low cost phone. Screen, speakers, storage...
Over the Note 10 5G, which had an IPS screen (and people complaining about seeing it in sunlight). When I took the Note 11 out yesterday to take some photos, I thought if the IPS was bad, this was awful... As couldnt see anything on the 11... then all of a sudden Auto Light kicked in, and became super bright. As at home, I had set the brightness about mid-way... which was bright enough for indoors.
I'm not seeing the battery as super powerful, perhaps I'm a tough crowd to please...? lol. As everyone raved how long it lasts, but me just tinkering away, playing/testing things (not gaming or video watching) just with apps... And see the % decreasing quicker than expected...? But idle wise, it lasts long enough...
Yeah Android 12 is on its way... I've tried to egg it along, downloaded it manually and put in "Downloaded_ROM" folder or whatever it was called. Downloaded the "MIUI Downloader", and enrolled to receive earlier within Settings itself.... Still no joy... It'll come when it's good and ready... lol Also, apparently may even get Android 13 too...
I think your right, I reckon it's upscaled too... Will try it with GCam and see if any difference. Hopefully they will fix that in an update, as did recall seeing something about that in a review....
Sorry to sound dumb, crazy.... Do you know where/how I can import that file...?? I can't find it anywhere within the Settings (unlike some of the newer versions). I can see where to Reset or how to Export.... and in top right corner says "Using Defaults Config".
Cheers, Lister
lets begin with the brightness .. again I've seen a few comments about the light / proximity sensor being a bit dodgy . best thing to do is leave it on auto brightness , if the sensor works it should automatically boost the brightness higher than you can manually .. or alternatively turn off auto brightness and turn on sunlight mode , that's supposed to boost it in strong sunlight .
and to load up the xml file . . first go into gcam settings and right at the bottom you'll see config save , tap it and it'll say save .. just type in a name and save it . that will create a folder called configsettings 8.3 in the internal memory . then in your file browser / manager look for the folder configsettings 8.3 and copy the xml file into that folder . then back to the camera again and double tap between the left ( camera switch button ) button and the shutter in the middle , that should bring up the xml selector and tap the name ending xml . that gives a drop down list of installed xmls and just select the one you want , tap ok and the camera will restart and your good to go
There's a "Turn On Sunlight Mode" ?? Oh wow, I never knew.... though I do now, cheers. So it appears I had this on already, yet the display is set to manual brightness. Prolly went I set it at about 50% for indoors use. That would kinda make sense. As it seemed dark for about 5 to 10 seconds, then the brightness ramped up all by itself so that I could see the screen. So looks like it could be ok, just the few seconds of darkness was like, what ???
Oh boy, I had NO chance of finding that hidden (double tap) setting between the switch/shutter... Talk about Alice In Wonderland rabit hole hidden feature... ;-) Awesome, thank you sooooo much for all your help. I shall test some of these features now .
What do you think about setting up the lenses, as between various camera modes, these are either enabled by default, hidden or called by their focal lengths I assume, such as 0.6, 1, and 2. Although in Settings it has Main Camera, Telephot, Wide.... I guess that just leaves the 4th thats not set as Macro ?
Cheers, Lister
I just use the main 50 / 12.5 MP lens . The ultra wide is pretty useless tbh and the macro is just as bad . I don't know why they even bother sticking them on . And yeah a lot of features are buried in there , I spend most of me time trying to remember where the one I want is . I'll have to do a few test shots and post em so people can compare . Oh and by default the app shoots at 8mp for some reason . There's a fix in there to set it to 12.5 , I've enabled it in the XML , although I don't think there's any extra detail in the photos
well on closer inspection gcam is crushing fine details , almost a water colour effect . back to the drawing board again

Hey Lister, just came a cross your thread and remembered my old self few months back when I was in the same situation. So I just bought Redmi note 11 after using my LG G3 as a daily driver since 2015. That poor fella got admitted in ICU and eventually passed away RIP lol
Anyways, long story short, Im using this Gcam on my Note11 android 12 stable beta.
It also works fine on eu.
The results are just mind blowing as you can see how this photo was rendered despite of low lighting and 2x zoom.
Install the apk from here :
BSG: MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix
Download MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix by BSG.
www.celsoazevedo.com
And select English, if you are using any gcam version delete that first, then lunch the app and allow all the permissions, now double tap in the same location that I've mentioned in the screenshot and slect the xml config file that I've given here or get it from this link :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oup9zmuD5fyI-LrlaZs4NsjgeFA3MkDV/view?usp=drivesdk
Boom you are good and there is so need to customize anything.
A little note; If you wanna capture micro shots then do not use this gcam port, instead use the stock camera as it displays the picture upside down lol. I have tried to solve this issue with my own configs but failed alas!! Rest is all good to go.
Also use google photos for extra stunning tunning of photos.
I hope this would help.
Peace 🫴

Hi The Mero,
I've not had chance to test the camera out yet, as was out all day yesterday... Sorry to hear your experience didn't go to well, although hopefully from the recent post below this will help both of us.... Who knew that Xiaomi would market their phone as a 50MP camera, when really its only a 12.5MP and via other apps only 8MP. The front facing camera is more high def than that... ;-) cheeky fella's... lol.

Hi NotClawGenius,
Sorry to hear of your loss... ... Aye, my old trusty Note N7000 was still working fine until yesterday. Now it just drains really quickly (with a new/fake battery, as they no longer manufacturer them). When I first got the battery, it held really strong, when it got to 1% it still wouldnt shut straight down. Now a full charge lasts like 8hrs if that... lol. Then it got so slow, its driving me insane. Admittedly, I am running Android Pie on a phone that shipped with Gingerbread... lol
Anyway, thank you sooo much for your post above, in such great detail too.... Hopefully in the next couple of days, I will get chance to go out and about and take some test photo's and try. I see what you mean by the Macro lens though, odd how it's rotated.
Thanks again, much appreciated guys...

Wait what android 9 on a phone that got shipped with ginger bread. You should be thankful as it is still alive lol.
Yeah rooting it wasn't a big deal bcs I was using a custom miui port rom on my note 11 but when I heard of android 12 official beta update, I rushed to flash it for testing purposes lol . Having a bootloader already unlocked and recovery installed, it wasn't difficult for me to install magisk hehe.
Im sure you gonna like the quality, it is way better than the sluggish stock camera.

Hi NotClawGenius,
Yeah, the Pie on N7000 was a fairly recent affair... When I heard someone had ported it, thought I better try it. At first, it was fast and responsive for such an old phone. But recently its become really sluggish, with barely any apps on it other than stock from the rom. I think the battery dying is causing it to throttle/lag.
I loved the Note N7000 and the S2 i9100 phones, as they were easily mod'able and tweakable... With no issues, the most you would get, is a big yellow warning that you could reset. And the Android world is none the wiser.... Where as now modern Samsungs with their Knox Booooo..... Once you trigger it, there's no going back or restoring. Sure, you can restore the factory OS, but then you've broken the Banking/Security in the phone.
Do the Xiaomi's have such a feature? As in, if I do go ahead and unlock/mod/root it at a later day. Will it trigger/break anything further down the line....?? Will Banking Apps still work (providing root isn't active) and if I restored the official rom OS, will it go back to as it was with no hint/sign of rooting/tampering...??
Aye, hopefully in next couple of days I will be able to get out and take some more test photos, looking forward to testing this distro out. I must admit, I was fairly impressed with the daylight photos I took with stock the other day, so hopefully if this is an improvement on that, I shall be super happy...
Cheers, Lister
The sensor in the rn11 has 50m pixels , but they are in groups of 4 . They are arranged as red - green - green - blue . Each one captures the different colours then they get combined into 1 bigger pixel. A lot of people think the photo will have more detail of its set to 50mp but it's just an upscaled 12.5mp one , cause if it displayed all 50mp at their true colours it would look a right mess lol . And the 108mp sensor in the 10 pro produces 12mp photos as it's pixels are in groups of 9
Thanks for the post claw , I'll have a play about with that setup now
I checked the stock app against my old honor 9 ( still keep it for emergencies) . Back in the day it was said to be a pretty decent shooter but the 11 pretty much destroys it now . HDR was always crap on the honor and it really shows
And I read on the Russian forum earlier that a June security update was doing the rounds and there seems to be an improvement in the video quality . I haven't seen it yet but , but the UK will have to wait for the update I suppose , it'll probably get stuck at Heathrow
And I remember Installing a custom ROM on my old S3 claw .. I think I used triangle away to get rid of the " system modified " warning when I flashed stock back on there again . Ah the good old days lol

Unlike Samsung, Xiaomi is pole apart. I thought that after installing magisk, Ima use tweaks to run the banking apps but when I installed all my concerned bank applications, there was no such need of additional tweaks, they all just work fine even with root lol. Surprising isn't it
Naih there isn't any issue, Xiaomi just wants to test your patience at once and that is when you try unlocking the bootloader. If you try to unlock the bootloader for the first time, they just ask you to weight for 7 or 14 long days. I know this is frustrating but it is what it is ‍. After that phase of your long wait you can unlock your bootloader finally yayee , install recovery and flash any of your good favorite rom. If you don't like the rom, just download the official firmware of your device from Mi official website. You can either flash it with your recovery or with Xiaomi flash tool. The good side of flashing with recovery is that your bootloader will remain unlocked, recovery intact and the downside of flashing with Xiaomi flash tool kit is that they will remove recovery and make your phone locked again. Ahhh now if you again want to flash a new room. You just repeat the above steps and weight for 7 or 14 days again. It is just like a maze bruuh
Don't worry I bricked my this Redmi note 11 more that 7 times and it was stuck in boot loop, but still I was able to use recovery and flash new kernels and brought my phone back to life.
Still I would not recommend you to flash a new rom as there isn't any big changes, all you get on a custom rom is android 12 stock experience that isn't too special and out of the universe. Soon android 12 will be out officially for redmi note 11 as beta testing is already in progress. I would definitely advice you to go on a custom rom if there was any about android 13 but for now that is a long journey lol , its gonna take a year or smth.
I will also switch to official firmware through Xiaomi Flash toll once the official update is out.
Those images are way too soft for me claw , still no fine detail coming through. Someone said gcam has a hard time getting fine detail outta newer sensors and I'm starting to agree . Doesn't matter which version you use they can't process the data properly
Newest version from bigkaka .. and boy does it blow the others outta the water . Loads of fine detail in the images now . I've changed a few things in settings , we now have 12.5mp images ( not 8 that seems to come as standard ) and wb has been set too.
Now this version uses agc not XML as the config file , so when I upload the config don't worry it's the right one , just pop it in the relevant folder as ya normally do.
Bigkaka v9
I'll post some stock Vs bigkaka shots in a bit so you can compare them , plus the config .. can't figure out how to do it from the phone lol
