Hi , i just got my New Mi mix yesterday in the Mail.
Please help me ,which New ROM to install or something.
The Stock ROM which came with it has many Chinese apps which I uninstalled mostly. But still many things are in Chinese and not accurate.
I am from Canada.
Is any Rom or update available which is Fully English.
If so, where and how to install.
Please let me know
Thanks.
I have a similar problem - but I also have additional info to share and question.
I am running Miui 8 on Max - from Eu. So I know the Chinese rom (original) are CRAP. Each to his own, but they have chinese bloatware, do not play nice with Google apps, etc.
Xiaomi.eu had MiMix ROM - there was ONE release and then Poof - they're waiting on "stability testing" ROMS for "MI5S, MI5SPlus, MIMix, MINote2 postponed due to stability tests!".
So - where's the last Xiaomi.eu ROM for this device, cause that's what we need at this time.
Dear OP (the guy above me). You will have to move to xiaomi.eu rom if you want it in english - with google apps and no Chinese interference such as search results in Chinese or other apps in Chinese.
Thanks.

Ive got the 256GB version and couldn't bear thw bloat ware, there were actually 2 releases, the latest eu_multi being the most stable release, everything but android pay works, unfortunately nothing i can do makes that work...but i can live without it, you will have to check that u have an unlocked bootloader before you can flash anything but the Miui eu forims have pretty good tutorials and you will find the latest roms there, and you are looking for "latest lithium roms"
Build your own ROM here http://mi-globe.com/index.php/rom-builder/
Enjoy!
So this flashed through miflash? unlocked bootloader is needed.

I have been extremely confused on what the available ROMs are for this device. I usually am not this cautious, but the sheer rarity of this phone always makes me think twice with what I do with it.
So after reading around a bit, to my understanding these are the available ROMs:
Chinese Stable
Chinese Developer
EU unofficial global (on MIUI 6.x.x??!)
Vendor ROM
What I don't understand is that listed for me is "MIUI Global 8.0 | Stable 8.0.7.0.0 (MAHCNDI)". No Chinese bloatware, English is set by default, play store is automatically installed...
I want to update my phone OTA, but clearly this is broken as no updates even pop up after checking. My question is:
What rom am I running?
Of the following ROMs mentioned which one is the update to my device?
Thanks guys, I hope I haven't been the millionth person to ask.
Edit: after reading a bit more I've found others in my same situation. English is automatically selected, no bloatware, and the playstore is automatically installed. Apparently I have a vendor ROM, one that was installed by the seller/vendor. It's extremely hard to believe that this isn't an official global ROM!
So this Chinese stable rom: http://en.miui.com/thread-436070-1-1.html , would it have bloatware and the whole 9 yards of hell?
I can't update OTA because the updater is broken and I'm not trying to unlock the bootloader unless it's absolutely necessary. Am I on an abandoned ROM?
I had this rom it wasn't EU rom it is global same as you 8.0.7.0.0 I liked it cos it clean of all that bloatware that other roms have but I couldn't install xposed so I tried an EU rom and it did work the Eu rom does have some Chinese crap in it but some can be uninstall and now I have a very good looking and working rom, you got to tweak and customize it as you which and i'm happy with it.
I am in the same situation as you, I'm on 8.0.8.0.0 "Global" . It was installed by Gearbest, I can only assume. My updater can't see any other ROMS, not even when I've downloaded it either. So yes I think it's "abandoned".
I've asked for my phone to be unlocked so that I can get access to update the ROM later on from Xiaomi. It's been about 24 hours, I can only assume they're busy since lots of the phones have been delivered to customers by now.
My plan is to go onto the EU ROM unless I can get access to google apps using the Chinese ROM.
So to my understanding now, Xiaomi flashed every device that was sold internationally (ones shipped to redistributers like GearBest or Geekbuying)? And now they offer no support or legitimate way (besides unlocking the bootloader) to update... Can somebody correct me or didn't Xiaomi curse us with this beautiful device?
Interesting to hear. Maybe I'll check out the EU ROM
Hello all,
I have a Mi Mix 256 GB with locked bootloader.
I would like to make the MIUI 10 update via OTA in the next few days. Is it dangerous to make an OTA update with the new Xiaomi rules when the boot loader is closed?
In the moment I use the Global Stable V9.6.2.0.OAHMIFD.
Since I bought used my device, I can not say unfortunately whether it is China or global hardware. Unfortunately, there is no label on the box.
I would like to leave the bootloader closed but if that would be a risk for the next OTA update I would of course unlock the bootloader.
Could you please tell me how I am doing best here?
Thanks
I would advise you to unlock the bootloader and then install TWRP and the Xiaomi.eu ROM.
Xiaomi.eu is based on the official China ROMs, so it should be ok even in the future.
I am running the Xiaomi.eu weekly 8.9.6 currently with no problems.
You can always go back to the official ROMs later if you want to.
I think there never was a true Global version of the Mix1, I may be wrong.
So how Xiaomi will handle it, if they intend to push back this policy to older models than 2018, will be interesting to see.
There are other devices in the same situation, i.e. with no Global model, like Mi Note 3.
I am using the Mix 128GB version. I have gone back in forth with all kinds of different roms but my boot loader was unlocked. I also owned the Mi Mix 2s for a while and I know there was an issue whether you had the Chinese XA or XE (I believe it was ) version and if you changed the Chinese rom to Global then locked the boot loader again it would brick the phone. I am pretty sure the Mix does not have this issue.
If you are already on the Global version and going by your rom version number it looks like you are running a genuine Xiaomi rom and not a vendor rom you should get the update OTA very soon with no danger what so ever in accepting and upgrading it.
Most recently I was running the MIUI Global Beta rom and hadn't been able to flash the Global Stable so I had to flash 9.6.2 (or most recent rom available from Xiaomi website) stable version and once it was complete and rebooted the OTA update to MIUI 10 Global Stable was there and the phone updated with no issue and that is what I am running now and it is a genuine Xiaomi rom for Global.
I did use the .EU version for a while which combines the best of the Chinese and Global roms but I just got tired of worrying about updates, flashing all the time etc. but if you are comfortable doing that then give it a try but you will have to apply to unlock the boot loader. When I applied for my Mix2s I had to wait 15 days to unlock it and I think that time is longer now but I am not certain.
I am pretty sure that as long as you are on the same ROM (China, Global Stable etc) then you can accept and flash OTA without having to have your boot loader unlocked. Hope this helps.
By the way I am in Canada if that matters as far as who gets the OTA first.

I just double checked my rom and yours is OAHMIFD and mine is OAHMIFH so I am going to look further to see if yours is a vendor rom...I will post my findings.
---------- Post added at 06:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:24 PM ----------
Just saw that your rom number is on the Xiaomi forums as a official rom so you should be fine for sure.
Thank you for the answers!
That definitely helps me a lot. I am now no longer afraid of the update.
MIUI 10 OTA Update is successfully done without any problems.
Now I hope Xiaomi will not apply the new update regulation to devices before 2018 in the future.
I can understand that xiaomi fake MIUi version wants to prevent.
However, this must not lead to devices being destroyed after an update.
I think a lot of Redmi 5 users have bricked the phone and the same for the Mi8 and other 2018 phones.

After brushing into the Chinese version, you should brush into the magisk to prevent BL from being locked
I think if u flash via twrp or pitchblack dont relock your BL...be careful if u flash using miflash..dont forget to choose to dont lock it

Compared to .eu ROMs, which one is more stable and fast?
Both are fast without bugs..but .eu ROMs are much better because they are cleaned..dont have Chinese Trash...many services that dont work outside China are there and u dont need and cant use them..the only advantage that Chinese rom have is incremental Ota..eu.rom need to update with full rom...i back to eu rom after 1 ir 2 days
I tried the china stable before tryig the eu version.
My impressions:
- More fluid animations (especially gestures)
- A lot of bloatware (most of it can be disabled, but not all, like the mi store, mi wallet or the assistant)
- Never saw any ads
- You can install Google play with a few clicks, but it's not as integrated as in the eu rom
- OTA incremental easy updates
- Faster updates
I still would like to go back to the china stable for two reasons: Faster updates, less bugs.
But Mi flash and QFIL didn't work on my device (MI A2 with ARB4) I don't know if you can force the flash with TWRP. If you find a way please let me know.
Hope it helps

What do you mean MiFlash does not flash your phone, it should be able to flash it at least for stable ROMs,
Did you try it in EDL mode either?

So you're wanting to switch to official MIUI that has ads and bloatware over using the builds from xiaomi.eu which the point of xioami.eu is it being the exact same thing as official MIUI but with all the garbage removed? Why?
Hello guys, I have a brand new mi9tpro with global rom and even though it works great, i cant stand all the google and mi bloatware so i wanted to flash another rom (miui or non miui)
The question is, do i lose something if a flash a custom rom? Let's say for example some quality on the camera or stuff like that.
I come from samsung where non samsung roms had to use generic drivers and thus the camera quality was horrible in comparison, and I dont want the same happening with this phone now, so i'd only flash a non miui based rom if the quality and functionalities remain exactly the same.
Thanks in advance!

My Mi 9T Pro is now under the latest beta from xiaomi.eu. Although it may be similar to stock ROM, I have frozen 69 apps (what you refer as google and bloatware).
I have tried a few smaller custom ROMs and most gave me bootloops probably because I did not install gapps. Why would I want to leave a nicely working xiaomi.eu beta ROM for something else which requires gapps and has more bugs ?
Miui.eu miui custom rom: No downsides.
AOSP based custom rom: Less battery life, instability, worse navigation gestures, most likely bootloops if you do something wrong.
Currently I'd stick to miui.eu until our device stops getting official updates. And even a year or so after that. I am a big fan of AOSP software, but it's just not as good for our device.
This all depends on personal preference and philosophy.
Some people prefer to follow the engineering prime directive: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
You do say the device is working great, so...
The other school follows the concept of: "if it ain't broke, tweak it until it is".
and you do say you can't stand it, so maybe you belong to the second group.
Then clearly a custom rom is the only alternative you have.
Some ROMs are pretty stable and contrary to the opinion of the previous comment, users report equal or better battery life.
The only 3 real complaints I have heard about are a. the fingerprint sensor performance (and even then reports vary widely), b. lack of OTA and problems with dirty flashing, and c. no android auto support.
Camera is same or better with ANX or Gcam.
True, the fact there were 4, now 3, different firmwares and SKUs greatly hurt and slowed down development and testing for this device, and also the timing with the release of Android10,
but some official releases exist and custom ROMs are slowly getting there.
If you really can't stand google, I recommend you to check out LineageOS or SyberiaOS with MicroG.
It will take fiddling, reading online and troubleshooting, but other than time it costs you nothing.
Worst case, you can always go back to Miui.
In another thread an XDA Recognized Developer has a PC program that makes it simple to disable MIUI and Google bloatware. You might want to try that before resorting to flashing a custom ROM.
Despite what people here say I've tried MIUI.EU on previous Xiaomi phones and always found even the supposedly stable builds to be buggy.
REV OS is a much more stable MIUI based ROM. Unlike MIUI.EU the devs for REV OS extensively test every build for bugs before releasing them to users.
I loved REV OS on my MI 9 but have stuck to stock MIUI on my MI 9T Pro so far. I did do some debloating using the program I mentioned.

If you are new to Xiaomi you should read up on the bootloader unlock process which seems to drive many people crazy.
>Disadvantages of flashing custom rom?
Flashing drivers manually is a major pain in the ass for me. These days OTA from custom ROMs are seemless and automatic. Otherwise it used to be another major problem with it. Another problem might be you might brick your phone. Another major problem is that none of the custom ROMs for this device are perfect and bug free. I am only sticking with MIUI for this specific reason.

No bug with miui stock or custom.

I agree, Revos is a very good stable MIUI ROM. Never found an issue with it, and there default kernel is good (on Pocophone F1).

I don't think the devs of REV OS want their ROM on XDA. Many devs soured on XDA and stopped maintaining ROM threads here.
At this point most of the ROMs on XDA are either unofficial or are threads that aren't created, maintained or supported by the Devs actually responsible for the ROMs.
And part of the user agreement for most ROMs that maintain their own website is that you are forbidden from creating any external links for those ROMs.
I bought a Redmi K20 Pro (with unlocked bootloader) and had it shipped to me in Canada, not knowing what the limitations of having an unlocked, Asia/Europe market phone in North America were. I would like to use apps like Google pay and Netflix however my device is obviously not Play Protect certified and registering it with Google's register service doesn't seem to work. I am wondering if there's anything I can do to get my device certified, like flashing an EU rom or somehow "locking" my bootloader.
P.s. I know very little about this kind of stuff so I apologize if I'm missing something obvious here.

1. flash magisk ( also I suggest using custom rom ,like LOS 18 or something else since miui is garbage )
2. use magisk hide on " play store " and " google play services "
3. reboot
your play store should show certified now
To go further on what was said above, even with a locked bootloader you won't get play certified on a Chinese k20 pro. So if you like miui, flash eu.miui. custom roms are just so much better imo, has better features and you'll get far more updates plus play certified and be able to download Netflix and use Google pay come without needing root on those big roms like evo X, pixel experience, eu.miui ect.
Or the easiest method is to just flash magisk but why would anyone want to use Chinese miui anyway. Eu.miui or custom rom is your best bet.
Did you said you are running MiuWHY?
I just wanna mention that rros 8.6.1 gave me 14hrs of sot
The vendor I bought my device from listed this phone as having a global ROM, which I'm not exactly sure what that means aside from having an unlocked bootloader out of the box. Is there any particular downside to flashing an EU ROM if I live in North America?
And yes I happen to be running MIUI 12 Not the greatest experience but I guess it could be worse?
As for custom ROMs I came to this site a while ago (Mid 2019ish) looking for an Oxygen OS port for this phone and couldn't find anything. If that or even stock Android is available, and will give me a stable experience on this phone, could someone perhaps point me in the direction of the relevant discussion?
Edit: Just to clarify, I would absolutely prefer a custom ROM experience similar to Oxygen OS over MIUI, I'm just not sure what's out there in terms of options. If anyone has a good experience with a particular flashed ROM I'd love to hear it!
