How to remove finger print impressions on 3T display - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Seeing quite a much finger and other hand impressions on the 3T display, which i have not expected on the flagship device. Oneplus3T/3 does not come with Oleophobic coating? if doesn't can we free of prints applying the oneplus curved or noncurved screen guards? Anyone feel the same?
And out of the box received a phone with some unknown screen guard. I doubt the prints are because of this? Anyone removed this and experienced the phone without the guard? If so hows the default display, attracting prints or not?

Um... you do realize that the phone comes with a plastic screen protector pre-installed right? That preapplied one doesn't have oleophobic coating on it. Remove it and you should be good.

I removed mine after a day and I'm pretty sure the 3T comes with a really bad oleophobic coating. Compared to my other phones the 3T gets alot dirtier, alot faster than my other devices.
Anyone feeling the same way?

How picky can you be? wash your hands if you really care about smudges so much

By using mind control to navigate your phone, thus never having to touch it with your oily fingers ?

I wash my hand more than enough. That's not the issue. I just think it's sad the coating on this phone seems much worse than on other, but I really like the phone, so it's not like I'm gonna change it out.

And I have 5 other phones and 3 tablets, and all of them handled smudges and fingerprints better. That's why I'm asking.
And you can clearly see (on my phone) that up by the top, around the speaker, there are pretty much no fingerprints or smudges. And that's the only part where the screen protector that came with the phone didn't cover the screen.

The ones I've found is about $20. I might try one out. I actually used Sonax Liquid Hardwax that's used for cars on my tablet once. It did work pretty well so I think I'm gonna try that

I did it a couple of hours ago and I can really tell a difference. I tried it yesterday on my old Nexus 5 and had some trouble for the wax to stick on the surface of my Nexus 5. I was thinking it would be the same on my Oneplus, but interesting enough it stuck there really well. I guess that might just be because the lack of oleophobic coating on the Oneplus.. Either way it's better now, so you should try it if you have the chance

screen scratch....

So, I got a replacement Nexus because my previous one was having 3g issues. I always kept a screen protector on it, and my screen looks great.
However, with my new one- the glass feels really nice. And I am wondering for those of you who have not put a screen protector on your Nexus- how is it working out for you? Any damage, scratches?
Thanks
None here after 4 months use.
No need to worry if you're careful man. Nothing beats they glass screen for feel.

My phone has spent 6 months in my pocket without any protection and still looks like mint condition. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you are particularly careless with it.

I've had my Captivate (with gorilla glass) for over a year and there isn't a scratch on it. I am careful, however, the glass is pretty durable. I've never liked screen protectors, they always degrade the view of the screen somewhat. Yes, I've always purchased quality screen protectors, that isn't the problem

Well, think about this - will you actually be using the stylus all the time? I'm still going to be using my finger for most things, unless I really want to make precise lines, write, etc. I'm not going to color or paint, that isn't something I'd do, but write lists, perhaps...that's about it. So, if it only comes out occasionally, then I don't see the issue. It is glass, after all, not a soft material like my old Palm unit - I wore out the upper corners playing solitaire
I've had my Dell Streak for over a year. First 3 month, kept a screen protector on it, but I took it off and have been screen protector free since. In and out of a pouch dozens of times a day, not one scratch. If it has gorilla glass, don't worry about it unless you use a diamond tip

If you're pressing hard enough to make noise, I actually wonder if the screen is going to break the stylus. The tip looks like it's made of plastic.
Slightly off topic, if you write a lot it might be worth getting a screen protector so the surface has more friction. I used to stick scotch tape to my palm so the stylus felt more like a pencil.
- Frank
Back in the days of the windows tablet (yes long before the iPad) I had an Acer that I could only operate with a stylus. A wacom stylus, with the same tip as the one that comes with the Note. I used it for years on a day to day basis and even used a writing to text input. Not a scratch! And this was without a screen protector.
Because the Note has a (gorilla) glass screen (in contrast to the Acer which had some kind of plastic screen) it didn't even come to my mind that I could ever scratch the Note screen with the stylus.

Metal bezel and scratches

The Nexus 4 is very likely to be my next phone, replacing my old HTC Desire. Anyway, I have one big concern about the new Nexus.
I have had a LG Device once. It also had a silver-shiny bezel, just like the nexus 4. And exactly this bezel attracted scratches like a magnet. You could barely look at it without producing a scratch. It was kind of like the backside of the old iPod touches (if you know what I mean).
Sounds weird, but this is my biggest concern about the phone till yet. I don't want to have a phone which is scratched all over immediately...
Just my thoughts, anyway....
Seriously?
seriously.Probably sounds a bit crazy, but I have had a really worse experience with this. The mentioned older LG device with the metal bezel looked really awfull after few weeks of usage (and I really took care of where I put it etc.)....like it's been used for a few years already...

don't think that'd work out for the front of the device...but even if, I'm not a fan of cases at all, why should I buy a many-hundreds-of-dollars/euros-device and than put it into a case for a few dollars/euros? My old phone survived my jeans also pretty well, the screen hasn't any spotable scratch - and it isn't even gorilla glass or anything comparable...
Perfect example of one of the many things duct-tape can fix.
I have no idea how easily the Nexus 4 will scratch. Guess we'll find out.
I don't think its metal, looks like plastic with chrome paint, but yes if metal it can get dings like the iPhone5.
I've also read that it's a rubbery feeling plastic which doesn't seem like it's scratch too easily.

platic with that chrome paint thing is even worse, it's just like butter. Metal is far better in that kind of stuff, the Desire's frame is some kind of painted metal, too. Got 2 noticable scratches in there, though, but that's not too bad for like 2 and a half years of daily usage with no case...

Yeah, I don't like the chrome ring either. My old Vibrant had it and it looked terrible after a couple of months. The paint started to chip and made the phone look really old. Plus it's kind of an outdated design cue. The N4 would have looked much more sleek without it.
Even in Google's promo shots the ring looks black, not silver. Looks much nicer, IMO.
You could always paint the silver ring black like many nexus 7 users have done

but you would have a deformed phone :cyclops:
I'm not a fan of the tacky fake chrome, but I'll probably just get a case/bumper for it anyway.
Wait to see how it is constructed, I normally just let my phones get scratched on their cases and then when come to selling just buy the parts and replace them, it's always as cheap as buying cases.
Bump for awareness. Someone please reply if you know about the quality/material/durability of the bezel. The strange thing is that they designed the bezel like that, to make sure the screen is safe, when put down. One would think that they made it out of a durable material/finish.
Edit: I'm quite sure that it's impossible to replace parts, when damaged. Since the battery door is sealed, I reckon you're f****d when you drop your phone and the bezel gets scratched up. This could be an issue to me, for sure.

It looks like the back cover is held on only with two screws. Standard screws not some proprietary kind. So in theory (without actually having a device to work with) it should be possible to easily replace the back cover assuming you found a new one. The back cover on this phone has all sorts of circuitry built into it so it might be quite difficult to find a new one.
It is also possible that the warranty sticker is on the bottom of that back cover, so when you take it off you rip off the warranty sticker. We will have to wait for a teardown to see if this is the case.

Polishing screen...minor scratch

Not sure how much confidence I have in Gorilla Glass but screen is just over a month old and I see two minor scratches. I babied the hell out of this phone, so I'm not even sure where they came from.
I figured I'd try to "buff" one of the scratches out which worked on my previous phone....not so much here. I used Meguires car polish and lightly rubbed at the scratch. It seemed to lessen the intensity of the scratch but now there is this...haze...where I used the product. If I wipe it away, the phone looks fine. After some use, it almost attracts the dirt/grime and you can see where I polished the screen which leads to me to believe there is some sort of coating I polished off.
Any way to fix this? Should I return it and get a new one?
You definitely polished a coating. There's an oleophobic coating that minimizes oil left behind from our fingers, and it actually also helps in preventing scratches. I'm a little confused from your title. Did the scratch occur while polishing, or did you want to say it's scratched and you want to polish it?

Sorry, it was scratched and I wanted to polish it out. The thing is, there is no evidence of anything until it starts collecting dirt. Otherwise, even under direct light, you can't see any difference.
I'll probably take back...my camera has been giving me issues as well. I'm past the 14 day grace period so I'm not sure what my next steps are.

Like the previous poster said it's oleophobic coating that was removed when you applied the polish. You could reapply it on your screen by using any liquid glass product.
Maybe you can try this? http://liquidglassshield.com/
It's not a real oleophobic coating but it should be practically the same.

Well I polish my screen too, screen protector and I get the same effect. Polishes do that, and they do that on your car as well. They're meant to protect metal so applying it to glass will give you a haze and, not attract dirt but the oil allows it to stick and it will show off more.
How do I know this? I used polish on my windshield. Same tthing. Try to wash it off lightly with soap. The other comments may be right but I think it's mainly the polish that did that

Possibly, but the bare glass underneath will still hold oil like crazy since the olephobic layer is gone there. I use the Oakley hydrophobic lens cleaner solution on my screens that don't have a coating and it works quite well. It definitely makes it easier to wipe oils off and fills in very minor scratches. Of course it's not as good as the gorilla glass coating, and the biggest problem is you have to reapply it once every couple weeks if you are using the screen frequently. Maybe the coating recommend earlier in the thread is better?
I guess alternatively you could just go the extra step and wax the screen... Vehicle wax is pretty good at repelling things but the polish does nothing like that by itself. Not common but neither is the situation

Hmm, true haha, don't use armor all wax, it sucks! Nufinish maybe?
Hey hey, why not get a screen protector? I've gotten one from eBay that's flawless 3 weeks after getting the phone. At least that way, you won't have to worry about the screen anymore; you have a new layer.
Plus the scratches will keep coming. At least when you have some on a screen protector, peel the film off and get s nee one - gone forever. What do you think?

Also, about gorilla glass being easy to scratch, its really still like any other glass. Stuff like sand will still scratch it.
My last phone had GG and I found out that my earring (quartz mineral stone) left little scratches on it, nothing else scratched it though. And it lived in my pocket daily for about a year with no case or screen protector. So GG isnt all that bad, it just wont protect against EVERYTHING.

Haha I'll probably buy one, on sale for me here. Yea I can understand, but the key is to keeping it clean all the time. Yeah I actually use that stuff and it is awesome! Never used it on anything but my vehicle though... It's mostly acetone but it does leave behind a repellant coating. The acetone will react with some plastics of screen protectors, but you may be on to something here! I ended up scratching mine too. I thought having a flip case would protect my phone but, I constantly clean my phone screen. I'd say about 10-15 times a day. And just once, there must have been a bit of git or sand on my cloth and it left its mark I have a screen protector on it now. Covers it up nicely.. but knowing it's still there annoys the hell out of me lol

And just once, there must have been a bit of git or sand on my cloth and it left its mark I have a screen protector on it now. Covers it up nicely.. but knowing it's still there annoys the hell out of me lol

^^^ This! This is my worst nightmare... I baby the hell out of my phones and, like you, I clean my screen all day long. I just don't stand smudges and finger prints on it so I use my eye-glasses cloth. And every time I use it I closely inspect it so as not to have some sort of debree on it that could damage the screen... I know, its crazy... All this cleaning and inspecting takes up tens of minutes of my day
Pardon if I'm talking about another product but as far as I know RainX is a brand of wiper blades lol! You clean your screen with a wiper blade?

Lol yes.. but they make a spray treatment that I spray onto a rag and wipe it down with. Leaves a nice slick coating that resists finger prints and I hope scratches a little

White ceramic unibody

I purchased a black Mix 2 on release and have been liking it so much since that I ordered the white ceramic version, mainly because I am a sucker for premium materials. Well today, it finally arrived!
Initial impressions are that the build is indeed quite special and the lack of seam between the back and the frame makes it so smooth. The finish has an almost translucent look to it. But boy, is it slippery! To put a case on it would be criminal so going to have to handle it carefully.
Have not used it much yet but the 8GB does feel even more zippy - maybe it's a bit imagined but it does seem to open and switch between apps faster.
For me, the size and weight of this phone is perfect.
My pics don't really do it justice!
Nice!!!!
I bet that one is really a ***** to find a case for since it's slightly different dimensions from the regular one.
Yeah good point - though it does come with a white case. Looks like it would get dirty pretty quickly however.
This one is going naked!
Looks amazing. I couldn't imagine how slippery that thing can be, but you're right, you can't put it in a case. Maybe go with a clear skin for added grip? Mobile Outfitters sells skins for the Mix 2. I know the dimensions aren't the same, but it still might work.

I had the first mix... and it was a nightmare to get a decent case for it. The Mix 2 is better...but not by a ton. I originally wanted to get the full ceramic version but I doubt there will be any aftermarket cases at all.. a niche within a niche.
Are y going to use some screen protector or protective film for the back?

No..it feels too nice. My black one is still pristine so I am confident in the quality of Xiaomi's ceramics.

And whats about screen?
I haven't used screen protectors on phones for a while now. I find the glass on recent phones just doesn't scratch anymore.
I am curious where one can buy this full ceramic version.

I wish... I don't remember the last phone screen I scratched and I never use screen protectors. Probably 20 phones a year I go through... I've had this mix 2 for less than a week and I already have some scratches just from it going in my pocket. Haven't dropped it or anything. They aren't super noticeable but annoying.
