I am facing a issue with TWRP.
TWRP is taking too long to boot into TWRP it keeps showing TWRP boot logo for 1minute before opening.
I dont know whether you all are facing same issue or not.
If not please tell how to fix this problem.
Same here, but for me is above 2 minutes. I wonder what's the cause as it works fine after it (finally) starts.

When it tooks too long try to push some button: volume or on/off. Moreover, if your device is connected to PC, unplug the cable. Hope it helps.

I have the same issue on my OP3T.
You guys are probably running f2fs and encrypted. Running ext4 decrypted is the solution.
I'm running f2fs non encrypted and boots fast enough.

Encryption is the main slowdown, then it's f2fs
Seeing as twrp needs to decrypt the storage it needs the time to do so, it's up to the user if it minds that or not. You can decrypt it.. As far as I know flashing stock does encrypt it again though -_-. Or is there a way around that?
so by formating /data, the phone is decrypted. right?
will i lose my internal storage data? like music, downloads, pics?
/data is usually just your personal apps... i thought?

Yes, Your internal will be formatted!
what is the solution for this. i have zero file in my phone it takes more than 5min to open twrp. how to convert ext4. i dont know while i am in f2fs and ext4 or encripted or decripted. HOW TO CHECK THIS THINGS?????

This phone is F2FS encrypted by default. What you are seeing is normal. I haven't timed it or anything, but yes it takes me a few minutes to boot TWRP. F2FS makes for slightly faster opening of apps (and significantly faster load times for games apparently), and thus effect everyday performance.
Reading this thread, decrypting will have a significant change on TWRP boot time. But at the cost of losing the security of having the phone encrypted.
Unless you are booting into TWRP really often (flashing ROMs or other mods frequently, etc.) it may make sense to leave it alone. Since you will be impacting every day performance and/or security for something (TWRP) that is only used occasionally. But again, it obviously depends on how you use the phone. Personally, for the times I use TWRP, I just boot to recovery and do something else for a couple minutes, then come back and do my ROM flashing.
I'm on ext4 and decrypted and the OnePlus 3t definitely needs more time to boot into twrp than all other phones I had in the past. It's showing about 30sec the twrp loading screen. Never had this problem with other phones.

I was on f2fs by default..I faced the same problem ..I changed the partition to ext4..there is no significant change in performance plus the phone boots up faster now and TWRP loads faster than ever..

I feel that I am running on borrowed time. Every time I upgrade to a new version of cyanogenmod, I do a full Nandroid backup. I've done this several times without any problems.... until now. Here's what is going on.
1) Boot into recovery mode, run Nandroid Backup and it performs backup, adding dots, ENDLESSLY. I allowed it to run for 20 minutes straight and no change.
2) When I boot the phone normally and check the nandroid folder on the SD Card, I find that it started by creating a file and FILLING THE REMAINDER OF MY CARD! (2.2 gig).
3) After running fix_permissions, and FSCK on both the EXT3 and FAT partitions, is get the same result.
4) I went ahead and did the newest cyanogenmod update anyway and the update took without a problem, but the backup issue still is present.
This seems to be similar to this thread. Anyone here with some possible solutions?
EDIT- SOLUTION:
I went into Manage Applications and cleared out all the various caches. I noticed that "Browser" was reporting a very large NEGATIVE size for its data and total size. I'm guessing that that was the problem.
It feels so much better to have a good backup completed.
I know cliq users have that problem if they try to run nand with the phone plugged into USB. Was your phone plugged into USB by any chance?

Yes. Every time a do anything firmware related, I connect to USB for that redundant power. I'll try without and let you know what I find.
Thanks!
Just tried again without the cable and waited till the screen was completely filled with dots (over 14 minutes) and it was still going. Had to pull the battery to restart it.
BTW... is there a more graceful way to terminate this without pulling the battery?
Did the Cliq users have to do anything after they encountered this problem besides unplugging?
Any log files I should check?
What recovery image are you using? Thought about upgrading it or just reapplying the image?

Just updated the recovery to RA-dream-v1.5.2 and it did the same thing. Also tried with a different SD card. No change.
Actually I just found out that the backup doesn't fill the card, it stops at the FAT32 2gb filesize barrier.
EDIT: Additional info: It is the data.img portion of the backup that grows to an insane size.
BART backup ended up failing also.
I've never mounted an .IMG file before. Could someone help me do that perhaps to see what file inside the data.img is exploding?
Try dropping to the console, enter umount /sdcard. Then run nandroid from the console.
Did I do what you wanted?
Booted to recovery, to console, umount /sdcard (wasn't mounted), /sbin/nandroid-mobile.sh -b
It went through and hung on data.img.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! Thanks all who helped out.

Hi,
I had *exactly* the same problem today. While searching for a solution, I tried similar things to solve the the never ending backup problem.
I read your solution a few minutes ago, checked my entries under "Manage Applications" and found the K-9 mail application with a size showing a large negative number. Deleting the cache was not possible, I had to uninstall the whole application.
After that, the nandroid backup works (and I think faster than ever... only about 2 lines of dots on screen).
Thanks for your solution!!!!!

I decided to dust off the Touchpad that was on CM9. I was trying to catch up and installed TpToolBox, and upgraded CWM. I did a bunch of fixing in Toolbox and now all I can access is /sdcard/0/clockworkmod folder which is empty. All my data is still there as when I mount the touchpad it shows up in windows.
I have been trying to read about what to do and found some stuff that I don`t know how to comprehend. I am a bit behind on the changes from cm9 to cm11 but understand there is a media storage difference.
So can someone please help me to get back to whatever I need to do to flash a CM11 rom. I can easily back up the data I have and go from there. I am sure there is a link out there but I don`t even know where to begin...
TYIA
I would like to know that as well. Thanks for info.

having just used it myself, this is what i understand happens
if you did the 'complete data reset' then it should be obvious that your entire touchpad is wiped
if you did just the install android, it will repartition the data into the new media partition, and the last 4.5gb into the legacy data partition, this is the partition that's going to mounted as 'external_sd' and will be where all your old data is stored
if you had over 4.5gb of data before the repartition, i'm not sure what happens, but my guess would be that the toolbox is smart enough to make the data partition to whatever amount of data is used and the leftover amount as the media
so now, after this, the /sd_card/ is part of the new media partition
go up one directory, and you should find the /external_sd/ and that should be where all your old stuff is

My data is there but only accessible in webOS or when mounted in toolbox. I cannot go up any directories. It sticks me in one and I try to mount others but nothing happens.
did you actually install cm11? if not, what exactly did u do?
it sounds like you started the install, but did not complete it, if that's the case, just do the install android again, it should see that you have the correct partition sizes and thus, will not do any repartitioning
then just continue with the install

Well that seems to be doing it. Thank you so much! I do not know how I missed that. It had been a long day and was frustrated! Damn man thanks again!
Dear all,
I have TF701t and when it boots it asks me to type password to decrypt storage.
As far as I remember I never put one?!
It got drained batteries a few times and this could initiate the problem.
To get it work again I tried many things; to wipe, reformat sdcard but without luck.
I can fastboot and boot recovery.img and after that adb shell so this was my hope to fix it.
When I wanted to install new ROM *any* installation failed as it can not write to memcblk0,
tried manually (via adb) to mount partition, to reformat, even used gparted, but no luck.
Do I have any option to make it usable again? I am willing to wipe it or reset to factory state if possible.
Is this all because of encryption that is messing with storage?
I have external class 10 64G card I could use instead device memcblk0 if this is possible?
If there is someone having similar problems,
with possible solution I would appreciate any feedback!
Thanks in advance,
cheers
Ivica
it sounds as if you are having the same issues as posted in the thread below. Maybe your internal memory is dead or dying. You should be able to install the latest firmware from the ASUS website which will simply restore your tablet to factory.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf701/help/dead-mmc-ideas-t2830332
I have looked at the thread before but it is not the same problem I have.
My problem is that I can not do anything on the /cache or /data which are probably (they are) encrypted, that is the reason why can not flash image or install ROM, I think.
If I try to mount /cache (or data) manually using adb shell
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /cache
it complains about Invalid argument, so formating (delete, wipe whatever) is having the same issue ... I think it is all because there are SELinux or encryption in the play, some extra bits set to fs that I can not get rid off.
In other words, is there a way to format and do repartitioning of whole or only parts mmcblk0 where there is encryption on some partitions (i.e. cache -- p5, data --p12)?
Think partitions are OK, not dying because whatever I do at the end it boots and I get white screen to type in passwd for decrypt storage.
I can even go to setting and look about kerner, ID, sound, turn on wifi etc..
I am willing to do full wipe if needed just to make it work again.
Thanks for your time!
Ivica

what version custom recovery are you running? Or are you stock?
Still I can not believe it is not possible low level format of internal card to override that encryption...:crying:
I am on ASUS stock

you might want to try contacting ASUS first. otherwise, you can try to upgrade to the latest firmware on your tablet which is WW_11.4.1.30 I believe. By using the SD card update method it should completely wipe your tablet.
If you want to use Asus Bootloader to upgrade your Firmware/Android release from Asus, then rename UL-K00C-KEYBOARD_CODE-FIRMWARE_NUMBER-user.zip (like UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.17-user.zip) to T4_SDUPDATE.zip and copy it in the root folder on a MicroSD card that you will insert in Asus tablet. Then use use RCK option in the Asus bootloader to read the file and launch the upgrade. more info on installing a custom recovery can be found here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_tf701t
here is the US link for the firmware update from Asus: http://www.asus.com/us/Tablets_Mobile/The_New_ASUS_Transformer_PadTF701T/HelpDesk_Download/
Thanks for the tip
but not working, tried that before and now once again :crying:
Starts ok, after 10-20s android turns on his back and red triangle with !
After ~50s it reboots into the same state as before, like it can not format/overwrite anything on the encrypted partitions of /system and /data and /cache.
Tried to do that via adb shell and was not able.
After it reboots I get that white screen with asking to enter passwd to get into encrypted system. What is interesting is that is gets into state making "click" sound (the same as when typing) every 1-2 s interval.. And that goes on forever, have to mute sound or turn off.
Cheers,
Ivica
p.s. when get time I will try to use external card to boot from (like in one post before) or even install linux on the the external SD.
Does anyone else have madly slow "... Updating partition" in TWRP. my boot time is really quick, I boot in to TWRP, screen in seconds. But after it decrypts which is handed quickly I have to wait aggges for it to update partition.
Again same with flashing stuff. Flashing is quick until it comes into updating partition takes so so long. Anyone else have this problem??

I have the same issue. Not sure if it is a bug or not
I guess it's because of the f2fs filesystem. I switched to ext4 and I never had any issues.
That's the power of F2FS, or the lack of rather ?

Do you lose data by doing this or are there any side effects of changing it to ext4? I'll be getting my OP3t today so just wandering around.

You will lose everything in the data partition, including internal storage. The advantage is that the reading speed will be slightly faster, and the boot speed won't slow down after filling the storage up.

Opening apps will be slower, although probably only noticeable in some games: https://www.xda-developers.com/clearing-up-misconceptions-regarding-op3-and-op3t-storage-speed-differences-and-f2fs/
Unless you are a flashaholic and booting to TWRP a lot, I personally don't see much benefit in switching to a file system which may impact performance during normal everyday usage (just for faster TWRP boot). But folks will probably say that EXT4 is still plenty fast (the OP3 had it, after all). So it's just a personal preference and decision.

I used encryption once, when my N6 was running LOS 14/15. But then the navigation app became very, very slooooow in loading its maps, and my podcast app also was a bit lagging sometimes. So, when I flashed LOS 16, I decided not to encrypt the storage any more.
Now I am running LOS 17.1, and I am reconsidering encryption, because 17.1 is a much newer version, it might be that encryption works faster then before. Does anyone have experience with the this and can anyone tell me, how great the loss of loading speed will be on LOS 17.1 compared to previous LOS versions?
Alternatively, can there be a non-encrypted part of the storage, for things that don't need to be encrypted anyway, like maps and music, and one encrypted part for personal data? If the N6 had a memory card slot, it would be trivial to encrypt the internal storage and leave the external card unencrypted. But given the limited and non-expendable built in storage, a partitioning could get tricky. I guess, for a start root will be needed for this. And then: how will apps behave? Not every app can be told where to save its data.
If any one can tell me any thing about this, and hint or clue or help will be most welcome!
you ever find good info on this? I have a really old LOS, (I think 14.1) and I stopped flashing updates b/c i liked it and it was pretty stable. But I have been getting a lot of crashes and poweroffs and lag recently. I'm currently also using encrypted storage which is probably slowing everything down.
But i want to keep my storage encrypted if possible, but if not I'll at least beupdated to LOS 16 or 17 soon.

Sudden power-off is a sign that you need a new battery.
Lag and crashes could be many things, but first thing to try is doing a complete backup, then format the data partition. That will fix possible corruption of the file system or system data.
For typical use, encryption is only marginally slower. I doubt that is your problem.
If you upgrade, then remember that encryption was changed at some point (I think it was going from Nougat to Oreo, but not totally sure). That makes it necessary to format the data partition (again, backup first) and then reencrypting. Please note the difference between wiping and formatting, wipe is not enough.
Unfortunately, TWRP hasn't been updated, so if you encrypt with a recent rom, TWRP will no longer be able to access your files.
