I run MIUI and am sick of the launcher (app drawer, etc.) I like GoLauncher with its widgets and such. There are a few things I want changed though, and I would like to know if it has been done.
First, I like how the icons in MIUI are really large, in GO, they are very small. Can they be changed in GO?
Secondly, I like how the text under the icons in MIUI do not have the black background. Is this possible in GO?

I didn't know they had one. I will take a look.
Launcher Pro is the only launcher I think that can remove the icon label backgrounds.
One of the reasons I love it. I do wish it had bigger icons and maybe a 4 icon dock.

I like GoLauncher better because of home swipe actions, the ease of changing icons on both homescreen n dock and overall smoothness...
This is why I use ADW EX.. you can customize everything to do with the icons.. Size, background of icon, text color, size, fully customize the dock, instantaneous drawer (I find go launcher drawer to always have SOME lag), tons of themes, same swipe gesture options and screen animations.. The only thing you lose is the widgets and there are other market Apps that take care of that.

Same here.. LPP and GO are great, but ADW customization go further (no dock is a sweet feature too)... but ADW is not as smooth as the two others, I mean that when you want to edit stuff (widget size, placing shortcut elsewhere, etc) it feels weird, not as responsive, I don't like it but it's the only negative point so I live fine with it.. pros and cons..
In go launcher i use desktop visualizer to get some real big icons, miui style. It gives me even the option to open shortucs to folder organizer.

I just downloaded Desktop Visualizer and I did not find the option in there for icon size. How are you doing it?
Long press the icon from dvisualizer that you just added to your home screen and choose resize.
Dvisualizer is a widget, you can resize it just like any other widget.

Hello there,
what is the best launcher for the nook?
I see that Go Launcher is installed automatically with touchnooter, why that one and not another one?
What do you use, why and how did you configured it?
I'm afraid of all the flashes that i saw on some youtube videos...
I like adw launcher since it lets me set a "white" background for my minimalist black adw icon pack.
You can also change the dockbar background to a pure black by installing the honeycomb theme for adw and selecting.that theme from the adw themes in ADWSettings.

Could you please give us your icon pack? Is it possible in ADW Launcher to set to black the text under the icons (in the app drawer)?
With ADW Launcher you mean the free one or the EX version?
I used to use ADW Launcher for its layout and the "Colors" wallpaper from the Market to add a white background. But recently my new favorite is Relaunch. It's a launcher+file browser made specifically for the nook. It doesn't do widgets, but it has a lot of other features I find useful, such as battery display, wireless toggle, task killer, search, recent files, etc. I'm not a fan of the nook Library (vs. my old Sony reader), so I decided to organize my books in folders with Calibre and use Relaunch both to start apps and open books.
seems like relaunch is great, i should consider that instead of standard launchers

Do you mind posting a link to it? I did a quick search and couldn't find it.
I can't post links yet (I'm a noob -- I hate myself! ), but you can search Google for "Relaunch nook" and follow the link from the nookDevs result.
One handy thing it can do that I haven't seen any other launcher do is map itself to the nook's "Home" button on the Quicknav. Handy for 1.1.0 since NookTouchTools isn't working yet.
Thanks, from what I've played around with so far, this is my favorite launcher yet.

but i don't like the ui

Relaunch's UI is rather spartan, yes. I think it's an either love-it-or-hate-it sort of program.

From the market it seems that it needs Android 2.2 or better, did you have any trouble using it on Nook's 2.1?

Any hint on how to find a 2.1 compatible version?
I found a nice one! ADW Launcher (yes, we know) but... add on the Minimalist Black theme from the Market. Black apps and labels on white. This is perfect for the nook screen and with some settings tweaking, you can make all apps fit in one screen. If you want, download "Colors" to use a pure white background for the desktop.
I also found that File Expert is a decent file manager and its default theme is white. The fonts are a little washed out, though, so I tweaked them a bit and it's a nice black-on-white. Most other file managers I've found use annoying graphical backgrounds.
Just did that yesterday installing also a copy of minimalistic text 2.6.2 that I had on a eclair defy, it suits eink perfectly.

Hehe, I was wondering when that combo would show up again.
I was advertising for it back when I first got my NST but nobody seemed to care.
Tho I no longer use it, imho it's the best launcher setup for the NST available atm
Btw, you forgot to mention the great icon pack that comes with it!

This would require some very intrusive frameworks changes. Not something you can just install as an application.
Dear,
Under MM, if you want to use Google Launcher instead of the welcome Huawei, or Huawei Launcher, download Launcher Google Now and go to applications, and parameters and finally advances parameters and application use by default, and pitch Google Apps, and enjoy the result.

Did you manage to get the App icons uncluttered like in stock android with Google now launcher?
I still have these ugly borders and backgrounds... Even if I use the purev3.hwt theme. It only works on huawei launcher..

I'm running Google Now Launcher, and no, I'm stuck with the hideous icons, too. As much as I like the customization option on the P8lite, it'd would've been nice to have the option to use default app icons (as in, the icons that apps show on their play store page).
Does everyone else has black background under the on-screen buttons and notification bar doesn't blend with the whole launcher? I mean app is not immersive (fullscreen)

Edit the OP than with the recommendation changed from Google Now launcher to Nova.
Nova is great especially if you want a really good stock android experience. Settings are limitless and probably one of the best launchers out there

You can also use NOVA launcher. the icons there are the stock icons, without the ugly huawei borders ^^
I have been trying out different launchers on my S8. Let me know of any you are familiar with or recommend.
Microsoft Launcher: I am currently using this and pleasantly surprised. I don't login to Microsoft because I don't use those services but see how it could be a good thing for those that do. MS has made a very nice tablet launcher experience. Even the MS Start news app works well enough as a Google Now replacement. I love to hide junk news sources I don't want to read, and can request fewer articles on topics of interest. There are ads in the feed but at least they are subtle and have an indicator so you don't have to click. Loading news is sometimes slow but it could be my connection.
Smart Launcher: looks great but it is a subscription service to reap the full functionality. I saw that they also use MS Smart but it doesn't seem to work well in that launcher. I can't get my head around the launcher subscription service revenue model, who would pay monthly, or the value add to do so.
Nova Launcher: my go-to on phones. However, the tablet experience isn't great. I couldn't figure out how to move the dock to the bottom in landscape.
Apex Launcher: seems nice but also has a subscription model. I didn't spend much time with it.
Action Launcher: another I used for years on phones before switching to Nova. I also couldn't figure out how to move the dock to the bottom in landscape.
If I'm gonna be completely honest, I'm super fond of the OneUI launcher and have been using that instead of Nova for a couple of weeks now. Samsung has made OneUI even better in the coming updates, so I just don't even change it now.
@SavXL I am in total agreement. OneUI 4.1 has evolved very well. I had a Samsung Note 9 with the earlier OUI versions which I didn't prefer over Nova.
As a launcher hopper, I will use the OneUI launcher again. Icon pack support would be a nice addition.

Indeed! I used Theme Store in the past.
From within OUI launcher icon preferences vs. theme store is my wish for installing icon packs. To be fair, Google's pixel launcher doesn't allow this either.
If you are really advanced, use total launcher and you won't regret it.. Basically you can re create any launcher with it. But 1st time you use it, it's look awful.. By far the most advanced launcher right now if you give it time to understand what you can do with it. But i still use nova when i want something simple to use it in 5 minutes.
Here an example of my theme i created in total launcher. I inspired from htc. (I could create exactly the same launcher htc had if i wanted):

Square Home Launcher by "ChYK the dev" works really well on larger devices. It's like a Windows 10 start menu look, but with lots of options. Takes a bit to get it customized just right, but well worth the time.

What method did you use to change to a non-default font? Did you just download it from Samsung's store?
This one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...v2-1-for-samsung-oneui-1-2-3-no-root.4195613/ ?
I've used Nova Launcher on all four of my tablets. going back to 2014. Just last month I upgraded from a Tab S4 to a Tab S8+.
Transferring was a breeze. The backup function worked like a charm -- all the settings were transferred from my old to the new tablet. And it copied the icons for all the apps -- even those not yet installed. Icon locations and grouped icons were all in the same place they were on the old tablet. Those icons for not installed apps were gray, and clicking them brings a message asking if you want to install them. If you say yes, it opens the app in the Play Store. Then after they install, it goes to full color. For sideloaded apps, just install and the icons turn active. This made it easy to install all the apps I had before. No missing aps.
As far as the launcher goes, all the settings, layouts and defaults are the same. I think the only thing I had to manually install widgets that were on apps that weren't yet installed when I restored the backup on the new tablet.

Niagara Launcher.
For me it's the best Launcher after testing so many alternatives.
Switched from Nova to Niagara and never looked back.
