Android Auto will not work on your headunit.
However, you CAN use Android Auto the way it is supposed to work: install it on your phone and connect the phone to the unit using Easy Connect.
Thanks

Did I bought the right headunit? Because i thought this unit is self supporting.
Do you have a link or right APK file of Android Auto because i cannot find a official version?

Android Auto is not meant to be run on the head unit. ANY head unit. It always runs on the phone.
You can download it from here:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-auto/android-auto-2-0-6427-release/
Make sure you get the right version for your processor
Looking for a good handsfree solution

Easy Connect is the best solution for mirroring your phone and it's included by default in factory ROMs.

Thanks for your answer.
But this is not easy to connect with.
When I get in the car, I activate first my phone Bluetooth and Hotspot and the Unit headset. Then every time he is asking for a USB connection? This setup takes long!
After he is making connection I have an Mirror and I can take out the USB and it's working. When I leave the car and i come back I have to do the setup again? This is not handy for short driving.
Other quistion; With mirroring only headup is possible and no landscape, so everything is smaller then on the phone and when you drive this is also not save to use.
Some body who can help me further?

Hi Guys,
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum!
Im kinda of a android noob and I just recieved my new card (VW Golf 6) with a RNS310 navigation system.
I can connect my Samsung Galaxy S plus with the system but then it says there is no network connection so i can't make phone calls or get called etc..
No i figured out this has to do with rSap, but how do i get this to work properly on my Galaxy S plus?
I have a standaard phone without any roms installed. (fabric std. T-Mobile)
If you need any more information please ask!
I just tried out my phone on a slightly older VW Golf with a RNS310 and there it doenst use RSAP.. and it works perfeclty.
Now i just only need to find a way to get RSAP to work properly or try to connect without it.. :S:S:S anyone?
Sorry for the bump, nobody that can fix this?
Unfortunately I don't have any bluetooth option in my VW Polo (2010 model) so I can't test it out. Maybe you can find any information or any hint on this page? http://forum.android-rsap.com/index.php
There's a pricey app on the market which works well. In bed at the no so can't look it up. I'm waiting on a clever ROM cook to integrate rsap support back into ICS . May be a while though

What does this mean? Can we get this apk and install this in our android HU's and have true android auto?
I've installed this on my MTCD device via the apk (google android auto apk mirror for the apk, I cannot post links yet). Make sure to install the correct arm/arm64/x86 version for your device, the top 3 Android Auto 2.0 are the three versions.
It runs extremely slow on my unit, curious to know if others have a better experience. I think I will stick with automate for now, but hoping that there will be continued development in the android auto pipeline. I think in my case it is limited by the hardware (1GB ram, som), but I bet the newer intel units will run it well.
i have a Joying 2GB, intel unit, I will try it this weekend
Running nice on my Samsung J7 / Mazda 3 SGT
I've only played with the app on my phone but I don't think it's been designed to work in the way you think. The new app is designed so your phone displays the Android Auto UI. If you install on a MTC Headunit, it's likely that it will assume your Headunit is the phone and not link to your phone (note - I'm assuming this based on what I've read and have not tried). However... If you only install on your phone and screen mirror to your headunit, it should be close to an Android Auto experience... Let me know if this works or if anything in my post is not true...
Yup, it is essentially the Android Auto UI optimized for phones on the MTCD head unit. No link to the phone is required (which is what I expected), however the slower MTC units are just too slow to run it well enough imo.
Wouldn't screen mirroring just display the UI and you would still have to interact with the phone for selections? I feel like that defeats the purpose of Android Auto.
If they made it so any Android tablet/HU could just be the display and touchscreen for Android Auto (similar to Pioneer etc) running on your phone, that would be awesome. Would achieve the functionality at a MUCH lower price tag than the Pioneer/Sony etc units and have way more flexibility for other apps.
To be honest, I've not played with screen mirror but I thought it allowed you to control your phone from the head unit as well as display it's screen (or so the marketing talk for my head unit claimed).
I thought it was uni-directional, but I have not tried it myself either (only got it a few weeks ago). After looking at some of the information, I think you might be right (assuming it really is mirror link). Hoping that is the case!
I loaded it on my Joying 2GB Intel 8 inch Android 5.1 unit
Much better than expected, although you still can't make calls on it

Of course not, it's expecting to be installed on a phone not a tablet.
Not one of these units have ever implemented the standard Android way of handling phone calls.
Bit of a disappointment, really. The "Your Places" and "Saved" menus from Google Maps do not seem to be available thru Android Auto.
Has anyone created a Xposed or root hack that will allow AA apps not approved by The Google to be ran using AA? For example I have been working on a update for K-9 mail that will read my mail and let me respond from AA. However there is no way to use it outside of the emulator and Google would never approve it.
when I try to make a call it tells me "Network not available". anybody getting the same error?

From your phone? Or from an Android head unit?
I out AA on my Android head unit and it gets that error. Which is to be expected, as noted earlier by another poster, it is common for these Android units to not talk to the phone properly
Hi,
Anyone has some information about Android Auto Wireless?
Pioneer presented the first AA wireless headunit 2 weeks ago.
I think VW Discover Pro MIB2 with latest FW can support AA wireless as there are some codings for this .
Is there an new version from AA for wireless support ?
There is no such option in the latest APK on play store
Interested about news and reviews on wireless Android auto units...I read all the news / press release and see few videos of the units but we have to wait until March / April for release...
I emailed Kenwood about theirs, but they just said they did not have a release date available yet
This looks legit.
Can someone with a Nexus or Pixel confirm this?

Looks like today's update from the play store has it.. if you don't see the update, you can get the latest version from apkmirror.

afaik the HU will require Wi-fi for wireless android auto.
I can confirm that the Discover Media MIB2 with Navigation (I have one in my 2017 Tiguan MK2) has Wifi built in, and the headunit coding does have options for both wireless Car Play and Wireless Android Auto. However, these are both SWaP (Software As Product) functions so need activation codes from VW to enable.
I have successfully enable WiFi on my head-unit, but there isn't much you can do with it since all the connected features require VW CarNet, which isn't available in New Zealand.
Currently using the jvc kw-m845bw that supports Wireless Android auto. Currently driving right now with the wireless Android auto working. It's a nice feature, but it would be much nicer if carstream worked on it.

Hi, @rester555
Could you please let me know, how phone and car are connected? Bluetooth or wi-fi? How AA is started? Are you starting manually?
So, wireless thing is new for me, that is why asking?
Thanks in advance.

@henno88 Sorry for the late post. So when I connect my car it seems to be handshaking on bluetooth and wifi when the head unit is connected. I think when I make calls it's connected to bluetooth, but when I activate Android Auto, it's connected via wifi. I am driving a 2013 ford focus with the JVC KW-M845BW. For my phone, I am using the Pixel 2 XL unlocked variant.

To everyone here. Carstream also allows you to play youtube videos on the Android Auto as well now with version 2.0.
Tried to apply "How To use Android Auto Wireless!" but is halted
Hi
Sorry if I mess threads and things up, but I don't know where to stage my question???
I have followed the instructions in xda video "How To use Android Auto Wireless!" on Youtube and I have a question on one of the stages.
At one point I get a screen where I can choose on "Toggle Wifi on Power" among other things, and the video doesn't tell me what to do. There are no OK button or equivalent.
I can't post a pic or link to pic while I'm new here.

Replying to an old post, I know, but has there been any development on using the Discover Media built-in WiFi with wireless Android Auto? I have enabled WiFi in my Mk7 Golf and find that it is similarly useless in Australia - can't even stream music. Wireless AA would be absolutely awesome.
Hi to all,
I use Android Auto on my phone everyday. I have an old car and I would like to have a head unit that support Android auto so I only have to connect my phone, but besides the comercial ones from Pioneers and the such, the Android units like Xtron, Ownice, etc has the capability?
I have read a lot, but there is no definite answer.
Thanks in advance

You can DIY with this https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...elease-openauto-source-androidautotm-t3748563
Yes I can, but I am not the only one using the car. I want to maintain the radio functionality and integration. That is why I prefer to replace the headunit for something better that supports androidauto when I use the car.

if you already have a pure android HU, what is the point of android auto? AA only makes sense on OEM or non-android-based HUs. It's very limited, unless you hack it to run AAmirror.

It is easier just to enter the car and connect a cable to obtain the integration over the same unit and configuration like calendar, contact and messages. AndroidAuto give me all that I need in a day to day.
Evidently, these units need internet in order to give must of its features, the options are to give internet to the unit somehow with the same phone with the hotspot or cable. Obviously the easier is to it have its own sim card, but that will means another line that will be underused.
I have been using android auto on my car head unit for some time and I realise there are two issues that makes me mad,
- I can not open any music apps (I tried poweramp, yt music and spotfy) Apps open fine but when I try to listen music system freeze or hangs and head unit must restarted to be usable again. Does anyone experience it ?
- When using android auto I checked bluetooth connection and I saw connection drops and then connects again, ofcourse bluetooth connection not neccesary as most data is transmitted through cable or wireless, bluetooth only relevant for calls. But it seems strange and I started to think there is an connection issue as first activation of android auto takes time sometimes failed.
Best Regards.
I'm facing same issues since my dasaita px6 head unit installed. Not happy , always mad
Thinking to purchase new HU, Not sure what brand to buy!!
