Sorry for posting this here, but I couldn't really find a suitable place since most of the Android action is right here.
These past weeks I've noticed an increase of irrelevant threads and clutter being made in regards to Android development in the HTC Dream forum and every other Android development forum on xda. A lot of Android devices out on the market now are not made by HTC. This of course is causing a problem since this forum is for HTC devices only.
Maybe it would be a good idea if a new forum was created that accounts for all native Android devices (Motorola Droid/Milestone, Motorola Cliq/Dext, Samsung Galaxy, etc...). That way, a lot of the clutter would surely be resolved and a considerate load would be taken off of this server (Gotta hate the horrible load on xda these days...).
I'm sure there are quiet a few people on here that have an HTC device and are fully satisfied with it (Me included!). That doesn't mean that everyone else has to feel the same way. People that choose to go with Samsung, Motorola, etc. for their next Android device should not be left out. That's why I believe there should definitely be a forum that serves everyone.
To put up a new forum specifically for this matter takes no time at all, but it does take participation. So if you feel like this is something you would like to see, please feel free to leave a comment.
What are you're opinions on this matter? Agree? Disagree?
Discuss.
EDIT: If there's enough people interested in this project, would there be anyone willing to help getting things started in terms of hosting space or something similar?
my thoughts are that the few changes that have been recently made should help if they are utilized. now we have a forum for general android development for devs, and the rom releases are in the device specific forums. Here was my idea, but i think they made the right choice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4795376&postcount=1

It's a start. But I don't think xda is going to put up more sub forums for each new device out there. Thus, development and ROM threads for Motorola and other devices will be left out. Unless I understood your post incorrectly
no, you're right, i just dont think xda WANTS to keep up with every brand that uses android. they apparently keep their focus on HTC devices. there are gonna be a FLOOD of manufacturers utilizing droid in the future, and unless xda wants to change their focus, they will stick with one brand

Yea that's exactly my point.
There WILL be a flood of Android devices from all kinds of manufacturers and it would be nice if there was a place for all of them come together. That way, everyone can keep track of specific development without having to switch between dozens of forums.

good luck, my friend. Most likely it will take someone to else to start a new site to accomplish. funny, i was fooling around a couple days ago and did this. http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=176593179336&v=wall
not saying this is the solution, but you are not alone in your concerns.
I see that a few agree with me, care to share your point of view? Maybe it will spark this thing.
Unless I'm mistaken, there now is only one Dev out there that has stuck by Captivate code. As someone who places a high value on the Audience voice chip on the AT&T devices, I am very interested to see if more devs will look at this newly released source and make something of it, either new or port their existing top-notch work. I've tried, and liked, many of the I9000-based ROMs, but I keep coming back to the Cappy-based ones due to the voice quality.
So Devs... any interest? I'm sure that I'm not alone from a user perspective.
I would like to see a kernal based off the released source that also has the voodoo sound added to it. I am sure there is a lot that can be done and it will take some time.
I was thinking of flashing to something new, but with the source available, I think it's time to be patient. Can't wait for a semi-up to date ROM with full captivate compatibility!
this belongs in Q&A section
I believe whole heartedly that the ROMS the DEVs are putting out are fantastic and do everything I want and need in a ROM.
OTHER then the audiance chip support. It would be cool to have in the roms as an ability but not necessarily required.
See sig below - this post doesnt belong here. *facepalm* The devs will do what they do, when they decide they wanna do it - noobs coming in here constantly asking for sh*t only irritates them and pushes them away from bringing us the good stuff....

I thought about that, but I put it here for two reasons:
The developers come here regularly, and not necessarily the Q&A section
This is a question directed directly at the devs, not necessarily the user community
Make sense?
Devs still read the Q&A - how about reading the forum rules and abiding.... this is un-needed clutter in the Dev section

Regardless, if you feel the need to post about this topic in this section, there is already a thread about it. Post your question in there. No need for another thread.

Not trying to start a flamewar or anything... while I only joined last November, and my post count is indeed low, please don't assume that I'm here asking for candy. I comb these forums many times daily, and only post when I can't find the answers I'm looking for.
As for irritating the devs by asking for stuff... I've noticed that for the most part, they actually like the feedback, and want to know what the users like. I see no problem with providing input. Like I said, I posted here because the Devs come here, and not so much to the Q&A section.
Lastly (and maybe this should have been clearer in my OP), only one dev seems to be working on Captivate kernels, with the rest working on I9000 (since source has been around a long while). What with new hardware around the corner, dev interest for the Cappy might be waning. I thought it a fair question.

No..does not make sense. If you read the forum rules it will be clear why it doesn't make sense.
Not trying to start a flame war either was just trying to redirect you and prevent further endless flaming if you continued to post in the wrong section.
Last thing I wanted was to tick people off
But it seems that's exactly what happened.
Apologies to those that I irritated, especially the Developers to whom this thread was directed.
Out.

Agree completely!! Dev(s) do read other forums
I have question about the source code that was just released. How do I implement it into my build enviroment?
I mean ok I extract the file. Then read the readme file. It says to overwrite the modules I want to build. Is there a general rule to what should and should not be over written. I have compiled the generic code but nothing device specific.
OMG! You DARE to post here?

LOL. No apologies needed. This thread that you started is essentially the same as opcow's, except that he posted the news before you did. All that followed in his thread, however, was very similar to the responses in your thread.
Similar, but different - different because the hall monitors didn't flame anyone in that thread! Why not?? Because, methinks, for the most part, those in the other thread were more "senior" than thee, Mr. Dalewest. Get it? There's a pecking order here that must not be violated.
Strange, but I didn't notice any ROM devs complaining in your thread or Opcow's. I did, however, see some silliniess in the other thread, such as "Charlie Sheen throwing some pixie dust" into the new ROMs, but no cries of outrage over that. Then come some self-appointed spokespersons for the devs in your thread saying the devs this, the devs that, "Ooh, the devs are going to get upset," etc. [Sigh]
The source of KB1 dropping has been mentioned since yesterday or before in various threads here, and I didn't see any devs getting upset about it. The KB1 source dropping is certainly related to development. IMO it's perfectly fine to post it in Development. Your are not asking a general question - you are asking what the devs have in mind vis a vis development, now that KB1 has dropped.
That said, given that there was already another thread, you shouldn't have started another one. Consider your wrist slapped, ha, ha.

Hi,
I'm antiHackmasta. I'm a computer technician from Miami, FL and I love everything android. I don't have a whole lot of experience in make roms or development but I have managed to root and put custom roms on every android phone I have ever owned. Thanks to the great people of this forum. I figure it was about time that I create an account and start pressing that thanks button. I also would like to mention that if any rooters or rom developer ever need a tester or rom dumps or anything of that nature just let me know.
Oh and to the person that saw my handle on another forum and decided to take it. I will find you... and I will make you pay.
There is an say hi thread,
Im on tapatalk now so somebody report this thread,
And also, dont go to the off topic forums until you have 10 posts, it is in the rules, you have read them? Did you?

Hi,
Please search before posting. There is a perfectly good "Hi" thread stickied at the top of this forum. Seriously, there are 5 million registered users for xda....what would this place be like if everyone of them posted a new thread just to say "Hi".
Thread Locked.
I am requesting an official Sub-Forum for the Sprint Galaxy S4 Tri-Band.
While most roms work from the original variant, None of them support the radio correctly. As an example, using any kernel on stock TW will kill the radio, and users have to search and wade through the SPH-L720 forums to find info/files for our device.
A sub forum with the requirement of supporting the Tri-band version would be helpful to the Sprint S4 community, as it would stop much of the confusion of using the same forum, when it is not the same device. I also believe it would help gather more attention for what is now the standard sprint S4.
P.S. I have posted this in the appropriate thread, I just want to see how much of you want the same thing.

We have needed this for quite some time now... Just having a thread or a few is not enough, come on XDA Administration, don't you think it has been long overdue?
I would like a sub forum for it.
Agreed, I realize it is a pain to setup for a small(?) Amount of users, but it would be much more convenient to locate information on my phone.
Sorry guys. This will not happen. What needs to be done is ROM developers need to properly label in their titles or OPs whether the tri-band is properly supported. As stated the same ROMs flash and do not cause bricks so there is no danger therefore no needed extra forum.
It's not just ROMS, it's also T specific tweaks.

Which can be made into a flashable zip....point is, there is no danger to either version. This is a development site and people should understand what they are flashing on their phone. As mentioned...ask that developers properly label their OP or thread title whether or not tri-band is supported.

No disrespect to you, but I think you are missing the point as to why have a sub forum with-in this forum. There are so many questions throughout this forum now that are mixed in with other threads and digging through to find the information is a challenge for anyone new. A lot of the questions for the T version become un-answered. If there were a place where all the threads could be in one place that would be great! Besides it would not be hard for it to be added. The only reason I could think of is if no one wanted to mod the section to keep people in check.

Moderation is not an issue at all. It would just be included in the US Samsung team of 48 existing devices. I think the point is being missed that there is not enough differences in hardware to warrant it as 99% of the work is compatible and the only issues will be not taking full advantage of the tri-band spectrum. Look at the Galaxy Nexus forum. There is an international device and a Sprint CDMA device sharing the same forum just fine. The only difference is that the international ROMs WILL brick the Sprint device so another development subforum was added. In this case all you would need to do is flash a compatible ROM. Add to that this is not the place to ask for more device forums. It is here. But as I said, I can guarantee it will be denied based on the reasons I already stated.
The only T specific questions that I would expect to see are issues with tri-band connectivity (welcome to Sprint) and what ROMs are T-friendly. If the ROM threads are properly titled then there would be no need for the last question.

The only problem with that theory is that MOST GS4 owners have the earlier version. So they can't add Tri Band support to their rom.
This sub forum would be a place where you KNOW everything has Tri Band.
It would actually push developers to support Tri Band because currently nobody does.
My main point being is that it wouldn't hurt anyone. It would only help those of us that have the upgraded model.
Also TW Kernels break the radio on stock. JS

I gave you the link to where you can post your request. My point is that devices with similar hardware do not get their own forum. It does not get done unless there is potential for damage to the other device...there isn't. You can flash any ROM on either device. If you realize you are one of the few with a tri-band phone and your LTE isn't working you would simply flash a ROM that does support it. Unless you can show that there is a potential for damage then you will have to read the OP of the ROMs you are choosing to flash on your $700 device..sounds like something everyone should be doing.

Already posted in the thread for forum requests. Before I made this thread actually.
This is to spread awareness that it should be done, and by the poll i think most people agree.
It's like Cyanogenmod. you don't have an official build until EVERY hardware feature is supported.
I really don't get why anyone would have anything against this change. it doesn't hurt the website, it doesn't hurt the regular L720 forum.
It benefits the community. which i'm pretty sure is what this website is about.

Actually this is a development site created by developers for developers. It is not a support site. As for your poll of 13 votes, it is kind of biased as only people with that device are voting...not much difference in asking a teenager "Do you want your own room." I hardly think 13 people are going to sway admin to start a new precedent. You don't seem to understand that there are MANY devices with more than one release of a hardware variant. As it is now members go to the wrong S4 forum. Look at the big picture for once..imagine a site with another 1000 forums due to slight hardware vbariances...only requiring one thing..for the member to read. If you go to the Sprint HTC M8 forums there is 2 devices there...the original M8 release and the Harman-Kardon device. If you flash ROMs without the H-K files or firmware you will lose the Harman-Kardon features...that does not justify making their own forum...and guarantee you will get 13 votes if you had a similar poll there. This is not about fighting you on one small community of devices, this is about a site precedent and not spoon feeding members for every little thing. It is expected that members do the research before flashing anything...if they do not know to check for the proper support in a ROM then they should not be flashing ROMs. They should stay on stock and get the full support the manufacturer has provided.
The best thing that someone can do for development and the community is to make a thread in General of all the ROMs that support the T device. Keep it maintained with any updates and new work. THAT is how you help the community. I see one has been created...excellent! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660866
I appreciate your passion for this request but you really are not seeing beyond your own needs here. You have to look at the big picture and how this site is set up and run....not that we are failing to grant you this "small" request. And did you not think that this would mean developers would have to support 2 threads in 2 forums rather than one thread in one forum and have a flashable zip to make it T compatible. Developers time is valuable as they do this for free, as a hobby and with great cost to their personal and family time. Most do not want to create and support an additional thread and ROM for such a minor variance. If there is ever a firmware upgrade that causes bricks between these variants I am sure Admin will look at this request more closely.

I get it, I really do, but a sub-forum really wouldn't get in the way of anything. i'm not really asking for a whole new forum. That thread just says what works, none of them support the radio itself. But is a sub forum where we can take care of each other easier really spoon feeding?
Like under the theme and apps forum have our 720T specific forum.

I really don't think you do. If you did, then you would realize that making a seperate subforum for people who cannot be bothered to read an OP IS spoon-feeding. If there is no damage to the phone then simply properly labeling the thread title resolves this. Also as mentioned, a proper flashable zip with radio and support files will also make all ROMs compatible.
After lurking for years, I will make my first post in support of this idea.
I am in favor of this I have an 720 and a 720t would make it a little easier.

I really get what Kenny is saying .... but it isn't just the roms. Many of the xposed modules do not work for example. And I am not sure whether its being 4.4.2 or 720T. I can't get tethering to work without paying for an app (which I did). There is a 66 page thread about 720T related stuff because its just different enough to be a pia. At the very least we should all maybe try to label every 720t post with [720T] so that its easily searchable. Still means we have to do a search every time, but would be a little better in the meantime. Also, I had no idea there was such a thing as a 720T until I got this one as an insurance replacement. Perhaps this thread will at least let others in the forums know that such a thing exists and encourage everyone to specify 720 vs 720T when they are making posts so as to avoid confusion.
Yes, absolutely. I was thinking the same exact thing. This is a unique device that needs a sub forum.

So since no one seems to be ranting or asking the question about this, then I guess I will. And here's why. I read earlier this past week that LG would be pushing the update for their G3. I figure with that news out there and the idea of tweaking it to work on the G2, that there would be at least a beta out there? I've looked everywhere and I haven't found anything. I'm not sure how hard an LG is to port versus an HTC but I know that there are ports from the One m7, One m8, and One Max that work on the DNA. Anyways, I'm not trying to *****. I'm just curious as to why there isn't anything out yet? I'm ready to test drive the new 5.0 and I don't really like the nexus devices, nor do I have the money to go buy one out right. I'm just really wondering if anyone is even working on this or waiting for it to hit and then will start working on it??
1. I don't think you're allowed to post questions in development forum, ROMs only.
2. The G3 update is not as easy to port as you think as we're missing a kernel. The problem is even more complicated with the Verizon model because we don't have a CDMA Nexus model to base it on. Porting to GSM model can use some help from the existing Nexus 5 kernel. That's what I think.
Well.. I believe that someone(s) is working on a port for the G2. I'm sure that since they're doing it for free and in their spare time, they will release one when they have a "Good, Safe to Flash" version. Since I'm not a developer of any sort and just a very grateful user of their work.. I will continue to wait patiently until they see fit to release it. If I get tired of waiting then I will probably learn how to make one myself. That way I can have it when I want it.
@CoyotesFan4Evr
First and foremost, this is in the wrong section, as stated before. This is not a Q&A forums (see sticky) and at 100 posts, you should know this.
Tim from ose and reven from liquid smooth along with eight other people, two being members working on cm are building cm12 for us.
Twice now it has been leaked, resulting in two broken builds, and doing nothing more then pissing off the guys working on it. It will come when they have it stable.
What? There is no lollipop port for the dna.
Please note the sticky at the top of the Dev forum going forward...
Sticky: ★ ☆ ✰ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting do not go in the Development Section. ✰ ☆ ★
You know I get that everyone isn't trying to be rude about my posting in the wrong section but I'm sorry it came across rude. Yes I have 100 posts or more. However I didn't read the sticky at all because in my opinion of I or someone else should have a root question there isn't a real section for it that is easily noticed called Root: ask your questions here. So I'm personally going to go to the section labeled development and for my carrier and ask those questions. Maybe my brain is wired wrong in the way but to me it seems like common sense. Anyways, I'm done with my polite rant. I appreciate the responses for the information they gave me. I'll just sit back and wait I suppose. I could always play with stuff on my DNA.
@CoyotesFan4Evr
Yeah, I dunno. There's a general Q&A and a Verizon specific Q&A and you're asking a question, so I don't know why it doesn't click.
The reason why you don't ask questions here, is because it would bog the entire forum down with questions versus Roms, and this place is for roms.
I get why I shouldn't have asked my question here. That part clicks just fine mostly anyways. Where it run up on the issue is that it says general questions. I'm a member on another forum and you don't ask general questions about a rooted phone in a section like that. There is a section called all things root for that type of question asking. So I hope the logic of why I asked on this part of the forum makes sense. But for the future I won't post in the wrong section anymore.
Honestly dude just be patient. Some of the Nexus devices are only just now getting the update, and it's going to be a little while longer before we see anything. CM12 is being worked on and we'll get a G3 port a little while after Lollipop hits the G3. I'm foaming at the mouth for L just as much as anyone else, but these things take time.
If you really want to try it out, there's an early CM12 build in the regular Android development forum. It runs but has some bugs on all versions. It's really nice outside of that.
How do I enable WiFi?
Haha, just ****tin' you.
