[Q] Rom Decision, Asking for tips and recommendation. - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone, I'm completely new here as a member, but have been lurking around for some time. Long story short - I want to flash a new rom but have no idea onto which would be better, the three candidates are:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/rom-jaguar-arise-lp-5-1-1-official-t3481937
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/cr-5-1-carbonrom-t3529766
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/xz3c-x-p-e-r-e-n-c-e-r-o-m-t3513378
And I have no idea which would be best, fastest, most stable etc. as a daily driver. Also While reading around I couldn't find any information on any of these about how they handle the camera fisheye issue. So I ask you, XDA community, help me decide which should I use as my daily driver?
P.S. I have little to no flashing experience (flashed once, samsung galaxy young) so a guide of sorts (or maybe links?) would greatly appreciated.

For the first two you need an unlocked bootloader, and since you have no expirience with flashing sony mobiles start with third rom and build your knowledge ontop of that

That would make sense, but I'm more than willing to learn if it's worthwhile, the main issue is if effort is equal to gains. Also, I am reluctant to commit yet as my last flashing experience did take way too much time and before going there i want to make sure I can essentially "flash and forget" enjoying the new experience.
Thanks for the advice though!

Then going for the custom stock rom is the best choice, I'am now on AOXP and it was the best for me, I suggest looking it up

ROM advice needed, seriously

Seriously, I envy all of you experts here! Would make a mobile life more easy ;-)
I like to try another ROM. I've read the tutorial, which makes flashing sound quite easy, and I've seen quite some custom made ROMs fly by here. Point is, I really don't know which one to try.
Currently I have a BLAC100 device, SPL-1.14 with the default ROM.
I'd like to have a stable ROM with everything up-to-date (a 1.56+ based rom I guess). Well, "everything", I was thinking of drivers and WM6.5 at least.
I've been searching here for more info which could help me decide, but I can't find any more information.
Could someone point me in the right direction? So I can manage for myself further on?
Tanks in advance
what has that to do with Rom Development ?
Just flash one, Dutty, Miri whatever
no fear my frind... hust try one of the latest miri, maryone und dutty's roms... they are alll very good.
I use the latest maryone with 23502-build and it works fine
If you have lots of time and a fast internet connection, go ahead and download and flash all of em.
I suggest those made by NRGZ though.. the Energy ROMS.
maybe xannytech roms because enrgyroms are full of bugs
but try by yourself and compare ,its the best way to find out wich rom is the best for YOU

just make sure you follow the tutorials, dummyguides step by step, and you will be alright, my opinion is Xannytechs rom are fast, stable and bugfree the only issues there are htc related so to speak. You want as close to stock rom byut still modified, try duttys, you want fancy look? try energys, and miri will always bring the flasher to a happy state of contentment its all a matter of what you want and need, some roms you gonna flash away after two hours, while others praise that one from morning til night.
so you have to test, download three four roms, try one out for a day or two, test next, and then you will be hooked for life
I feel that Miri and NRGZ had the best roms earlier, but lately Ive been using Xannytech. Less bugs with Xannytech roms.
I don't think opinion based threads are allowed on XDA-developers...
As hmmhmm1222 says, read well the tutorials and the dummy's guide.
There's a sticky benchmark thread for Blackstone ROMs take a look there to see how ROMs compare.
As for me, I look at the first page of a ROM thread for a description of the ROM and then the last couple of pages to see what issues people are having.
Ask 20 people what's the best ROM and you'll get 15 answers
Flash a couple and see what suits you.
Happy flashing - it's addictive

Thanks a lot for your replies! I have a clear idea where now to go from here.
I've always liked playing with different linux distributions, tweaking it all to the maximum and testing different lay-outs.
I'm not familiar yet with flashing my mobile, but I'm catching up by reading the wiki and tutorials, an amazing source of help really!
As long as you follow the tutorials you'll be fuine. Just take the plunge and flash one of the latest roms from one of the most popular chef's and you'll be fine, i.e. Duttythroy, Miri, NRG, PhamQuang, Maryone (Hellonasty) etc etc

New Smartphone and orientations

Hi friends,
I'm planning buy a P990 and one of the first things that i pretend to do is change the rom. It comes with a (stock?) Android 2.2, and there a few questions that i need know:
i need make a normal update to GB for flash or could be directl for roms with 4.x.x?
need change baseband?
need configure google account in Froyo for flash or don't?
thanks for help now,
Dioxx
Hi there,
You can jump directly on GB or ICS (whatever your preference is) without having to configure your Google account on it. There are several ROMs on the Development forum, check them out, read people's feedback and pick the one that suits your needs best.
You can also find a few guides there. I recommend reading tonyp's Baseband guide - it answers pretty much everything related to basebands.
ICS was released officially by LG not long ago, however it can't be considered completely stable yet. If you need something reliable, I recommend Temasek's CM7 (also available at the Development forum).
The best advice I (or anyone here) can give you is: read, read a lot. Spend time investigating and learning about the available ROMs / mods / kernels. Most questions you might have now are already covered, all you need is time and forum's Search function.
Hope that helps you get started!

[Q] Samsung Captivate - Best ROM For Begginers...

Hey Guys...
First of all - I am Amazed by the level of this forum... Its truly great...
I am Very new to XDA. I Still managed to figure out essential things for my captivate.
I spent straight 8 to 10hrs [Approx a Month ago] reading and searching variety of threads, links and videos and got the Idea about rooting, Custom ROM, Flashing etc...
[I must Repeat - "Just Idea", Because having no real background and knowledge about anything related to these things... I obviously feel like Still Missing a lot of basic terms]...
Anyways - Point for explaining all that is to Make my 'Beginner' Level clear... B'coz Members here called as beginners are also quite good with all these basic terms...
I am using 'LANIGHT' ROM right now...
Now the problem is... There are still some bugs in this version... [Camera, SMS, etc]
So the question is:
1. The Best, latest and most stable version of ROM out there - which would be great for beginners like us? [We can have this thread for the updates of such ROM time to time] - For Us - This part seems very difficult to figure out...
2. Also the process of installing that ROM...
3. And if there is a quick way to figure out the 1st question in forum... Except spending hours just reading the threads... Very very difficult work... [Hats of to you guys...]
Thanks in advance...

1. This question can't be answered. For many reasons but mainly because the Best ROM for you, that feels in your needs and such won't be the same as let's say, the best ROM for me. The best you can do if look at the features list and go through the last few pages of the ROM to know about the bugs/issues. There isn't a perfect ROM, just gotta find the one that suits you the best.
2. Follow the ROM's instructions in the OP (Don't forget the Gapps)
3. Refer to #1. Also, for respect for the Devs and to avoid flaming, threads like these often get closed.
Hey, we all start somewhere
Welcome and BWolf gave you some very sound advice. I've been flashing new ROMs pretty much on a daily basis this week to find the ROM that suits me the best. Enjoy flashing and playing around with different ROMs. The nice thing about this phone is that pretty much there are ways to revive it if something "happens."

Dude hats off to you. Very correct. Even I flash ROMs almost daily. The worst thing ever happened to me was a boot loop and a home made jig saved me. Now I have a confidence that nothing can stop my phone.

Choosing a rom is a hit and trial method. Just go to captivate android development forum and choose any rom which looks good download it and flash it using recovery. Most common thing is clockwork mod recovery to install any ROM. keep flashing different roms until you find the one that suits you. Happy flashing.

I used to hold off buying a jig... until I truly needed one. Thanks to one click odin and heimdall, if anything happens, then you're always good to flash back to stock and try again
I highly recommend a jig as it can save you from a LOT of headache.

You can buy one or build it yourself. It's a great investment and insurance plan
Feel free to flash whatever Captivate ROM you like, just pay attention to the flashing procedures in each thread (as Bwolf said).

Beginners like you? IMHO, there are lots of different beginners and you haven't shared enough for me to know what kind of beginner you are.
By recent and best, do you mean that you just want a stock ROM, perhaps rooted, but otherwise pretty much the same as the last stock release, Gingerbread KK4? It is 'recent' - because it is the latest and final official release, more recent than earlier releases.
Or do you want a ROM that is unofficial, won't be supported by your carrier or by Samsung, but that runs Jelly Bean 4.2 with an occasional bug or broken feature?
Beginner is relative to the field in question, yes? An Olympic gold medal swimming winner in his first year in medical school is a beginner at surgery,
Do you excel at really carefully reading and understanding all instructions before you start on a task?
So, if you are starting as a complete newbie, maybe go for KK4 Gingerbread and add the Corn Kernel. Get stable with that. Get comfortable making nandroid backups, and using root browsers to back up efs and other folders. get comfortable moving the files to your pc, to the external sd card, etc.
After getting all the stuff backed up with good knowledge about how to restore it all, then go flash a stable 4.1 or 4.2 jelly bean rom. you will need to flash twice. oh, and get gapps, too.
does this all sound like jibberish? read the sticky threads, read the glossaries, etc,.
If you're looking for a ROM with a lot of UI and benchmark improvements, Captivating by Sephi looks great, although I haven't tried it myself. No one here really wants to pick 1 specific ROM, because everyone is different and don't want to be rude to the dev's .
Flashing ROMs on the Captivate is fairly simple, and as others have stated if you have a jig (if you don't want to buy one pre-made, you can make your own w/o soldering, there's a guide in this forum for it), you can just play around with different ROMs and can almost always fix the phone if anything bad should happen.
Just browse XDA until you find one that you think you may like, read the reviews, and try it out for yourself
I recommended Captivating ROM by she phi.. U will not disappointed

I consider myself a beginner and I like Cyanogenmod 10.1. I am using the nighties and I find it quite stable and easy to update.

[Q] First time using an Android, could really use some help

First things first, I want to say hello and I want to apologize in advance for asking questions which were probably answered at least 100 times so far, but I just can't find my way around this forum. I also want to say that today is the first time that I got an Android mobile phone of my own, so bear with me.
I have spent 3 hours on google trying to find out things by myself, but it left me with even more questions than answers.
What I want to know is how to make my phone as fast / efficient as possible.
I just got a Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000, running 2.3.3 Firmware version and I9000XXJVO Baseband Version.
Which is the newest version of firmware I can use and how do I install it? What programs does it require, and how much time does it take to do?
Even just linking me a step by step guide / thread where it was explained would be GREATLY appreciated.
Again, I want to say that I have 0 experience with Androids, but hey, there is a first time for everything, right?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help me.
Android 2.3 is "ancient" now.
If you want something more up to date, and faster, you'll need to install a custom ROM.
Don't rush into it, especially if you need your phone as a phone every day. Take some time to learn.
The latest custom/AOSP ROMs are Kitkat 4.4.
Most popular is CM11. Start reading here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526478

Mi 8 custom ROMs, Kernels etc.

So... Hello there people of the internet :silly:
I am totally new to all these Custom ROMs, Kernels and whatever the heck else is out there as well, which is why i´m extremely confused about the possibilities i might have.
Long story short: I am absolutely dissatisfied with MIUI so far although European laws affect my device. The amounts of trackers my PiHole blocks is just redicolous.
This is why I am in desperate need of assistance: I never had the urge to change my ROM on my old phones so far but MIUI drives me crazy.
Which custom ROM would you recommend to me? I´ve done some digging and came across Resurrection Remix, LineageOS, Pixel Experience and HavocOS but I am open for everything as long as it works.
Obviously I´d like some sort of privacy protection and interesting features.
As I´d describe myself as somebody who´s absolutely no idea about ROMs and all that (I´ve no clue why I should use another kernel but why not?) i am in desperate need of your assistance.
What is the most stable, beginner friendly ROM for my Mi8 out there? Do I have to keep an eye out for anything specific? And most importantly: How can I switch my ROM properly without risking the so called "hard brick"? (It sounds bad but ive no clue what the difference to a softbrick is. I mean: Brick is brick ) I also came across a Anti-Rollback. What do I have to look out for?
All in all
Please Help
Thank you very much in advance.

I'd suggest you to try Pixel Experience. You first need to unlock your bootloader, then flash TWRP and then flash the ROM. You won't risk any bricks if you follow the tutorials. If you want help feel free to DM me.
