Will a qualcomm 3.0 charge fast charge s7 edge? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Accessories

I know the s7 edge is only compatible with the qualcomm 2.0 speeds but if i got a qualcomm 3.0 car charger, would it still work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk

Yes, but as Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, they are backwards compatible.

Yes, as said above, it will charge but at 2.0 speed. Which is a lot quicker than normal charging, but not as quick as 3.0.

I bought a portable battery/charger that supports qualcomm 3.0 quick charge, and when I plugged in my s7 edge into the quick charge port, it said it will take 4+h to charge fully (from 42% battery). I switched to the normal USB port, and then it said it is 1+h left to fully charge. Wtf?

I have a qc charger 3,0 when I plug it in it worksat 2,0 speeds. I guess there is an problem with the handshake on your charger since it reverts to 0,5mah (that is the normal usb port from a laptop charging capacity)

USB charging speed extremely slow

Hey guys, I just bought my One a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it so far. However, I'm having an issue with the USB charging speed.
I know USB charging speed is slower than wall charging speeds, but the speeds I have been getting are ridiculous. To charge my phone from 0-100 takes about 9 hours over USB when the phone is in sleep mode and not being used. Can anyone else tell me if they're getting the same kind of extremely slow USB charging speeds? Is this normal for the phone? I've been thinking about replacing it and seeing how the next one fares.
I'm charging in usb 3.0 port and takes 5h

I haven't timed it, but yes USB charging is very slow in general and especially on this phone. I've had several HTC Ones, and had the same experience.

Some Kernels have an option for fast charge which is supposed to help with it but certain usb ports only put out a certain amount of power. Also I know a problem with the OG note was with fast charge enabled a few charging ports burnt out (mine included). It was easy to replace them on that phone but this one will be more difficult if it does the same thing.
The problem is that the phone sees the difference between an AC charger and a usb charger. With an AC charger it can charge with a maximum around 850mA while with an USB charger it charges with an maximum of 500mA.
There properbly is a trick how to make the phone think it's on AC charger, while it's actually on an USB charger, and therefore charge with a higher current, but I haven't found out how yet.

Depends on the current battery level of the phone. Anything above 83%(somewhere around there), even on AC charger it will slow down to 500mAh at most.

[Q] USB 3.0 Charge Time

Has anybody noticed a difference in the charge time using the 3.0 USB cord? I've tried charging with a 2.0 and a 3.0 but I haven't noticed much difference. Obviously haven't had the device long enough to really test it out over a period of time.

I read somewhere on the net that the 3.0 usb cord is only for data transfer. Not for charging purposes. Correct me if I'm wrong. I still haven't got a note 3. Just patiently waiting till I'm up for an upgrade.

So far I have watched a number of benchmark videos, and done as much research as possible (not literally):
- USB 3.0 will increase USB charging rates and USB charging speeds compared to its USB 2.0 counterpart
- USB 3.0 will NOT increase charging through a 2 Amp or 1 Amp charger compared to its USB 2.0 counterpart
- Biggest charging factor will be whether you are using a 1 or 2 Amp wall charger
---------- Post added at 04:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:23 PM ----------
"There are a few factors that come into play here, so let’s start with “power loads.” USB 2.0 is restricted to five loads, while USB 3.0 ups that to six. OK, so that’s a 20 percent increase in how many loads a USB port can supply, but there’s more to it. Each load in USB 2.0 is 100mA of current. Simple math confirms the 500mA power supply for today’s USB interfaces — five loads at 100mA equals the 500mA that USB 2.0 can supply a device.
The specification for USB 3.0, however raises the not only the number of loads, but the current per load as well — 150mA, which is 50 percent more per load. Combining the six loads of USB 3.0 and its higher 150mA current per load nets you 900 mA for power supply with the new specification."

So if i have a wall charger that support 3amps will it charge faster?

Battery charging is limited by a few things:
First and foremost the PCM (protection circuit module), it controls how fast the battery charges and discharges...
The PCM limits the Note 3 to Max 900mA (I haven't personally verified, don't have a Note 3 yet)
In the past, USB 2.0 devices for Samsung, the wall warts shorted out the data pins on the USB cable, which allowed the phone to charge at full speed over the usb 2.0 interface. The wall wart needed to be atleast 1A
The USB 2.0 ports are limited to 500mA output
The USB 3.0 ports are currently designed for 900mA output, although the spec can go to 5A or 5,000mA
So the advantage is you can now charge your Note 3 at the same speeds via a USB 3.0 on your PC as you can on the wall wart.
Now if you hack a usb cable and short the data wires and plug a usb 2 phone into a 1 amp usb port, you can get the full charging speed, but this took some effort.
I have noticed that the charging when plugged into my PC is much faster with the USB 3.0 cable, while charging on my 2 amp stock charger seems indistinguishable between 2.0 and 3.0 cables

This is correct. Only makes a difference when using the 3.0 cable when plugged up to a USB 3.0 port on your pc. Doesn't make a difference which cable is used when charging from a wall outlet.

When I plugged my phone to a USB 3.0 port on my Retina MacBook Pro Mid 2012, it's registered as (according to System Report), a USB 2.0 device. At least, it's charging at 500mah. Fyi, using the same cable/port, my USB 3.0 external hard drive is registered as a USB 3.0 device.

Adding to this post, the note 3 charges at 1.5Amps. I built my own usb charger and can verify the Amps, it charges at 1.5A on usb 2.0 cable, hacked usb 2.0 cable and USB 3.0. cable.
I can not verify how fast it charges on the Samsung charger or standard PC Usb.
We can assume it charges at 1.5 Amps on the Samsung charger as it is rating for 2.0 Amps
Build you own USB Charging Station
on my note 3, with either the usb 3.0 cable or 2.0 cable from my note 2, it charges at 1.2A...on my note 2, using the 2.0 cable, it charged at 1.8A...i got the current numbers from the Galaxy Charging Current app...

YES. I have a 1.5MAh car charger and a 3Amp car charger (the little cigarette lighter socket ones that fit kinda flush to the socket and the higher Amp one charges MUCH quicker than the single amp (or MAh etc. not sure what it's called but the higher one does charge noticeably faster.

No, clearly NO.
Its a ROM issue.
Some ROMs have USB3 charging enabled and the phone charges all the time with max current.
ECHOE ROM is that one i know.
Omega ROM is the opposite part, charging over USB3 lasts forever.
Its my own experince, imstalled both ROMs, with same PC and same USB3 cable.
I am watching my IP cameras on the phone, on my desk, and with connected USB3 cable the Omega ROM drains battery only from watching.
With Echoe ROM, same phone, same cable, same PC, same cameras, the battery is charging very fast, during watching.
Other custom ROMs i installed have similar issue.
So ask your ROM cook to solve this problem.

Charging Issue via Computer

So I'm not able to use the turbo charger at the moment and have it plugged into the computers USB. I just noticed that its going to take nearly 8 hours to charge..is this normal or is something causing the slow charge?
Sorry just realized I posted this in wrong section.

Computer USB only charges at ~0.5 A. if it's USB 2.0 or ~0.9 A if it's USB 3.0. That's opposed to the turbo charger which charges at well over 2 A.
Computer USB ports only supply 500mA for USB 2.0, or 900mA for USB 3.0. However, almost all Android devices determine whether you're plugged into the wall (AC) or a computer (USB) by whether the data pins are shorted together (as they are in android-compatible chargers -- but not iOS-compatible chargers). If the data pins are intact (or missing, like in most charge-only cables) then the device will charge at 500mA regardless. This is why some people experience slow charging with USB 3.0, or some wall chargers (even those rated for 2A).
Update: Just saw someone beat me to the punch a bit, but wanted to make a correction. Turbo chargers (Quick Charge 2.0) CAN charge at 3A, but the Moto Turbo Charger only charges at 1.6A for both 5V and 9V modes, or 1.2A for the 12V mode. Thus, it's not the amperage that's increased but the power (watts).

No problem. I like to make that correction when I see it, because Quick Charge 2.0 adapters are starting to come out, and it makes it easier to compare them to the (rather expensive) Moto Turbo Charger if know its true specs. For instance, a lot of QC 2.0 adapters don't even have a 12V mode, but run their 9V mode at 1.67A. Since the Moto charger's power is the same in both 9V and 12V modes (14.4W), and the 9V mode of those other chargers actually push 15W, they can charge a bit faster than Moto's charger, although if you just saw the the lack of 12V or the "low" 1.67A rating, you might not catch that.

USB fast charging (kernel)

Some kernels come with USB fast charging as an option that you can toggle. If you use this, does it shorten the battery health long-term ? I'm not referring to turbo chargers (aftermarket), this is just the kernel setting. I recall reading this awhile ago, but I was curious myself.

all it does is increase the voltage coming in when charging via a USB. USB charging voltage is about a quarter/third that of a wall charger. no, no negative affects.
Not at all, even with USB fast charge on it will draw less power than if it were plugged in a regular wall charger or the turbo charger. There's an app called Ampere you can use to monitor how much power the phone draws while charging (or even discharging) you can use it to see the differences between regular usb, fast charge usb, turbo charge, etc.
Ok, that's good to know. Now I can re-toggle the feature and not worry.:good:
What about if it is toggled on and you put it on a regular charger ? Is it still fine ?

if its on and you charge it in a wall outlet, nothing will happen. it will only work on a real USB connection.
Motorola put in support for the Qualcomm rapid charge in the nexus 6.
Read up:
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge
It allows the battery to charge at a higher voltage with USB connections and Qualcomm certified rapid chargers AND a compatible cable. The nexus 6 can still recharge with standard chargers and cables, just at a slower rate regardless of kernel support.
To answer the damage questions: Moto says no damage to the battery as long as certified chargers are used.
Can't you use any standard usb charging cable? (Assuming it's not really long or poor quality)

Battery charging issue since 8.1

Having issues charging with the original charger since 8.1. When I was in beta 8.1 the charger stopped after 5 seconds same when phone off and charging it just kept rebooting to charge screen. So rolled back to 8.0 and all fine. Now have 8.1 again and the charger has stopped working again. My Nintendo switch charger charges phone fine on 8.1. So is there anything I can try to see why 8.1 has stopped orignal Nokia charger Woking ?
The Nokia charger charges the Nintendo switch fine
Same
Same with me .. Need answer from the expert
Yeah same, mine charges now and again ? and at only 1.5amps! Weird because my QC Charger ramps up to 3.0amps!
I bought the phone four days ago, TA- 1004- Global Dual SIM. Immediately updated it to 8.1. From yesterday Nokia's original charger charges the phone only at 1.5A...

Yeah it's werid my phone charges full speed for a bit then slows down to 1.5ah
I believe Ampere is not really accurate together with QC. Used a small USB multimeter once and there you can see that the charging amperage during quick charging is not much higher then about 1.4A.
One of the characteristics of QC is that the voltage during charing is boosted. At 'peak power' the multimeter showed 12V & 1.4A, thus charging at almost 17W instead of the 'normal' 5V & 1.5A (7.5W).
Hi i am new here so forgive me
i have been checking the QC from beggining and it seems at 9V i get 7V and 1.44A and seems its a new type of battery that works this way at 4.3 volts instead of 5v at 1.79 get from other phones with a 4.2 volt battery.
changed charger with 5V 2.1A and it still went up to 1.44 .
i think the default charger is the only one to use.
i get a day and a half with fb and games seems that it doesnt get hot

Agreed, standard charging is at 5V, QC 2 jumps up to at 9V and QC 3 jumps up to 12V but Ampere's voltage reading doesn't seem to reflect these boosted voltages.
My old Samsung S6 (from which I just upgraded to the Nokia 8) says "fast charging" when QC is active vs "cable charging" at 500mA (e.g. when plugged into a very old charger or PC) vs "charging" at other non-QC rates... I had assumed this was an Android feature that the Nokia 8 would have too, but apparently not, which is rather disappointing. Perhaps it's worth a feature request in the official Nokia.com forum for the N8?
---------- Post added at 09:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 PM ----------
Correction: Looking at Ampere again, the voltage appears to refer to the battery, not the incoming power, it only shows the mA for that, not the voltage. So I'll log a feature request for Ampere...
UPDATE: My phone is model TA-1012, I'm currently running Android 8.1.0 with build number 00WW_4_84A_SP03 and I've noticed that the phone DOES tell me if it's quick charging, but only on the lock screen when it's showing notifications, and only as per the following sequence:
1) Directly after plugging in to any charger it says "charging"
2) If it's plugged into a QC2.0 or QC3.0 charger (and using a compatible cable) then after a while (not sure how long exactly, seems to be about 2 mins) this changes to "rapid charging"
3) After another while it changes to "charging (XX mins until full)" or "rapid charging (XX mins until full)" depending on the type of charger (and cable)
However, the phone is supposed to support QC 3.0 but the charging time estimate is always the same no matter whether I use a QC 2.0 or 3.0 charger, which suggests that it's actually a QC 2.0 device.
So i talked with Nokia support about the charging issue. They told me how to fix it...
1. Settings -> apps & notifications -> see all apps -> press the 3 dots in the up right corner -> show system -> battery protection -> storage
-> clear cache and data
2. Soft reset the phone.
How to do a soft reset: Press the Power button and Volume Up until you see "Powered by Android" on the screen. You can then release the buttons . Thats it.
its fast charging , it doesnt fast charge from 0 -100 . it works like this on nokia 8 : from 0-40 3amp , from 40-80 1.5amp , from 80-90 1amp , and decreases slowly from that.
but i have another problem , i dont have original cable and charger , my cable is anker powerline+ and my charger is xiaomi qc3 charger . my problem is that from 0-40 when its fast charging it keeps disconnecting and connecting every 10-15 sec.
BTW u can check your charge status when ur phone is locked (rapid charging = fast charging , charging = normal charging"this is from 80-100" , slow charging = somthing is wrong check ur cable or charger)
