Click to Dial from email or browser - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I used to be able to double tap a number and dial regardless of its locations (gmail, chrome, other apps), now it just brings up a screen that says
Phone Number
+1XXXXXXXXXX
CLOSE - ADD TO CONTACTS
Help is appreciated.

I have the same problem on my 3T. Started occurring after upgrading to Nougat. I've filed a bug report on the OnePlus forum -- let's see how that goes. If you're interested, go to the oneplus site, then Community -> Support -> Bug Reports, then search for "cannot call number from search results".

Default for mail inbox when pressing message icon

Hello
I have 2 little questions that bug me a little bit and which i cant find a solution for (and yes i know where the search button is located ).
Situation 1
When im at the today screen (http://www.cryptex.be/tytn2.jpg) and i press the sms icon (the one in the middle under my clock), it goes directly to the inbox of my sms messages, which is great.
Now when i press the email messages icon (the one on the left under my clock), it doesnt go to the inbox of my emails (which i would like it to do). Instead it shows the menu SMS/MMS - Email example - "my emailaccount" - New email account. So i always have to press "my emailaccount" to go to my inbox. In the options menu i already disabled the option "show account chooser when opening messages" but then i always get redirected to the inbox of my SMS messages.
So in a nutshell, i would like it to go to the appropriate inbox when selecting the icons on the today screen:
- SMS inbox when i press sms icon (which already works)
- mail inbox when i press mail icon (which doesnt work atm)
then question nr2
When im calling the screen always, disables within like 10sec or less, which is very annoying when calling your voicemail and you have to press some numeric options. I always have to turn the screen on.
Maybe someone can point me how i can keep the screen enabled ?
I solved my problems now. By searching in the registry and then hitting the words in the seach option on this forum, i found a solution to both of my problems
I've made myself a little textfile where i keep my registry tweaks now
Its very hard to look for something on forums when you dont know what you actually are looking for, so for those who also want the solution for my 2 problems:
Code:
- Launch the e-mail inbox instead of the account chooser when clicking the mail icon
* Make sure the "E-Mail Sample" account is deleted out of your accounts.
* Make sure Outlook is set up to check your mail (only if using Outlook).
* Edit the registry key HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Home\AlwaysOpenMailFolder
from "1" to "0".
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1658855
Code:
- Prevent Screen Going Off Durning a Call
* Edit the registry key HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
from "1" to "0".
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339309&highlight=EnableFastDormantDisplay
PS: my respect for all the people on the forum putting time and effort to make it possible to do all of this
I wonder if these tweaks could make their way into the next upgrade of Kaiser Tweak? I'm sure many people will find them both really useful.
Rob F
Woops, I've just noticed my device doesn't have a Home folder under HTCHome.
I've done a search for "AlwaysOpenMailFolder" which I don't see to have anywhere else in the registry either.
Should I create the \Home\AlwaysOpenMailFolder key and then set the value? What sort of key is it (e.g. binary, string, dword)?
Many thanks
Rob F
Try this and see if that works

That seems to refer to the HTC Touch app, which I don't have installed.

Just a quick note of thanks for taking the time to document the solutions that you found. I see too many threads where someone tracks down their own fix but they don't take the time to share it for posterity.

I might be misunderstanding your post, so just to clarify: there are people who you can see in the autocomplete To: field for text messaging, but are invisible in the man People app? My best guess is that you've got some contact sources deselected. In the upper left of the People app, hit the button and make sure that you've got the right contact sources checked for sync.
On that same note, if contacts are hidden from showing, why do they get populated in the text message window? For example, I don't want my yahoo contacts syncing with my Google contacts, so I leave yahoo unchecked and never syncs. However, numerous email addresses popup from my yahoo accounts when I start typing someone's name.

HTC put contact search as a different option. Under settings, choose "Search contacts by" and remove whatever you don't want.
Correct,
under my people I don't have Facebook, Gmail, Hotmail or anything checked. I don't want my phone sync with them. I only had numbers to my phone under people or contacts on the check mark I only have Phone contacts checked nothing else.
correct I hit the + to add a person type in the name and number and save it when I'm done I look for that person and they are not to be found when I just added them.

I don't think clearing does anything but hide those contacts from normal view. You're probably still syncing those contacts in (you'd have to check under Settings > Accounts and Sync). My best guess without seeing your phone setup (screenshots might help us out) is that you have your phone set to add contacts to one of the accounts that you have set not to display by mistake, and so they're all winding up in there.

the few people Im talking about is has them with Google / Facebook so it doesn't show them on the phone under contacts. now how do I get them off google and into phone when linked.
that's what I need now
solved the case,
when I click the plus sign to add a contact under it had google I changed it to phone when I added the person and all is good now. what a tuff one. one setting can mess the whole thing up. LOL
thanks everyone.

[How To] Forward Google Voice to Canada without 3rd party apps and for free!

Disclaimer: This may not be the right section for this thread but I didn't know where else to put it. And since I verified this setup on a Nexus 5, I figured this is the best bet.
I stayed in the US for a few years and have an active Google Voice number that my friends in the US call to contact me. Thus, I needed a free method to forward those calls to Canada.
Yes, There are a few of 3rd party apps like GrooveIP that not only let you receive calls but also make calls over data. However, I don't like 3rd party app notifications in my status bar constantly and needed a free solution that would work.
My solution however, only uses the default phone dialer app to receive forwarded calls over SIP.
Step 1
Get yourself a Google Voice number. There are many guides on the internet on how to achieve this via the use of proxies/vpn services.
Step 2
Create a free Sip2Sip account here: https://mdns.sipthor.net/register_sip_account.phtml
Once you receive the confirmation email, Login and go to the ‘Settings’ panel.
Uncheck Reject Anonymous, change the no answer timeout to 60 seconds and uncheck Voicemail Enable. Then click Save at the bottom.
Then click on the ‘Identity’ panel and leave that page open.
Step 3
Open a new browser tab and signup for an IPKall account here: http://phone.ipkall.com/
All the information to be filled out will be available on the ‘Identity’ panel on sip2sip.
Where it says SIP URI Username, enter your username from the account you created on Sip2Sip.
Enter sip2sip.info in the Domain field.
Choose any password and complete the signup.
Wait for IPKall to email you your new number and account info.
Step 4
Go to Google Voice Settings and click to Add a new number.
Choose a name for this number, I named it ‘Ipkall’ to make it easier to recognize. And type in the phone number that Ipkall emailed you. then click save.
More than likely, the IPKall number assigned to you may have already been used earlier by another Google Voice user. It’ll ask you to reclaim that number by verifying it. That’s okay, we’ll get to that in a bit.
Step 5
On your android device, open the Phone dialer and go to settings. Then open ‘Call Settings’.
Scroll all the way down to Internet Call Settings and click on Accounts. Make sure that there is a check mark next to Receive incoming calls. Then click on Add account on the bottom.
Enter your sip2sip username and password in the respective fields. In the server field, enter sip2sip.info. Then uncheck set as primary account and click on Optional Settings. Under outbound proxy address, enter proxy.sipthor.net
Then click save and wait for it to register. Once done it should say Receiving Call under “[email protected]”.
That’s it, go back to Google Voice settings and reclaim the IPkall number assigned to you. If you didn’t have this issue then you are already set to go.
Place a few test calls to your Google Voice Number and check to see if they’re being forwarded to your Phone over SIP.
BONUS: You can also use this setup to get Google Voice to connect you to US phone numbers for free. Visit the Google Voice website, enter the phone number you'd like to call and choose your ipkall number as the phone to connect with. OR you could get a Google Voice call back app to do this on your phone.
So doing this I can call and receive calls anywhere free of charge and not using any data?

As long as you are on wifi, there's no charge and no use of your data.
When you're not on wifi, this method will use data but not your minutes.

No good for Cuba.
For Canadian users want to use mobile air time minutes instead of data, I would recommend Voxox instead. Voxox will let you have an telephone number in southern California, United States for free which can forward incoming calls via PSTN to any telephone number in Canada or United States for free. You do not even have to install their app. It is a lot simpler to setup, but again, it use your mobile voice minutes instead of data.
Interesting I may give this a shot thanks!

"Select contact to share" bug with Marshmallow (MM)

When in Gallery and viewing a picture, if the share button is selected and then Messages is selected, instead of the normal behavior of attaching the picture to a message and opening the message in edit mode, a popup appears which says "Select contact to share" which offers the two choices between new contact or existing contact.
If existing contact is selected however it does not allow to select between alternate phone numbers or e-mail addresses for the contact and will automatically use the default number (or e-mail).
A suggested solution was that it is related to Voice over LTE setting which can be disabled in the dialer app.
Have seen posts on other forums about this and it appears to be on T-Mobile only devices. I'm also suspicious if perhaps it could be related to T-Mobile somehow trying to track who you are sending messages to? It wouldn't surprise me as they seem to be doing other creepy things like tracking all websites you visit.
Why would they need to do this to track who you're sending to? You send anything from your phone and it's easily tracked.

Question How to get +1 to stop showing up on phone numbers from text messages.

I am having a interesting issue with my phone that I cannot figure out. When I receive a text message the system adds a +1 to the start of the phone number it is coming from, I am using the Samsung Messages application but this does the same thing apparently with the Google SMS app and the Verizon messenger app (as I have\ tried these as well), this only happens with a text and if I get a phone call or look in the address book no numbers have a +1.
The reason this is an issue is because my car imports my phonebook as it appears in the contacts and when I get a text it comes up as Unknown Caller because of the added +1 but phone calls do not have the +1 so they show up just fine.
While working on this I have discovered that if I go to the text by going to my contacts then clicking on the persons name it will remove the +1 and it will stay removed as I text them but the second I get texted back the +1 is added. I called Verizon eventually and was told reset settings, reset network settings, turn off assisted dialing. None of these work and there next solution was to factory reset, I don't think this will help because it isn't just my phone but my wife and son who also got the same phone have the same thing happen.
Has anyone experienced this and know how to fix it. I have been through all the phone and dev settings looking for something. I cannot find any other threads online for this except for a couple from AT&T users from different samsung phones years ago with no answer. Previous to this we were using Note 9's and did not have this issue. Any help is appreciated.
edit: The phone is not rooted or modded and is on Android 11 One UI 3.1, sorry forgot to add that.
I think it's under: Settings -> Call Settings -> Other call settings -> Roaming assistance

That is assisted dialing I turned off already and it didn't affect it. It's also just on text messages phone functions don't have this happen for some reason.
The +1 is your coumtry code prefix (USA).
While you can change this in your messaging app you can't change it from eveyone else's phone.
From using it in your car radio might be somethng in your car settings or else in your contact list add the +1 to all your contacts.

I understand that the +1 is the country code.
It isn't from other people's phones it is the way the Ultra is handling the information when it comes to text messaging. I did the following test. I removed my son as a contact in my phone and called my phone from his. The phone number shows up as (xxx) xxx-xxxx. I then sent a text message to myself from his phone while he still was not in my contacts. I have 3 different text applications on my phone right now for testing purposes (default Samsung, Google's SMS app, and Verizon Messeages) and all 3 shows the phone number as +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx.
The car isn't adding the the +1 to contacts, when my phonebook syncs to the car and I go into it the phonebook on my cars display they show the same as in my contacts "Contacts Name" (xxx) xxx-xxxx but when a text comes in it shows Unknown +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx.
The issue solely lies with text messages being received on the S21 Ultra as this happens when people on Apple phones or Android phones (multiple brands) text me.
In regards to text messaging in general, i live not far from you ( about 9500 miles ) and I have a different device then yours. Receiving text messages from someone in my contacts list shows up contact name. Receiving other text message not in my contact list will show as country code and phone number. There are exceptions to this in regards to texts from government agencies and google which will show up who are not in my contacts list. I think texts messaging work around the international standard ie: country code + phone number while phone calls may not (unless making international calls). So i don't think it's device specific as it more to do with the networks that you connect to.
In regards to talking to you car ( text wise ) i may be of little help as i don't have a android 11 device and a car to talk to.
Since your note 9 works, and as far as i know latest version is android 10, it could be an issue with android 11. From your test using your son's phone have tried to add the +1 to his number to your phone and see if it's make a difference.
