I haven't seen a general case thread, so I'd thought I'd float out the question. I've just seen a few reviews. I like the Nexus 5x since it is smaller than most phablets, but I also would like a slim case. Currently I have the black ringke slim which is nice, but a fingerprint magnet and no bump protection. I ordered a TPU which I might end up using since it at least offers some drop protection.
Trying to balance the size of the phone plus the case can be somewhat difficult. Plus a lot of cases out there are CLEAR which is probably the worst design as it yellows or shows scratches.....I've seen some that are decent which I would have bought had they been smoke, but generally I don't buy clear. I've considered running the phone naked too, but I just got it not too long ago and rather not do that at least until I've had it for some time and considering a replacement.
I am pretty happy with the SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle. It looks nice and the grip is good. I have dropped my phone several times now on tile floor or asphalt without damaging it. This case probably won't protect from the worst falls as well as some of the heavy duty cases, but overall it's a good package.

I'm a fan of the Tudia slim cases and recently, the Diztronic slim
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I recently picked up the new Verus 5X case. The second version fixed all the flaws from the original, and looks very nice, very clean. Not bulky (probably the most important aspect to me), tactile buttons (also a major point personally), it has a slightly raised edge around the camera ring, and slides nicely into my pocket. I've dropped my phone numerous times from various heights onto carpet, concrete, and asphalt. So far the only damage it's sustained is a hairline crack in the tempered glass screen protector. And by hairline, I mean I only noticed when it caught the light a certain way one day. They are temporarily unavailable on Amazon, but can be found other places.
The Diztronic slim fit is a solid slim case that provides pretty good protection. Also like the Incipio dual pro which isn't slim bit doesn't add too much bulk and adds extra protection (military drop tested).

2nd on Versus case, it feels very premium and slim. Because the 5X feels cheap this case actually makes the phone look better and more expensive imo. Moderate protection as well.

Versus looks good, how thick is it ? I prefer to keep the Nexus logo hidden with a case so ppl look at it trying to figure out what phone I have and dont know. I got a cheap Chinese TPU one that is actually well-fitted and was only $5.00.
I'm using Ringke Fusion and i'm very satisfied with it
+1 on the Versus, doesn't add much to phone, looks good, gives some protection, makes a slippery phone easier to grip and hold.
I'm also using Ringke Fusion (Smoke) and found it very good. It gives excellent protection and doesn't look so bulky. The only issue I faced was the headphone pin getting blocked halfway by the case. One should apply force and press it hard to fit it properly.

Okay all the cases are now here, I have 4 to compare in total, the Nilkin I got a while back which is now busted from the fall but still useful to compare.
Anyway, here we go. The dimensions listed below are in relation to the gauge I'm using, it's not been calibrated so is slightly out so I've measured the Note II, please use that instead of the official dimensions - If that makes sense.
I received the Tech21 and Flexishield from Gearzap.

Thoughts
Nillkin (Under £10):
Looks and feels the best of the lot and is also the thinnest. Ultimately it offers the least protection as I have found just this very week and the half mm chip from my bezel/screen edge will forever remind me of this. As careful as I am with our things things, accidents do indeed happen sadly. The Nillkin has excellent grip.
All of the buttons are very easy to press, no obstructions or issues.
Flexishield (£9.99):
This one is quite flexible and offers some impact protection around all edges. It looks the cheapest though and feels like an eBay case. It does the job but won't make a phone like the Note II, something that otherwise looks very professional, any favours for style. Not as grippy as the Nilkin but still easy to hold and not worry about slipping.
The power and volume buttons on this case don't give enough feedback. It's hard to tell if you've pressed a button or not through it.
Samsung Protection+ (£14.99):
This looks quite good and doesn't make the Note 2 ugly. It feels good as well and has a slightly bigger screen lip for protection. The back is all glossy and because of that I found fingerprints and smudges plastered all over it even with the lightest touch. It will also get that cobweb look over time as it's hard plastic. I feel it offers better all round protection than the Flexishield but it is a bit thicker than the Nilkin.
Grip levels aren't as good as the Flexishield on this sadly because the surround is soft flexible plastic but not matte enough to have decent enough grip. The glossy back helps here though as it's not slippery and your palm sticks to it in a way during use.
All buttons have excellent feedback using this, I was able to press buttons to change track through my front jacket pocket on the way home from work without fail. Samsung have put more effort into this case unlike the Flexishield and others like it.
Tech21 (£14.99):
This looks good and feels good but offers no grip, the whole case is course matte plastic except for the absorption pads on the inside. I've seen youtube videos of how this material reacts to impacts with impressive results.
The Tech21 is a bit thicker than the Nilkin but protects the side bezel only like the Nillkin and equally like it, there are no issues pressing any buttons. This case sits tighter around the phone as well and combined with those pads should hopefully mean it doesn't ping off in the event of an accident.
For some reason I prefer this case over the Nilkin now. Even though it's less grippy I like the way it feels and those absorption pads may become useful.
Price comparison please? Just a thought. Adding it into the review wouldn't hurt.

LUVVITT® CLEARVIEW HTC One M8 Case Clear View | Scratch-Resistant Hybrid Slim Transparent Case/Cover
$5.95 - Amazon (Less Shipping)
Overall the case is what it is. Fit is good except for the top and bottom lips on the screen side but it's not that bad. There are manufacturing seams on the sides but you can't really feel them. The charging port cutout was a little off but I fixed it with a xacto knife. Before the fix I'd have to move the case a little to get the connector to plug completely in. There is what I'm calling a manufacturing defect on the bottom near the charging port. Not sure if this would be present on all of these cases or it's just on mine. No big deal, I'm not looking to win a beauty contest.
The IR blaster works. I've not notice the "flash flare" some have reported with other clear cases. It say scratch resistant but I've not used it enough to tell it that is true or not. The case feels "grippy" in your hand but not enough to snag in your pocket. The back of the case seems like a little harder material than the sides. It goes on and off easily. There is no cutout for the SIM or SD slots so the case will have to be removed to change those. The volume rocker is completely covered so there is minor protection there. I will report back on scratching and yellowing seen in many of these clear cases
If you are looking for a minimal case for $6 you can't go wrong. I'm just using it at work and when I'm out and about as I like the naked feel of this phone and take it off when I'm at home.
My brother bought a Spigen® clear case. It seems to offer a little more protection at the price of bulk. They are comparable but I prefer this one as it feels a little less bulky. Hope this helps.

ADDED CONTENT:
FYI
Well I've only really used this case for 2 days (first two days back to work after receiving the case) and I just noticed a pretty good scratch on the back of the case. There are also some very small scratches that are hard to see unless you hold it at just the right angle.
I'm not concerned becasue this is why I bought a case. I'm reporting this as the marketing for this case says it's scratch resistant which it is clearly not. I'd expect more than 2 days of use before seeing any significant scratches. Oh well, for $6 I'm happy and it's almost a disposable item if it gets really bad.
Added Content:
Afer a few weeks of use I can say this case is working just fine. I've never had a clear case so I'm not sure how long it takes to discolor but this one is still as clear as the day I put it on. I like to go naked when I'm at home and this case is easy to take off and put back on. The big scratch pictured above is still the only big scratch it has. There are a bunch of small scratches that can only be seen if held at the right angle. So far I am very pleased with this case that I might not even get a Skinomi or other wrap at this time. I have yet to drop my phone with this on (don't hold your breath, I treat this thing like a baby) so Not sure how it would protect if it hit on concrete or another hard surface. I think it would help a little. This case has not scratched the phone and I've not noticed any dirt getting between it and the phone. Whenever I put the case on I use my microfiber cloth to clean the case and the phone before installation.

Looks like a case that resemble the case I got from my m8 box. Looks pretty glossy.

Great review.. I use this one: Ultra 0.5mm Slim Soft TPU Skin Clear new Case Transparent Cover But you need to buy a dozen or so, if you don't like scratches. This case will scratch up pretty bad.
Great review, that thing in the picture you don't know is probably a remnant of a tab gate. When the injection molding/extrusion happens the plastic goes through the gate, then they break it off of the runner when cured.

Have you guys tried the Baseus Ultra Thin Clear TPU Case? Best looks imo, at the expense of less protection
Ok guys.. It's to bad that I had to purchase 5 cases before I found the right one. Maybe this will help someone who's looking for that right case.
Simple review... I'm basically looking for Grip, Protection, Fit, and Functionality. I've ordered all my cases from Amazon and prices very, however I've not spent over $12 for any one case.
If you are looking for something specific let me know.

I'll start with the best Vena Legancy. The grip is good, not the best , but it has a nice soft feel, the curve and fit in the case is perfect, the kickstand isn't cheap and works well, and the protection seem solid. The only con hard to get on and off. This also came with a screen protector that looked pretty good.

This circle case worked perfect, the grip and fit was good, the protection was there for a flip case. This case had a good tilt when you flipped it back on itself, kind of like a kickstand. The apps worked great, the wireless charging was slow. I just couldn't get into the circle apps. Getting it on and off was a job.

This was a slim TPU case, I liked the feel and fit. The grip was definitely there, the plastic edge was to hard, and I could see it starting to scratch the top where it wraps around and meets the glass, plus the protection just wasn't there for me and the area around the cam wasn't aggressive enough for me to feel like the lens wouldn't get scratched when laying flat.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YRSF6PK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
This case had the best aggressive grip out of the bunch, the fit and feel was there. The cut out's were good however the hard plastic didn't fit around the hybrid part, nice and slim for a hybrid case. I liked the way it meet the screen protector, and I rolled with this case for months. I liked the protection all around. It was easy on and off. The outside of my lens on my cam got dented while using this case.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016CXW79A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
I saved the worst for last, I only paid $7 for this case and it got really good review on amazon. The plastic on this was cheap, the grip was just OK, the kickstand felt like it was going to break off, the protection and fit was good, but it took the curve out of the phone. If you need a belt clip, protection and want to get rid of the curve, then this is the case. One thing i did like about this case was the rubber was really soft.
Thanks for the reviews.
Thanks for the reviews. I've been looking at the Tudia Ultra Slim, Caseology Wavelength (more expensive), and also the Aomax Armor, but I didn't even know about the Vena Legacy with the kickstand. I think the kickstand can be a very useful feature, but it can't be a cheap piece of plastic that is just going to break off or dangle loosely. One of my old phones actually came with a separate little kickstand that I use still, but I am not sure it will work well with the curvature of the G4 backing (and I am looking at getting a G4 now). So you think the built-in kickstand is built to last? And the case maintains pretty good and comfortable grip?
Thanks again for the reviews

I receive ArmadilloTek series case for free to provide my feedback.
This is such a great case and I'm happy I gave it a chance. If you're looking for a rugged case, no need to spend twice as much or more for the bigger name brand. This one arrived nicely packaged with a "handwritten" note from the owners of the company. The case itself is 2 pieces and fits my S21 Ultra perfectly. I even have a LOCA glue glass screen protector and the case works great with it. The stand seems durable and works in both portrait or landscape for hands free viewing. The sides of the case are nice and grippy. The case overall is very well made and feels good in the hand. In the house I keep my phone in a minimalist case, but this one will no doubt be the case I slip my expensive phone into when I'm out and about.
Pros
1. Package and material
- Very well package and premium material
2. Design and fit
- I like the design. It is rugged case but not to bulky . The most important thing is the case feel very comfortable when i am holding it.
- Case fit perfectly with the phone. All cutout are precise , well design .
- Kickstand in the back very helpful. i can use the phone in both landscape and portrait mode.
- Volume and power buttons are on point. They are protrude out just enough to provide you a good feedback when you press them.
- The edge along the screen and around camera are raised off enough to protect the phone .
Cons
It does add some bulk, guess it is the paid price.
I recommend this case for people with kids, people work in construction and who workout outdoor a lot.
When it comes to protection, I always buy Otterbox cases, here. They are expensive, but the protection will always be flawless, it'll last you a lifetime (i still have my HTC HD2 with an otterbox case in perfect shape)
I've been using the Zizo Bolt for 10+ for over a year. Easy to hold, clean, slender, with 2/3 layered protection and it can take a hard drop onto concrete.
It's done an excellent job and shows no wear. The catch for the kick stand broke after about 6 months but I use it a lot. I get a new case anyway after a couple hard corner hits to be on the safe side; to guard against unseen material fatigue.
$20 a pop is chump change... the 10+ is not.
On the 10+ it has a much more raised cam guard and no tempered glass screen protector. Not sure on the new model if that will be an issue or not. Using the screen protector is probably optional though.

The Samsung silver case is from my pre order credit and came from Samsung.com.
My initial response, you kinda get what you pay for.
My favorite among all them is the UAG case and that is what I am using as my daily case.
I chose this because it was smaller than any of the other cases which gave what I consider 'great' protection both on the sides and front and back.
The Ringke comes in second as the best value.
The Poetic is just too large, you will see in the photos it is the largest of them all, but it is the only one that comes with a screen protector which was kinda nice.
The Armadillotek is a great option, but since the phone is already so large in my hand - the UAG was a tad smaller and felt more comfortable.
The Samsung case lacks the raised edges I would like to see in drop protection on the front.
The Anemat also lacked raised edges for safety.
Lined them up on edge to show heigh of all units, the Poetic and Armidillo are the tallest.
Side grips are nice, the phone is large and anything to keep in settled in my hand was a bonus.
I guess for a 1300 phone I had to bite the bullet and get a 50 dollar case, vs the 10 and 20 dollar options.
I did like the ArmidilloTek for the few days I used it, but the UAG just ended up being more comfortable for me personally.
Not sure this will help anyone, but it does, I hope I saved you having to return stuff back to Amazon
I plan to put on the gel UV glass screen protector sometime next week, I just left the stock protector on for the time being.
Love the phone though and the promo with TMO really made it a no brainer.
I also settled for the UAG Monarch, it's a premium but it's better than the imitators.
I choose ArmadilloTek because of the front cover.
I like the paint on Monarch tho
Nice, thanks for this review.
the orange case looks neat
I'm currently switching between UAG Monarch (same color as OP) and Samsung's Black Leather Cover, and I'm glad about my choices. Sometimes if I want that my S21U should feel more bulky I go with UAG, other time if I want to have more elegant and slick cover I'm using the leather one.

too pricy here in TX
I just ordered a UAG Monarch tonight as I've just gotten my phone today. Verizon wants $70,so I got it directly from UAG for under $35. Tried it and it feels really good in the hand. Bought the S21U with a techarmor case and there is barely any protection for rear camera. Pelican also feels really good in the hand but also no real camera protection
