I've got a strange one where when connecting a Z3C to the aux input on my Ford Falcon there is a loud crackling noise from the car speakers.
I've tested with other phones like iphones and samsungs and the sound is clean without issues.
Tried connecting a friend's Z3C and the issues occurs same as when I connect.
I have tried different aux cables and played with the settings on the phone and the car but can't seem to resolve this weird one.
Can anyone shed some light on what else I can try please?
Does the crackling noise stops when you start playing something?
no it does not and is quite audible throughout, playing fm or aux via any other phone seems to be ok.
What firmware are you running? It could be possible if you are running MM there is a bug with that or something similar so try downgrading to Lollipop or KitKat
Turn the connector back and forth in the socket, probably your contacts are dirty. Did u use phone e.g. under water?

I had the issue on lollipop stock and now upgraded to MM stock and the issue still exists.

I don't think it is the connector as i can hear clear when using headphones or connecting to other speakers via aux. Also the fact that the same issue occurs when i connect another Z3c belonging to a friend of mine
Any other ideas?

Maybe sxchange the AUX cable...
Still try twisting back and forth, had the sane issue on mine, and somehow it depedet also on what I connected. An amplifier connected via a bad contact is different from a passive headphone.

Cleaned the headphone jack and also tried a new aux cable made by belkin and its still noisy as ever. When twisting back and forth the crackling intensifies and if i keep doing it the music on the phone pauses.
That's correct. if the phone thinks that the headphone is disconnected, then the player goes on pause. I could solve by twsting, but it might be that your hardware has contact issues as well (read that this happens, connector somehow broken)
I also observed mainly on an AUX cable that was a not so good one (connector) but it's now working again, so I guess I had luck.
If cleaning does not help, several cables have issues, then worst case you need to send to repair for replacing or resoldering the Headphone Jack..
This will solve the problem
AUKEY Ground Loop Noise Isolator for Home Audio and Car Stereo System with 3.5mm Aux Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L1NP7YI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KwqLybTYDSP5Q
Not necessarily this one, but it's the one I've been using for the past 3 years and haven't had any issues since.

My wife has a Lumia 920. She's tried 2 different headphones and each has the same problem. If the jack is pushed all the way into the 920's port, the headphones do not connect properly. There is no audio in the headphones. Pulling the jack out of the port ever so slightly makes the connection and the audio is heard.
We're going to try a third set of headphones on her 920 and go to an AT&T store to try another 920 but I'm beginning to think this is a problem with this particular unit. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

Only had the issue with the original headphones, not a different brand/kind. Called Nokia and they told me to go to the place I bought it at ..

we have two 920's and I tried three different sets of headphones (over ear, and in ear). There is no problem with connection to my Sennheiser and when I plug it into the phone it makes a noticeable click at the last stage of insertion. However, it seems not as tight with my Logitech and I can see that some may have problems. When I press the connector into the jack it disconnects sound, but as soon as I let go it's fine.
if I had the same problem you wife is experiencing I would probably return it.
edit:
I noticed that it is rather tough to push it all the way in. The last stage only snaps in with some more force. If you see any metal from the connector then it is not all the way in. In this state it's rather erratic depending on how far it's in.
Just wanted to check is anyone else is finding that headphones plugged into this jack often are not picked up by the phone and the speaker is used instead.
Happens both with my car AUX and my in ear Klipsch earphones, although if I jiggle the plug it sometimes works. The bundled headphones (MH750) so not seem to suffer this problem.
Is this a widespread problem or an issue with my handset?
the MH750 has 3 rings on the jack as a opposed to the 2 rings on the connector for your other headphones am I right? Having the extra ring on it (meant for the remote) may be what is adding the extra tightness when inserted. I'm not sure how to solve your AUX problem but you may need to try headphones which have a built in remote like the MH750 so that it has the extra ring on the connector. This may also be a defect, as I can not confirm since my device is still on it's way.
EDIT : After receiving the phone this happened to me once. You have to play around with the smart connect settings o disable it all together. It doesn't seem to be hardware related.
i have the same problem here .

When I plug the car's "aux in" 3.5 mm cable to the jack on my Moto X, the audio plays through the phone speaker instead of the car's audio system. This only happens with one of my two cars, and I haven't had this issue with any other audio source. Maybe the jack on my Moto X doesn't like this particular plug, or maybe there's a setting I need to change? Anyone have this issue? I could work around this using bluetooth but my cars are too old

probably just the plug. you sure it is making a solid connection? are you running it naked or could the case be getting in the way. You could also just get a connector for the audio jack that just extends it like an inch and try plugging that cable into the phone.
I'm not sure it's the jack, because the same thing happens to me at random times. Usually at work of course, and I use the same headphones every day.

You already did all of the troubleshooting and solved it yourself.
2 cars
2 cables
Only happens in one. Variable? Cable in car A or B. Bring the cable from the car that works to the car that doesn't work. Test.

I used to listen to my songs using the AUX input with my Xperia Z1 in my car radio. But now, (I don't know if this ahve to do with upgrading to .757) it won't play and it says that the headphone isn't compatible. I'm just using a P2-P2 cable plugged in my AUX car's radio input and in my Z1 phone output
That is impossible. That cable have nothing sophisticated to tell to the phone that isn't compatible and the jack have audio out only. I use that system too in my car to listening Unz, Unz, Unz, and nothing strange jet. Somehow you have to get rid of that notification.

It works with my xperia neo. Also, neo's headset dont worlk with z1, but thats because they have microphone and the ground ring was changed in 2011+ xperia phones...
I can't plug my Z1 into my Makita site radio, it doesn't play anything through the AUX, although the phone seems to think it's got headphones plugged in. Tried a few cables, some newer and some older with no variation in results.

Hi! I was trying to connect my mi 9 to my car but i get a noise when the music is playing. It is like you hear the fizzz from the radio. I tried several cables and conectors (usb-c to jack) but it doesnt works. I tried with my old mi note 3 and works without problem. Someone have the same problem?
PD: my xiaomi's noise cancelling usb-c headphones works correctly.

My girlfriend was experiencing the same thing with her phone audio via aux in her car. I researched the issue and got her this which worked a treat:

Worth a try to hopefully reduce/eliminate that noise
