An observation I made with big cores shut down - Sprint LG G4

So first im sorry for rambling.
So im tryng to find a kernal editor that will actually stick when i change clockspeeds and such.
Ive tried 3c, synapse, loads of em. every time i reboot settins stil show enabled but watching the clocks ****s maxxin out just like it would modified.
Im using kernal auditor rite now of coarse no uc clock speeds are sticking, but i noticed that i very easily can shut down my big core and theyre both staying shut down. unkess i reboot.
stock kernal set to permissive with supossed system read write.
So my battery savings in 1 day alone have trippled my battery is gettin old but shes always held good charge but last couple days shes been lagging to make it throught the day. Been off charge for 8 hours now and im at like 89 %
it is winter here in vermont and pretty nippy here last week couple highs of a wonderful 3 and 5 degrees f. I know its gonna run cooler but i seem to have cut my cpu temp by 20 degrees c when im cranking on wifi surfing doin what i do. loadin it up
she still gets warm even with thermal paste 40c max..... I saw 18 and 22c earlier wile heavy browsing compare to 3 days ago of 40 or 45
HAPPY BELATED BDAY TO MY G4 she turned 1 year 2 days ago and running strong 3 screens later sold 3 times
lol shes gettin old almost time to get the old shoebox out and take her out back
Basicly im wonderin if anyones found any good kernal tuners or is this somthing i need in a init d script to fully diable the big cores through a reboot never once even turning on ????

Best Radio Rom for Battery life?

Anyone who's seen me in Rom threads probably knows that I usually ask the question about battery life, its like one of my obsessions... I want a phone that does a lot, but gets the most battery life too, probably not a winning combination, but it all helps!
I read on one thread that someone was using a radio version 1.10 and found it gave them better battery life then the new 1.13 with no loss of signal / gps.
Anyone got any thoughts?
1.13 radio
i just upgraded the radio in my hd to the new 1.13 from 1.09 and feel that the battery is a little better than before. i also currently running kwbr topix 1.0.1 wm6.1 rom. today will be the first full with that combo. i'll get back to you tomorrom on how the consumption is.
Have been using 1.13 since release and found no issues at all.
I am using Duttys 2.9 ROM and am getting 2.5 - 3 days of reasonably heavy use. Before i was getting 2 max before
Battery life sucks for me.....
2-3 days of battery life with heavy use.... i cannot even imagine getting that on my phone.
I dunno whats wrong with my phone .
I just updated to the new rom and radio from htc website.
Also, have disabled, wifi, data connections, active sync... all the stuff that take the juice out.
Also i am in NA, so also disabled 3g.
My setting are set manually for backlight and it is at the third point from the left.
I also have screen turn-off in 1min as well as switch off in 4 min.
In terms of program, i have pocket shield and incall touch lock program.
No after charging the battery to full.
This is wat i get,
Talk time- 30-45 min.
Music - 120 min. (S2P2 player)
Wifi - 10 min.
Now after almost 30 hrs.
battery is showing jst one bar.
==================================
Am sure what usage i mentioned above is definitely cannot be termed as heavy.
Let me know, if someone can help me to improve my battery life.

I'd do this too, its best to start with a rom, see battery life first without installing anything, then add bits one by one and you can usually eliminate the culprit!
Re: Barety life
What?
I have HTC Touch HD half year and batery never last more then 30 hrs with oficial ROM and clever use!
With my wifi on all the time... i never cross 24hrs

i use the music player for about 2 hour's a day and use the phone for about 1-2 hours and i am nearly always on the net with it as well.
edit: @drgopoos, WiFi eats battery like you wouldn't believe so no wonder you dont get more than 24hrs. I once had WiFi on and plugged the phone in to sync with my PC and the battery still went down. What happens if you dont use WiFi. Surely you dont need it 24/7?
I too am in the same boat, can't really stretch much past half a day with a bit of music, websurfing and the occasional email. No WiFi, only 3G. I've loaded a few apps (TomTom, CorePlayer and PHM Regedit) and don't have Exchange or anything active. Running Dutty V3.6 XT and radio 1.14.25.24.
Watch your power settings! My sat-nav program turned off the "turn off device after xxx mins" option in there. I could hardly reach 24 hours with one charge since the device never really turned off. This was really annoying e.g. when a reminder popped up at night, or when the phone was out of my reach.
After I realized that and set my option properly (screen 30 secs/power off after 1 min) my device lasts at least 2 days with normal use and even 3-4 days at light use.
I use radio 1.14.25.24 on Duttys 3.4 XT

A-ha. I am getting 2 weeks with extremely heavy use.
Brightness is set to 100%, Wi-Fi and BT are always on. And I talk 24 hours a day also.
mine always have some strange consumption of power when I leave it through the night
before I go to bed it would be around 50% but when I wake up (5 hours later without running any programs of course) it drop to Battery very low
I'm using Radio 1.14, when I was on 1.13 I'm not experience that problem
I got the feeling that the newer radios use more battery. I've just downgraded to version 1.09.25.14, which I think was the original one that came with the phone. I will let you know my experience with that.

Even with stock rom I would get no where near this, and I doubt anyone else would. I've used all Throys roms and yes it may be possible to get battery usage to maybe 2 - 2.5 days when left on standby but with heavy use!!! Extremely doubtful.......what do you classify as heavy use? Leaving it alone on standby locked in the cellar so no one can touch it!!
god, i'm happy when i make it through the day, meaning 12-16h without recharging, little to no music, hour or 2 msn, some net, normal call/sms, few weather updates....best i got was about 36h on Lost In Asia v5, generally Titanium seems to drain less then Manila :/
i could see getting 3 days if i buy 2 more batteries....or never unplug it from my laptop/socket :/

only two weeks ??? Your battery is probably broke !
Lil feedback with Lost in asia V5 and radio 1.14.25.24
around 36 h with heavy use
around 48 h with normal use
But i noticed that 4 things eat a lot my battey:
-when i check my mail and when the connection is bad ...
-when my HD is connected to my pc by usb
-when i'am in subway because sometimes it's edge, sometimes HSDPA etc...
- Wifi of course !
By the way, manila eat more battery than titanium...

never had these benefits...
perhaps you have a battery plus, or a special hd
I have suffered with battery life as well... Can never get past a day to be honest & I have tried almost every ROM from here including WM6.1 & 6.5. I use my phone mostly for music, little bit of gaming and web surfing. It is connected to net all the time though, because I have unlimited data plan. I normally leave home at 8:30 in the morning & till then the phone stays plugged in with the charger over night.
On the way to work and back I listen to music with normal 3.5mm headphone & sometimes play xtract or watch movie. The journey time is around 40 mins each way. I actively surf internet for around 15mins during break, not every day though. My emails get automatically downloaded after every 2 hours from 4 different providers. AND THAT'S ABOUT IT.
By the time I get home at around 6 in the evening the battery level is generally at around 65% and I consider this as light use.
Is there any chance to improve it?! I don't wanna buy those huge batteries which shatters the sexyness of the device.

Does my battery suck or what?

I reset my battery stats 2 days ago after doing a full charge and drain and full charge again my battery is at 94% after 1 hour. My time without signal is only 3%, phone idle is 42%, and only 15 minutes without sleeping. Does this sound normal or am I being anal?
Sent From My Hero!
That kind of sounds like mine. Extrapolating the percentage loss over time for me almost always yields a rate of about 100%/24 hours discharge, +/- 3 hours depending on use. I've always been concerned about the battery, especially after hearing so many people saying they get almost 48 hours on a single charge with moderate/heavy use
My battery is new. My Hero is less than a month old, but I haven't put on a custom ROM yet. I think a custom ROM and kernel is supposed to help. Mine is rooted and running SetCPU with profiles. I found that whenever my phone felt hot (which is a lot of the time, actually), it's usually an indication that battery is draining fast. I also read many peoples' Hero's run very cool, and don't get that warm when charging. Mine can get pretty warm when charging, close to 40C, and 42-43C when using while charging. These observations have caused me to wonder if my battery is bad, or if newer Heros are somehow different from old ones. Does this sound like yours?
I've learned that the battery usage is not linear.
So dont' worry about 1 hr sampling of your battery, use a minimum of 4-6 hrs and if it still losing 5%/hour after that w/out much use, then you may have an issue, but I wouldn't worry about it.
I'm using Crunchy's buufed rom with the OC'd kernel. My temp stays pretty even but I did add auto memory manager yesterday. I wonder if that's contributing.
Sent From My Hero!
I just figured it out. The stock sms is still locking up the dialer and keeping the phone awake. I figured that was fixed in these custom roms. So I disabled all notifications on stock sms and downloaded handcent. All is well.
Sent From My Hero!
I believe your aren't supposed to use things like autokiller and auto memory manager with an Oc'd rom.
I agree on the task manager but I thought the memory manager would tweak the built in settings from conservative to aggressive. Am I wrong?
Sent From My Hero!
It still does that but I've read posts by devs saying not to use autokiller with and overclocked rom, I don't understand why either but that's what it said.
Thanks for the heads up!

No problemo.

Another battery moaning thread

I have read a load of threads relating to the battery life, but this is slightly different. I'm on jm1 official and have been for weeks, its was fine until a day ago, now I'm sitting at work, watching the battery percentage go down everytime i look at it, I'm now talking about now when I'm using 3g, just when phones idle.
I went to sleep last night and unplugged phone before I did, fully charged. Woke up and it was on 94%....
Really my question is, is there any way to find out what's using all my battery apart from the built in function which seems to only refresh every hour! I'm not looking for juice defender or such apps

Spare parts can give you, sometimes, some rough approximations. Really, if you started experiencing issues one day, you should try to remember what you downloaded most recently, it might be poorly coded and you should look to replace it with competing software.
Also, there are somethings you wouldn't want to intentionally or unintentionally leave running in the background. Use task manager (not ATK cuz it doesn't track "running" processes very well unless they've updated) to find out if anything is running. Even the marketplace will run in the background and not let your phone properly sleep.
Also, 6 percent seems about right. 2% for all services and 3g off, 6% for 3g? I'll have to look into it when I'm not on my phone. Especially if you dress your batteries by running them down to 0s%, this is bad to do to li-on batteries, I don't know how long it takes to feel the effects but short cycles are better for the batteries health.
Ok, 3g is never on at my house I can't get it there anyway.
The only reason I run it down to 0% is because I'm using my phone and it doesn't last, its stupid to say use it in low cycles because then I'm really only getting 20% battery life anyway...
I have advanced task manager but don't really use it from what ive read I shouldn't have to. And I had thought about the recent apps I've installed and I have installed nothing much new apart from angry birds
Just not happy with the noticeable change in the space of a few days.

If consumers keep "living" with things then they deserve the crap they get. As a consumer, you have the right to be heard so make sure the people you're giving your hard earned cash to is taking your feedback and providing products and services for YOUR needs, not the company's needs.
I'm loosing 10% every night too. It's a joke and I'm hoping the updates will improve it somewhat.

ye i know. but funny thing is, it's rather random. with the same settings and nothing changed at all. sometimes overnight, it drops close to none. and some nights, it drops 10%.
i've lost 10% over 4 hours today with no usage (idle) so lol. i'm glad i'm at least getting 2 days worth of usage.
let's hope this famous froyo does something. sometime soon...
Make sure all applications are dead (ie. use samsung task manager).
Turn off apn (so that you can guarantee no apps are using data).
If you do those two things, I'm sure you won't lose more than 5% overnight.
Personally, if I do that, I don't lose more than 1% overnight.
maybe it's due to over-flashing and all. de-calibrates the battery or whatever. either way, meh.
i've probably only got this calender widget refreshing itself every 12 hours to update the day's events and my Google account on active sync. maybe some applications screwing up somewhere.
to point out, a fresh flash always gave me no problems with battery draining. (after "re-calibrating")
just updated my phone to the TEST firmware JPJG8 which is currently the latest one available thru kies which includes arabic, and have seen no changes from the original firmware the phone came with ( Originally bought from Abu Dhabi with whatever firmware that had the android market not being available )
toying with juice defender for 2-3 days my SGS laged like hell even with the RyanZ lag fix OCLF from the market and it said that i saved 1.5% more juice tho i didnt see any diff with batt, it still drained fast (full charge overnight + extra charge with phone off on my way from home to work and starting @ 100% once leaving my car and ending @ 30-20% in the afternoon about 4-5pm, need to charge a little more if i wanted it to last till 10pm T_T )
deleted it today and thought why not simply use the extended control widgets to disable the connection when the screen was off + switch off the auto sync, like how the program did but manually and amazingly batt life felt like a big nasty battery i felt the diff immediatly.
kept the program juice plotter to see how steep the batt was used to compare the results.
1. keeping my phone on 2g almost all the time except for when i need to browse the net/use msn on phone - i do use facebook/twit and i might be missing the fast notifications but 2g is good with those 2 and battery life sure is extended as i can see.
2. closing the apn when locking the phone and bringing it up when screen is on is a great idea and u can almost instantly tell ur battery life is better
3. keeping screen off as much as possible helped my batt too tho i dont like it but it works.
really noticed a diff in battery usage today so im currently backing up the phone and after a fresh format/restore session will apply root and OCLF and keep you all posted on how long the battery lasts using this method
will test for 2-3 days before reporting again.
Current Battery stat killers are
1.loads of calls
2.display due to a large amount of sms's
see you again after my test in a couple of days
I don't think jg8's a test though unless it's a new rev by kies. used it a month back, pretty awesome but I've switched.
heading to bed now, shall see what happens tonight! such adventure and excitement every night.

jg8 isn't a new rev, it was out for a while and cant be found without using the ctrl+alt+u+p (and if that = test then its not an official release) at the firmware update in kies, its a middle east version with arabic support.
ok impressions on how things went.......
voice calls = 49% with 1H 13M 23Sec
Display = 35% with 5H 0M 9Sec
Cell standby = 7% with 16H 58M 44Sec
Phone idle = 4% with 11H 58M 34Sec
Android System = 3% with 42M 30Sec on CPU Usage and just 20Sec on CPU foreground
batt did last a full day for me i guess ending @ 6% when i got home
but what use is trying to save the batt life when i hardly use the phone
lets say i browsed the net for a 30min-1hour session, watched a few youtube video's/even downloaded video's for that matter or played a game or 2 for like 30 mins to an hour
ofcourse the display will be the major batt sucker by doing this and i doubt it would last an afternoon if i did so in the morning/noon time
I guess my only solution would be an extra batt or 2 for that matter if i really wanna show-off the phone and enjoy it fully for a full day. But the problem would be charging them all without a phone stand with extra batt charger
Anyways, does the batt last a full day for me , yes it does
am i satisfied doing what i did to make the batt last , N O
I got sick of my battery running out at around 3pm at work every day so I've now bought 2 extra batteries and an external charger from spider-foot.com

Well, greetings to all.
I just wanted to share my experience regarding the battery issue.
As I purchased the phone some 12 days ago, my experience is short, but somewhat effective.
First couple of days the battery lasted for app. 24h, with lots of usage (wi-fi surfing, lots of applications installation, calls, games, music, etc.). Then, I installed some "battery-indicator-related app", fully charged battery and used the phone for 15 minutes or so and went to sleep. In the morning my battery was at 80% !(it was on stand-by the whole night), and till 2pm it was at 15%, without using the phone at all.
Battery usage stated 64% "cell standby". I thought - what the .... ?
Than I did the next thing.
Uninstalled that crappy app, installed another one (similar, but other manufacturer),turned off the phone, fully charged it, turned it on, checked that wi-fi and BT are off, turned off 3G and syncs and updates, set brightness to lowest, installed black wallpaper, used task killer to kill all unwanted apps, and decided to see for how long will battery last with that settings and very little usage (couple of calls, sms and some sudoku playing).
The result:
4 days, 18 hours - since unplugged. Battery at 39%.
@ some of your replies
overflashing - ive only flashed once.
be lucky it only drops 6% when totally idle - the whole point in writing this thread was because ive previous lost 0%! when idle for hours and hours...
I have background data off (which i dont want to have to do) i have an APN switch which i use sometimes, but tbh its tedious and i shouldnt have to do this.
as far as im concerned, when i idle the phone, it shouldnt do ANYTHING

[Q] Galaxy S Overheating

Hi, I bought a SGS a few days ago. Everything was fine at first, but then it started to overheat even for a few minutes of use. It is around 32 degrees celsius when the screen is off, but even if I do nothing and keep the screen on for some time, it shows 41 degrees celsius. If I open a game or the music player it becomes 48.Not occasionally, every time I do the same thing. If it was a graphically intensive game it would probably be 55 easily. I deleted everythng and did a data factory reset, it slowed down the speed of the heating but the same thing happens eventually. I've checked similar threads and someone said even a temperature of 55 degrees is normal, but that can't be true since when the temp is 48-49 the phone becomes really sluggish, and apps stop working. Any ideas?
The most important thing is though, I dropped the phone once. However, it wasn't an issue that day and the day after. I don't think they are related, what do you think? Is there a cooling system that might be damaged? I don't want to send the phone back because there are small scratches around the silver part of the phone because of it and they might resend the phone saying it is the user's fault.
Lastly, the Froyo is installed now. If I upgrade to Gingerbread is there a chance that it will help the temperature stay normal?
I have had temperature of 60 degrees. It's pretty normal, I don't think gb would change anything from it.
When the temperature is about 50, the phone starts to lag badly, the browser lags and the games freeze. Before this, the highest I saw was 36 when playing a game.
As far as I know, when it hits 60 degrees, the phone turns off automatically, are you sure? It becomes very ucomfortable to hold too.
Definitely normal when the phone is doing something intensive. Phones don't have cooling systems - do you want a fan at the back of the device? Also, the phone can go beyond 60 degrees - it doesn't turn off when it reaches 60. If there is a defense mechanism it goes beyond that point. The battery on the other hand stops charging if the phone reaches a certain temperature. I don't recall any sluggishness with the phone at high temperatures or at least nothing like games freezing. One thing to do is to reduce to minimum the brightness of the screen coz Super AMOLED screens tend to produce a lot of heat at high brightness levels and that's what mainly heats the phone so much. Also, you can get a kernel with which you can undervolt the cpu - that will keep the cpu cooler.

Mine very rarely feels hot to the touch. If I played Dungeon Hunter for a half hour it would get pretty warm (not hot though) but that's normal I'd say. Send it back to Samsung Service Center - this phone costs half a grand, don't chance that it's slowly cooking itself to death!
Oh and I didn't find gingerbread to make a dramatic difference, wouldn't expect it to solve all your problems. Sorry dude.
try uc/uv-ing the phone, might help:\
I told you there was something wrong . It might be normal, but the beginning of it was definitely not normal. The thing is, when I set the alarm, the phone starts overheating. It goes to 40 without starting any apps, and sees 45-48 under 5 minutes of use depending on what I am doing. When I turn it off, it hovers around 36. I've never seen it past 38 even when there are three apps working. I've noticed this a few hours ago and still am still testing it, so I am not 100% sure, any of you had a problem with the alarm? It sounds even more reasonable because the time the phone started to do this roughly coincides with the time I set the alarm for the first time.
Hopefully the alarm is to blame, I can live without that .
I overclocked mine and It gets hot as hell. even when I charge the phone? Is there anyone who knows how to solve it?

[Q] Blitz - Battery and Freezes

Hey Guys, I've posted in other conversations about bad battery life with blitzkrieg and it seems pretty split down the middle between those who experience good battery life and those who don't. I did follow the advice and wait several days after I re-flashed blitz and my battery has yet to level out. I keep background data off at night when I go to bed, I went to bed with 93% battery left and woke up 7 hours later with a 23% battery life - while the phone was at rest.
I also have a problem about once every two days my phone will freeze up and restart. When it happens it just gets froze on screen and the whole phone vibrates for 20-30 seconds and then restarts.
Has anyone experiences these problems and found a solution to them? Should I change my settings at all?
I really don't want to get an extended battery but with the life my phone is currently getting I don't see much more of an option.
Thanks guys,
The phone freeze/reboot is a known issue with no known resolution. Before I dropped my last phone it had that problem consistently from stock v4 through every variant of the ota updates, revolt roms, gingervolt roms, kennels, scripts, no scripts, blah blah etc.
Now, however, I picked up a second Revo and have run it through gb and flashed gv 1.3, blitz 2.1 and various scripts and tweaks virtually mirroring my old device. I did that Monday morning and haven't had a single instance yet! These guys here do awesome work..
As for the battery draining, I haven't put my extended battery back on this phone yet because I was curious how the stock would perform with these mods. For the first couple days I was discharging at an even 10% an hour. Yesterday and today its dropped to 7.5%. Why? No damn idea. But I can live with that.
So, nothing terribly helpful here but just a disclaimer that your mileage may vary and a nod to the devs here doing kickass work. Good enough that I actively went looking for another Revo instead of fussing with a second line upgrade. That speaks volumes.
Oh yeah I'm not dissing the devs at all they're great!
The revo is a strange device all the reboots due to GPS and airplane mode I'm sure is a hardware fault because every revo I've had has done it and I'm on my third. I love blitz and can't live without my overclock lol I'm just wondering if there's special settings or CPU governors I'm not using that would help.

I've used CPU Master and am on ROM toolbox now. Can't say I've seen a significant difference between the two as far as battery goes. I've used both ondemand and smoothass, same deal.
I did have some luck limiting reboots on my first by bumping up the min to 768 but haven't needed to bother on this phone so its 2 something. No extra settings or anything. : )
Guess it's just the screwy differences in hardware that make some a better build quality than others. Well I said I wouldn't do it, but I lied...
I'm restoring to my GV 1.3 pre-blitz image as I type this. Guess I like battery over performance, we'll see...I may be back to blitz.
Can somebody explain the difference between ondemand and smoothass. I still don't understand them that well. Thanks!
I didn't read the whole thread but seeing profiles for the kernel helps a lot like when my screen is off my phone is set to minimum on the min and max which sometimes causes lag turning on but once the screen comes on it's up and running fine. At that level if I keep the screen off it takes nearly an hour to drop a percent.

Perhaps this is not the best reference but here is one about charging your Lion battery:
This link won't paste:

It points out two possible issue:
1) over discharge (perhaps our meters account for this,
2) getting the battery hot, my phone does warm up setting on the charger, sounds like the usb port charging might be better for the battery?
