Can't be done. Unlocked bootloader is necessary for this phone to write to system. Right now (on Verizon/Motorola Marshmallow update) you couldn't unlock the bootloader, even if you wanted to.
Whereas BEFORE the Marshmallow update you could have easily rooted the phone after unlocking the bootloader.
THEN, you could have fearlessly updated to Marshmallow and still retained the unlocked bootloader and all rooting rights.
We told everyone to unlock before updating, if they ever wanted root.

Why didn't you unlock before updating to Marshmallow? You've had since November 2015, when Sunshine team cracked the Droid Turbo bootloader. Marshmallow was released early December 2016. And everyone was warned to stop procrastinating and unlock the bootloader, before taking that update.
If you only bought the phone in the past month and it was already on Marshmallow, then your fault for not researching prior to buying -- IF that is so important to you. It's been discussed over and over and over in this forum.
Haha I think my youtube responses made him mad. I guess they were kinda dickish. In my defense though, when people keep asking the same question over and over again, I have to do something to keep it interesting.
I was already unlocked before the mm update and lost root ....I'm STILL unlocked (bootloader) how do I get root back?

Flash the older beta SuperSu 2.72 for initial root. After you reboot and confirm root, then you can update to the latest SuperSu. It's mentioned in all the 6.0.1 update threads.
You can find it here:

Yes. You download and install via TWRP. How did you get root before?
Do you have TWRP custom recovery? And if not, why not?
Your bootloader is unlocked and TWRP is amazing, even just for being able to go back in time to undo any mistakes (restore backup). But also lets you flash zipped files like SuperSu.

You'll need a computer to get TWRP on there. After that, you won't need one anymore. You need to download the TWRP image you want, copy it into the same folder as fastboot.exe and flash it using the command fastboot flash recovery [twrp image file name].

Hello, my friend, it is difficult to start with something that is really embarrassing, writing explicitly to you was simple chance, this is also valid for anyone who can read me. I'm from venezuela and just putting on google as is our economy you would know, so it's worth saying that to get even a dollar is very difficult task (miracle I have my turbo droid without asking how I managed to get it jejejeje) ... In short, you and anyone who could donate something to be able to free the bootloader of my droid turbo would thank them very much, I would write them (I only need 24 people besides you to help me with 1dollar that although it costs them work to obtain, it is much more Easy for you than me ... in advance THANK YOU (PayPal: paypal.me/Aldriangel) sorry for my english Ups

Since someone dug up this old thread, let me reply to my own post from several months ago, as it's now outdated. As of right now, Sunshine CAN unlock any Droid Turbo bootloader from the past two years. And if you have firmware before that (older), just update to more recent.

Don't ask how you got it? OK, I won't, but you are implying less than honest effort.
However, you managed to get the ONE Quark with a Verizon locked-down bootloader. Why didn't you get a better one? Better for your purposes which is to avoid paying anything.
You live in Latin America, and somehow ended up with the U.S. Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254. Whereas, the Moto Maxx XT1225 is the Latin America Quark with the FREE bootloader unlock code. (Moto Turbo XT1225 was sold in India, but is the exact same phone as the Moto Maxx XT1225)
The Moto Maxx XT1225 was sold in at least Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. I bought THREE of these "Latin America" phones and I live in the U.S. Sort of the opposite of you! But I bought the "Latin America" Quark because it was the better phone for me -- unlocked bootloader and has all the AT&T LTE bands. (I wouldn't mind paying for bootloader unlock if I had to, what was important for me was the AT&T carrier bands.)
Venezuela is right next to Brazil, and the same continent as Chile. Why are you getting a United States Droid Turbo, when don't need CDMA bands and the Latin America Moto Maxx XT1225 is a much better phone for you with free bootloader unlock? (Yes, all the Quarks have the popular Latin America LTE bands 3 & 7. But the XT1225 is also "better" because of more HSPA bands, and 64GB storage. Most of the used Droid Turbos popping up in other countries seem to be 32GB.)
Next time, if you care about free bootloader unlock, don't get a Verizon phone. There's other Quarks, and even other phones. You're lucky there's any bootloader unlock at all for the Droid Turbo -- and that's only thanks to Sunshine. Many people are grateful to the Sunshine team.
But no one forced you to "buy" (steal?) this phone in South America. So, no -- no one is going to pay for your Sunshine bootloader unlock.

Hello all.
I have bought an unlocked Verizon turbo and I'm using it internationally with a foreign Sim card. I have tried to search the forums and google if there is a way to install Moto maxx firmware on droid turbo. Appreciate if you can help me out or if someone can direct me to the right thread.
Thanks all
Till the bootloader can be unlocked i don't think so you'll have to wait until someone unlock the bootloader and the develop for turbo begin
Is not possible at the moment because turbo bootloader it's locked, so you can't flash anything
Thanks guys. Guess I will have to wait and see. The call divert function is useless as of now
I`m thinking of buying one and use it on AT&T, I know it its factory unlocked but my concern is can I flash say the Puerto Rico version firmware on to it? To get rid of the Verizon stuff along with the annoying "Non Verizon sim" message I know that will prob be there.

Not what I was asking. The Droid turbo works just fine on AT&T. I was asking if flashing a different varrient on it is possible since there pretty much the same phone.
Then no, you can't flash anything on Droid turbo

Because verizon locked the bootloader of this phone, so you are stuck with verizon firmware until someone finds a way to unlock the bootloader like they did with last year droid maxx
When a bootloader is locked, you can only flash firmwares designated for the exact phone model, even if they are almost or fully identical.
Hi just wondering if i buy this phone http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Blac...41?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item280344d421
Will i be able to unlock the bootloader? assuming it's not verizon if coming from hong kong or would i be wrong? cheers
I'm guessing the "unlocked" in the title means SIM unlocked. If it isn't a developer edition, your only chance to unlock the bootloader is Sunshine.

(I know I can check by just running the app on the phone, but I don't own the phone yet either, was considering buying one)
EDIT: just did a little more research, seems like sunshine will work for XT1060s if it hasn't been upgraded to 4.4.4 . If anyone knows otherwise, please correct me.

I'm not aware of the XT1060 being sold by any other carriers that Verizon in the USA. All Verizon XT1060's are SIM Unlocked (aka carrier unlocked) due to FCC 700mhz C-Block rules.
Moto only gave out the Bootloader unlock code for the Developer Edition XT1060. Sunshine will work so long as the phone is on 4.4.2 and has NEVER been flashed with 4.4.4 or higher.

Okay, complete noob question here. I cannot seem to find the .44 listed anywhere.
Is 4.4.4 the newest firmware?
I noticed my bootloader lists 2014 as the date. I did run a upgrade to get last months security patch, from what it seems.

So, let's back up. First, what version of Android are you on Kitkat 4.4.4 or Lollipop 5.1? Any Verizon version firmware numbers mentioned in this thread only apply to Lollipop.
SU4TL-49 is the newest version of Lollipop 5.1 for the Droid Turbo XT1254.
SU4TL-44 is the previous version of Lollipop 5.1 which allows the Sunshine bootloader exploit.
IF you are on Kitkat, you have to upgrade to Lollipop, but do not take the SU4TL-49 OTA.
There is a SU4TL-44 file you can flash here in this forum.
mine come with SU4TL-49
but well i desactivated all bloatware , still a very fast phone, 75 000 in antutu, 5;30 to 6:30 hours of screen
im surprised with this phone
Okay... I guess this is a droid ultra, even though it says MAXX, and the frame says MAXX. Ignore this thread!

Kind of unrelated but, I have a Droid Turbo XT1254 that I accidentally upgraded to 5.1 SU4TL-49 and I'm super bummed out because I wanted to try out CyanogenMod.
Do you think Sunshine will ever release a patch that will work on that newer build? Or maybe will release a new version for when Android 6.0 rolls out on XT1254 devices?
Also, first post :3

Can't be predicted. First exploit took a year to find. Sunshine team says they are not actively looking for another.
You can always sell your phone, buy an SUTL-44 Droid Turbo on Swappa or buy an XT1250 (Another Quark which is a Droid Turbo clone that runs on Verizon, with easily unlocked bootloader).
Thanks for the advice, from what I've seen the XT1250 is a bit more pricey.

Not the XT1225, but the XT1250. It's on eBay for $189, with free shipping.
If you buy an SUTL-44 Droid Turbo, make sure it is actually 44. And then you have to pay for Sunshine with the Droid Turbo, so factor that in.

Motorola X4 Models :

what? then how come is root only tested and working allegedly on xt1900-1? I'm getting so confused haha. I only know mine is xt1900-6.

Yes hope for the best.
From what we've been able to discern from testing is just the opposite of what the CS agent told you. The Amazon version is the one you can't unlock the bootloader (probably because they are afraid you can disable the lock screen ads that way). Nobody's paid Amazon yet to remove them (apparently you can pay the difference between the "with ads" version and the regular retail price if you want Amazon to remove them), so we don't know if that enables bootloader unlock or not.
