In your opinion, do you prefer CM13 (or marshmallow based roms) or CM14.1 (or nougat based roms) more? Which is better in terms of 1) performance/smoothness, 2) battery, and 3) features? Also, what kernel do you recommend with each version?

For now Stock 5.0.2 is the most stable with Xposed. CM13 has released but only for single sim phone (for dual sim ril is not working). I've heard AOSP 6.0 has also released but same problem. Well it's your choice (BTW try CM12.1 Snapshot release which is very stable). And yeah try abishek battery guide which also gives a bit of performance also.

Mostly every cyanogen mod 13 based Rom is stable (actually all of them). Its your choice to chose which ROM to use. (Cm 13 official , Blisspop, crdroid, tamasek, resurrection remix , mokee etc) Cyanogenmod 13 is the original official cyanogenmod android rom

The title says it. Lineage OS wont support our device as far as Marshmallow goes, so which one would you pick? First option would be CM latest snapshot. What about Resurrection Remix etc?
Try Mokee. Resurrection MM is good as well.
I see a lot of ROMs based on LOS 13 & 14.1 and all of them with the same issues, what about building a ROM based on the stock ROM?
I believe everything is working properly on stock and just take out all the crap and build it to work with all the goodies along with stability.
any idea if there is a custom rom with the latest official redmi 4x kernel that was released by mi?? pretty sure that will erase the failing network problem. does anyone have and idea if there is one?
if you like MIUI, then go for xiaomi.eu rom, they are stable. but if you like AOSP, i dont know what aosp rom is stable.
