I hope I'm posting in the right thread.
I'm looking into developing a backpack/case for all the essential accessories, each having its own pocket or spot. So far I've decided on:
Standard case/cover
Bluetooth keyboard
Stand (if not built into the cover)
Headphones
Speaker(s)
Extra long charging cable
Have I missed anything? What would you pack away for either school or business?

Other inclusions:
Stylus
Screen Cleaning Kit
Backup Charger
OTG Cable
OTG cable, and maybe that powerbank backup battery. oh and lcd cleaning kit just in case, lol
Great! Didn't think of those, thanks button pushed!
hey , you're welcome glad to help.
And maybe uh 3G modems if they can get to work thru the OTG cable
Some memory sticks to go with the OTG cable, or a low-power portable hard drive. A mini USB mouse. A 4-port USB hub for the keyboard, mouse, and memory stick/hard drive.

If you're talking essential, you can lose the BT keyboard, but add an extension cable to your extral long charging cable, that was a life saver the other week when the only power socket was on the other side of the hotel room.

IDK if this will get noticed in this thread, I spent maybe 20 mins working on it. Should I make a separate thread with this?
Hi everyone, thought I would share a mod I did to my tablet based off this guy on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6QcSpZHGFs&list=UUOxsHE9Vmxb32X66EUSWkOw&index=1
Note he used a Blackberry 8900 Energizer Qi Cover. I used an Apple Iphone 3G one and removed the coil.
Step 1: CAREFULLY remove the tape and casing around the Qi coil. The plastic comes apart easily. You want to avoid damaging the board and wires when removing the tape securing it to the Iphone case.
Step 2: Remove the nexus 7 cover. It clips off quite easily once you get a grip. I found it easiest to remove the sim slot cover and pry from there, but any opening should do.
Step 3: Place the coil. Note where I placed mine I had to peel back the bronze covering to allow the coil to penetrate the back of the case. Run the wires to the NFC connector. Note the position of the wires in the photo. Be sure to insulate the wires with tape and ensure no crossed points (which shouldnt be an issue anyhow).
Step 4: Remove the Iphone connector and solder the wires to either end of the NFC noting the correct positive and negative positions.
Step 5: Test. Note that it will enter docking mode when initially connected. If the docking notice keeps popping up that means that you do not have it centered and the connection keeps re-establishing. I used the LG Qi pad from Verizon for testing. Just pop the cover back on once done, and voila!
I preferred this to the Palm Pre inductive mod since my Nexus 4 uses the Qi standard. Hope this helps some of you!
You can disable the docking screen/options via 'DayDream' mode being turned off in display settings.

I did that mod too. Used the blackberry 8900 coil. Seems like it will take a while to fully charge the battery once its dead. I'm going to see if I can find a larger coil that can put out a higher voltage.. What is your total time to recharge your Nexus 7..? I finalized the mod today and am just charging my unit for the first time now. But it seems to be getting a low volatage as its still I'm single digits and its been on the charger for an hour or so already..
I'm getting 5 to 9 an hour with the lg charger. I'll post results when my energizer arrives and is tested.
What happens if you charge via the pogo pins (ex. a dock) and charge using a charging mat at the same time? I know this is unlikely, but I'm curious if this could cause damage to the tablet.
Does this work thru a case?

It doesnt work through the thick leather Truss case I have it in, but works through tpu covers.

I've got the poetic flip case. It's a thinner plastic with leather. Think I'm sol? What if I increase the coil size? Will that increase the strength?

It's very simple. This is a great mod for a beginner tinker-er

Yep, very easy to do mod. The energizer seems to charge faster. I am going to have to test more thoroughly, but I am getting ~15% per hour with it thus far.
After more thorough testing my LG charging pad seems to average 9-13% an hour, whereas the energizer seems to only do 7-9 an hour. Decent for overnight charging, but certainly not very fast.
Two questions:
1) What's the total cost to do this. That is both a charging mat and a donor back door.
2) How much current (that's mah not voltage) do these doors provide? I'd assume they all supply 5V since that's the USB standard and most things charge that way nowadays. Do they have ratings on them or is it just the situation that they make a replacement door/back for the xxx device and you have to live with that if you have a xxx?

The cost is that of a qi coil as described in post 1 and any qi mat.

I think the reason people go with the palm setup is that you can find them for dirt cheap. What is the best/cheapest source for qi stuff?

I have been able to find the energizer base stations in clearance areas like Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target and sometimes goodwill. Any of the energizer stations are qi compatible. My wife was able to score a double station from goodwill with the BlackBerry coils for 20 bucks ya just gotta look around

Anyone have a video review or at least a written review on this dock charger?

Nothing about it to warrant the waste of. bandwidth for a video review. It charges your device + a 2nd stock sized battery. It will let you data sync if you plug it to your PC but nothing different than plugging your USB cable in will do. The device will fit with any single layer tpu or slim fit hard plastic shell, like the bodyglove tpu, rinkge slim, cruzerlite, mercury, fosman/generic s-line size TPUs, Samsung Pro+, Samsung flip cover, etc. The bodyglove/TPUs are about as thick as the spring mounted male USB will allow to fit properly. Most, if not all, hard plastic slim cases (type with top and bottom bezel exposed) will work. Other than that it's nothing fancy, definitely not a smart dock replacement, not without some extra parts and pieces. If you wanted to make it a semi smart dock you could connect an OTG cable to the data/charge port for the main dock and then have extras plugged into it like USB mouse and KB, external storage and either some kind of mirroring device or MHL adapter. MHL would probably be the best if you could connect it to the dock then the OTG and power supply to the MHL. I have this dock and a knock off "Sumsang" dual charging/data dock. I use the knock off more often than not. It's more compact, since it's about 1/2-3/4" high and mostly flat on top minus a 1/8" lip for the phone rest on the dock area, and it allows the phone to rest in portrait while docked or landscape undocked, which is how I usually use it just to set my phone in at night while my 2nd battery charges in the back.

I like to break stuff!
Sounds like it would do fine then I just want it to charge my phone and so I can use the dock to stand my phone up.

Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone has attempted to use Qi wireless with the G Flex. I had the Palm touchstone for my GS3 and fell in love with it. With the Flex I am figuring it is a bit more complicated as there is not simply a dedicated hookup on the back of the device that made the Palm mod possible on the S3, as well as most Qi enabling devices out there connect into the microusb port, which may not be as simple as it could be given the curved back and oddity that is the microusb 3.0 standard connector.
So has anyone given it a shot and have some recommendations?
I didn't feel the need to since the battery last me all day on one charge even with somewhat heavy use.

I'm running this on a Qi wireless charger now. Works quite well except you can't get enough juice out of the Qi receivers on the market. They only go up to 750 mA which means it takes a long time to charge. But I like the convenience.

Do you need a special case for wireless charging? I thought it didn't support the Qi wireless charger. Is it a new feature in 4.4.2?

Good question. Qi wireless charging is a hardware limited option. So you have to add a Qi wireless receiver. You can find numerous universal Qi micro usb "A" on Amazon or eBay. The receiver plugs right into the charging port you have and the receiver is either secured to the back of the phone (it's a really thin, like a thick piece of paper almost). Since there is no removable cover this is the only option. Now if you don't have a case or have a slim one, it probably wouldn't look good. I have mine tucked under a Trident case (in between the phone the case), the Aegis I believe. So you don't even notice it.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Man this is a old post. lol I think I charged the Flex like I do my Note 4. I'll put it on the wireless charger when I sleep and maybe when I take a shower or eating. With the Note 4 it has quick charge so I use the cable if I need some quick juice.
Any word when the Flex 2 is coming out?
I had an older version of their product (which was a cable, not an adaptor) for my old nexus 10. It was a great cable, very strong magnetic attachment and worked flawlessly. I was very happy with their quality so I decided to look for another one for this tablet. It seems they got this new adaptor now, that looks very interesting, but the price is kinda big.
I bought a z1 cable for less then 5$ which does the job, but the magnet isn't very strong and not very fixed either, I mean the pins sometimes lose contact even tho the cable is still attached magnetically.
So 12 pounds + around 6 for shipping, seems a bit too much.
I was wondering if anyone tried this product?
I am also interest in someone's experience with this. Does it support 2 amperage? Amazon.de shows a couple of variants. That WHSKEN cable looks solid

Got the Sony's one. The magnet was so loose. After it "snapped" I then place my tablet on the desk, the magnet fells off 90 degree (because the wire was "touch" by the desk).
Hard to precisely aim so that it actually charge. Most of the time it snapped by doesn't charge.
Back to USB cable for now even though the flap starting to loose...
I am using this one and it is good, i also have an original cable from the z1 compact dock, which does have a weaker magnet.
its only $4

I'm using my DK31 for my z1, z3 compact and z3 compact tablet. For the tablet I have a card on the back to hold it secure. It works fine for all 3 of my devices.

Be careful with magnectors very strong magnets. They can easily pull off the magnetic port no matter how careful you are. Already pulled out my z3 and tab z3 magnetic port. Better use the dock or the cable from sony.

The "MagNector Magnetic Charging Adapter for Micro USB Cable for or Z3 and Z3 Compact and Tablet" on amazon is okay. Works if you don't mess with it. Will fall of if you move it around.

There is an official Sony magnetic charging cable?
Could you provide a reference?
The magnetic connectors don't work as good as they do on the Z3 phone. The tab is too large and they easily fall off. Easier to use a dock.

Only recently found this thread as I am a new X3c Tablet owner.
I have a variant of this cable, the New Magnector X2 which uses the same magnets, but is an adapter for any other MicroUSB cable... This product pulled the magnetic pogo pin mount right out of my old z3c phone, so try the break the connection sideways instead of pulling straight off
Hi there, you can use the WKSEN Cable, it is well build and it support the Fast Charge Option via the right Qualcomm Charger.
