TWRP stuck on splash screen? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I just got my 3T, flashed TWRP, flashed the new OOS Beta 2 build, and changed my 3T's splash image. Now out of nowhere, TWRP will get stuck in its logo. I didn't flash anything the last time it worked, it just randomly stopped working after a backup. I've gave it a few minutes, tried older/newer versions, and deleting the .twrps file on the internal storage. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it, preferably without wiping data?
Edit: I can boot into OOS just fine and everything but TWRP works.

Just fastboot flash the lastest twrp https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/development/recovery-twrp-oneplus-3t-t3507308

I had the same problem a few hours ago...
I flashed the latest TWRP and then booted it via fastboot (fastboot boot twrp-3.0.3-1-oneplus3t.img.).
I waited 1-2 minutes, rebooted it into TWRP again (this time not via fastboot but with the buttons of the phone). After a few minutes I finally saw the usual TWRP UI.
I don't know why or how, but it worked.

It also takes a long time for me here..

Thanks. I had to wait about 6 minutes, but it worked.

I have similar problem but for me just get black screen with only notification led on... I have tried everything (reflash, dm verity zip, swap zip, f2fs version etc.) but nothing work. Im using RR rom, EXT4, decrypted. Only way to boot recovery is "fastboot boot twrp.img"

Same thing happened with me. Followed the usual "flash recovery" and "boot" approach. Got stuck at splash forever.
Removed the USB cable, turned off the phone. Started the phone with "Volume Down+Power" combination and it booted in recovery after a few minutes of the splash screen.

Remember that it takes a while to boot up TWRP if you're using f2fs, the more files on the data partitions the longer it takes.

true ! kernel source been released hopefully some one makes an advance stock kernel.

I had the same problem recently, I found a solution on a reddit post somewhere;
Basically in terminal/CMD in fastboot mode wipe cache and userdata then reboot to recovery.
Code:
fastboot format cache
fastboot format userdata
Worked for me.
Disclaimer; Data will be lost!
Edit: found OP https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/4agvpc/help_android_n_twrp_hangs_at_splash_screen/

This a late addition to the thread but it will hopefully avoid continued confusion or new threads on the same subject. It seems that Nougat defaults to ext4 for the SYSTEM (and boot?) partitions but f2s2 for the DATA partition. TWRP will open within seconds with an EXT based partition but will take several minutes (eg 5-10) to open if your DATA is f2s2. You can live with it for now, or you can reformat your DATA partition to EXT4. Note that this will wipe out all of your data!

Just replying to say this worked on my Redmi Note 3 even though this isn't the correct forum. Formatting cache only doesn't work, you must format both cache and userdata, so I hope you have a backup. I wonder what causes this...

You sir are a saint. This command worked for me I was able to boot into TWRP

Accidentally formatted /sdcard, now phone won't boot.

I accidentally formatted /sdcard instead of /system because I derped while trying to flash Youngunn's AOKP. Now I'm stuck because my phone won't boot any ROM. I re-flashed CWM (because that was erased with /sdcard) and it won't boot with AOKP or CM10.1. My phone is in the process of restoring Echo's PA, which I made a backup of. Anytime it attempted to mount /data it gives an error. All help is appreciated!
Hey bud.
So formatting /sdcard will not delete your recovery. I'm not sure what is going wrong with your phone but a clean install of cwm with fastboot and then installing aokp again will make it all better.

It wouldn't boot into recovery (even selecting it from the bootloader or whatever screen), it would just stick at the Motorola bootlogo. Also tried your AOKP and restoring the PA backup, it kept giving me an error (just "Error mounting /data!") whenever it tried to mount/access /data and would stick at the ROM's bootlogo.
And just a note, when I select "Wipe dalvik cache" it just comes back to the same screen, doesn't wipe it or send me to the "no, no, no, no, yes, no" screen.
AOKP has been attempting to boot for 15 minutes now.
I'm assuming the /data mount is the issue here. Not sure what happened or how to fix it or even how to troubleshoot. All I did was accidentally wipe /sdcard, flash AOKP, stuck on bootlogo so I rebooted to recovery, which didn't work, so I fastbooted CWM back on, and the /data mount issue began.

I'd say try the Myth tools and flash a stock image, I've erased my SDcard tons of times, I just did it last night, I wiped int and ext without issue through CWM,
I say use myth because it seems to work for everyone, it doesn't for me, I have to use RSD So I'd say pick your poison, both get you back to stock
Dude oh my god I had this same issue on a different device, I forgot what the fix was. If I come up with something I'll let you know.

I think he has to get the motorola factory programming cable to fix it, since it acts like a os for you to load a new os to your phone. Sorry I don't know a link on where to buy.

i got this issue on my device a few days back. and i did format everything and manually flashed stock rom components via fastboot. please use this updated fastboot binary
1)download the required firmware from here i used last one (retail mexican) and recovery
2)extract the zip and place the recovery image and fastboot binaries in the extracted directory and open terminal in this directory.
3)type the following commands in order
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash devtree device_tree.bin
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot -w
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader

@Aingaran method is my recommendation as well. I'll just add to flash all the fast boot partitions... Might as well since you're already there

[Q] Bricked my XT1068? I can't even install any ROM...

Hello everyone!
Today I decided to change from Dalvik to ART. Phone restarted couple of times and was always stuck on "Android is upgrading". When it finally came to the unlock screen I unlocked it and then I got some error (Everytime I unlocked it). So that happened every time after I rebooted my phone. And after some time I think my battery went to 0% and I had to connect it and then I couldn't even get to the locked screen. Phone got stuck after Motorola animation and black blank screen appears.
I looked online to see what's the problem and saw that many people fixed this with flasing ROM, so I decided to do it myself. I unlocked the bootloader and tried to do some recovery with erasing cache and nothing works. I downloaded some ROMs includiding stock 4.4.4 and installed in command prompt with some fastboot commands like this:
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash logo logo.bin
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash boot boot.img
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot-moto-windows.exe erase modemst1
fastboot-moto-windows.exe erase modemst2
fastboot-moto-windows.exe flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot-moto-windows.exe erase cache
fastboot-moto-windows.exe erase userdata
Everything went smoothly but still when I turned on my phone it was still stuck at blank screen after animation.
I saw many other ways to do it including (ADB) but I'm noob at all this and tried something but I'm not sure which one to do cause there is so many guides.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!

did you get any error messages if not that sounds like you need to wipe cache / data
can you boot to recovery to reset
or post #6 with modified script ( from AP fastboot flash mode )

I got 1 message about missing chunk.4 or something. In folder I have 0, 1, 2, 3 system.img_sparechunk.
I can boot to recovery and see 4 options (reboot system now, apply update from sdcard, apply update from ADB, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition).
I already tried wipe data and wipe cache partition and still the same. Wipe cache finishes in just a second...
I already used that script in post #6.

Done see other thread
no thats why its modified but you need to be able to put phone in AP fastboot flash mode by the volume down and power button method - no USB debugging required
down load 444 or 502 (not both) easy installer in my signature, then the CORRECT modified auto restore script, then extract both zip to SAME folder , usB cable in fastboot flash mode and run modified script

you do realise after the world boot up animation, it stops on the blue 'm'' globe for about 5-10 mins when setting up android, then moves to android upgrading 1 of 50 apps.... before fully booting -whole thing can take 20 mins
also i had black screen a few times (soft brick) and used my TWRP back up
still have ideas / fixes
if you install TWRP 2.8.4.0 recovery and boot to recovery
we can do full wipe inc dalvik, cache and data and try again.
if that fails
I will give you a clean restore from my fone to flash to yours via TWRP

Oneplus 3 decryption Ultimate guide

Ok guys, this is a sureshot guide for
PROBLEM
* anyone wanting to decrypt their op3 but stuck at 1+ boot screen(Or not able to boot any custom ROMs.) and only able to restore twrp backups
* After using fastboot format userdata twrp and about phone shows only 32gb phone memory(where the hell is my rest of 32gb )
* Fastboot format userdata resulting in Stuck at boot screen or simply an unbrick trick to return to Stock OOS in unencrypted stage
SOLUTION
1. Use method 2 of Mega unbrick guide to restore your phone to stock partitions found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-hard-bricked-t3405700
2. After the flashing is complete do not reboot the phone instead reboot directly into bootloader.
3. In fastboot mode flash modded twrp 3.0.2.22 using command ''fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'' found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads
4. Reboot directly into twrp and using mtp mode copy latest elemental x kernel or bluspark kernel zip for OOS and SYSTEM supersu.zip into the internal storage. System supersu.zip here OR directly proceed to step 8
https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/supersu/download/zip/SuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zip
5. Now flash system supersu.zip and directly after that kernel.zip
6. Now again reboot to recovery directly and from twrp boot into system.
7. After boot up you system should be decrypted. You can check in security settings.
8.Reboot recovery and flash required firmware + modem zip found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/radio-modem-collection-flashable-zips-t3468628
9.wipe data +cache +dalvik +system
10. Flash any rom of your choice and go flashoholic, use multirom or whatever you want.
Pheww. Thanks.
Man, Finally the SystemRoot (V4A, MultiROM etc) as we discussed a couple of weeks back with this hassle at the Mega Unbrick and Decrypt guides threads...:highfive:
I saw your post on MultiROM but maybe it got moved I guess...
So are you able to cross flash anything now ?
thanks.

anything... even multirom works flawless.
I will give this a try, Or will try to Flash the EX then perform parts of this since they support Kexec, to see what works, I have data and lot of apps working them again is a real pita with my schedule...

Yes you can but you will be encrypted again. so after msm method reboot fastboot and flash modded twrp. reboot recovery flash CB or OOS. flash supersu flash kernel. Agin flash twrp.img from recovery itself and reboot recovery. After that reboot system and you are good to go. Make sure you have enough system space before flashing supersu and kernel. frow twrp file manager delete unneeded system apps 1st. DO NOT REBOOT in between.

[Solved / Fixed ]Cannot decrypt the phone after flashing the flyme build

Hi ,
I am not a noob, but yesterday out of curiosity flashed the flyme build in the unified section. However, after the TWRP reboot to system, it did not boot. So tried to reboot the recovery and success. But the villian was there, encryption password. I tried giving my phone PIN, it said wrong password.
After half an hour, i installed the stock image(3.5.1) using the msm tool. Well it booted fine and phone is usable. Unlocked the bootloader and flashed the latest TWRP,.
The villian is back, asking for password. Now it is taking any password, always say wrong password. Ok in case i skip the decrypt screen, i cannot access the sdcard to flash new rom.
Is this the end of story of my op3t?
Have you tried "default_password"?

Tried everything. The phone boots into OOS 3.5.1 after msm tool flash without password. Even it behaves very well. Only after the TWRP installation. It is stuck for password. I think its end of story.

Then I don't know... Usually if TWRP suddenly starts asking for a password without having set one, using "default_password" will work.
You could try flashing a kernel that disables forced encryption and then format data to unencrypt.
You have to make sure to restore system to the version using the same encryption libraries as used the last time you could decrypt the data partition. If all fails you will have to format your data partition and loose it all.

I have already lost the data. TWRP not allowing me to enter the sdcard storage to flash anything. Can u brief me how to format the data partition.
Just bootup phone into fastboot mode from the unlocked bootloader menu, then connect to PC and run "fastboot format userdata" from a path with either fastboot in or anywhere of you've added the folder with fastboot in you PATH variable.

Did this. But after should i flash the stock image again? Because system is not booting and stuck in oneplus logo.
How about fastboot erase options?
I disabled encryption one year ago to avoid this problem, and therefore have never experienced it. But why don't you do a compete MSM restore? That should restore even the data partition.

Let me try once i go home and update u. Thanks for the response..
Will format the data from fastboot. and flash the stock image. Hope this works.
Finally happened to work.
Installed a different version twrp made the trick. But this time i erased the recovery and flashed again. After that wiped all the data and then sideloaded the rom from adb and it did the trick..

You do this by flashing the latest no-verity-opt-encrypt zip file after formatting the data partition and also after each update of the OS.

I think my MI8 got bricked

1. yesterday, i was using lasted PE 9.0 as my daily driver.
2. My phone got a little lag so I tried to reboot my phone but it couldn't so I hard reset it.
3. The phone got into bootloop
4. Access TWRP, it seems like my date got corrupted cause i lost all my data and internal storage show nothing
5. Tried format date but got error: Can not mount persist
6. Use MIFlash to flash the 9.6.20, 9.6.27 (global) and 9.5.9 (china) and the phone still got stuck in the MI + android logo screen.
P/s: as i checked the phone still got unlocked. i can still install TWRP in fastboot but flash any rom got error 7
Update: every TWRP i tried got bootloop and made me lost persist except this https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HiQsS5bZOKA4AV89S9CieQfphzCRSYcj
I think this is the best for fixing any errors in Android 9. After fixing u can install another TWRP
Now using PE, it seems i cant flash any MIUI
That wasn't a brick/ It was a encryption issue
Go to Wipe, Format Data, type yes, reboot to recovery, wipe system and flash any rom you want!
Glad you fixed, miui, is **** anyways, who needs it lop

You can try changing all partition to f2fs (or any other format) and then changing back to ext4.
It worked for me...

Boot in to twrp Wipe/advanced wipe/select system + cache + data(one at a time) then press change or repair system file and select f2fs and continue as I mentioned before.
Updates please....
