Root, unroot & ota? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi!
Newbie here..
If I Root my 3T running Oxygen OS 4 and I get an OTA, can I just unroot it quickly and root it again afterwards?
Does it work like this or am I on the wrong track?
Thanks!

I had read somewhere that if you were rooted the OTA would fail if you just try to update
I downloaded the OTA on my pc and transfered it onto the phone then booted into TWRP, flashed and rooted and everything went fine

I received OSS4.0.2 update under rooted(flashed superSU) OP3T and both OTA and local upgrade failed even after I unrooted, finally I just flashed the full OTA zip in TWRP and it worked out fine.

As I can recall, I just cleared cache and flashed ROM and superSU. Didn't even tried ADVANCED SWIPE.

Well the OTA kept asking to update every second. I pushed the .zip Firmware at HBOOT along with installing the stock rooted ROM. Everything worked fine until i accidently allowed the OTA update to install and rebooted the phone and it wont start back up now.

If i have the ROM on my internal SDcard already could i just flash that through recovery? I know the big problem was installing the new OTA update through sprint.

I am not sure i am explaining this well either. I am rooted... S-OFF... I installed the custom .zip for firmware from themikmik forum (captin)... which was installed through HBOOT on an external SDCard. I then Installed the Stock rooted from From captin. All was good until the notification to update OTA popped up and accidentally installed. After the phone rebooted it will never get past the white HTC One screen. I can boot into my Custom recovery and that is all i can do.

Yeah give it a shot.
Also within twrp choose File Manager and navigate to your Internal sdcard and find the downloads folder and delete the OTA file.
Not 100% sure that will work but it's worth a shot.

You cold try fastboot flashing the stock recovery and see if the OTA will continue

I personally never take the OTA.
All I know is you have to have a stockish rom and stock recovery for the OTA to flash

Why is there no chatter about the EPF1 update?
I've been scanning the boards and not much about it... It appears to just to be simple Android Security Update, yet no one has really said anything about it..

I updated, but haven't noticed much of a difference. Apparently it adds an anti-theft feature that requires you to enter your google login information before it will let you reset the phone.
I can't wait for someone to root it.

Anyone having an issue with this update? I went back to stock for this update, then tried to apply TWRP, and the recovery doesnt stick, stays with the android default.
Edit: nvm...
I was afraid of this.. It may because of the new Secure Bootloader that if something isn't signed by Samsung or T mobile.. It may flash, but then buffer out and not install..

What are you guys talking about?
This update shouldn't prevent flashing a recovery, nonetheless be able to boot into download mode/odin mode and flash an older firmware.
I am downloading this atm, let me know if I am wrong.
Update: Flashed the update, flashing TWRP is fine.

Yes TWRP sticks.
Root works fine.
I am guessing a custom kernel would work fine, provided it is based on this firmware.
I am not going to test any as I have no need for a custom kernel.

Forgot to update earlier.
But yes, Root + TWRP + Custom Kernel + Xposed (v85+) works with this update.
Just to clarify, rooting and flashing twrp and supersu with this update on the tmobile galaxy s6 wont brick? I keep hearing that my bootloader is locked and i cant root with this build on my phone.
Edit: what is the best way to root? i keep hearing that i should flash a cf auto root file instead of twrp.

Hey, sr. For some reason it will not let me reboot to bootloader, can you help, or anyone?
Press the Power Key, Volume Down, and the Home Key at the same time while the device is powered off, that should put you into download mode..
Mind you that there is no official root method for EPF1, you can flash TWRP and then SuperSu to establish root

Install Android 6 without root?

As the tittle says. Can I install Android 6 in my s5 mini without rooting? Or unrooting later. I have G800H model. Can I do it with odin? If someone can write the steps for me or paste some tutorial I'll be very grateful!

If you Flash TWRP recovery trough Odin, like it is mentioned in another thread all about flashing, you can install CM13 (which is basically Android 6). You don't have to install SuperSU.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...install-twrp-custom-roms-g800f-t3439853/page1
This explains just how you do it, of course you have to flash files specific for G800H and not for G800F if you have the Snapdragon version.

Thanks for answering. I think I screwed up a little. Installed twrp and rooted then I tried to install CM but it failed. I read that the reason is I got an old version of TWRP. So I wiped all but I still have TWRP and rooted. How can I wipe everything? And start as you indicated me? And where can I find a TWRP updated version because I can't find a compatible with S5 mini in the official website.
So many thanks in advance!

Just go to Androidfilehost.com and search for hennymcc than go into his CM13 directory for S5 Mini and download the TWRP there. You can flash it via Odin. Then you don't have to root. Just install CM13 from the same directory. No need to root at all. If you want to, just flash SuperSU which you can find on Google.
If you want to wipe, you can do that in TWRP under the option wipe -> advanced wipe -> and mark data, cache, dalvik cache and system.
Thanks again! I downloaded the recovery you told me. There's just a part that I don't get well:

Aaaaaaah you are on Stock right? If you are on Stock:
Flash the TWRP I told you via Odin and right after the flash finished press the buttons to enter recovery. DONT LET IT REBOOT! if it reboots, you have to try again. You have to go into TWRP right after flashing, because otherwise TouchWiz restores the stock recovery. It only does that on the first reboot. Once you were in TWRP, it stays.

There are other recoverys but TWRP works fine and is the best recovery in my opinion. And no, you can flash any zipaligned ROM with the recovery.

Another solution to at least get out of just going to TWRP every time is to delete cache. It'll boot into a messed up version of Android as you tried to do an OTA to a rooted device.. but it'll at least boot if you need to get something important.
You'll have to flash the full OOS 4.0.2 file which is like 1.4 GB.
Thanks guys,i'll try and update you what worked.

I downloaded the full OTA and installed it just fine. Read this if you have problems. It works.

Ok guys, problem solved.
I am flashed a twrp from that thread via fastboot and adb.
Then Wipe > Advance Wipe > Select Dalvik & Cache > Swipe to Wipe
After that I am enabled ADB sideload from TWRP, placed the full OTA zip file into adb directory on pc and sideloaded it with :
Code:
adb sideload <filename>.zip
Then rebooted system and got my android working.
After that i just put supersu on the device with usual usb connection, rebooted into twrp and flashed supersu zip file for root.
That's it. Thank you all!
P.S.
Before that bloody ota update I had 4.0.1 on my device, and now i flashed 4.0.2 . Personally i always prefer to make a clean install. Will that 4.0.2 update flashed by the sideload method make any effect on overall OS performance or it is just fine?

You must have to reinstall the ROM
Do this
Go to recovery
Make full wipes
Install SuperSU
Install the rom untouched
Install SuperSU again
