of available user space of around 4 GB, there is something System data which is currently occupying massive 2.91 GB. I have tried everything within my reach and i cant access that data. I cleared dalvik and cache which reduced it about some 300 mb but it still increasing. And now apps are failing to start citing minimum storage of 100 MB required. I have formatted my phone also but still no luck in clearing that space.
Plz help !!
Look in setting - storage - Misc. for MTK LOGGER...or forgot the name exactly. When I made factory reset and update google apss, this file - Mtk... Was 1.9 GB ¿? I was wondering where has-been my free space

Hi people,
I have a Nexus One with Cyanogenmod 7, and I recently got an error saying that the SD card is blank or has f*cked filesystem (Sandisk SDHC 8GB). I managed to format the motherf*cker but now I still have cache left on the phone from the apps I had on my SD card.
On phone, with only some basic apps.
Available : 31.98 MB
Total Space: 196 MB
So how can I clear that cache, or leftovers from the apps I had on the SD ?
Thank's in advance.
Well, any of the apps that you had moved to the sdcard will still require removing from your phone. Using Froyo's app2sd moves only a portion of the app to the sdcard, so parts of it still remain along with the dalvik cache and the data for that app. So go into Settings -> Applications -> Manage and remove the apps that you no longer want (or were originally stored on the sdcard).
Oh, you're right, I found the apps that were on the SD and I can delete them from there. It's kinda silly, I've tried all sorts of different things but I didn't look in that section.
Thanks alot mate !
No problem. Glad you got it working.
I uninstalled everything that had leftovers on the phone but that only gave me about 12 mb space on the phone, so now I have 45 mb free out of 192. Is this normal ?
Thank you.
Were you running any app2sdext or just using the Froyo method of putting apps on there?
If you run
Code:
su
cd /data
du -hd 1
It will show you the size of each folder. If you go into those folders and run that command again, it will show you the sizes of those as well. If you change the command slightly to
Code:
du -hd 1 | grep M
It will only show you things that have a capital M in it (which is what is used to designate MB, so it will weed out some of the smaller folders).
This might give you an idea of what is taking up your space. I assume you have already sorted your apps by size in Settings -> Applications -> Manage?
I was using the App2SD free app from the market.
I ran the commands you said and this is what I've got (only high values here) :
31.1M ./data
94.6M ./dalvik-cache
28.7M ./app

I would wipe your dalvik cache (can be done in the advanced section of recovery). You might be able to manually do it yourself, but it is easier in the recovery). There are probably caches from previous programs that haven't been erased. Android will regenerate any caches that it needs when it boots back up.
Seems like wiping dalvik's cache did the trick, now I've got over 100mb free on the phone.
Thank you very much brother.
If you are in need of more space on your phone, I can highly recommend using an app2sdext option. This can make the phone think it has much more internal memory. I am using a 1GB partition on my sdcard to store all my apps and dalvik cache. I use S2E which is an extremely easy app that is on the market. All you have to do is partition your sdcard (which does require it to be wiped again) and install this app. Then you just check what you want moved over to this new partition, the phone will reboot, and you will now have space to have everything installed that you want.
I keep getting a persistant low storage notification. It persists even after switching roms as soon as I restore all of my apps. In settings it shows that I have about 1 gb free. However, many of my apps are on the sd card and the phone will not allow me to move them to primary storage because it says I don't have any free storage on the device.
What's going on here? How can I fix it?
Are you on CM7 or 9? Both of these put their application data in a smaller partition than the Samsung ROMs for speed reasons, but you can run out of space much more easily. Download a cache cleaner from the market, clear out all of your application caches, and see if that resolves the issue.
Also, move movable apps to sd card

I believe AOSP ROMs are the same. Clear caches and move apps to SD.

I'm getting the same message just recently and I too have over 1 gb phone storage left... so is this number wrong? I understand what u mean about apps on smaller partition but does that mean it actually smaller then the 2gb space? I'm on cm9. Sgsics 4.0.3 rc 4.2
So even though I have over 1.2 gb of phone storage left and over 8 gb of USB storage left I should still be installing on ext SD? And or cache cleaner? Is there way to find out how much app storage space I get on these roms? I'm only using 743mb thus far. Does this mean I will run out soon even though it says I have lots of room left?
Thanks

As I understand it, it's not that it is a wrong number so much as an incomplete one. The apps are installed there, but their cache, settings, databases, etc actually live in data/data for performance reasons. This is the partition that is actually full. You can check the available space with a terminal emulator by typing "df datadata" (without the quotes, of course."
This is why clearing app caches usually helps.

Hi i have the same problem. I have 1,5 GB free for the internal storage but running "df datadata" command reveal partition seized 172 MB used 161 MB free 10MB ...
How can i fix this? I also have 32GB SD card completely FREE
I moved some apps to SD card but that does not free up space. Is there a way to resize this partition?
Hi Guys,\
I am looking for your advice on some internal storage issues on my Samsung Galaxy Note 1 (N7000). i have been using mainly cyanogen rom 10 and Super Nexus Rom.
I keep getting warnings my internal storage (not the internal or external SD card) is nearly full. Apps won't install or update.
If i look at settings/storage/internal storage it says total space 1,97 GB. First it starts out grey and the bar is nearly full. Than it calculates and says there is 192 MB available, 631 mb Apps (app data & media content) installed and 7,71 mb cached data.
I am not an mathetmaticien, but 192 mb + 631 mb + 7,7mb adds up to 830,7 MB. Where is the other 1,166.7 GB gone???? What is eating my internal storage and how can clean this up?
I have tried wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wiped app data, used apps2sd, i have tried loads of cleaning apps. the only that works is a full factory reset. And after a couple of weeks the internal storage fills up again with ghost data... Any advice here??
Try to use Forever Gone, it fills the memory with .blank files, then it erases all those files and free up space. Hope it helps you with that issue.
If not, consider use another rom , like Asylum Rom, it's CM 10.1 and it simply rocks on my Note with no issues at all.
Good Luck!

thanks for the help,
But Gone Forever only cleans up the "internal SD card" Not the internal storage. I have 9 GB free on my Internal SD card, so thats not the issue. The issue is about the 2GB internal storage.

Actually, this post did solve my problem! But i could not solve it without root explorer! Loads of dumpstate files in data/log/ map! I deleted those and my my memory was back to normal! THANKS a lot.
Ofcourse, curious as I am: What the f .. k is causing this?? I did run a malware app to see if there was a corrupt app somewhere to blame.... but found nothing.

my mobile hangs when performs very simple tasks..may be it is due to system memory..
which is 770 KB left...basically it is 100% full
Is there any effective way by which I can delete some files which will not effect my mobile or any other way..please help
(or system memory doesnt effect performance at any cost?)
I m using CyanogenMod 10.1 modded for Galaxy Ace

BTW it was working ok in the beginning..
Did you moved some app's or something else into /system or was there always that much space left?

no ..I didnt on my own..I have 2GB SD card with 512 MB Ext partition..and link2sd link all the apps there..
As all I remember is 8-9 days after this rom there was more than 1% of memory..(dont know what was there in the beginning)
Clean all the chaches and the useless Dalvik cache with Titanium Backup. Than re-link all the apps and libs. I think is the best you can do. Maybe install tasker and automate this process

I have a question about other files in storage. I received this phone from my brother. It was formatted from the recovery (data wiped). I installed my account and all is right except for an equipped space of more than 1GB in other files. I remember when my brother was using the phone, other files was 0 Kb. I have no backup stored to the cloud or whatsoever. I did several factory reset with no luck. It pisses me off that 1 GB is being used without any reason keeping in mind it's only 25 GB out of the box storage for 32 GB rom.
Any ideas how to get rid of the other files.?

On my MIUI 9.5 "other files" consist of:
- dalvik cache (not the app cache)
- hidden twrp backup files
- archive files like zip, tgz, etc.
The definition of "other files" may depend on MIUI version and perhaps your brother was using a different one, hence 0kb for him and 1GB for you, while there was no real difference.
To find exact storage use you need an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage
However it will reveal many more details if you root your phone.
Incidentally, my Dalvik cache is 0.9GB and one can not get rid of it as it is an essential part of Android OS.
