GPS fix problems - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Since update to android 7.0 Miui 8 global 7.1.19 beta (via OTA) im having problems with getting a quick gps fix, i get the fix after some time (around 10 minutes) and then next time same. Is there any app to speed up gps fix ?

try this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/help/gps-issues-t3539327?nocache=1
advice1: it's a beta, use it with with a grain of salt.
advice2: sometimes a reboot will get you out of the mud.

Have you tried this?
https://www.xda-developers.com/gps-lock-faster-xdatv/
I usually use FasterGPS and seems to work fine.

not rooted so i think second option wont work for me. first option gets a fix after a while, but doesnt seem permanent, next time i start navigation i still have to wait around 5 minutes before fix

thanx for the answers though, guess ill have to wait for fix in update

If I am in the car and the charger is plugged in a GPS fix is 50/50. Even when it locks on it can drop easily.
The moment I unplug the charger GPS works absolutely 100% within seconds. Which is fine - as long as the journey isn't too long.

It happens to me too but only with a Quick Charge charger. It never happens when using other chargers or a non Quick Charge port (the charger has 2 non QC and 1 QC port). I'm going to test other cables just in case...

Sorry, yes forgot to mention that. It does appear to be an issue with Quick Chargers. AS you say, when it is plugged into a normal charger there are no issues.

It seems some people have solved it creating a new profile in Battery Management, but I can't find that option in mi Spanish MIUI.es ROM...

[SOLVED] Phone Stops Charging Randomly. Solution?

I noticed this as of yesterday. My Nexus One is plugged in to the wall charger right now, but it randomly stops charging. The light at the top disappears and the phone shows that it is not charging. Give it a few seconds, and it starts charging again. Sometimes it will charge for 30 minutes without a problem, other times it starts and stops every few minutes. I've tried messing with the cable, but it doesn't affect whether or not it charges. I plan on switching batteries with my brother to see if that has a change. I'll also try a different cable soon. I've already rebooted the device, no change. If you go to the battery usage chart, it shows huge gaps in the green charging area..
Rooted, running geo411m stock rom, Android 2.3.3, stock kernel, stock HBOOT.
Any ideas? I hope the charging circuitry isn't failing. Took like 5 hours to charge, now the phone is at 95% battery.
I would try to wipe the battery stats from recovery see if that makes any difference then maybe try full wipe 1 to 5 times and maybe a clean install or even just change ROMs and check if it's the same.
alright I'll give those a try. I just don't know what could have caused it to happen. been on this rom for months, no change in setup. just randomly started. seems like a software issue to me (hopefully not hardware). even right now as I'm using it, it's plugged in but not charging.. 81%, no charge light.

Your charger or cable are most likely the culprit. When the charger doesn't provide enough current - the phone stops charging, and sometimes chargers fail.

It was the charger! My brother has an official HTC one he bought off eBay (looks like this), whereas I have the one that came with the N1. His charged my phone fine. My charger was still screwing up with his phone. I'm just going to buy the HTC one now. Thanks for you suggestion!

Call HTC, even if you're out of warranty. They have been exceptional in providing replacements for broken accessories. I had somehow cracked the lens in the battery door, and when I called to ask where I can buy a new back cover they simply asked for my address and told me I could expect one the next day. Worst thing that could happen is they say "no".
I was searching an answer but found myself. The issue is something happen to system because of unstable voltage then keeps turning off charging.
I've added agni control kernel and activated ignore unstable charging power and voila!
I know this is an old thread but can you tell me - if you can remember (!) - how did you acticate "ignore unstable charging power"? I have the AGNI kernel for my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 but no idea where the settings are! I've heard of an app but where it is I don't know.

[Q] Used wrong charger, battery jumped to 100%

I wanted to quickly transfer something from my laptop to my new Droid Turbo, so I quickly grabbed a USB cable thinking it was my Droid Turbo's cable. I had accidentally grabbed my 2012 Asus Nexus 7 cable instead. I plugged it into a USB 3.0 port on my laptop and after transferring some things for two minutes I noticed my battery was at 100%. I thought this was strange as my battery had only a few minutes ago been 87%. That's when I realized I was using the Asus cable.
Should I be concerned? I usually almost religiously never mix chargers.
Edit: I have just discovered that the cable is damaged and partially pulling out from the USB end.. could this have anything to do with it?
I had the same issue, connected my phone to a USB 3.0 port to backup some date and was shocked at how fast it supposedly charged up to 100%. I used a 3 y/o cable from an old Galaxy S3.
USB 3.0 has nearly double the power output of USB 2.0. So that could have something to do with it. Using a different cable or slightly torn one won't make a difference. The battery percentages also aren't the most accurate all the time. Your battery should be fine.

A USB 3 cable going to a standard USB 2 micro port? No voltage difference.
---------- Post added at 11:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:06 PM ----------
When using a standard USB cable the port does not matter.
I do think the calibration of the battery is off. I've had it go from 93 percent to fully charged on my qi charger just a minute ago, and yesterday twice, once on the turbo charger and an usb port on my laptop. I fully drained the battery the first day, Friday, and I think either it's still learning or the calibration is off. It seems to show it draining quickly the first sixty percent, then really slow down the last forty. Now I don't like letting the battery drain too low, decreases the battery life and capacity, hopefully it learns or next update clears this up.
This also happened to me on a usb3 port, but with the original cable. I jumped from 88% to 100% in about 5 seconds. This can't be right. Has to be a bug.
I don't think this is related to faulty chargers/cables. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday using my car charger for the first time (that I've used on 10+ other devices without issue) and the phone shot up to 100% in a few minutes. Ever since I used that charger all my other chargers that were previously working fine (turbo, qi, etc.), are charging the phone too quickly as well. I hope someone can figure out a fix for this, or an update comes out soon. I just wiped my device and set it up again, I'll report back if it's fixed.
I had this issue, I killed the battery thinking it would fix the issue when It charged, It did not. I factory reset and that also did not fix the problem. phone would show as 100% charged even when really only 3% charged. I ended up getting a replacement from VZW store.
Update - replacement phone from VZW is doing the same thing, only charger that I have used is a TYLT qi compliant wireless charger. (shows 100% for 6hrs)
Also are you guys on system version 21.21.12 or did you take the update?
Same issue here. Started today. Had since release. Exclusively use Tylt Vu charger. Have latest update. On Dalvik.

Mostly same here. Used the Tylt Vu exclusively, then used the Turbo charger once or twice. Phone was stuck at 100% for twelve hours yesterday, dropped to 93% after reboot. It appears confused as to what it should really be at. Seems that the Tylt Vu is the common thread here.
Fixed mine! after holding the power button for about 20 seconds the phone will shut off, I then charged the phone with the Turbo charger overnight which reclibrated the battery meter. This has not happened again since doing this.
Hope this helps!

This also solved the problem for me, thank you!! (I had also plugged into a usb3.0 port before this issue occured, hope they address this with a patch or some kind of fix).
I'm also having strange battery problems the past few days. The other day, randomly around 4pm I happened to notice my battery said 97%...just not possible since it had been off charger since 6am.. Yesterday, battery showed 35% and then died 2 mins later, powered off. Tried the power button for 20 and charged overnight, but on my qi charger I woke up to it only partially charged and not charging anymore. took off and put back on charging pad and it charged some more until morning. It seems the battery isn't calibrated and not showing the correct readings...anybody else? (oh, and it's a samsung charging pad)

unplug it from everything, hold power button till it shuts off, it will then show an accurate % reading. Plug into the turbo charger that came with it and walk away for an hour. Should re-calibrate and get you back to normal (assuming the issue you're having is the same as ours). this worked for me. good luck!

Sorry, needs to be plugged into turbo charger, I told you out of order, my bad.
plug into turbo charger, hold power till it cycles on it's own (you'll see the real %), leave plugged in and walk away for an hour.
Solved all of my problems, good luck!
(seems like this is caused by plugging into usb3.0 ports, and possibly some qi chargers. I use an lg qi charger overnight and have not had the issue. It happened to me when I plugged it into a usb3.0 port on a laptop).
great! this worked for me! thanks!
Well for me I've had this bug since day 1 and none of the fixes are permanent -- there's a bug in the software on Moto's side that needs to be dealt with. I posted a thread on Moto's support forum in hopes of raising the profile of this issue cause it's a showstopper for people like me who rely 100% on Qi.

Hi all,
I've had this same issue and I'm not sure when this happened, but I certainly noticed it immediately after using Qi charger for the first time.
Can we confirm if anyone on this thread had this issue by using a wired charging device, or whether this issue is synonymous with Qi charging?

Fast charging is gone

Anyone know what I have to do to get fast charging back? I have the option enabled in settings. The cord is good, my wife's phone fast charges just fine with it. I've soft reset the phone, cleared cache, and just about any other option I could find on the web. So weird cuz it was working fine not too long ago but just noticed now that I can't get it to work.
Try cleaning the usb port on your phone. i had the same problem, just cleaned it out with air.
Thanks but been tried that. I work in Audio/video so that was one of the first things I tried.

Are you able to mount the phone as storage on a computer, or able to access a USB with the OTG adapter? The charge port on this phone isn't the most robust and a few people have had problems with then failing.
No issues with any other stuff except fast charging. The phone charges fine but just say fast charging and takes forever. It's so weird cuz in my car my phone would barely charge when hooked up to USB in console, but then soon as I lost fast charging at home it started fast charging in the car. I just don't get it

Well luckily normal charging and USB still works so it's not the worst. At least your battery will last a little longer now?
My advice would be install an app like accubattery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery
It will show current when charging.
Fast charging being displayed by Android only seems to indicate fast charging is enabled rather than actually occurring.
I find when fast charging is occurring with standard Samsung charger, but not original cable it will show approximately 2800 mA.
It did seem to be below this rate a few months ago when ambient temperatures were higher and battery temp got above 36 °C
I also bought an unbranded charger cable that has an led that illuminates bright when high current charging and dimmer when charging at lower rates.
Probably defective . I've read issues on here about fast charging no longer working and it had to be repaired by samsung.

It was. Now I am a bit skeptical about this USB-C port thing. I take good care of my gears. Especially this one that cost me an arm and a leg. I want to do a survey if all the manufacturers' type-c port is prone to get damaged like this easy!
I would take your device to a Samsung Service Centre and let them take a look at it.

Anyone having wireless charging issues?

I only got my phone last week but I'm already seeing an issue where it will stop wireless charging. If I'm just using it for a while and then go to put it on the charger and it will not charge or indicate that it's charging. I have been keeping a simple Spigen case on it but that doesn't seem to matter - did the same thing case or no case. I also tried multiple wireless chargers - same on all of them. It's definitely aligned properly too.
I do have Battery Care turned on (custom, after 10pm) - but even when that is active it still shows that it's charging and everything functions as expected. And this has happened outside of those specified BC hours.
A restart seems to bring it back - but something is up given that it's happened a couple times already in less than a week. Anyone else seeing this?
I'm just waiting for it to happen again before reaching out to Support.
Follow up: it just did it again this evening.
I wanted to avoid restarting the phone just to see if I could get it working again. I tried a couple chargers again, no sign of charging at all. I went into Battery Care and turned it off - still no charging. I plugged a cable in to charge and it worked normally. I waited a couple minutes, removed the cable again and then tried a wireless charger again and it worked this time!
I'm leaving Battery Care off and have now restarted my phone again. Will see how it goes for the next couple days.
I also found this thread on Sony's forums: https://community.sony.ee/t5/xperia-1/xperia-1-ii-wireless-charging-stopped-working/td-p/3686459
I'm not sure he was having the same issue though, as it appeared his wireless chargers at least detected the device and tried to charge - they just couldn't establish the connection to do it. Though his solution did sound like it was the "custom" option in Battery Care that may be the culprit.
It did it again this morning. Plugging a wired charger got it to work again but I've emailed Support now. This is dumb. Will update with any additional troubleshooting or possible solution.

Multiple chargers. A 15W Anker charger, a 3 coil Ikea charger, a generic 10W charger at work, and a Pixel Stand. As it's happened I usually have multiple chargers around to test, so I've tried any of them available. Temperature hasn't appeared to matter. I definitely have not had the phone "hot" when trying it but I have also waited like a half hour or so to try it again thinking about potential temperature issues.
I also posted it to Reddit this morning on /r/sonyxperia and someone responded saying that there's a new update from Docomo that appears to call out a fix for wireless charging occasionally not working. So I'm hopeful that might be what I'm experiencing. Still waiting to hear something back from Support.

I use one from Belkin. https://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F7U083/
When I use the phone heavily and it's sort of hot it doesn't charge for a while. Once it's cold it works flawlessly. I have the US version, latest firmware. And an addition to that is my Spigen case.
only thing I noticed is that it is very picky about positioning, as it is a long phone it easy easy to miss place

Adaptive Charging Issues

Has anyone with a Pixel 4a 5G managed to get Adaptive Charging to work properly?
I know it only works at specific timings.
Ok, so say I set my alarm for 7am and I put it on charge at 10.30pm, it states that it is Adaptive Charging and will be fully charged by 7am.
However, when I awoke at 2am it had fully charged already.
Google stated to try it in safe mode which I did but it was still the same outcome.
Is anyone experiencing the same?

yes, slowly, but at the same time the battery charging process is not interrupted, so even at low amperage, the phone can already charge at 2-3 a.m. (4-5 hours after the start).

It's not that simple.
Charging for the right amount of time and at the rate charge current will make or break your battery over the long haul.
From a pixel 2 user with a bad battery from overcharging.
Now that I have the 4A 5G, which came in the mail today, directly from Google I guess I'll dare to take a heat gun and try to pull the Pixel 2 apart (which I guess is quite difficult without breaking anything) and replace the battery ... but I sure wish that I had had either A one of those USB chargers that shuts off automatically or B that the phone had adaptive charging of some sort.
Michael
This is what Google states. To me it was sold to users completely different to wait they say now.
