System Image ? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

What's the purpose for System Image ?
When I wanted to backup ROM, I saw there was a partition called "System Image".
I'm wondering whether can it be deleted and merge with system or data partition...

I guess its your cache partition since that shows up as 0MB.

That's a good question....i don't think its cache partition, too big for that i think. But disk info app didn't show any partition with that size, so maybe its only a twrp bug?
Maybe anyone here can explain? Or anyone can confirm that this partition must not included in backup, to get well running system after restore?

The system image partition is the partition that your OS lives in. It's 3gb in size. The system partition is showing the amount of space your OS is currently taking up.

So you can't delete the system image partition. You also don't need to back it up. Just back up the three that are already check marked.

[Q] CWM Question

Hello fellow XDA people's..
I've got a noobish question for you lol, if I were to format the system and factory reset, would I lose my nandroid backup? I can remember doing it on my TF300T and I lost my backup. So I'm curious to see if that's normal, or was the file order was messed up on the tablet. Thanks.

In CWM data factory reset or format system will not wipe stored backups afaik. If you format the sd card you will wipe everything.

if you format your sd-card you will loose all data on it, even your OS, and you will have to sideload a new ROM. if you only factory reset your OS your backup folder should not be affected.. but i recommend to copy the backup folder to your pc before you do anything..

Sure, we have here a huge amount of guides/tutorials/knowledges that we can share with our member
hubix posted a great guide about how to flash a sotck rom:
Here it is , you can ask if you face any kind of problems
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
The important, the correct drivers successfully installed in your PC/laptop, the correct Odin for our device (GT-s5830) and the official firmware that you want to flash and finally follow the steps in prompt C
Code:
[B]C. Flashing the newest firmware:[/B]
1. Turn off your phone
2. Remove your SIM Card and SD Card
3. Extract previously downloaded firmware
4. Open ODIN 4.38 on your PC and change OPS file name to
Code:
[CODE]
Cooper_v1.0.ops
5. Select from extracted archive: OPS-OPS, Boot-APBOOT, Phone-MODEM, PDA-CODE, CSC-CSC (leave EFS and One Package empty)
6. If archive contains only <filename>.tar.md5 select it as PDA and OPS as OPS, leave other fields EMPTY
7. Connect your phone via USB into PC
8. When the screen is turned on hold POWER+VOLUME DOWN+HOME and wait until the phone enters the Download Mode
9. If ODIN detected and recognized your phone should light up the first square to the left side
10. Press "Start" button and wait, the process should take ~5 minutes
11. If all goes well your phone should reboot automatically
12. Square should change the color to blue and display "PASS" it means that flashing process was successful and we have the newest firmware
13. Disconnect your phone
14. Turn off your phone
15. Insert your SIM Card and SD Card again
16. Turn on your phone
17. Now you have the newest firmware! [/CODE]
After flashing process you must boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset and cache partition via stock recovery in order to avoid the bootloop
flashing problem

According to MiniTool Partition Wizard, yes, I have 1 FAT32 (about 30GB) and another Ext3 partition. However, the device doesn't read it, and I cannot partition through either TWRP or CWM. I'm testing Cronmod on CM10.1 now, will update.

TWRP or CWM should not be used to create a new ext partition if your sdcard already have another ext partition. Meaning you should have only one ext partition in your sdcard. So delete the ext3 partition and the fat32 partition, then create a single new fat32 partition on the 32BG sdcard. Now use the recovery mod to create the ext partition. That should work. Between Link2SD and CronMod, I would always go for CronMod. Then again its my opinion. Any way if you have any problem, just post here and I'll be glad to help

You should know that CronMod and Link2SD doesn't work together. Since CronMod is present, Link2sd can't find the ext partition. What is the size of your ext partition. What rom are you using now? For every 512MB sd-ext partition you need a 100MB space on /data. So please limit your sd-ext patition to 1GB max.

As a last resort, try to reflash this rom. Make sure to backup all the data. Take the rom file, extract it, put 40int2ext file inside /system/etc/init.d/ and then compress it back. Now go to CWM, do "Wipe Data/ Factory reset", "Wipe cache partitions", Mount & Storage> "Format /system" and "Format /sd-ext", Advanced> "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Wipe Battery Stats". Now reflash the custom rom. This should pretty much solve it. Restore all the necessary data.

I've tried that already, and the device went into a bootloop. However, I used GParted to partition 777MB sd-ext, and the rest FAT32, and it boot up after flashing CM10.1 > GApps > CronMod INT2EXT4
The only problem was that the memory remained the same, and Partition info showed /sd-ext (EXT 0.00B/0.00B)
EDIT: For some reason sd-ext doesn't mount, but formats perfectly.

Encryption... Again...

Here is a story: I'm not a fan of jumping through hoops to access my own damn phone. I wiped my internal memory TWICE to remove the encryption. And I removed it successfully. I was not encrypted.
Today I made a backup, flashed another ROM, didn't like it, restored my backup. And then I went to TWRP to flash another ROM. It wasn't a stock ROM. It didn't have forced encryption on the kernel. And it asked for my encryption password. Again, the phone was unencrypted. So I booted into my system, went to settings, security, and sure enough, I was encrypted.
I did not tell it to encrypt itself. And I do not know the password. And I'm pissed to be locked out of my own internal storage for no ****ing reason.
So the question: How the **** am I supposed to tell the phone to unencrypt the internal storage that it had no business encrypting in the first place? Because I'm sure as hell not wiping my internal storage AGAIN unless there is absolutely no other alternative.
And how the **** do I tell the phone that I DO NOT WANT encryption EVER on this phone?
default_password doesn't work. I cannot flash anything. If I boot up, set a password and tell the phone to ask for it when booting, it doesn't stick. I reboot and no password is asked, the set password still doesn't work in TWRP. So what do I do now?
There's no way to decrypt the phone completely without wiping. However, you can save most of your data.
If you take a nandroid of your phone while it's encrypted, decrypt it, then restore that nanroid afterwards, the data is restored decrypted. Unfortunately, TWRP will not be able to save anything in your /data/media folder, so you'll have to manually backup that folder yourself. You can pull it using adb. Just remember that when you put the /data/media folder back on your phone after wiping, you have to give it the correct r/w permissions (I don't know them off my mind, but I'm sure you can find them somewhere online).
I'm not sure which ROM/kernels forces encryption, but I usually root immediately after flashing a ROM, which generally prevents encryption
Edit: I may have misread your post. If you can't access TWRP, you're rather out of luck. Maybe try pulling all the data you want to keep using adb while your phone is on? You could also try sideloading the ROM that you flashed before it got encrypted. It may restore the libraries required for TWRP to decrypt.

I ended up using adb pull then wiped. I lost nothing, but I'm no longer encrypted. For a while at least...
I'm using 3.0.4-1 from the thread, not the one from the TWRP website.

Whenever i wipe cache and dalvik cache it say's in the end "Unable to mount Storage"
Someone please help
You have some partitions encrypted.
Decrypt your phone and try again.
Some ROM have encryption activated, initially.

Mmmh it seems, that you can not.
please go there and read:
http://forum.le.com/us/index.php?threads/issue-whit-leeco-update.2383/
In addition you should also google for "android encrypt" or perhaps for "android 7 encrypt" ?
This feature exists already since Android 5...

Please read this thread:
Indian stock ROM LeMax2 EUI 5.8 15s
/data is encrypted with a factory password
-> no way to make it accessable for TWRP.
so you need to copy the content and after that, you need to wipe this partition

I had done that earlier when i flashed TWRP for the first time and after that nothing like this showed. I am seeing this again after updating it again to 3.1.0.
So i will have to factory reset it again to make itwork properly?
And do i have to do it every time i update my TWRP?
And also what all should i wipe?
Should i wipe my whole phone storage?

the stock boot is always checking of /data is encrypted or not.
if /data is not encrypted, it will start encrypting while booting.
decrypt key is not known.

You will never have access to /data with TWRP,
if you can not provide the correct password.
This password is set by the manufacturer and not public yet.
If you boot the system you will have access to /data.
If you boot the TWRP you will not have access to /data.
This is not related to any update..

Believe me or read the other threads regarding default encrypting Android versions..
/cache is cache
/data is all your userdata and apps
/system is the os
/boot is bootloader
/recovery is the TWRP
there are more mountpoints, you can see them if you click on mount in TWRP.
I wrote /data encrypted and you wrote /cache wiping.

Also it doesn't ask for any password or anything just says unable to mount storage at the end while wiping cache and dalvik cache. I havn't flashed anything since some time soo can't tell if flashing ROM will work or will it show some error.
But a few months ago NO error was displaying and everything was fine

You think, it's perhaps related to TWRP version?
Well then you can boot the version before or another version w/o flashing...
Guide to start TWRP remotely
enable OEM unlocking in developer settings
boot into fastboot mode (power and Volume down)
fastboot boot twrp.img
TWRP chinese version
You need to switch the language away from chinese.
Other TWRP versions are listed here
