[Discussion] Micro lags in OOS 4.0.2 - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi All,
To everyone who is on nougat oos now with stock and stock based kernels, do you experience micro lags while playing music and videos? Like just a small pause, maybe else than a second. I use power amp and YouTube. This also happens when playing video on quick pic, or typing. And its becoming annoying now since I can notice it everytime I play a song or video. Could anyone else confirm?

Yes. I use blackplayer ex and my songs skip sometimes when im listening to music on my bose soundlink 2 via Bluetooth.
I'm on 4.0.2 as well.

Zero issues here. Running 4.0.2

This happens to me only when I am using Saavn app with screen off. The song just stutters once and then everything is normal. I had no issues with YouTube though or even when typing. Did you do a clean flash of OOS?

It happens to me even when I am totally using wired headphones.

Yes, it was a clean flash. But I can't blame the apps because they are popular and no one else reported this. Maybe only I'm facing the issue?

Thanks for responding. I need to make a clean flash again and then test. But it's highly unlikely that a clean flash "again" will solve this.

Are you using any kernels and related mods? May happen because of it also..

It happened on stock kernel first. I flashed a custom kernel but this also persists with the custom kernel. Seems like something in rom or stock kernel sources.

Not necessarily true. I always wipe everything on my internal storage and never experience all the problems everyone else claims to have. The roms I have experienced is fast and smooth. Remember, when a ROM is developed, it is not created on a device with old data from previous roms and third party apps. If you want the ROM to do what it is supposed to do, one should try to emulate their environment since there is absolutely zero way for them to emulate yours.

Try doing an absolutely clean install, wipe everything on internal storage and restore old data one app at a time until you locate your offending app or data. The ROM is quite stable and smooth. I have been involved with IT for over 30 years and whenever a new server was built or upgraded, a backup was done, followed by a clean install in order to eliminate as many issues as possible. I am currently on a stock ROM, 4.0.2, rooted with substratum with a memory hog like Facebook and it's messenger app, as well as others, and I still scored 157,630 on my OP3.

Wiping internal storage is not an option for me, i don't simply have the time to do that honestly. But i'l definitely do a clean flash this weekend. The apps are the same that i'm using from MM days as i rarely use a new app, but the issue is definitely new. I will report back after performing a clean flash.

Then it isn't truly a clean install. Do a complete Nandroid backup. Why can't you do a backup? Do you have a Google account? All your apps and pictures are saved to their cloud and if you do a manual backup, all your data, is saved and can be restored as well.

I understand your point man but i don't have the patience and time to copy almost 40GB of data from phone to computer and then back from computer to phone. That's how my lifestyle is. This is the reason i don't play with custom ROMs or kernels that much.

Then perhaps the issue is not a OnePlus software/hardware issue, but rather a user issue. Something to consider.

Some of my friends who upgraded to Android 7 Nougat have been experiencing Lags, app crashes, etc including op3 and other phones like nexus etc. this issue is with Nougat itself oos 4x is build on Nougat so, obviously oos 4 will have these issues.

I have a weired issue. My phone wouldn't let me use jio for calls if I turn off the data.
It should still allow me to make calls however moment I turn off data for jio, it loses network and shows no service

No nightly's?
Hi,
I am currently on the Liquid Smooth 20.10. go, but I am surprised that no new versions are on the go. Is it so that only a new Nightly appears if there are changes?

Hello,
When i charging my battery power off, i can't restart with the power button.
I must remove my battery for restart.
Somebody have this same problem ?

cannot install liquidsmooth rom
i'm still new in installing roms. i was able to install rxtreme rom, i would like to try the LS rom. i downloaded the latest nightly rom, and it prompted installation aborted.
i compared the rxtreme rom that i downloaded, it was 1.2gb. but for the LS, it was just over 200mb. i hope someone here can provide me detailed instructions on how to install Liquidsmooth rom on my s3 i9305.
systemui crashes
Hi guys,i just installed the rom and after the reboot i enter the pin code and that message about systemui pops up every 3 seconds.
EDIT:SO i installed the previus version and everything seems fine exept some random camera issues and the notifications
swipe to left functions most of the times doesnt work or maybe it has to do with spesific apps. Can i upgrade to the latest nightly version without doing a hard reset?

Read the instructions at the beginning of this thread. It's all there.
It is a little different to rxtreme.
You will need to download the ROM and GApps. I'd download Milestone version - read earlier posts for location.
Go to recovery, flash the ROM then GApps.
Hope all goes well.

Yes, but its not case of the rom, it's case of the old battery on any AOSP/CM gave me the exact same problem, I buyed a new battery and no more problems, it's all ok.

Review of the liquid smooth i9305 ROM 4.4.4
I've been using this ROM for the last four months and my verdict is...
...it's ****. S. H. I. T.
So bad that I've gone back to the stock ROM. Maybe it's because the i9305 is a relatively unknown phone (compared to the i9300). Nevertheless it's evident here that little effort has gone into research and testing of this ROM. Here are all the issues I came across during my usage of what is the most terrible android experience I've had.
Battery life: This ROM basically chews up the battery faster than a fat kid in a candy store. Seriously sit back and watch, throughout the day, as battery percentage slips lower and lower until it knocks itself out. And then that brings me to the next problem,
The phone will not charge when the battery is completely dead (phone off): That's right the phone has to be on, before this ROM realises that it should be charging the phone.
Camera: The camera will take about 4 shots, sometimes 10, if you're lucky before it completely fails. The only way around this is by performing a soft or hard reboot. Super fun when you're at a party and when taking a group image, the camera ****s itself. Even with third party camera apps the problem persists.
Microphone: I don't know how a ROM could possibly **** up the microphone, but this ROM succeeds in doing just that. Any recording performed sounds like a 1950s CB radio. This is an experience that you force on everyone you call by having the audacity to use this ****ty ROM.
Multiple Application Incompatibilities: Several big ticket applications fail to run with LiquidCrap. For example Skype refuses to initiate and Viber will not make video calls. That leaves Google Hangouts which for some reason decides to induce a 4 second lag in every word in your conversation.
Video playblack: Wow a custom ROM that refuses to easily work with flash video. The developers solution here is to force you to use dolphin viewer to browse and run some flash mods to work. Unfortunately none of that works. And it's not just flash that refuses to run. Any HTML5 gif or video will not play. Then there are some videos where only the sound will play but nothing else. Good luck watching anything on youtube which is not accessible by the youtube app. Which surprisingly works well.
Random restarts: Oh were you typing in something important? Would be a shame if I just...restarted right now.
Screen Rotation: Lags.
So if you're 13 years old and get a kick out of changing colors in status bars; by all means get this ROM. If you actually have responsibilities and need your phone....to work. Then avoid this ROM at all costs. Hell, avoid every custom ROM for the i9305. Unless it's a slightly modified stock Samsung. This as this there's less chance that something is royally ****ed as in the case here.

Hi Guys! Im fairly new, I only flashed about 10 roms. Using this rom for 5 days now, I have a lot of problems, bugs. But I want to give it another try, because I heard very good things about this rom. so...
garbled "mosaic like" graphics on locksreens notifications only when Im moving them with my fingers
garbled notification bar icons when running tinder
strange scrolling in play/own apps during app updating - app rectangles in the listing seems to detach from the scrolling background, moving slower/faster.
various gfx glitches too fast or short to recall
camera is unusable, ugly FCs, "cant connect"s, even reboots, or phone freezed up for several seconds. using power button release seems to make it worse.
it was clean install, full wipe (FR), + cache before and after flashing. (Philz Touch)
installed:
LS-KK-MileStone-3.2-i9305.zip
Liquid_gapps.4.4.4.build.8.1.zip
I came from stock KK, it was the NEE version (I9305XXUFNL1_I9305NEEFOA1_I9305XXUFOA1_HOME). and some others before that.
Can I make an "even cleaner" install...? Can it be some things left from other roms causing these problems?
Or any advice, so it would work like on your devices?
thx in advance
ps: sorry for the previous post

Have you had any luck on sorting your problems out? I've found this ROM to be amazing.
It's fast, smooth and everything works well.
I've played with lollipop ROMs but they have issues so keep coming back. Though when aicp 5.1 is sorted, it is a decent option; very fast and smooth.
Anyway I am using TWRP 2.8.5.0 recovery and stock kernel that came with the ROM. I do a full advanced wipe them factory wipe. I also use SuperSU.
If you're still having issues you could store your files in an external SD card, totally format your internal storage and start again from scratch.
Hope that helps.

Hi! thx for the answer, but I did everything, apart from I left below. What do you mean by total format? How its done, with what app, and how the carrier/region etc related content is put back after that? I have latest philz touch, and I do dalvik+cache+full wipe before AND after each flash. Im not concerned about my files, everything is on ExtSD and cloud.
Yes the rom is much cooler than CM for the first look, but after 5 days heavy use I got serious problems just like the angry guy mentioned a few post above. after I moved in all my apps and stuff, it lost its smoothness, FCs, and hard battery drain with hot phone.
But the main thing was after I wrote my post, I realized that this rom is not maintained anymore, which is a problem for the 9305. U gotta use what is maintained, so the last day was so bad with this rom, I went back to CM immediately! Which is a dream in simplicity, speed, and battery life, and the latest only few days old!
of course Im still interested in the total format you mentioned, and in this rom, if it gets sorted out...

There are different ways to fully format your internal drive but you will need to backup any important data files to your SD card first. A full format will wipe it clean. I don't use philz these days but from memory you mount system, data etc and format them. Other options are files like those provided by Agni developer for F2FS will wipe it clean as well. As I use twrp it is different again.
I've been on this ROM for months now. It's fast, smooth, no FCs, and with decent use through the day I get 2 full days out of the battery before a recharge.
I use Greenify app, turn off fast dormancy and if there are drainage issues it's generally about finding the rogue app. Titanium backup is another must have app to backup and restore apps. It makes things so easy.
It's not maintained as you say but I don't see that being relevant; it's a well cooked 4.4.4 ROM! You can use other options such as F2FS +/- ART to tweak performance.
The only ROM I'm playing with at present is the 5.1 aicp which is super fast. Only had bug with Apex launcher my launcher of choice.
Have fun! Cheers

Help me please

From 2 months I am trying to make roms for ubl work on my phone, but they just don't. I have a super slow phone when I install them, very unresponsive touchscreen... Please I have no more things I can try. In these two months I tried everything. Locked bootloader roms are better, but they still aren't that smooth and after a few hours I need to restart the phone, because I get unresponsive touchscreen again. I really want kitkat on my phone, because stock sucks too much with so low ram. I beg you guys for help. I am exhausted of trying and trying

Please calm down and don't spam the forum with copy paste posts everywhere as it won't get you anywhere.
Regarding your problem, if you think LBL roms are better then why don't you stick with them as they are equivalent to UBL roms in every aspect. I am on MrSteve555 M12 and can say it is smooth as silk, so what's all the fuss about?

Never seen this lag in the slightest.
I also have lag in the menu in the ui. Maybe it is from my phone? It is a little noticeable lag. Phone is working alright with 4.3, but with 4.4 it sucks

Ive run PA, Omni, PAC and CM11 and none of them have lag on quick settings or settings once the ROMs 'settled in' which is usually a few hours after install when everythings run and updated and synced fully. Is this lag happening for you on a clean phone with minimal gapps and no other apps installed?

Use a small gapps package. It does wonders, as long as you do the following steps in the correct order:
1. Format /system.
2. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache.
3. Install ROM.
4. Install Gapps.
5. Reboot and leave the phone alone for at least half an hour.
6. Run through set-up (if required)
7. Leave phone alone for another hour.
8. Enjoy.
Google Search seems to be a big problem for performance, even on Nexus phones. The easiest is to get a package which does not include it (Velvet.apk it is called, and it is found in /system/priv-app).
I recommend Paranoid Android's 'pico' gapps. Google it to find the post on XDA by TKruzze.

I really want a fast phone. The moto g is so fast and smooth, but my phone isn't even with any rom :crying: I can't do anything more. I tried everything and I gave up after 2 months and 50+ hours flashing roms and trying and trying different ways

I will do the formula you told me. I will flash stock .ftf then I won't boot the phone and I will flash williams kernel v7 just to get recovery. I will start the phone and go in to recovery. I will do the formula you told me with cm11 build by mr. Steve and I will hope the formula will work

I remember running LagFix off of the Google Play Store. Someone recommended it to me. What it does is it enables TRIM on your /system, /data, and /cache partition, which, in theory should work and improve performance two-fold. It applies to the SP, which uses NAND flash to store these partitions and therefore would suffer from the afore mentioned symptom.

Don't worry if the CyanogenMod set-up app is REALLY slow, crashes, or skips steps, it happens to everyone, because the cache rebuild hasn't begun yet.

Try MrSteve build, if it fails then I guess it's a hardware issue
Sent from my Xperia SP using XDA Free mobile app
I sort of think that it is all with your mind. If you like, would you share a video showing the "lag" you've mentioned in those mentioned areas (notification sliding lag, settings lag) if you are currently running CM11. I would like to actually see it.
I would like to see a video recording of your phone by using another camera, not a screen recording or cast directly from your ROM.
With your video, people will finally could see how the "lag" is and decide if it is the normal lag, or supposedly a problem of your phone.
About touch screen sensitivity, I was unable to find a thread about the same problem (the one before you started a solution thread). I've searched like mad through the General forum. It contains a build.prop modification fix. If you could get me a link to it, gosh I would appreciate it so much and will show you to the right direction

I will try the formula. If it doesn't work I will try to film a video. Maybe it is a hardware issue, because when installing apps wtih 4.3 rom phone laggs a lot and on 4.4 does the same, but the lag is much lower when installing apps

I did all those steps. I get same performance. Maybe this is not lag I am not really sure
With themer apk its nice and smooth and also beautiful. I have from time to time touchscreen sensitivity problems. Any fix? Like 1 hour phone is goot after i lock it and unlock it touchscreen gets unsensitive and I need to restart

Have you tried LagFix yet? Run it and see what happens.
Plus don't use themes unless you wipe your cache afterwards: the theme modifies SystemUI.apk and therefore the cache file is incorrect.

No I haven't. Will doing so also fix foldermount? And where can I free up the most space in this phone? It's only a few hours old
Getting rid of most of the google apps. They can get redownloaded. Facebook can go, it's an old version. The VPN app, lumen toolbar, mobile ID, and boost app. I use links2sd plus and that really frees things up. I have about 25 play store apps I downloaded. Hope this helps!

I haven't tried FolderMount or Link2SD. I've got CM11 with Pico Gapps installed and have more space than I can trow a stick at. Of course I don't have that many apps downloaded to begin with and most of the apps that come pre-installed are ones that I don't actually use.
Back when I had stock space was a problem, but after rooting, and flashing the kernel I removed most of the apps and most of the HTC ones and the default Google installed apps tried to re-download so I turned off automatic updating. Now with CM11 that's not a problem. The only problem that I have now is the camera's (back and front) aren't working. You will loose the front facing camera with the kernel and then the back one as well with CM. Rbhermax is working on the kernel. Apparently on the 64bit devices the cameras are working but on the 32bit devices (which is what we have from Boost), aren't. Last I heard he was still working on it and I think they're also working on CM12 build so this may not be an issue for very long but currently it persists. I'm very anti-Sense but I'm very pro-camera, so I'm conflicted.

Just got done talking to rbheromax personally actually. He is very much working on the camera, and overclock as well! Seriously can't wait.
I did install his kernel and debloated as much as I was comfortable with but upon checking Storage there's inexplicably 2.98gb being taken up somewhere under 'Other'! Wtf?
Also spoiler alert...CM12 hates him lol

Haha. I'm quite certain that the CD/driver thing that happens when you plug in the device to a computer is stored on the phone and that's also taking up space that you could serve to gain if you can find it, can't imagine that it takes up that much space though and I didn't wait that long to find out where it is though. Yeah, from everything I've read, CM12 is giving every maintainer a headache. The stock on the phone is kinda ridiculous I had to constantly delete app data/caches when I wanted to install apps because they fill up fast.

Found the culprit. It's mostly being taken up in /system/lib and /system/private-app. Apparently the odex files are much bigger than the apks themselves in private-app and libs you could expect are probably important.
I'm thinking of creating a deodexed/debloted stock Rom (boost specific) much like I did for my AWEsome Rom for the ZTE N800 on AndroidForums. My only snag might be if it would actually flash in tarp or not. I'll run it by rbheromax and see what he thinks

While we're on the subject of cm11 issues, I just went back to nonsense rom after experiencing seriously diminished wifi connectivity. Not sure if it was the cm11 kernel or rom that was causing it, but it was that rather than the cameras that made me give up on it (for now of course). Other than that it's beautiful thing and can't wait for a stable version.

No matter what I do, I always have problems

hello all, ive just been having these issues, their always random, either its screen of death, random reboots, google services f/c'ing, it doesnt matter what rom i flash, or if i fastboot back to stock, nothing changes, theres always "something" that goes wrong. I've tried, and tried and tried but something always seems to be messed up with this phone. I dont know what im doing wrong, I've been flashing roms for years and never had so many problems, except, I had these same issues on the nexus 5, same thing.
anybody ells going through this? or is it just me?
i have both nexus 5 and nexus 6, i know both of them very well, is there anything i can help you with? ive figured out solutions to the majority of random things theyve thrown at me..
Thanks for the help. Well, every rom i try has browser f/cs, google play f/cs random reboots sometimes it reboots and wipes cache for some reason. Sometimes its like system ui f/cs so it just does a "soft" reboot, i have audio issues even on stock, like when i get a call, the ringtone starts out real quiet then boosts all the way up, sound is distorted over 50%, i tried to up my voltage by 15mv global and that didnt help anything..... Im not sure what to do, i already switched out the phone once, i think im at the end of my 15 day byers remorse period

Ima jump in here and try to provide a helpful response.
The nexus 6 is the best device I've ever owned beside my beloved g2, I did have to get my nexus 6 replaced the second day I had it because of a battery issue, but no problems ever since.
As far as the Gapps force closing, try using a different set of Gapps. I prefer to use the latest version of the multirom twrp and always use Banks Gapps(pm me if you can't find them.)
Only onn two, maybe three, roms have I had soft reboots/blackscreens/systemui closes. And most of the time they can be solved with a different kernel and a bit of tuning with an app such as faux123 or kernel auditor.
Audio problems can be hard to fix, but let's make sure you can distinguish the problems from the features. An example of a common misconceptions is the audio "clipping" or "lagging" when rotating the screen. This is a feature, it is swapping the left and right channels to keep the audio correct. There is a build prop line you can edit to diable this.
The phone ringtone volume steadily increasing is also a feature in most roms, including stock. It can be found in Settings>sound and notifications> and somewhere near the vibrate option.
Sound distortion is a problem I suffered from on older roms. I eventually started using viper4android on ALL of the roms I install with the superior audio driver (power drain is unnoticeable). All the settings are super easy to use, and easy to discover while playing a song and listening to the differences. Just make sure selinux is set to permissive.
I don't think increasing/decreasing the voltage can be any good for the hardware. If your car says "premium only" then you shouldn't run regular or racing fuel, you should stick to what was intended to work. You can kill battery life, starve the cpu/gpu, increase lag and overheating when messing with voltages.
Try this.
Go get the LATEST version of twrp, go find the Pure nexus rom and download it and Banks gapps, also go find francos kernel and download the latest release.
WIPE EVERYTHING TWICE (cache, dalvik, system, data) and install ROM>KERNEL>GAPPS and reboot into your super stable phone!
Message me for anything else!

what bin number does your phone have? try raising your cpu, inly at your highest cpu, by 20-30mV more. about it wiping the cache, what build android are you on? it used to do that to me all the time, but not since android 5.1.1 hit aosp.

Thanks for the info. As for the google f/cs, so far that was only on one rom, and i havent had it since. Only browser f/cs are what im dealing with now. As for the sound. I understand the differences between the features, this is not a feature, i know what you mean by increasing ringtone, my issue is nothing like that, its not like, the sound slowly gets louder and louder... It starts out real quiet, and then BOOM full volume. Sometimes the speakers pop a little. Its weird, because it only does this the very first time a sound is played, if i have for instance, touch sounds enabled, and go through my ringtones, i dont have any sound issues. But if i turn off touch sounds, then go back to ringtones, the very first one i select will be reeeeal low.... And then BOOM full volume. This was the very first thing i checked when i switched out phones, and the very first time i tryed it on the brand new phone it did this very same thing. I just assumed it was a known issue.

bin number? do you mean BUILD number? I have the tmobile variant of the nexus 6, before i started flashing roms, the first thing i did was download the factory image of 5.1.1 for the tmobile version, which is (LYZ28E), then i found the unenforced encryption boot.img someone posted which is the same boot.img, I unlocked, flashed the stock 5.1.1 image, unencrypted the device, then went on to flashing roms, right now, im on cyanideL which is LYZ28E, and so far, ive had two reboots, one of them had wiped cache by itself apon rebooting, same sound issues, same browser force closing, i even tried chrome, which force closed the second i loaded a web page, other than that, taptalk, g+ hangouts all work fine, its just these 3 or 4 same issues with pretty much all roms

well, its definitely getting interesting. I just tried optipop, and my sound was working normaly! but to my amazement, it was very laggy and system animations werent working correctly, if i backed out of a screen, sometimes it would slide down, sometimes the creen would just flash white and would switch to the last screen, if that makes any sense. I got the same thing as all roms, no network, but i went and searched for networks and it failed, but then my network signal popped up, and when i tried it a gain, tmobile popped up.
so now im trying tremindous, and its doing the same thing with the network, im testing everythnig ells now.

Nexus 6 requires rebooting every day or so as it slows down to become unusable

I have a N6 purchased Dec 2015 new from Amazon. The only mods, if you can call it that is, I have unlocked the boot loader. I am currently running N6F26Y sideloaded via ADB.
The phone was great when I first got it but now after about a day or so of usage it becomes slow and sluggish and unresponsive I have to restart it to use it. I have done a factory reset a couple of times which gets it back to normal for a week or so and then the problem recurs. Occasionally I will delete the cache which also helps. Snapchat is one of the worse apps - crashes the phone regularly and is a very slow app.
Also the camera can get very slow often taking seconds to take one photo.
I love the phone but it's becoming unusable now. The contrast between this and a new phone (I have purchased a Moto Z) is like night and day. The Moto Z runs instantly, has no lag and is a nice phone. But what I like about the N6 is the large screen which makes it great for videos etc.
Short of perhaps flashing some custom ROM is there anything I could be doing?
I'd recommend flashing a rom like pure nexus, super stable that should fix your problem, otherwise you've done all you can and is the easiest fix

It seems like some apps are really slowing down your phone. I use my N6 at home for web browsing mostly as I have a Pixel XL now. Just like you I love the screen size.
The camera has always been slow fore, because of the time it takes to focus...
Did you try using your phone a few days without Snapchat installed? Maybe you also have other misbehaving apps installed.
Uninstall Snapchat and other apps and start from here. Reinstall one per one with a few days interval. See if the issue still occurs.
Installing a custom ROM + kernel will likely speed up things a little bit. I second @Dugaldrob with Pure Nexus and I'd suggest ElementalX kernel on top. Running this combo on N6, N6P and Pixel XL and they work flawlessly.
I don't believe installing a custom ROM alone will fix your issue though. Stock ROM shouldn't cause the phone to slow down to the point you need to reboot to use it.
Finding the culprit will...
Good luck...

Thanks
First step is to remove Snapchat. I rarely use the app and only because my daughter sends stuff on it. I am going to tell her to send me stuff via another method
If that doesn't work then it's a new ROM. I have performed ROM installs before but have never flashed a new kernel on a phone before so that will be a new experience. Hopefully I won't brick the phone

Hello,
Don't worry, it's really easy. Also, if you are lost, there must be a ton of tutorials in general section. If you are lost yet, just ask and someone will point you in the right direction...
Good luck...

I've been running Pure Nexus and wanted to let peeps know I put Nitrogen on and man it's so smooth, my wifi tether is back and I went to sleep last night with 50% battery still. When I installed it I opted for the nano gapps I think so like 175mb for minimal apps and maybe that's why it's running so efficient. Maybe I could have re-installed Pure Nexus with a clean install and it would have gotten better but it was a good time to try something else. Also when Nitrogen got an update I was notified just like stock and it downloaded. I didn't even know these could do that. Anyways give it a try and you might just switch back. I was looking into new phones but if it keeps working so smooth with battery longer than a day then I'm fine for now.
Snap chat is not that big of an issue. What I have found to cause the device to slow down is normally almost full device storage and a crappy cache release code in apps. Some apps don't release their cache properly. So it causes lag. This is why a reboot seems to fix it.
While a custom rom may fix this issue it is not the solution. The proper solution is to find what is causing it and fix/repair/ditch it.
Worst offenders for crappy code in my thoughts. Other will disagree with one on this list I am sure. So don't bother. I know people swear by it. It runs like crap for me at times and causes my whole device to lag until I close it out.
1 Facebook
2 FB messenger
3 Google Chrome ( don't do it lol)
4 whatsapp
5 Hangouts
Mind you this is just a list on my usage. It may very per user and even device (considering different hardware)

I can confirm this, because I've removed these apps (-whatsapp) and also decrypted the data partition...
My N6 is fast.
Maybe a lite stock ROM and an other kernel is a good start.

Currently I have FB, FB messenger, and Chrome but when I installed gapps I chose a super lite install so tons of bloat and google apps were not installed and my battery has gone way up and it's so smooth. I'm sure even when we don't use apps they're always doing something in the background. I bet you're right and a stock lite ROM would be good too with the minimal bs apps.

Thanks for the advice. Of the list of apps above I have only Chrome and Hangouts. I really can't see replacing either of them.
I also should have pointed out that the phone locks up randomly requiring a hard reset. I wonder if an errant app could cause that or I have some RAM problem. Certainly on a PC bad RAM can use in Windows a blue screen or something but perhaps Android isn't so forgiving?

I would flash TWRP, flash supersu in TWRP to root, make a complete backup in twrp, then remove whatever Google apps you're not using with a system app removal app. Getting some of that bloat off the device should help. If it's still laggy, then look into a custom ROM. I run Tesla on my Nexus 6 with none of the issues you're having. I don't decrypt it either
Running abdroid 7.1 here. I dont get any slowdowns, at leas until the battery doesnt drop below 50 and 25 percent.
Im running a custom kernel and my phone is rooted. Everything else is stock.
Can you flash a custom kernel and presumably TWRP without wiping the phone? If so then might try that before a custom ROM

Hello,
Since your bootloader is unlocked, flash TWRP and install the kernel, no problem.
Might give you a slight boost at first sight, but your device will likely slow down over time anyway...
Cheers...
I'm on 7.0 with the April SP. I have dozens of apps installed, including Hangouts. I use Firefox for browsing, I like it better than chrome (and you can install an ad blocker).
My camera slows down when the battery is under 40%, and the whole device slows dramatically, though not unusable, at or below 5%. But otherwise, no issues what so ever.
One solution that I have not seen suggested here is resetting the device and NOT taking the Google account backup of all your apps. I would suggest making a completely clean install of the factory rom you have and installing one or two apps at a time, most important to you first. And do this for a few days/weeks until you find the app that's misbehaving.
Although there are general bad players out there, this bad app could be unique to your device. Just because all devices of the same model have the same specs and components, doesn't mean that there isn't variability in parts quality.
I would do this before trying any new roms or kernels. Find the true problem first.
Good luck!
edit:
I had another idea: Go into your battery stats and network stats and storage stats and see if any app seems to be using too much of any, or all of the 3. This may get you the answer more quickly.
