Casting NAS stored music to home stereo - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hello All,
I have a Galaxy S7, Western Digital MyBook Live Duo NAS, and Yamaha TSR-7810. All connected to my LAN and working well. For normal functions.
I use Pandora and Yamaha MusicCast to play music from my phone to the Yamaha and all works well. I can even access all of my files on my WD drive
But i cannot play any music stored on my WD NAS through the Yamaha. Neither Pandora or the MusicCast apps can see the WD NAS drive.
I do not have root on my phone. AndI don't have enough storage on my phone for all of my music.
I am able to use DLNA on the Yamaha to find and play the media files on the WD NAS, but it is SUPER SLOW!!
How can I cast music from the WD NAS to my Yamaha usingmy Galaxy??
Thanks,

Media Streaming

I'm just wondering if there is a way I can stream media (music mainly) to my phone over WiFi, similar to iTunes sharing, or Windows Media Extender kind of setup, so while I'm in the garden I can have a little music.
While I adore Spotify, I don't really rely on it enough to pay £120 a year for the service. And my own collection is nearing 80GB, so no hope of fitting it on an mSD card.
If anyone knows anything about a program which does that, well that would be swell if you could let me know.
I've found a sevice called Android Storage http://www.androidstorage.com, that allows you to upload files, then stream them to your Hero. Their apps can be found on the market.
It's not available yet, but a team of developers is working on creating an app that will add DLNA media streaming support to the Android platform. http://htcsource.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=689&Itemid=56
once released, the software should allow you to stream files to and from your Android phone to other DLNA capable devices (PS3, TV's Computers, digital picture frames).
Just the ticket. I'll be watching that closely, being able to stream stuff to my PS3 is it's best feature.
If you're talking about streaming media from your computer/laptop over Wi-Fi to your phone, then give AndroMote Remote Control a try.
I have the Pro License and it works great for me. (I do the same with my PS3, stream videos and music over the network)

How do I stream from Cloud to DNLA player?

I have put all my music on Google's Cloud based Music Player. I used to have it on the microSD card and then using AllShare I played on my Phillips Streamium WiFi speakers. But now that it is in the Cloud I don't know how to do that (and yes, I wish I had checked before uploading). I have noticed that Twonky has settings for music in the Cloud, but I can't figure out the URL for my music files at Google.
Has anyone been able to move their music to the Cloud and stream it to other devices?

WDTV Live

So, I have the WDTV Live with our library of movies And TV shows stored. Its very organized and took a while to setup. I have the min folder dividing the TV shows and movies.. Then the TV shows divide by series.. Then by season.. Then have all the metadata and such for every episode. The movie are divided by genre And have also have All the imdb data and cover art etc. I have been wanting to be Able to extend the experience to my wife And It's bedroom and into my daughter's bedroom. I can not justify paying for 2 more SMPs with Netflix and all nor can I justify getting a smart TV in each room Either. What I am wondering is a couple of things.
1.) If I'm reading this right..I understand that I can setup my WDTV and PC and that on plex media server... Then download this app on my wife and I's phones, then also on my daughter's nabi... And I could stream Media to all the rooms using this setup from the WDTV? (most of my media is mkv I don't know if thisnisngood or bad)
2.) If I do use the plex app on chrome cast is there a way to on my daughter's nabi to setup parent controls so that she only has access to the kids movies genre folder?
Thanks guys

Is the WDTV a server? I didn't think so I thought it was just a Player Box (but I could be wrong). Plex would do the actual server work for the rest of the house anyway.
WD has a MyBook Live device that has a Twonky server built in. (perhaps WDTV has something like this as well for hard drives connected to it via USB.)
Regardless of the WDTV capabilities if you have a Plex server running you could stream content to any device in the house (TVs Tablets and Phones) plus use the Plex App to send it to a Chromecast enabled TV.
But I looked and I saw no Parental controls on the Plex Server unfortunately. I don't believe the App has it either.
I have seen it requested in the Plex Forums but that doesn't mean it is coming soon.

The WDTV LIVE is a player with a built in TB hard drive, apps like Netflix and all of that. And has built in Wi-Fi and networks with my PC or other similar devices. I want to be able to play the files stored on it as cheap as possible.

Like I said I'm not 100% familiar with that box...If it has a DLNA server built in then no need for Plex Server at all unless it doesn't transcode and your library is not Chromecast compatible (MP4/H264/AAC), Just use aVia and you can send content to the Chromecast or wait until a Better player comes along (like MX Player) that has CCast capability.
Not sure how Parental control will work but if WDTV does this it is possible that it will work over DLNA as well.
You probably wont get any of the WDTV apps to work over it though. But then again the Apps your likely to want are already available for CCast (like Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and YouTube)
There is no way of controlling it from the WDTV however...At least not until WDTV comes out with an App that supports CCast.
Which may very well be on the way for all I know.
Not sure how to make it work if the HD is connected directly to the WDTV.
I have a similar setup, but I store my files on a network drive that the WD has access to. As the previous poster mentioned, Plex running on a PC on your network would allow you to access them thru the Plex app on any Chromecast.

Q: any chance of streaming from local pc but use my phone to control?

There have been many great apps to stream local media on PC/laptop to chromecast. But what if the PC is not in the same room with your TV?
I have got a laptop upfloor connected to the network with cable (can connect to wifi if necessary), so I don't want to carry it everytime I want to cast something, or going upstairs to pause and resume playback. Is either one of the following scenario achievable?
1. run some kind of server on my laptop so I can access the media using my phone, then I use my phone to cast media(local on laptop) to chromecast.
2. cast the media from laptop with chrome browser, but then use my android phone to do simple playback control, e.g. pause, resume, fast forward the video.
Any chance a combination of server + app can do that?
Check videostream extension for chrome and videostream app to ocntrol playback
Plex is great for this too
There are 999 thousand ways to do this
I prefer using BubbleUPnP. Just google it.
I am using XBMC media server on my pc and Yatse as a remote control for xbmc on my phone. This setup supports among others Chromecast.

How to use chromecast audio offline

Hi
I have a pair of Corsair sp2500 speakers that are currently connected to a logitech bluetooth audio adapter. I'd like to replace the bluetooth with chromecast because bluetooth compresses audio and reduces quality. I have a WiFi network that i would be using however i dont want to use google play music on my pc to stream the music to the speakers because i would have to stream the music from the internet and the internet connection isnt very good around here. Anyway, is there an app, besides the google chrome extension, that would allow my pc to play local audio files without using the internet? I dont want to use the google chrome extension because that would require pasting the file locations into the address bar in chrome.
Thanks!
Geza
HDMI convert, easier cheaper to just by the audio cast.
