Thanks to amaces, lanchon and the TWRP team I've got Marshmallow installed and working on my Nook HD+. All seems to be well, except for a problem with the audio: it will play a music track OK at first time of asking but if I pause playback and then resume it the audio is choppy. It seems to repeatedly and rapidly stop & start, or maybe what it's actually doing is repeatedly dropping fractions of a second of sound - it's difficult to tell.
If I pause music playback and play a video instead the choppy audio problem carries over to the sound on the video: the video looks fine and plays back smoothly, and although it sounds awful the audio seems to stay in sync with the video, in the sense that sound doesn't obviously over- or under-run the accompanying moving image.
Using MX Player to watch a video, if I switch from HW to SW decoding and back again it seems to fix the audio.
The choppiness also seems to go away if I just stop using the tablet for a while - but it comes back as soon as I play/pause/play music again. The same goes if I restart the tablet.
Any clues to what's going on and/or how to fix this? I can't find any other references to this problem so maybe it is just me...

Do you remember which version of CM you were on? Was it the last CM13 version by amaces, i.e. cm_ovation-ota-MOB31K.161125.zip?
I am still on CM13 and would like to hunt down the source of the bug.
I do have the 160819 build stored, so I will start with that

Yes, the problem was occurring when I was using the 161125 version.

I was able to compile an unofficial LNOS 13.0 build for ovation where I fixed this error by applying this fix

Did you find a solution to this? Did you change a rom that fixed it? I'm experiencing this same issue.
No, I never did manage to get it fixed - in the end I just stopped using the Nook
It's possible that ajislav's fix does cure it. If you get hold of his ROM and find that it does fix the problem, I'd be interested to know.

I had time so I installed https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3693886 lineage-14.1-20171216-UNOFFICIAL-ovation.zip with gapps 7.1 arm from 12/30/2017 and instantly opened a video in the default gallery app and it plays just perfect. I have the 32gb hd+.

I love cm9, and i know it does have bugs yet to be worked out, ie the wifi (I just toggle airplane mode and wifi on and off till it works, hbo go (I just watch it from the internet vs the app icon, Hulu plus ( well I have yet to get that to work. My main issue though is with the sound I can no longer listen through the head phone jack while in android, works fine in webos.
It will mute the sound, but I get nothing from the head set, also if I am streaming pandora and the screen goes off I get static sound in the background while the music is playing, bring the screen back on an the static goes away.
Is this a known issue can't seem to find anything on it anywhere
I'm having this problem aswell (so far only on youtube) but is it an inherent bug (like camera) or something that can be fixed by tweaks or procedures or different cm9 versions
I thought I read somewhere that if you put in your headphones before starting the application that the sound will be coming from, it will fix this issue...

This is a known bug with cm9.
Hey all, so I just saw jester6's port of hashcode's CM10.1.
I looked through both forums and I was wondering if anyone knows if MX Player still has bugs regarding playback and audio output.
Also, if anyone has any info about audio playback in general on the CM10.1 port, I'd appreciate it, as the last time I installed the rom I got no audio whatsoever.
Here's the link to jester6's port.

Audio plays in all three ROMs just that every once in a while it mutes out or becomes choppy, its all due to all having same base cm10.1
Sent From TabletUI using Tapatalk 4 beta
Yeah, audio is fine, on the odd occasion it'll cut out but to remedy that all you need to do is press the home key and then use the recent apps button to reopen the app in question. Bobs your uncle...
Noticed some people have rebooted instead to solve it but its unnecessary.
Hi
I had a strange thing happen yesterday, it seemed that video playback went into double speed and also music playback did the same. This happened on Facebook, Poweramp, system notification sounds (I only use the built in ones) and the built in video player. I did not test this on any other apps, everything returned to normal after a reboot.
Has anyone else experienced this.
I had the same thing happen to me and "fixed" it by rebooting. Have no idea what caused it though.
I will add I am on thunderrom 2.1 and sky high 1.2 (when it happened, now on 1.4) so it might have been a bug in the rom or kernel...
Playback at high pitch....
I too have had this problem, I hope a reboot will cure it xxxxx
Actually, having just done that, it now works properly. Thanks for the advice. ..?

Audio spikes when playing VBR audio files
Heya, first time poster here.
I've noticed that my Note 5 can't properly play audio files with a variable bitrate (So far I've only tested mp3 v0). It's totally random, but anywhere between a second to a few minutes, you can hear these really annoying popping or skipping sounds, like you were playing it off a scratched up CD. Again, I'm only seeing the issue with mp3 v0 files. Any audio files with CBR don't seem to have this issue. I can tell it's definitely some kind of software issue because of that fact, not to mention it happens with both the built-in speaker and through the headphone jack.
I've tried multiple audio files, as well as multiple audio playback apps. I've tried restarting the phone, and even a factory reset. I have a feeling that this won't be alleviated by simply exchanging the phone for a new one, but if I can't find a solution by the time my two weeks are up, I'll probably end up just turning it in anyway.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I've also tested those same audio files on a Galaxy S3 and S5. Neither phones had any apparent issue with playback.
If anyone out there is willing to test it out on their Note 5, I'd really appreciate it.
So I just exchanged my phone for a new one, and I'm still experiencing the same issue. Surely SOMEBODY out there has noticed this problem by now?
You're not alone I'm experiencing the same issue. I'll be testing the same files on my girls phone since she has the same one to see if its a universal issue with the device. Hope there's a solution found soon.

First of all, thanks heaps for your post. I have the same issue.
I noticed the popping this morning and spent the day dreading having to send the phone back. Your post reassures me the problem is not just my unit.
I'll do some more investigation later as to exactly what works and what doesn't. For now, I have an MP3 that reliably 'pops' at the same place every time and a FLAC version of the same song does not pop. I'm assuming a software update will fix ...
Confirming chirps/clicks/pops/cracks audio issues during VBR files playback using either the pre-supplied Google Music or Google Player download - BlackPlayer on Samsung Galaxy Note5 SM-N920C.

Also confirming no issues using Poweramp (Trial) v2.0.10-build-581-play.
Same issue here. Has anyone found a way around this?

Read 1 post above yours. Last line.
Shame that the only workaround seems to be using Poweramp. I download/stream files off Subsonic and prefer to use that player for convenience as it downloads one track ahead of where I'm at, rather than needing to pre-load or download it all and then play to poweramp.
Guessing there's no fix for this yet aside from Poweramp?
I have the Note 5 from Verizon and mine does the same exact thing. I'm so annoyed I'm almost thinking of swapping it for a dreaded iPhone. I don't feel like re-ripping my 500+ cd catalog because my phone can handle VBR. C'mon Samsung... with all the useless features you cram into the phone you can't handle VBR MP3s?

I have jcsullins cm11 ROM running on my touchpad and I have an issue. I have tasker playing white noise from 12:05am to 8:30am while I sleep from a gig sound file and some nights the sound stops outputting sound on the touchpad and it will not output any sounds until I reboot. Anyone ever lose sound on this ROM or other ROM? Is there another way to get sound back other than rebooting?
I have run some additional tests by using apollo music player with a song on repeat and after about 8 hours the touchpad stops outputting audio.....the only way to get it back is to reboot......can anyone else test and confirm this is an issue?

I've had audio issues with my touchpad, and it has been regardless of the android system i've installed. The audio will work for a while then go silent. it always requires a reboot to restore it. Sometimes the sound will last only a few moments, and other times it will last 10 minutes or so. I've been unable to solve the problem.
The only way i can get it to be reliable with sound is to boot to webos.
Damn I wish someone could solve this issue
HP_10_Tablet
I have HP_10_Tablet on the office rom. It no sound from speaker but the earphone is work. I think the both speaker are gone.
