Mystery Data Usage - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My data usage shows the majority of my data coming from "Android OS." Is it normal? Can I limit it?

My wife, son, daughter, and I all have Nexus 6. Daughter's is stock 7.1, wife and son is CyanogenMod 13 (6.0.1), and mine is LineageOS 14.1 (7.1.1). This happened to my wife and son a few days ago, but not to my daughter or me.
Googling reveals that plenty have experienced this in the past couple of years. So not a new or particularly rare thing. The suggested solutions often involved installing firewall software. Another was to turn off sending 'Usage and diagnostics' (Settings / Google).
In Android 7.1.1 (not sure if 7 or 7.1) you can 'Disable all cellular data access' for things. Sadly, that doesn't help the affected devices in my house.

I'm pretty sure this started when I switched to Cricket. I don't remember anything using data like this does when I was on MetroPCS (T-Mobile).

I'm certain that it isn't carrier related (I'm guessing that "Cricket" and "MetroPCS" are carriers?).

I'm going to strip it all down and reinstall the ROM.

[Q] Problems with my unlocked Bell HD7 (t9295) on AT&T

If you don't already know, the unlocked Bell HD7's 3G bands are the needed bands required for AT&T (850,1900). I received my unlocked Bell HD7 from Negri Electronics today and I was super excited to get it going on AT&T here in The States but ran into a very weird problem...
Basically, I can't connect to 3G/HSDPA/EDGE internet. Now, the weird thing is that it SHOWS I'm using AT&T and that indeed I am on HSDPA (see pics below). Calling and messaging work fine BTW. If I want to do anything requiring data, the 3G/HSDPA/EDGE connection won't work and I'm forced to use wifi.
I'm tired of hard-reseting and flipping switches on and off... I just hard-reset the bastard one last time and now I wait for your advise. What do I do? Thanks in advance

Since it runs on the Bell firmware you must enable the data roaming. In the first pic that you posted it looks like you have it off. Give it a try and report.

can you post the "More Info" result ???
try downloading "connection setup" from the marketplace in the htc apps section, run it and you should be good to go.
B"H
Seems silly, but did you actually setup your APNs?
Not sure I saw that in the pics.
Good Luck,

[Q] Sprint Public IP and LTE issues

Does anybody use the Sprint Public IP add-on for their plan? I turned this on to use tethering for PS/Xbox, but when I try using any custom ROMs, LTE does not work. I get signal for voice with the exclamation point, but then drops to 3g. Stock works perfectly fine, but no custom is working for me.
Edit, just additional info, I've tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51308741&postcount=276 and I've tried the sprint fix zip. I also tried restore stock backup, get data and restore custom. None work except stock based.
I know this is an old thread so I'm sorry for resurrecting it but I'm on a nexus 6 with stock software (except root) on nougat. It's 2017 and I'm having this exact same issue and I've been through multiple tiers of support with Sprint and they can't figure it out. I'm hoping someone knows a fix to this. This is the only thread I could find that has my exact same issue.
Was about to start a thread about this issue, instead I'll just resurrect this one.
I have been trying to figure this out for months now. The only think that may point to the cause I could find is in the modem packets to and from the tower. Soon as you apply Static IP the tower rejects it saying your not subscribed to this option, thus denying LTE/3G attachment with the tower. Here is a screenshot of the packet, I have gotten so far as to have an official ticket opened with sprint, and emailing countless photos to them to help them diagnose it, they do not seem to have any idea whats going on.

I do use it a lot, it just seems unusually high. It's normally below screen, but not in the past week.
Having the same issue as you. On Nexus 5 though. Android 5.1.1.
Some websites are saying people are facing this issue when they're off wifi and using mobile data. I am always on wifi though. Uninstalling all Chrome updates fixed this issue for me, although now I am on a much older version. Let me know if you found a better fix.

Factory reset did the trick, but don't know how long that will last.

Here's what I did yesterday and Chrome has been really good for the last 24 hours which has been the longest streak so far.
Uninstalled all updates, cleared all data, installed the update, then opened it and logged in.

With you on that one. This phone has to have one of the worst sleep battery drain I've seen. Seems like an unfinished product with unpolished crappy software

Agreed
I'm surprised there has been no software update with the gs7 series there were quick updates
Looks like the same bug from gs6 and gs7 are still present
Android os usage went down after I disabled wifi calling rather set it tp prefer cellular
LOL. Im a S7E user and I came here to read up on the new Note before I blew an Upgrade on Demand on it. The first thread I click on and it looks like the same battery problem still plagues it to this day. If you all are looking for a fix then I'm sure the S7 fix I posted a few months back will work. You can look throug my profile to find it. It should fix the "stay awake" issue.

I have no problem on mine, about 4% drain during 7 hr sleep. Once I disable programs I don't use I'm hoping for 2% drain, the same I'm getting on my old phone. I do manually kill programs I don't use often and I don't have any sync, auto updates etc. so that helps.

Location settings with Android OS 9 update issues?

The setting for MOBILE NETWORK only locations is missing. Anyone know if it's just buried or did they take that setting out completely? Just got the OS 9 update a week or so ago. Medium battery saving still has GPS running. Battery drain is starting to happen. US AT&T Snapdragon version here.

I believe you can access it here, well for just GPS only.

Miscommunication going on with Limey. I do NOT want my GPS on at all but I found the article above already. No way to turn off the gps where you sent me. WTF GOOGLE?! Some of us do not want high accuracy turned on all the damned time. It sucks your battery life away! I went from more like 26+ to less than 20. Think about all those people out there that don't have 4000 Mah batteries? They are going to be @SS out if luck!
