I rooted my HD+ over a year ago, but stopped using it due to its sluggish performance. Yesterday, I decided to install a new ROM to see if things would work better. I did back up the old ROM using CWM before I started plus I had two other backups including a backup of the native NOOK ROM (so I have three sets of backup files: Original NOOK system, and two different versions of CM (probably both 10, but I'm not sure). Anyway, I was unable to get GApps to install yesterday so I decided to just recovery a previously working ROM.
So I went into recovery and recovered back to the second of my three recoveries and got the Nook to reboot, and it was working. However, I had intended to go back to the native NOOK ROM, so I reran recovery to my original back up, and it failed to work. The Nook kept cycling back to recovery mode reboot option. So I ran recovery a third time, and tried to go back to the second of my three recoveries which worked a just a few hours before. I started the recovery last night and went to bed.
When I woke up this morning my Nook screen showed a fully charged battery logo. I unplugged the Nook from the power and it failed to boot. I tried holding down the power button to reset, holding the power and "N" button to reset, took out the SD card and tried both. Tried both with SD card in and out and Nook plugged into a Windows PC via USB. The screen remains black no matter what. The only response I get is that when I hit the power or "N" button when hooked up to a PC via USB, I get a message on my PC screen that says "USB device not recognized".
Any suggestions?
New development. I unplugged the Nook and tried once more to restart by briefly pressing the power button. A logo flashed on the screen showing an uncharged battery and a plug, which I assume is telling me I need to charge the Nook. However, it showed the battery as fully charged when I unplugged it this morning. Anyway, I plugged it back into my power cord and will see what happens. I'm really not too concerned, as this device, other than as a book reader, has never performed very well for me at all. Surfing the web was always very frustrating due to slow performance, stalling, etc. I'm just hoping to make it usable so I can give it away.
Update 2
Nook has been on charger 2.5 hours screen still stays black after pressing power button. Light is orange. is it possible the battery is bad after such a long time (about 2 years) on non-use?
Update 3 - and I would still like some advice. Please.
My Nook finally booted into recovery. It behaved as if the battery was not charged, and I'm not sure why as it was plugged in overnight.
I did a wipe & factory reset then reinstalled the last working ROM I have Files were installed in this order:
1. NookHDplus-CWM-6046-for-internal-memory-rev0-(07-13-14).zip
2. cm-11-20150209-NIGHTLY-ovation.zip
3. pa_gapps-modular-micro-4.4.2-20140426a-signed.zip
I then rebooted and CM11 is installed and working again. Thank you leapinair and others.
When I used this version of CM11 before (back in 2015) it eventually became sluggish and stalled at lot. It was very frustrating to use.
Can someone direct me to a source of a better ROM and Gapps? I tried installing twrp and these files:
1. cm_ovation-ota-NMF26Q.161222.zip
2. open_gapps-arm-7.1-stock-20170212.zip
but it didn't work for me. I'm assuming I have the wrong files or combo of files.
I would really appreciate some advice and download links to better ROMs and Gapps. Thanks in advance for any useful advice.

I'd suggest you try the LN14.1 build lnos_ovation-ota-NMF26Q.170104 ) available at https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/1/3480156918) and open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-2017[mmdd] (available at http://opengapps.org/).
You should be able to use your current CWM recovery to flash twrp-3.0.1-0-ovation.zip (available at https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/1/3332706778), then reboot into the newly flashed TWRP to perform "wipe /data & factory reset", and then flash the LM and GApps zip files.

FWIW, I've been running LN14.1 builds for the last couple months and am fairly happy with it. See this thread for issues/quirks that have been reported.

My sincerest apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I've searched high and low in Google and XDA without result.
I recently rooted my P3 and then flashed CM10. Took me a few goes (first time 3G wasn't working etc.), but each time I factory reset, wiped cache and dalvik cache before and after flashing. I eventually got it working just fine, except for the battery not displaying properly. It always said it was charging, even when it wasn't, and it wouldn't charge to 100%, instead stopping at 99%. I used the battery calibration mod, and tried to wipe the battery stats via CWM recovery, but to no avail.
Other than that, and the auto rotation flipping to the opposite side you turn (I understand this is a known bug), everything was running smoothly so I decided to do a backup via CWM recovery. Once everything was completed I booted back up. It all was working as it had before, until I tried to power down. The screen went black, but shortly the Samsung Galaxy splash screen came on and it booted up again. I tried wiping the cache and dalvik cache, wiping battery stats, but it still will not stay powered down. The only exception is when I have it plugged in and charging, then it will stay on the battery charging animation instead of rebooting.
Any help would be much appreciated. I really don't want to have to revert to base CWM after tasting the awesomeness of CM10!

Which version are you using? It was a known bug in an older ROM, which should have been fixed in the newer ones.
Using the 20120816 version that I got from the link in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803593
I've also had this problem for awhile, with several different ROM's.
Does fastboot work for you? Cause it doesn't for me, but not sure if related.

Are you using the correct recovery? Not sure that you would be able to get as far as you if it were wrong but ...
I caused myself heartache at some point as a result of using the wrong recovery. It gave my weird results too. I am other 16 Aug ROM and I find it pretty damn good.
Here is the right one

I got the recovery from the same thread I linked above, so pretty sure it was the right one. Just to be sure I downloaded and flashed the one you linked with Odin, but it's made no difference. However, I have (finally) had success in getting the battery to charge to 100%. I kept wiping the battery stats every time I booted up, and powered it down while plugged in and left it on charge when I wasn't using it. After a couple of days (with it on and off charge) it finally said it was fully charged when I powered it on. I have used the battery calibration app with it at 100%, so hopefully it shall begin indicating properly, although it still says it's charging all the time, and the charging animation when it is powered down does not indicate its actual charge level.
As for it not powering down when it's not plugged in... I am still new to rooting and ROMs, but would it be of help if someone who has no problems powering down uploaded their kernel and I flashed that?

I would recommend you re-download and re-flash it, since others (myself included) have no such problem with that version.
Didn't work. Redownloaded, reflashed, same problem. I even tried to unroot it so that I could flash it all again fresh, but somewhere along the way something has gone wrong. Odin is not working anymore. I can transfer files to and from my tablet, the computer still recognises it when plugged in, and Odin recognises the USB connection too, but if I try to flash something with it, it always says it is unable to open the COM port.
Tried this many different ways, with different roms, nothing seemed to work. Finally, tried AOKP milestone 6 (based on CM9) and it works perfectly. Go figure...
Hello. As per instructed, I have search the threads, but haven't found anything like the problem I'm facing. Most can get to recovery or hand on the cyanogen loading. As such I am posting this query to see if anyone can help me.
I have been using Cyanogen 10.1 emmc on my new B&N HD+ tablet for about a week now, installed by following the guide found here. I made sure to make back up at every step; before flashing Cyrogen, and after. Anyways Yesterday, the tablet refuses to boot. I can press the power button, the Nook hd+ and connect it using usb, but the screen remains blank (black). It never gets to the nook screen or the cyanogen loading screen. I have tried to restore a backup, but no matter what I do, I can't get the nook to boot into recovery mode. I have tried 3 different boot sd, but none bring up the loader, not even the one that work when I first installed Cyanogen.
I have drained the battery completely and recharge it about 2 times now and I have held down the N + Power methods. I installed TWRP as a replacement over stock recovery mode. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,
It seems that I've made a stupid mistake when re-calibrating the battery for my HD+: my battery was not shown properly before, when there was 3500 mV it shows 1%, but I forced the calibration anyway, so I think now the machine regards 3500 mV as 1%. The thing is, after I turn it off, I'll never be able to turn it on again because it will only turn on when the battery is 5% or higher, which will never happen. Does know how I could change it back again please, like writing a standard batterystat.bin back into the machine again? The ROM is CM10.1.3 btw. Thanks a lot in advance!

Any ideas guys?
I've never recalibrated the battery, so I'm not entirely sure how it works. However, why not reset everything on your Nook whilst you still can? So go back to stock, then do a reset by failing to boot up 8 times.
So, firstly download the Nook Stock ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 It's on step 6. Also download plain stock, so that it is NOT rooted.
Once downloaded, burn CWM onto a SD card. Copy the NookHDplus-factory-2.1.x-plain-stock.zip to your SD card, after burning CWM. Now, insert the SD card and restart your Nook.
It should boot into CWM. Here, flash the stock ROM. Once flashed, reboot your system. Now do the following to reset your Nook back to factory settings:
Turn off your Nook;
Turn on your Nook;
Immediately after turning on, and you see the text "Nook", hold the power button until the device turns off;
Do the above steps eight (8) times.
Make sure you keep a note of how many times you have done the above, to ensure you have actually turned off the Nook 8 times. What doing the above will do is, it'll hard-reset your Nook back to factory settings. After 8 times, so on the 9th go; turn it on, and it should reset everything.
I hope that solves your issue. Again, I've never recalibrated the battery, so I don't know if it's a hardware change or software. All the best.

One correction. If you are going to do the 8 failed boot procedure, you do not need to download and flash my plain stock zip first. It gets overwritten by the 8 failed boot reset anyway. Just do the 8 failed boot.
But he said he could not get it to respond, so not sure the 8 failed boot will work without installing plain stock first. But if he does install it first, he does not need to do the 8 failed boot, just factory reset with CWM and everything should be ok.

Hi HiddenG,
Thanks a lot for your reply, unfortunately this method does not seem to work. I can't turn it on, not even to the screen showing Nook (remember, the machine thinks it only has 1% of battery), so all I get is a charging symbol if charger is connected, or nothing if not. Do you know other way to wipe it back to factory settings please?
Thanks again.

Hi.
Since yesterday my galaxy s3 lte i9305 does not boot anymore, the blue cyanogenmod logo keeps turning for hours. I can however still go to the recovery (which was a few month old cwm). I completely wiped the phone (both caches, data, internal sd, boot, firmware etc ... all but the modem) and reinstalled the newest cwm and the newest nightly build three times now using heimdall and the external sd (connected my external micro sd to my computer sd card reader via adapter and put the zip on it). Just now I installed twrp-2.8.5.0-i9305 as a new recovery and installed everything again, but everytime - and also now - despite the seemingly successful installation, the phone is stuck at the cyanogen bootlogo.
Any ideas on how to get my phone running again?
Cheers

I would try a factory reset from recovery and see if that helps. You did check the md5 for your downloads right?
Otherwise I would install the stock rom, then try again, this time(making sure you have a compatible recovery) just wipe caches, data, and format system, and then install CM

I did do the factory reset. I just wiped the areas separately as well. Anyway, I took your advice and installed the latest stock rom. Now I got the Samsung logo slightly flashing blue for hours instead of the cyanogenmod logo. Did not do anything else.
I suspect that its a battery issue in some way. The last weeks the phone lost its charge very quickly very often (not constantly though). Yesterday, the phone was in my pocket and then went off. It went into the constantly trying to restart despite the lack of batteries state until I removed the battery. Maybe that gives any clue?

Try booting into stock recovery, then factory reset from there. Last time I went back to stock I had a bootloop until I did this, then it booted properly. If that doesn't work, maybe try new battery.
Have you tried booting up whilst plugged in to a usb charger?

Thanks for your helpful input.
I did what you said, even tried it twice now. Phone is still booting after 20 minutes now. I also tried booting up while charging the phone, yes. That was my standard procedure actually, but nothing changes when I unplug it. I don't have a different battery and I am wary of buying one just for the sake of trying. Tried that when my galaxy s 1 broke down and that didn't save the phone. At this point I am contemplating if the phone (s3) is broken now or not. It still reliably boots to the recovery, but it doesn't do much else. How are the chances?
Or has anyone any idea on how to proceed?

Try to boot into recovery. Do a factory reset then boot straight into download mode and flash stock rom. You might have to redownload the firmware it could be corrupted.. If that doesn't work then you might have to send it in. It might cost about to fix. Or go to your local phone repair shop and see if they could fix it for cheaper

Hi! I do hope someone can help me getting back to installing a new ROM on my Desire 500.
I had an old one lying around and decided to root it. This is not the first time I have done this. I followed the guide in this forum and so far it has been very helpful, thank you! I took all the steps up until installing a custom ROM. Did a full wipe, extracted the ROM to the right folder on the SD card and went into CWM to restore it to my phone. However, CWM linked in the guide does not seem to support restoring from external storage, so I proceeded to flash TWRP onto the phone. Version 2.6.3.0 was recommended in the guide so that is the one I used.
After booting into recovery, I found out that I cannot use the touch screen, thus rendering TWRP useless. Now I would like to install a version of CWM that is compatible with external SD cards, but I cannot get out of TWRP because of the screen not working.
I found a few threads recommending a hard reset, but no matter how long I hold down the volume down and power button (I did this for over 2 minutes straight), the phone does not turn off. I also saw this strange advice to do this under a very bright light, but this also does not seem to work. Removing and re-inserting the battery just immediately puts me back into the locked TWRP screen.
How do I get back into fastboot so I can flash a new recovery image and get rid of TWRP?

Remove battery, wait 15 minutes. Press and hold first vol- and after power button. Install this recovery

Same problem for me BUT I have an internal battery so would I honestly have to screw open my HTC One M7 to reset this? Waiting for the battery to drain is a waste of a lot of hours having to press vol every minute to leave the screen on
