Evening:
I thought there was a Galaxy S forum here, and if there is, then apologies for not finding it and posting there. Just want a simple, honest and definitive answer. Can the Galaxy S5/AT&T bootloader be unlocked? I've read far too many "conflicting" posts and most were more than 2 yrs old(posted).
THANX:
Rick

First read the sticky threads (you would have seen this should be posted in the Q&A thread) and then spend a week reading all other threads (it would have answered your question). In the end, whether you need to update something is all up to yourself and your preferences...if you're wondering whether to update: don't do it. Updating is only done when you have specific reasons to update (speed, other features, skinning, newer stuff).
Furthermore... search the forum - you will find a howto too
Good luck!
Regards,
Nika.

Now, I waited a lot, holding myselft from replying to such a question in order of not being taken for a "noob killer".
The fact is that your question is far more dumb from being a noob question and people here have all the rights of feeling irritated seeing how much lazy one can be.
You ask me why?
Simply explained. I am at work now, at the coffe machines, smoking a cigarette. I have 15 minutes pause, and in those 15 minutes, look how many links I found related to rooting our phone:
General http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098059
JB Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2180688
JB Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230934
ICS Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818502
General root concepts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
And last, but first in order of importance, the link to our Question and answers section, where the very first answer is about rooting a p880
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147879
I won't even spell a word about "Putting" anything on the phone. If you need advise on that, then it would probably be better if you don't mess with rooting.
Hey all,
I am in the N900A NC2 4.4.2 boat and I want out!
Do we really need root to install a different ROM?
Can't we push somehow e.g. CM on the phone using Odin, or something?
I just want to make my Note 3 livable till Nexus 6 comes out
~S
I sometimes wonder why the search function even exists...
Yes you need root access to install custom roms via safestrap.
You need an unlocked bootloader to install a custom recovery and flash roms.
The latest 4.4.2 release ending with NC2 has a locked bootloader and does not have root access. Currently there is no way to obtain it.
Please follow forum rules and search before posting a question that has probably been answered. Try reading the general section and the sticked posts. One's like "[INDEX] AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3 All-In-One Resource Thread!" might be able to help with unanswered questions. If you still can't find your answers and it's support related, please post a question in the stupid question threads. They are in most sections. This is a development site, not a support site.

What I want to know is, why do people buy a phone KNOWING they won't like it?
Hello people!
Today I ordered an M7, I came from a Samsung S3 but it's faulty after 1.5 yrs. Still got 8 months of subscription left so had to buy a new phone.
I came by the HTC One series, and loved it. Design and everything is awesome. But what do you guys recommend me to do with the phone? Root it or keep it stock?
I have read through some stickies and came by things as bootloader and s-off but couldn't really find a conrete answer to what those things were. So, what are they exactly? With the S3 I had to flash a .tar file with Odin and the phone was rooted, ready for custom ROM's etc.
What do you love about your HTC One? And what advice about the phone can u forward to me?
This has been covered in numerous threads already (too many to link to), and in various forms. Almost every minute detail is covered...
Please take the time to explore this Forum, and don't forget to use search. Thanks.

This all depend what you need to do with your phone. If you don't need root, you don't have to root just for fun.

Everything you have previously used with Samsung phones (like Odin) will not be useful with HTC phones. HTC phones are really different from Samsung. This is not really harder to root HTC phones but the procedure is different.

Unlock, ROOT or S-OFF only if needed.
Make sure you understand how the phone works before tampering with it
and also that you know how to revert everything back to stock before you make some mods.
read read and read again before doing anything
refer to the FAQ in this forum (sticky thread) before asking questions. Most common issues are covered there.
and like said above by the mod, search the forum before posting, There is a ton of helpful threads here. You probably want to read all sticky threads of the General and Q&A section and have a look to the most recent threads. Use the search function before posting.

U are the best! Thank you so much!
Hi. I have a Mi8 128GB Chinese version with Locked Bootloader with Chinese rom.
I will get it unlocked by Nov 20th and in the meantime I am researching on the do's and don'ts of flashing on this device.
I have a lot of previous experience with android and flashing.
After going through these forums, I have my doubts about accidentally doing some stupidity while flashing the fastboot roms.
So is it alright if after unlocking the BL I flash the recovery rom zip files through TWRP, like miui 8.10.20 rom for preparing for custom rom flashing like Havoc or LOS16 and never use the fastboot roms.
I have confidence in TWRP and am comfortable using it.
It would give me peace of mind if some helpful soul can confirm this.
Thanks
There are many threads about this, if every single person opens a new thread about this, the forum will be flooded, please learn to use the search function or just read through. U will gain a lot more confidence looking at the threads rather than asking.
Anyways for starters heres a thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/please-read-tweaking-mi-8-t3833454

Dude I have a specific question which has not been answered clearly in these and other forums.
Is it okay to flash the recovery zip roms in TWRP instead of flashing the fastboot roms.
That's it.
Can you answer this specific question?
Also this is a Q&A thread isn't it.
Why is everybody so hostile here at XDA.
Been a member here for like 13 years now and try my best to help guys if I can.
A lot of people just login to put down other people.
What a shame
