So I have now, for the second time experienced this same bug. On a restart (just a normal one — not necessarily because the phone wasn't responding) the status bar completely resets to default: network name is shown, time switches to 12-hour clock etc.
However as in the image, the network type will be show ALL the time, even without mobile data being used. Obviously I don't mind that because it's actually kind of useful. But this is the symptom of a problem somewhere which causes the phone service to crash and reconnect if you try to open "Mobile network" in settings (second screenshot is it in the process of recovering)
Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas how to fix it? I cleared storage for everything phone-and settings-related that it would allow, but it didn't help. Last time I had to do a hard reset but I don't want to have to do this all the time cause obviously it's not very convenient.

Figured I'd ask this one to the community to see WTF is going on with my phone. Just curious if anyone has witnessed or has any clue to what my phone's issue is. This is a bit long, but needed to show this isn't just some setting issue:
Issue:
- Intermittently connects to Network, when working get both phone and data connections
- Connection lasts anywhere from 1-15 min.
- When data and phone connections are lost, they still appear normal/active in status bar, when view "status" in settings, shows my network connected, Rogers, not roaming, Connected to network state, Service State "In Service, blah blah....
- Sometimes, status bar icons show normal, but status in settings actually shows disconnected or connecting, this happens less often then the case above
One weird Incident:
- Was golfing one day, using GPS Golf app, all of a sudden phone shutoff (never happened before). After a panicky 20min. of pulling the battery, and watching the screen, nothing would happen. Finally, it powered on, and booted as normal. My connection issue seemed to come right after this incident occurred.
Attempts to fix software:
- Full wipe on custom ROM - no change
- flash radio(s) - no change
- flash stock ROM - no change (then root, flash custom ROM...no change)
- WTF????
Sent back to HTC for repairs
- My final option was to send my phone back to HTC. 1 week later, I get my phone back, same phone, flashed by HTC, and locked bootloader. Powered on, made a couple of quick calls, 10min later, issue was back. called HTC back, long story short, told I have to send it back again, and there was no problem found on the service report.
This is where I am at right now, does anyone have any ideas, similar experience? I am going to hold off for a couple of days before sending it off again, i am an electronics technologist myself, and find it hard to believe this could be a h/w issue, but I have no more software/partitions to flash that I haven't tried.
If there is anyone knowledgeable enough reading this, I have the logcat files, from what I can understand of it, when the my calls fail, "CallNotifier: DISCONNECT"..."CallNotifier" Cause: ERROR_UNSPECIFIED". There might be more in the log file that I don't understand.
Hi everyone,
I have encountered a really annoying issue with my HTC One. It is a completely new replacement unit, and ever since I started using it I've had problems with the reception. In the beginning it only lost reception for a short while, and then regained it. Now however, the loss of reception is almost always followed by an immediate reboot, and after this reboot the phone often will not allow me to enter any pin at all. It will just show a "no reception" symbol in the status bar and subsequently reboot again after a minute or so. This boot loop continues until the phone actually allows me to input the pin again, after this the phone will work fine for awhile until this looping business starts anew.
I've actually tried a whole lot of different roms and radio versions in order to try to solve this issue, but to no avail. I've also used an RUU to reset my phones firmware from the very beginning, but the problem still remains. I've also tried to swap sim cards, no luck with that either.
I've tried to check the logs after these reboots, and the only things that seem to have anything to do with this are the lines: "failure to start external modem" and "MDM common shutdown".
Am I out of luck here? Is there anything I can do in order to try to fix this myself?
I'm afraid that if I hand it in for repairs the shop won't actually experience anything wrong with it, since this happens so randomly, and just send it back to me with a service fee.
Help is much appreciated!
Anyone? I've made a logcat log of the error tagged-messages that occurs right before a restart:

Bump.
Hey there.
I have a stock Samsung Galaxy S4 Active on the AT&T network. Recently, I've been plagued by a number of troubles.
Bit of background:
For a while, I had the most bizarre issue: the screen thought I was touching it when I wasn't, near the bottom-middle of the screen, and would attempt to open/click on anything in that area. Often turning the screen on and off would help, for a little while. I was reaching my wits' end, because that would obviously be very frustrating to someone who uses their phone frequently throughout the day.
I thought maybe it had been new software I had installed, so I did a factory reset. Problem remained. I factory reset with NO backups. Problem remained. I updated to 4.4.2 via OTA. Problem remained...
And then mysteriously went away on its own.
I've been working in tech for a decade now, mainly in PC and server architecture, so I know better than to look a gift horse in the mouth - but I also know better than to think a problem that "mysteriously" goes away is gone for good. So the first part of my question: does anyone know what could have possibly been causing this?
I'm not super phone-savvy. I've rooted and flashed a few phones in the past couple years, but I'm by no means developer-level.
---------------------
Which brings me to my next problem... around the time that this issue went away, another one cropped up. Randomly, my phone will stop sending/receiving texts/calls, and the data connection will not function. This will continue until I turn on airplane mode and turn it off--at that point I receive all my missed texts, and it works again... sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for nearly 2 days. It's really frustrating. I've tried factory resets, I've tried restoring default APNs... but I'm at my wit's end with this. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
I should add that, with my last issue, it still shows a data connection in the notification bar - but there is none, or at least, no activity on it. It doesn't simply act as if it's in airplane mode and go "wah no data network" as soon as I try using it--it just simply hangs for ~30 seconds, then times out. Messages don't get received, webpages don't load, calls don't get placed, etc.
My P9 Plus wont turn on WIFI and its pretty random but turning the phone off (by holding the power button) and turning it back on fixes the problem until it occurs again, is this a sign of a hardware failure or I just need to perform a factory reset?
When I switch WIFI on its animation gets stuck on turn wifi on and off animation loop
You're thread title states "unable to turn on", while your thread post states "won't turn off", so it's a bit confusing.
The latter started happening to me recently - I thought because I had dropped the phone (from a low height) just before it started happening. Are you also finding no Wi-Fi networks available when this happens &/or unable to scan for them?
Anyway, reboot into Recovery mode & wipe the cache partition only (do NOT 'Wipe data/factory reset' for now).
How to enter P9 Plus Recovery mode (if required): https://www.recovery-mode.com/android/huawei-p9-plus.html
Sorry, I did not notice the typo. I am not able to scan for networks as the animation is stuck on a turn on off loop but after a reboot it runs fine. Ill try clearing cache before a factory reset
Its been doing okay so far, i cleared the cache and also disabled wifi scanning
I have the same issue here. In my case, I suspect the update of my phone (VIE-L09 C432 B384) to be the problem. This update installed one or 2 days before this and since now I have this issue.
I performed a factory reset, still have the issue.
Other things going on here (before factory reset):
- Battery drained when doing nothing within 5 hours
- Wifi suddenly stops functioning, no way to turn it off or on (shows on, but no wifi devices visible)
- Can't see the battery history (doesn't open until a reboot has been forced and shows a gap in the graph after reboot)
- Can't restart the phone in a proper way after wifi is defective (unless i press the button for 10 seconds)
- Sudden restarts of the UI.
I could fix the sudden battery drop by doing a factory reset, so probably somewhere i had some config errors.
however, the rest is still an issue on the phone. The restarts still happen, battery history is still unable to read out, the wifi suddenly stops and cant restart the phone.
(haven't had a restart, wifi crash or battery fail after I changed the setting "keep wifi on when in sleep" to "always", can be a hint of where the problem resides)
I'm thinking of a firmware/software downgrade to resolve this issue.
hay me to on L29C185B391 & B392
ANY IDEA TO solve prob not in 5.0.1 only update after 5.0.3

Fix it?
Mine just does not turn wifi on, if I leave it connected the entire day there is no issue. I cleared cache and disabled wifi scanning and it got fixed. I didnt bother to future out which of the 2 did the trick. But thanks for the heads up on that post too.
I have same issues WiFi battery drain not restart . Then I think may phone hardware problem but than I installed Google play service beta version all problem is solved.
And I love again my phone.!?
Hi there,
I need help, trying everything find on the internet to fix this issue appears after last update with no success. After restart and few seconds later, signal goes down and dissappear completely. You can see only icon of no signal or disabled. With or without sim card is the same. Hard reset with no change.
