Fingerprint scanner problem - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am trying to turn on fingerprint lock. When I click on "+ Add Fingerprint" I immediately get an error message saying "Make sure that the Home key is clean and dry, then try again". It does this before even attempting to scan my fingerprint. When I click OK on the message it closes out of the add fingerprint screen straight away. When I go back in there I get the same message immediately.

Have you tried placing your finger properly on home button where scanner existed? Also try to clean both your finger and home button with soft cotton cloth gently without giving much pressure and rubbing roughly home button as fingerprint reader located there which will be messed up by rough treatment..Then try again to set it up..If also not able to set it up then try factory reset if it might be software glitch then would be solved..Still Helpless!! Then kindly visit service centre and claim under warranty if exist or try payable solution

lock the device immediate with pin code

Hi all
Now I've set the device to ask a pin code to lock the device after 30 minutes of being not used. Isn't there an option/way so the pin lock is immediately active when I want it to be (like pushing some seconds on the end button), using another hardware button or by executing some file?
I've tried to map '"\Windows\Keylock.exe" /toggle' to a hardware key (with an timeout of 0 minutes in settings - lock), but that just prompts the way the/which keys should be locked, as if you would execute keylock.exe without the '/toggle' parameter.
The question is.. what invokes the pin unlock screen to appear?
PS: best wishes for 2008!
hold end call for 3 seconds!
ekw, thanks for you answer but
pushing the end call button:
- doesn't activate/show the pin lock screen,
- any "child who can read" knows howto unlock the device.
the thing is that if it gets stolen, they need to do a hard reset so sensitive data (putted on the device instead of the SD) will be erased
I already tries S2U2 but that locks the device in the same 'security' level as pushing the end call button for some seconds and it mentions howto unlock it
fyi: having the HTC TyTN II with HTC stock ROM (dutch)
Instant PIN Security
As noted in the first post, is there a way to get the phone to security lock on command, where you have to enter the pin to use it again?
I know you can hold down the end call button and get it to screen lock, but is there a way to get it to go into security lock?
I would like to turn the automatic settings off, so that the phone ONLY goes into security lock when I say it does, or, set it so that it only does it automatically like every three hours. That way, I can set it to go into security lock more often if I wish to.
Thanks!
if you turn the screen off using the power button,m and back on, does the lock not activate?
Or have you not told it to lock when waking from standy?

That works if you set auto lock on 0 minutes, but then you have to enter the PIN each and every time you turn the thing on. He wants it to lock only when he presses a lock key.
I unfortunately don't know of anything that does it.

Exactly. Thank you for your comments.
I don't want to have to enter the PIN every time I turn it on. Well, I know I can set it for an hour or longer and that would be fine.
But I want to be able to put it down, with the PIN code enabled, without worrying about random prying eyes looking into it or using it.
Anyone else have any thoughts??

two problems out of the blue! anyone else?

YESTERDAY my phone locked when i turned hit the power button. i havent used a password device lock since i got the phone months ago so i have no clue how it happened. no passwords would work but i simple soft reset solved the problem.
TODAY i noticed that i didn't have a data connection like usual, since i always have push email running. opened up active sync and all server info was missing.
all i did was a system restore and got everything back to normal.
I have never had any of these problems and i figure i would share them with you in case its a bug of some sort.
every now and then my phone will say its locked; i am unsure if its a button i hit or what; but i then have to use my stylus to be able to hit the small icon that says unlock (or something like that) (it is frustrating when you are driving and the phone becomes lock and you are trying to hit that small icon with you finger to unlock it).
I must say though i have never entered a password for locking nor has my phone required to enter a password when it says it has become locked; but still is wierd that sometimes my phone says its locked and i have to exit out of the lock through the small icon (which is difficult to hit with your finger)......

your situation is probably that you are holding in the red phone button too long. that will lock the phone. mine on the other hand locks and asks for a password.
You know, I had this today. Got my phone out and the screen was much darker than normal. After a bit of prodding I noticed the left softkey had changed to "unlock".
I have no idea why this happene, though just tried holding down the red button as you said and it did indeed lock. How strange!
Yep. Holding the END key results in your phone locking. I used to use this method to lock my phone before S2U2 did it for me.
I believe pretty recently, someone found a way to re-map holding the END key. Do a bit of searching and I'm sure you'll find it.
FYI- back to the topic. has anyone experienced either situation?

SIM PIN on Startup

I'm used to enter my SIM PIN before the Today screen is displayed. So the X1 connects to the mobile network before you start working with the phone.
But now the X1 starts WM and i have to click manually on the phone settings to enter the PIN. SIM Pin is turned on.
Is there any way to get a "auto SIM PIN screen" on startup?
Actually i forgot to note that i get a PIN Screen on Startup. But just for a few seconds and you cannot type in any number. It then fades and the today screen is displayed. I think there's something going wrong. mh.
Thanks for your advise!
I was wondering the exact same thing. The thing displays for a second then goes into loading today screen leaving you manually starting the SIM PIN screen.
This is a sideeffect of xperiaTweak, it's been discussed here already. A simple search could have given you the answer.
There is no fix for this right now but it should not matter -either you can simply press the green phone-button, then you can type in your PIN, or you just deactivate the PIN-code.
its not xperia tweak,, because the moment i got this phone, i am grumbling about this already... i think its PANELS
I have the same problem exept i used to be able to enter my pincode but now i only get the first 2 numbers then it just "logs on" by itself... i don't think its TweakXperia either coz it worked before and i hade it than to...and when i check the conn manager it says the phone is on, not i flight mode or anything else... so weird!

Could be too. This behavior started the moment I installed XperiaTweak so I thought this program is the one to blame.
Maybe it's just to wait for the firmware update. And after all, how often do you softreset your phone? I installed all the programs I need and now it's weeks before I restart the device.
Actually I've installed xperia tweak, but I did not use it. Changed some chache sizes with advanced config.
I think it happened the first time after i allowed Sprite Backup to automatically enter the SIM PIN. But turned that feature off and the programm is not on auto start ... as far as I know.
Ah and I searched the forums and found nothing about sim und pin .
I "soft reset" my phone on most evenings by pressing the On key and selecting to turn the device off. There's no need for the phone to be on standby when I'm sleeping.
I think I'll do a hard reset and take a look when my SIM PIN Menue is disappearing.
I simply removed simlock. I rarely turn the phone off, so there is little chance it would work.
Well there's the difference!
I turn it off more often. Btw, Soft Resets once a day are recommended by SE on their X1 site. To "clean up memory" . hehe
And its quite nasty to go to the PIN menu manually all the time.
I usually just press the call button and the phone brings up the PIN menu. This is quite an easy way I think...you don't have to navigate too much this way.

Tell that to my Nokia 1208 I still have somewhere. 7 weeks of battery lifetime and no "memory cleaning"
On topic: WHen the PIN code screen shows up, just type it in and press ok without waiting for a response. On my X1 it usually works, the screen hangs but the PIN gets entered.
Pressing the call button is faster, but still manually.
I did a hard reset on my device and payed some attention to the SIM PIN screen.
After the reset, with no external programms installed (original stock rom) the PIN screen appeared every time, soft reset and complete shut down.
But after I installed the first programms (in this case advanced config and advanced task manager) the SIM PIN screen started to fade away. Surprisingly it seems to be random now. Sometimes the screen fades and the today screen is shown, and on the other side the pin screen stays up until I entered the SIM PIN.
As for today:
Turned mobile phone off over the night.
First start today: SIM PIN screen stayed up.
Soft reset: SIM PIN screen stayed up to.
Yesterday the SIM PIN screen faded away for every Soft reset i made. I've installed a bunch of programms (My_flash, Youtube App, Skyfire, ...).
Until now I have NOT installed Xperia Tweaks! I'll see if the randomness fades with that installed.
Perhaps this occurs, when a programm running in the background causes the (phone) PIN screen to minimize. Sometime it went away when F-Secure wants to update definitions.
No XperiaTweak installed yet and still no SIM PIN screen fade away pattern .
Maybe XperiaTweak also runs in the background on startup, panel switcher or what ever. You could take a look at this .
i noticed that if i start entering the code immediatly after it appears , it is enough time to enter it(6 char) and press enter.Anyway i don't mind pressing the green key once in order to enter PIN
Bump out of curiosity. Is there a solution for this?

HELP - Pin code on lock screen saying it is incorrect with latest firmware

Giuys
Now this is weird and I tried turning off phone and on again but to no avail. I updated to the latest firmware (over the air) for my Xperia Z and I noticed some weird behaviour ... 1 Google + is now crashing 2 Some times upon pressing the power button the backlight of the display comes on but the mobile does not and I would have to turn it off again and back on to get it on. And now the latest surprise is ..... I CANNOT go past my lock screen . I am inserting the correct pin ,,,, the one I usually use and now I am desperate because I DONT want to lose the data that's in it. I know I can re-flash the mobile and resolve the issue but I have some photos which I really wish to keep as they have emotional value. So I want to avoid the route of doing a hard reset yet.
Thing is after I inserted the pincode and its saying its wrong for a number of times ... I expected the forgot password button to turn up on the lock screen but it is not ... Could anyone kindly explain to m e how to get this forgot password to come up on my numeric lock screen ? Everything is stock and the phone has wifi and 3g set to off ....
Please help !! I don't want to lose what's in my mobile.
Kind Regards
Al

Are you able to tap on "emergency call" on the lockscreen? If yes, go ahead and tap it. It should open up the dialpad then type in *#*#7378423#*#* . It should open up the service menu. At the service menu, navigate to "service tests" ---> "NFC" and let the test run. Once the test compleates, go ahead and tap the "home" button. You should see you homescreen.
Hope it helps

Tried to test it for myself without having problems with my pin lockscreen. But this doesn't work. A window pops up and tells me that this is not an emergency number.
Sent from my Xperia Z using XDA Premium 4 mobile app.

If that fails as well, i think its better to contact Sony Customer Service and check if they could help but to be honest with you, high chances are there that they will advice you to perform a hard reset. Sorry dude :/

Noticeable delay after pressing screen lock button. System reset does not help.

This issue has been driving me mad for the past couple weeks. I'm at my wits' end and I need some expert help to figure this out. Please read this post thoroughly to understand my situation, as this is not a simple matter of uninstalling some apps.
When I first got my Note 9, the screen lock button worked perfectly. The screen would immediately turn on when I pressed the button, and it would immediately turn off when I pressed it again. However, once I got the Android Pie update, the screen lock button stopped working properly. The screen still turns on immediately, but there's about a 0.5 second delay after I press the button to turn it off. It's a relatively small issue, but it's enough to bother me.
I attempted to fix this by performing a system reset. But this did not help. In fact, this issue is still present even before completing initial setup of the phone.
When you perform a system reset, the first screen you see when your phone restarts is the welcome screen. It contains a "start" button that you press to begin setup. On this screen, the lock button issue does not happen. My phone locks and unlocks correctly. On the next screen, you connect to a wifi network. After connecting to a wifi network, the lock button issue becomes present. In other words, this issue with the lock button is present before I even start using the OS, or install any apps, or really do anything at all. It seems to be triggered by connecting to a wifi network during setup.
So I figured there must be something wrong with the firmware. So I used Odin to flash an earlier firmware version. This did not solve the issue. I even tried installing an unlocked firmware version, on the offchance that my carrier (AT&T) was doing something weird. This did not help either.
I have no idea where to go from here. I thought that a system reset is supposed to completely wipe everything from your phone, so that it behaves exactly how it did when I first got it. But that's not the case. It seems like something is carrying over that's causing this issue. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?
Do you have lock instantly with power key on?

It is probably the double tap power button to open camera feature. You can toggle it off and locking will be instant.
If its already off, there my be an accessibility service listening key presses.

This delay issue is so silly but it annoys the hell out of me. Where did you turn off this feature in Pie?
Update: Found it. Just use the search box in settings and type in "camera" (or whatever it is in your language). The "double tap power" setting will get listed.
Thanks alot,
Watz
I even turned off the double press for camera app but I'm still noticing a 0.5 sec lag when i press the side key
I even restarted after changing the setting
Nothing is happening
Please help
