Completely stock. Nougat 7.0.

This, if you haven't found it yet:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/kernel-stock-kernel-root-color-control-t3218958
Or wait for a new version of this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...-fed-patcher-v8-forceencrypt-disable-t3234422
Finally:
Install a custom kernel...
All of the above include that you backup your datas and format them once the proper kernel gets flashed, but I guess you know that?!
Hoping this is what you are looking for?!

Thanks for all that.
None of them appear to turn off encryption though.

Encryption isn't magically turned off once you install a kernel that doesn't force encrypt...
Once installed, you have to issue these command in fastboot:
fastboot format userdata
fastboot reboot
Backup first...

OK Thanks. I shall try again later.

[Q] I heard you're not supposed to flash a custom rom until you decrypt?

Why is that exactly? I tried decrypting with wugfresh nexus toolkit and it bootlooped my nexus 6, could I flash CM 12 on the nexus 6 w/o decryption?
wrong section
1. Don't use a toolkit to root/flash anything on your nexus. Learn the ropes and use fastboot, there is no reason to use some toolkit. if you dont understand what the commands are doing there is no reason to be using a nexus or flashing custom software.
2. The only reason anyone states that is because if you encrypt you have to wipe userdata aka your internal storage to decrypt, its only to save time
3. This best belongs in the QandA sections, not original development.
Good luck with your nexus.

Anyways, can I flash CM 12 with encryption enabled? Or would it run into errors?

As @Circaflex said, don't use a toolkit. Follow this thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/disable-forced-encryption-gain-root-t2946715
As a side note, if you use a toolkit and it bootloops you, before going nuts, try fastboot erase cache. That should solve your problem but yes, you are always better off to avoid the toolkits and do it through fastboot yourself.
You can flash a ROM if you're encrypted or decrypted. It makes no difference, the only difference would be what kernel you're using.
If the kernel is encrypted then it will only run encrypted. If it's encryptable then it can be either or and it'll leave your current encryption or decryption the same.

If you unlocked the boot loader, rooted and have TWRP custom recovery, you just need to :
1. Download rom and gapps to your phone. Links should be found in the OP of the ROM's thread. If you wish Google to restore your apps be sure you have selected the backup-auto restore in settings.
2. Do unencryption now if you wish.
3. Boot into TWRP recovery and wipe a couple times.
4. From TWRP, install the rom and gapps.
5. Reboot system, sign into your Google account and let it download and restore your apps.
6. Reboot system once more & you should be gtg.

Should be in the Chroma OP or close thereby as to whether you need the boot loader.
I would think for sure a wipe or two. Boot loader, maybe. Radio, at your discretion.

I checked. Instructions and prerequisites are in the OP of the Chroma thread.
I also updated my Nexus 6 with 5.0.1, unlock and root, to 5.1 without losing data. I just had to re-root it afterwards.
I used Wugfresh Nexus root toolkit.
In short I used "Flash stock + unroot", in which I selected "Enable no-wipe" and "force-flash".
After this I rerooted the device from within NRT.
Worked like a charm!

Oooook... I'm confused too. I'm on dirty unicorns 5.0.2.. I want to upgrade to 5.1... Some instructions say to flash the unencrypted kernel and I also have looked into the boot img and baseband thread.. But when would I need to do all of this? I need someone willing to explain it like I'm five how and when to update the baseband, etc.. I already backed up my internal storage so I'm ready to do whatever I have to to flash Chroma or any other non stock 5.1 ROM.

Well can you be my guinea pig and flash chroma without doing everything else? worst thing that could happen is it not boot into the rom and wrong radio will just make your phone not pickking up signel intil you flashed radio. but chroma dont say anything about flashing bootloader so i dont think its needed.
BTW ims still on rooted stock 5.0.1.

I have Miui 7 working, and I think the solution to your problem is to format / data and /data / media .
You can find it using CWM Recovery on mounts and storage > format / data and /data /media.
The problem with this rom is the gapps.

Nice but what do you fix. If it is only a message that is displayed at boot but has no negative effects what is the point of fixing.
In my opinion using firmware and modem from mm for n can't be a good match or let's say better.

Its a bug related cb9 firmware. U can use cb7 firmaware to fix it..
This makes sense. I was on open beta 8 for a few days
When I stumble across open beta 8 firmware + modem, I flashed it. Phone was working without issues prior to that, so I dont know what possessed me to do that because after that I began receiving dmverity message right after bootloader warning. I immediately knew it had to be the updated firmware/modem. Unfortunately I was unable to access twrp anymore. I ended up bricking my phone trying to revert this issue lol all is good now. I suggest you do not update to any firmware/moden newer than cb 7.

Exactly I believe there is no point in flashing old firmware only if you can't wait for 5 sec.
If this was a bug oneplus would have pushed a patch out by now.

it's easily avoidable (but the phone will be decrypted)
after flashing ob9 successfully and booting to system, reboot to TWRP (.28) and wipe convert data to f2fs then wipe it, then wipe internal storage (back up your data to your pc 1st)...and that's it, if you want root, reboot back to TWRP and flash root, then roboot to system, dmverity will be gone, and the phone decrypted,
(this will work if you started with a clean ob9 install like sideloading, and you ended with a full stock ob9)

[Guide] How to Flash Encrypted ROMs on a Decrypted Device (Without Losing Data)

Most custom ROMs for the OnePlus 5 are now supporting encrypted devices only. However, some users choose to keep their device in a decrypted state for MultiROM support and for other reasons. If you follow the steps below, you can flash any encrypted ROM on your decrypted device (without losing data) and your device will remain decrypted! I found this information in one of the many threads I've read (I don't remember which one) and thought I'd post it here to help others and for easy reference. Enjoy!
Follow These Steps:
1. Boot into TWRP
2. Wipe caches, data, and system partitions
3. Flash encrypted ROM
4. Flash GApps
5. Flash Magisk
6. Flash no-verity-op5.zip (not created by me)
7. Reboot
8. Enjoy!
If you closely follow the instructions above, you can enjoy any ROM on your decrypted OnePlus 5 and have the best of both worlds! :highfive:
Note 1: If device gets stuck at OnePlus boot animation after following all of the steps above, hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn off device. Power the device back on and it will boot successfully into the ROM.
Note 2: Some ROMs are not compatible with MultiROM without the inclusion of additional commits by ROM developer.
After wipes, its Flash ROM.. Flash optional Kernel.. Flash Gapps.. Flash No-verity.. Flash optional root (magisk or SuperSU).. Flash optional Viper4Arise?
Is this confirmed working? Has anyone actually tried the process and confirmed that any data on the phone's internal storage is there?

I've found that flashing SuperSU (instead of Magisk) on encrypted ROMs often ends in a bootloop on my decrypted device. Flashing Magisk seems to be a requirement.
Not working for me. Tried with AICP release from 9/11. Wiped caches, system, data. Flashed rom. flashed gapps (tried stock/full/micro). Flashed magisk (also tried without). -> Bootloop

The original zip was modified for making FBE optional by @snowwolf725. Click here to visit his original thread.
I have a quick question. I just unlocked the Bootloader on my Plus 5 and installed TWRP 3.1.1-1 and Magisk 14.0 on it. The firmware is 4.5.0 as I didn't let it update at all and did all this to the device upon first bootup. I did not decrypt.
I've tried installing latest RR release (final for N cheeseburger) and the install stops with errors. I tried a different rom in the same Android version (7.1.2) and get same results. MD5 checks out on both downloads.
Do I have to flash the latest OnePlus 5 update (full OTA 4.5.10) before flashing a 7.1.2 rom? And should I decrypt my device for easier flashing?
If no one answers, I completely understand and will search some more but this seems to be a cloudy subject that gets many different answers and I thought I would post it here. Thank you all in advance.

And there's a thread I started for using FDE.

Yes.. U need to flash the latest firmware and then flash roms.. There's a thread for firmware.. Flash the whole zip would again give you stock recovery and you have to re do the fastboot stuff so makes no sense..

In addition to what is stated here, if you flash Magisk immediately after flashing the full firmware zip (no rebooting between steps), TWRP won't get replaced with the stock recovery. This is a great time saver!
Any method to get oxygen os as a secondary ROM with multirom?

Darn, well thanks for the reply
I just wanted to thank you for this thread. All of the information you provided helped me immensely. I was struggling with this device and flashing roms at first but one I unencrypted it, with your guide, everything worked great. I was going to leave it encrypted for easier flashing since most all the roms for this device are encrypted only. But I was having more issues than ever. And many, of the posts in here have also answered quite a few questions I had. This should be a pinned tread.
Anyways thank you again. Your thread is a must read for anyone with an Opo5.

Have you tried flashing OxygenOS, the no-verity zip and Magisk?
