Kindle Fire HD 5.1.2 Noobie questions... - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and a bit confused if honest with the amount of info and articles on this site.
I am a noob to this forum and would like to root my Kindle Fire HD running 5.1.2 and get the Google play store etc running on it. I am also considering putting the CyanogenMod on it as well if that goes well.
I have read quite a few of the articles and have a few questions before giving it a go.
How do you stop the OTA updates while trying to root it (using Kingroot)? Worried about it auto updating to the latest software 5.3.2.1 I think which is not currently modifiable.
Is there an up to date root guide? A lot of them seem quite old now. Am worried about bricking the device. Root Junky has seemingly a good guide. Is this the way to go for a first time try?
What is the recommended CyanogenMod rom version to try now? Or as the project is dead should I bother and look for a different operating system?
Thanks for your help much appreciated.

The closest you are going to get is kindle water beta. As of yet we have not been able to exploit the bootloader so flashing a custom recovery and bootimg is out of the question right now so we are very limited in what we can do.

[Q] root kindle fire hd 3rd gen 4.5.2?

Hello I am new to these forums and I have looked everywhere but can't find how to root and turn this kindle into an android tablet. I have a kindle fire hd 3rd generation 4.5.2 serial number 00D2 0708 3522 07L8. If someone can lead me in the right direction i would appreciate it greatly and thank you for your time.
Please all I ask is a simple answer if it's rootable and where on this forum can I find where to root this device
I'm after the same with no joy
So do you think there is no root for this version yet?
Can't be done
Hello,
Kindle FIre HDX with Fire OS 4.5.1 or the new 4.5.2 can not be rooted as of this date, refer to this thread:

Only for soho. If you try to do it on another device it'll probably get bricked, so don't.
Darn
I purchased the KFHD 7 for my daughter after reading a bunch of good reviews. Didn't realise it had the crappy proprietary Fire OS on it until after the fact. Can't wait until someone figures out a root method to set her free!
I have a Kindle Fire HDX 7"
Bought this kindle fire a few months ago thinking I could root the device which I did ok. Then I went looking for instructions to install Google Play Store and Google Play Services as I hadn't had to install Google Store before. That was a few weeks ago. Since then my kindle has updated it's system to 4.5.2. After that I couldn't root the kindle at all never mind installing Google Play on it! When will someone figure out how to root this kindle and install Google Play on it! I am passing the point of no return with this kindle. If I meddle with it any more it will be unusable!!!!! Grrrrrr!

Please tell us how you rooted your Kindle. I guess many would be happy to root it in stock condition and then disable updates.
I read it has a Mediatek board. Have you tried MTK droidtools?
How did you do that?

Finding a bunch of reviews that don't mention that the fire locks you into a closed ecosystem is quite a feat. And none that do mention it. Kudos for the finessed search skills. Well done!
Reading reviews not noticing that Fire OS may be a bit different from stock Android...
Anyways, has anybody yet managed to root the KFSOWI 4.5.5 version without the special cable?
Someone told me using KingRoot (normal app) may help but it doesn't work for me. There MUST be some skilled developer being able to root it easily...
Does not work on kindle fire 3rd gen. tablet.
best option for now
Best option for now, would probably be to downgrade your os before this one and disable updates till this one is rooted. i found the update file versions. Im gonna try it now.

HDX Toolkit × revived × GUI

As Faznx92 has abandoned development of his great toolkit that many of us see as an essential to
these devices, I have decided to pick up where he left. I'm continuing the project and, as such, have
recreated it in VB.NET with a proper interface.
Features
supports x.3.1.0-x.3.2.7
root your device; features both jcase and towelroot exploits
disable/enable OTA updates
disable/enable lockscreen ads (special offers)

To-do
code cleanup
design success forms
implement TWRP installer

I still need to finish up some things design-wise before I do an actual release.
Feel free to clone the repo and play around with it. Any suggestions on optimization, bug reports and the like are much appreciated.
i haven't been around much in a long time and have been silently lurking the forum. while i don't know how hard it is, a suggestion may be some kind of rollback utility for firmware.
personally, i'm sporting 3.2.4 on my apollo and there is a lot of conflicting information i am finding as to if / how i can roll mine back to .3.1.0 for twrp

not really. There are complete threads discussing your exact situation. And is fairly easy to reproduce. I would advise reading the whole thread involving your modifications. The OP is not always updated with every tidbit of helpful information.
while you're above suggestion. Would be nice to be integrated into another utility. There are fairly easy steps to accomplish what you need to.that have already been thoroughly developed by another developer and he would have to get permission from him also add that.
and keep in mind Apollo is slightly behind in development as far as compared to the Thor.
while i understand that there are whole threads, what i am pointing out, and you said as well is that there is not a definitive process / guide.
anyway, the OP was asking for suggestions which is exactly what i gave.

Ive been all around these forums for years. Never seen a more conflicting and jumbled shamble of tutorial wannabes or confusing information in my life. Most of the bricks dont come from seriously stupid people, they come from a lack of competent, cohesive, coherent information.

I cannot completely disagree with you on this. The issue we have is that there are several different routes to currently take with these tablets all depending on what version of firmware you are on, and if you follow one set of directions while on the wrong firmware, its potentially the end for your tablet. Double this confusion with 2 tablets with the "same" yet different sets of firmware. You're right that we are lacking a fully comprehensive guide for people just coming here new. Some bricks have been caused by carelessness, but there is so much confusion with where to begin with some people. Those of us that have had these tablets for awhile may be use to it, but I do feel for the ones new to all of this and the twenty different directions they may have to take based off a single question, "what firmware are you on?".

Got the solution from GitHub and started building it. Anything I can do to help? I'm basic to intermediate with OOP languages. I was thinking of attempting to convert the project to C#. If anything, I can help make builds.

Nope, but there are other methods to obtain root. I will let someone with more experience jump in. While I have read through relevant posts with interest I have not directly worked with Apollo (8.9" HDX) or Sangria (Fire OS 4.x). Don't want to dole out bad/incomplete info ...
Important: Do not connect to WiFi (delete any WiFi networks you may have previously connected to) as you may get upgraded to 4.5.3 which is reported to be much hard to crack. I know it's tempting ... don't do it!

Yes, if you need root and you have hdx 7" (codename Thor ), you can downgrade from 13.4.5.3 to 13.3.2.8, then upgrade to 13.4.5.2 which is now rootable.

How to turn Fire 7" into an android tablet?

Hello guys, i've just ordered a Fire 7" and i intend to use it mainly as an android tablet. So i noticed how much the original device is filled with stuff i won't be using, so i wanna get rid of all that.
How do i go on about rooting the device exactly? I'd really apreciate it if someone point me to the right way. I've tried looking it up but i get confused everytime because of all the information that's been posted here. Thanks in advance.

This may help you. If you want to get rid of the Fire OS you would need to root your fire then install flash fire and finally flash a custom rom like CM 12.1 or Slim ROM. BTW Root Junky has tons of videos on the Fire.

After viewing videos be sure to revisit the forums, especially the ROM OP and associated thread, for the most current recommendations. Details and options change over time. RootJunky's videos are truly excellent but reflect the best thinking at a specific point in time and should be used as a visual reference versus a step-by-step prescription followed to the letter.

Fire 7 5th gen - 5.6.3.4 how block OTA and debloat?

Hi,
my fire 5gen upgraded to latest rom.
Can I do something or is it crap to trash?
I know it is stucked at FireOS but can I extend "user experience"?
I sideloaded GPlay,
but I need
1) block OTA updates (and wait for miracle).
2) debloat
3) downgrade where possible.
Is it possible?
I did not find usable aproved treads.
Thank a lot

Yes to all. There are numerous threads in the General section covering these topics along with a couple general purpose utilities that claim to do it all.
You will need to do some reading to gain a better understanding of how they work and what you're getting into.
