TWRP 3.0 - decrypt data - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using either SliMM, ExistenZ or the Experience ROM, I have been running into issue when encrypting my phone. Everytime, I have been using the recovery mode, TWRP failed to decrypt the /data. I was wondering if any other people have encountered this issue, and if there is a solution to this recurring problem? I tried different version of the recovery from 2.8.... to 3.0 including the 3.0.3.0 FOTA recovery mod and the TWRP 3.0.2-0 for XZDualRevoverz and RecRoot.

Try the one I posted here, it should work.

TWRP 3.1.0 - wipes userdata and more

I install latest TWRP 3.1.0 version today.
All the user data, some apps (Waze, Gmail, Gmaps...), SMS were wiped.
I have RR-N-v5.8.2-20170218-oneplus3t-Official currently installed.
I reinstall some apps back.
After system reboot all seemed fine.... But after boot to recovery (TWRP 3.1) and than boot into system all was gone again.
It looks like every boot to recovery wipes user data and some apps...
Flash 3.0.4-1 again
Same problem here with 3.1.0.0.
I flashed 3.1.0.0 img with 3.0.4-1 and do not have the issues OP is describing.
Edit: stock Open Beta 3 rooted.

Apparently, the official TWRP 3.1.0-0 for OnePlus 3T only works with Oxygen OS. So far, only users using custom ROMs have reported issues with partition wipes after flashing the latest TWRP.

Happened to me on OOS. Went back to 3.0.4-1
Sent from my OnePlus 3T using XDA Labs
It was updated to 3.1.0-1 try that
I suppose this of because of the official TWRP 3.1.0-0 is not using the backported F2FS driver. I'm using EXT4 filesystem on data partition so therefore I'm not experiencing any data loss.
Was on RR 09.03 with OB3 firmware, it completely destroyed my phone. Bootloops, impossible to go back to recovery, when in recovery, impossible to see files to flash them, even going back to 3.0.4.1 did not solve everything, reinstalled Freedom OS but had screen total freezes.... Had to go through the total disaster recovery utility, and I am still re-installing everything...
TWRP 3.1.0.0 ate 4 hours of my flash-addicted life... FML !!!
**STAY AWAY FOR NOW**
Blu_spark 3.1.0 version is not affected by this, only the official.
Stock OOS 4.0.3 and TWRP 3.1.0-1 = ALL GOOD!

Can confirm. TWRP 3.1.0-1 works fine. (rooted OOS 4.0.2)
I had at least two serious issues with official TWRP 3.1.0-1 and LineageOS:
1.) After a first flash attempt via fastboot I was no longer able to unlock my phone with my PIN under LineageOS.
2.) When booting into TWRP I got a black screen - unable to do any useful.
3.) After I could no longer unlock my phone under LineageOS I reinstalled LineageOS from TWRP 3.1.0-1. All looked fine until I rebooted from TWRP into LineageOS: TWRP obviously wiped my device and I was offered
the setup wizzard of LineageOS. All my setting were gone.
I had issue 3.) already with TWRP 3.0.3-1. I immediately reflashed TWRP 3.0.4-1 - the currently only working TWRP version.
I would like to add that I had removed any encryption on the phone before I started at 1.). My device is still unencrypted. I once removed stock encryption because I heard about problems with TWRP and encryption.

[RESOLVED] TWRP 3.2.3.1 bootloop?

The newest TWRP 3.2.3.-1 does not let me boot into ROM, just brings me back to TWRP again. I have to restore a backed up boot image (with 3.2.3-0) to boot normally. Even flashing TWRP 3.2.3-0 in TWRP does not bring me back.
Anyone else having experiencing this? I have attached my recovery logs.
I was on stock ...and just install los16 without problem... So i dont have problems with TWRP.
Resolved.
After dirty flashing the ROM zip/GAPPs and flashing TWRP, I was able to boot successfully. I Then just saved a new backup including the newest TWRP.
It is strange that just flashing TWRP would make the OS unbootable.

There is always a risk when flashing your device. One of the reasons why I prefer to flash using Linux was that Windows would have so much going on in the background that I risked the data transfer being corrupt. That said, if you're using Windows, I'd close all programs and especially disable any anti-virus running in the background. Sure, Linux may have a few things running, but I have always found it did a better job multitasking resources than Microsoft Windows with a fewer chance of data loss.
It is probably because after installing Google Apps, your /data partition gets corrupted.
So after installing Google Apps, go to TWRP > Wipe > "Format Data" & reboot.
I've the same problem & this resolves the issue for me.
For me, this did not help. I had to reflash everything from bootloader.
Funny thing is: it just has downloaded and installed an OTA update. With open bootloader.
I ran into this issue yesterday when a bad flash caused the infamous "no bootable A/B" error. After I resolved it and install TWRP I kept being rebooted back into TWRP. The 3.2.3-0 version resolved everything. I really do believe 3.2.3-1 is a bit buggy. I mean it works, but once you really start to use it more than the average user, you start to notice little things.
I too had this same issue. Eventually realized that updating TWRP by flashing zip from TWRP caused it. I had to flash stock boot partition, then follow the process for flashing TWRP as if you are flashing it for the first time (first boot into TWRP and then flash the corresponding zip). This resolved the issue.

Can't access twrp 3.4.0.1, H870

Hello,
I've installed twrp 3.4.0.1 via fastboot, but after I select yes when i'm asked about erasing my data, the phone just boot up normally without deleting any of my data, but does not enter twrp either. Tried 3.4.0.0 too, no luck. Only 3.3.1.0 worked, but when I try to backup it says something like 'can't mount system partition' and some other errors. I think that version is too old for my rom, so I'm afraid to use it for backup/flash. My phone is LG G6 H870, Android 9, software version V30b. The phone is not rooted, the bootloader is unlocked. Tried to erase cache partition and install twrp 3.4.01 again, didn't work. I can't install Skyhawk or Orangefox becuase I can't use twrp.
Is anybody facing this problem too?
Thanks!

HI You need to use OrangeFox recovery or SkyHawk. If you plan to go to 10, then you need SkyHawk. And I think SkyHawk is maintained but OrangeFox not.

So can I install SkyHawk via fastboot over stock recovery without installing twrp beforehand? I see there are multiple files in the shyhawk zip, should I only extract the recovery img and install it via fastboot? I'm kinda new to this, thanks!

HI. It is made to flash in TWRP (same as OrangFox) So I really don't know if that recovery.img flashing through Fastboot works. Never tried, sorry.
Maybe someone knows though.

Ok, thanks, I'll try to find a solution, or maybe I'll just wait for the next version of twrp.
You should try installing the recovery and immediately installing any custom rom, when i flashed twrp the first time i had to do it several times cause somehow it got "erased" every time i noot the stock OS.
Ig you don't want to install a custom rom try right after installing twrp and on the fastboot screen to reboot to recovery with (Volume - ) button and power.
I think the idea is not letting the Stock os boot
Also that error. i have the same problem, the only moment it doesn't appear is when you wipe all data with the "Format Data" option inside "Wipe" menu in twrp.
After you boot to the OS once and go back to recovery it will come again everytime you flash something.
Not sure if its a problem or not, because i've dirty installed some updates and also installed gapps and magisk even with that error.
Im currently in A10 using Havoc and NikGapps.

Yes, I know I have to install twrp again every time I let the stock rom boot, but the only version of twrp working is 3.2.3 and I think that was released before the G6 received official Android 9 update, so that's why I'm not very confident using it. I've tried to enter recovery immediately after I've installed it, so I don't think that's the problem.
I have the same problem on the LG G6 H870. I won't get to TWRP. I tried several versions of TWRP and nothing.
Edit.
This twrp is functional:
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=289997
After installation using fastboot, restart directly to twrp using power+vol. down.
Finally i've successfully flashed Skyhawk using TWRP 3.3.1, so thanks everyone for advice!
Still couldn't make official TWRP 3.4.0/3.4.0.1 work.

Hi, I don't know if this goes here, I hope you can help me, I update twrp from version 3.1 to 3.4 and now I can't access twrp, how can I fix it?
Hello again, I answer myself, and if it helps someone else, using adb fastboot with twrp 3.2 Melina solves it and twrp works perfectly again.

Question Encryption / Mounting Issue In Recovery (Both TWRP and OrangeFox)

Hello, I have a weird issue with my note 10 pro where after I install any rom it just refuses to mount any storage, and the phone's internal storage stops showing up on my pc when I'm in any recovery mode. I've tried TWRP and OrangeFox, tried Pixel Experience Plus and now Octavi OS. I've also tried flashing this forced encryption disabler (link https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...disk-quota-disabler-11-2-2020.3817389/page-65), at first it kept failing telling me it failed to mount, however after I rebooted the recovery it actually flashed. Despite that my phone is still encrypted.
Luckily I managed to flash magisk before booting into the custom rom for the first time so it actually flashed, but I can't flash anything else.
Has anyone else experienced this bug? I just want to be able to flash stuff.
note: I've tried with and without a password or a pin, and tried both TWRP and OrangeFox. They just never ask for any authentication.
is your phone storage showing 0 in recovery?
The available version of OrangeFox does NOT support data partition decryption, because of that nobody uses it on our phone ...
What is the version of the TWRP you use?

Question Bootlop recovery after update

Hi,
after the latest OTA (miui.eu) I recognized that I don't have TWRP anymore and installed the latest.
Now I am on a bootlop, always ending in the recovery and cannot boot the system anymore
I already installed Miui.eu again via fastboot, the same with twrp (I also tried a older version that worked for me)
I also recognized that I cannot mount my data partition in twrp, only password is available but I am using a pattern. maybe there is some data lost an I have to format data?
any suggestions how to fix?
format data was the solution, error log helped me to identify the problem
You could have installed the rom via Fastboot.
