hi folks...
sorry if its been asked and answered elswhere... i didnt see this elsewhere on the forum.
when i upgraded my stock att n1 to 2.2, the trackball began glowing various colors for certain notifications. i know that a rooted phone can have this feature set for specific color for notification, but on stock 2.2, i cant find a guide to what glows what color, or how (if able?) to change the color settings.
sometimes my trackball now glows green, and sometimes white.. no rhyme or reason. anyone here have a link, or info on how to associate the meanings of trackball colors?
thanks
look for blink in the market

This is a feature of FROYO. For applications that support the color notification you can set it in the apps settings. I know on my I have text messages set to one color, gvoice to another and email to yet another.

thanks for this info. looked at each of the programs you mentioned though, and it seems i dont have the same options that you mention above. can you be a bit more specific with how you access the setting?
ive entered the settings area of each program (gmail, voice, talk) and for gmail i have notification bar, ringtone, vibrate, and notify once. for voice, in addition to the gmail options (minus notify once), i have light option (but not color setting... just blink or not blink). for talk, i have notification bar, ringtone, and vibrate... thats it.
i did try the blink application posted above, but i dont use sms or mms (just voice), and i really dont need colors for incoming calls... just wanted distinct colors for voice, talk, and gmail.
thanks.
The key point is this:
"For applications that support the color notification you can set it in the apps settings".
The stock apps don't have settings to change the colour of the notification. Things like Handcent SMS/ChompSMS/SMS Popup provide notifications that have specified colours, which you can use (and disable the stock apps notifications).
In a similar way, GMail notifier can be used instead of the stock gmail app notification to allow you to customise the colour of your gmail notification.
ok. i get the point.
thanks for the responses.
You're not able to change the colour of the incoming call LED, as the colour can only be changed when the screen is off, and when a call comes in, the screen lights up.
Is it a new thing since froyo, that you only get a trackball illumination for notifications other than calls, when the screen is OFF?
I am new to Froyo, like the majority of other Nexus users who do NOT frequent these forums. So I am also new to the coloured trackball and getting my head around it.
I see a few other new froyo newbies reporting their trackball does not illuminate any more since their OTA. But like me, they probably overlooked that apart from phone calls, it seemingly only notifies you when the screen is OFF. Make sense when you think about it, as notification will be in the notification bar with screen on and no need for trackball glow.
Next question.. What is supposed to display if two concurrent notifications occur for different colored events. Just the first color or perhaps a sequence (or even a blend of the two colors - joking)? Seems to me it just displays the most recent item. Is that correct?
A little annoying that the native google apps themselves don't support the colored trackball.
Anyway seems plenty of room for 3rd party apps to improve things. Like occulting different colors at the same time for differing notification sources. Multiple flashes to quantify number of new notifications.
Tried Blink but it did not really fit the bill for me.
So I am currently running with just ChompSMS telling me a unique color for SMS and I am looking for way to improve the rest.
Green is GV. It's controlled by the app.

he means the green color notification is controlled by google voice ... means you have a notification in google voice (GV)
Hi everyone,
In my apps such as Whatsapp,Gmail and Messages, I set up Notification Sound within the app to a custom sound that I have. However, when I receive a message, both the default notification sound (the one I set up in Settings > Sounds) still triggers as well as my custom notification sound. This completely defeats the purpose of setting up custom sounds.
Is there a way to turn off the stock notification sound when I set a custom notification sound in my apps?

Set your default to the same custom sound...

That would defeat the purpose of giving different apps different notification sounds ...
Does anyone else have this issue and know a solution?

Apparently you are the only one.
What I meant by my previous post was to set your default sound to the same sound as your custom sound. That way when it does sound you will only hear your custom sound. Also make sure your custom sound is actually a compatible sound meaning an mp3.

Ok say I set my default sound to the same as my custom sound.
If I wanted a different notification sound for WhatsApp and Viber, how do I achieve that?

Those apps should have their own internal notification sounds that would override system sounds and play their sound independent of the system. Make sure you do not have AT&T messenger active or set as default. It brings all your messages into one location from all sources and as a result also combines all sounds to the same.
Here's one of those "how do I do this with Tasker?" questions...
I've got my SMS app set to show a preview of an incoming text. That's fine normally, but at night I use "Night Clock" on my phone as my alarm clock, and if I get a text it pops up a preview, which both blocks the time shown and creates a brighter screen that is annoying. I've already got a "night time" Tasker profile that handles volumes and notifications, so there's no audible effect, but I'd like to not get the preview during that same time. Anyone have any idea how to disable the text message preview when this profile is active? The message app is Verizon's message+, btw.
Thanks.

Does Do Not Disturb block visual notifications?

I would say that belongs to app feature. Maybe you can try to have Tasker auto dismiss it, but it will still show up first.

DnD does not block the notification. And auto-dismissing it would be fine. Now I need to figure out how to do that. Thanks!

yeah from what I understand DnD would just disable sounds and lights, what an app tries to show is something else. Maybe you can can have Tasker detects the popup and tap to dismiss it. You can also try the AutoInput plugin.
Ahhhh, auto dismissing notifications is easy!
Use AutoNotification - it's a fantastic app that's part of a set of tools.
https://joaoapps.com/autonotification/
You can do SO much with them. With tis app, all you'll do is monitor for new non-persistent notifications, then dismiss them.
One thing I use it for is when I unlock my phone, and I have a new SMS, Whatsapp, or email, the notification shade slides down so that I have easy access to them.
I did try out AutoNotification and it worked for me. I intercept the new message notification then, if do not disturb is on (nighttime setting), I send the back button, which dismisses the pop-up. Cool.
Thanks!

Hi, I am finding ways to change notification intervals for WhatsApp or LINE notifications because it is so annoying when its notifications comes repeatedly.
I know there is Xposed plugin, but Tasker itself seems to have lots of ways to control system and notifications variables, so there can be a way.
Is there anyone has an idea to make this come true? Thank you.
IMPORTANT: You need these for this to work:
Tasker
AutoNotification
AutoTools
You know how some apps allow you to create floating bubbles (chat heads) when you receive a chat from one of your contacts?
Would you like to have that available for all chat apps?
Check it out!
Import the project from here, enable the profiles and you'll start seeing the bubbles right away!
Just imported the project and it's working flawlessly. The default replying from the notification drawer requires a couple of tapping and swiping, but this works in a very easy way and over any app. Thanks!!

Yes, the notification panel doesn't show any activities with this project. First I installed the Auto Notification app, gave all permissions. After a few minutes it started giving me the popup messages from WhatsApp and SMS organizer.

Thanks, yes , after some time its working now.
How would one expand this to show MMS?
How can I get rid of the vibration when I click on the bubble?
I cant seem to get this working. All the permissions are given and Apps are installed (even Auto Tools since this was needed). Does Autotools need to be the Pro Version for this to work?
Love this project, thanks.
One question: i would like to turn of the toast notifications on the bottom of the screen. Any tips?

Go to Auto Tools, Logs and Alerts, uncheck all boxes under Web Screens.
This looks great. But it doesn't work at all for me. Had it installed for 3 days now and I never have gotten a bubble to show up. I've granted all necessary permissions too.
Didn't work for me either. Imported project and no go. Mine already showed it had the bubble option in messages notifications. Was hoping this would work. Pixel 3 xl android 10 with root. No go.
For those who couldn't get it to work, did you create a task in Tasker adding the plugins?
Is there a way to customize the Avatar in the floating icon? Like in the video shown? Mine just had the generic emoji guy.
I really wanted this to work as well, but it has been a no go on my Pixel 2 XL. Would have do to with being on Pie?
@rafe83 @S8rooted&tooted
I just imported it and it works fine on a pixel 3XL, Pie.
From the description notes when you import the project;
IMPORTANT: Make sure to enable the AutoNotification Notification Listener to make this work. Open Tasker > Menu > More > Android Settings > Notification Listener > Enable AutoNotification.

That is the only configuration that is require.
As long as AutoNotification can intercept notifications that have a "reply" action, the chat head should appear. If not, look in your Tasker run log.
@Kwandds
The profile, "Intercept Notifications With Reply Action" contains a default icon for when the notification intercept does not contain an icon that can be used. It's set in A4
A4: Variable Set [
Name:%anicon
To:https://previews.123rf.com/images/metelsky/metelsky1809/metelsky180900233/109815470-man-avatar-profile-male-face-icon-vector-illustration-.jpg
Recurse Variables: Off
Do Maths: Off
Append: Off
Max Rounding Digits: 3
If [ %anicon !Set ]
So should the icon change depending on who is sending the message? Because on mine it's always the same default icon.
Thanks

The notification intercept is looking for an icon in the notification that triggers the profile. If %anicon is not set, you get the default.

The AutoNotification event that triggers the profiles scrapes the notification for various information, including an icon. The variable "%anicon" ("an" represents AutoNotification) would contain the path to the icon in the notification if it exists.
Thanks to everyone on here. So I tried again and got it working. Only thing I did was go threw and select in the profile which apps to use. Question, anyone know how to change the color of background and size of pop up that displays. I wanna go a little rounder than the square text input that pops up. And thank you guys for posting different things to try. Finally just kept screwing around and found in each switch in the profile has to be set to package if it can be.
