I have 2 phones:
nexus 5 running lineageos 7.1.1
zenfone 2 running android 5 (asus stock)
Both phones after going in standby they drop wifi connection. and by drop i mean it stops working but if i wake up the phone there is no sign of searching network or anything that suggest its searching for network.
i know this because im using whatapp web and it says phone disconnected. and for more than 20 minutes...i got tired of waiting for connection
After i start to use the phones again, the web whatsapp resume its functions.
This does not happen if i use only 4G and disable wifi. not even when phone goes in standby.
Is there any way to make wifi stay on even after phone goes in standby.
Ive already marked the wifi connection to be always on. zenphone 2 "power saving" mode is put to performance also.
so is there anything else that i can do to fix this? both phones are rooted.
i guess nobody has any kind of clue

I have a pretty stock HTC One, and I'm on a particularly sub par data plan, where each 'data session' is rounded up.
I have wifi both at home and at work, good wifi signal and am v close to router etc. I find that if I put the phone into standby and then use it again 5-10 minutes later, it is still connected to wifi, all good. If I leave it for 20-30 minutes, when I wake it, it latches onto the 3g network for a few seconds and then realises there is wifi and connects to that.
I have things like Google+, FB messenger and push mail which I presumed required a constant connection.
Any thoughts on why the wifi appears to be being turned off as it entertains deep sleep?
I can just switch data off when at home or work but I don't want to have to rely on that sort of thing, and the apps that do that for you based on GPS etc aren't that appealing either.
Look in adavanced settings under wifi. Should be able to set it to keep wifi on during sleep

Thanks for the reply. Yup I have that set to always. Seems to happen both on my home and work wifi, despite great signal strength. Sometimes it seems it does happen even if the phone is unused for 5-10 minutes.
I assume this is actually pretty common and most if not all phones do this, you probably wouldn't notice unless you were tracking each connected data session.
I was thinking the phone must do something like, wake, spend x time looking for wifi while simultaneously connecting to 3g, then when wifi is found it is connected to and the 3g connection is dropped. I guess I'd be looking to delay/postpone that connecting to the 3g network for 5 seconds or so to give the wifi time to establish.
Probably nothing I can do really.
I haven't noticed any problem staying connecetd to wifi while sleeping and Ive looked at the notification bar many time before ever unlocking the phone, just to make sure wifi stayed connected as its suppose to and it does. Only see 3g when Ive set it keep wifi on during sleep to only when plugged in and I dont have it plugged in. I also have best wifi performance checked. Dont think that makes much difference though. Im also stock at the moment

What is the rom that you use? Did you do clean flash? Did you flash any kernel? Did you try to forget the network and reconnect again? More information is needed.

i'm using the stock ROM but i did unlock and root. i am using a asus RT-N56U with WPA2 personal AES encryption for security. Phone set for best wifi performance, wi-fi band on auto, keep wi-fi on during sleep.
I can connect and it will work usually especially if i turn off wifi then turn it back on. However, the problem exists that the length of time the connection will remain with the ability for loading webpages/video is unknown. It could be 2-5 minutes, but i've also tested it and its been able to hold a connection while constantly streaming a netflix movie.
I'm wondering if it could be resolved by setting my phone to connect to my home network via a static ip? seen things related to that elsewhere. It is very annoying and troublesome to have to constantly turn on/off the wifi when im sitting in the same place. I could be reading a webpage then click a link on it and then it will fail to load even though showing i am connected. Then i have to switch on and off. This has happened plenty of times within 30 minutes i've had to turn it on and off 3-4 times. To me that is not "functional".
is it something with my phone or router? or both?

you definitely shouldnt have to connect with a static. it may help but what about when u r in public do you still have the problem?? if not then maybe u should try a new home networking device or play around with the security setting on ur router.
my wifi seems to work fine other than my speedtest results are only 3mbps up. i should be getting as much as 55, i used to get up to 40 on my gs3. i am totally stock, with the same settings.

Do you have sleep mode turned on, in settings, power? Or power saver?

Maybe try unplugging both your modem and router for 10 seconds and then plug them back in.

Hi.
I've recently started having lots of difficulty when moving out of range of my home's wireless signal in the phone picking up and connecting to the Mobile Data network.
Specifically:
1) Run phone for ages at home using wireless
2) Walk out of house, out of range. Wireless connection goes unconneced
3) Wait for Mobile Network to connect, have at least 3 bars of signal - fails, no E/G/H Sign, Network indicator stays white ( So far waited up to 3 hours)
4) Reboot Phone, instant Mobile Network Connection @ H
Things I have tried:
1) Turning Wireless off before leaving range of wi-fi, sometimes this works ( circa 1 in 20)
2) Turning Phone to Airplane Mode & Back - sometimes this works ( circa 1 in 15 ).
Turning Airplane mode on can take about 4 minutes, as though something is waiting for a closure timeout. Normally, this takes about 5 seconds.
3) Phone calls are intermittant during this time - sometimes I can make them, sometimes i can't.
4) While in range, turn phone off/on again so a "clean" boot, then walk out of range. No affect on ability to reconnect.
Check Phone Status under About Phone, the Mobile Network States reports "Not Connected"
It's really annoying, as I want to use the phone to during breakfast to check the latest traffic information and map updates from Google Maps before I leave home, then get in the car and go, not reboot the phone.
Has anyone else suffered a similar problem?
Phone Specifics:
Motorola Razr I XT890
Android 4.1.2 Stock
T-Mobile
Is there some investigative
Thanks!
I've had exactly the same issue on/off for weeks.
Not found a reason/fix for it yet, although I've been loath to do a full wipe with how busy I am atm.

Hmm.
At least we know we are not in the same boat, and a recent forum query on Engagdet highlighted others.
I've tried to capture a bug report to give me some logs to look at, but that's not working at the moment either !
Thinking it might be an "Always On" app related problem such as sykpe or amazon mp3 :S
The lollipop fairy brought me a fun quirk where my phone loses it's wifi connection after about an hour of standby, and then can't find any networks until I kill it and bring it back. Anyone else suffered through this and have any pointers? It's after about an hour but always within three regardless of power and happens at any location unless I'm moving. So five hours on a car dash is fine, but no wifi after sitting through a movie. Weird as hell...
Stock lollipop, rooted, twrp
Any apps that may be causing sleep?? Have you dissabled any services of any kind?? Have you turned "allways allow scanning" off under advanced wifi settings? Wifi sigs do fluctuate.
Have you had lock problems were you know its at least a good 2.4 hopefully a 5g band??

Wicked wakelocks and WiFi issues
Just yesterday I started having wicked WiFi issues, where both 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks would connect, then immediately disconnect, then connect again a few seconds later for it to just do the same thing, over and over. It keeps sending reports everytime it does it. I haven't factory reset though, but I'm going to have to.
Also, I keep getting insane wakelocks. Android OS is the worst, causing 7h+ of wakelocks in a 10h day. Google Play Services is pretty bad too, around 6h+ in that same 10h day.
Anyone else having major issues like this with their Note5? I have the N920W8 model, which I can't really find any info about anywhere
Im having similar wifi issues. Initially trying to connect to my 5ghz N home network (wpa2 psk) connect attempt, drop, connect attempt drop rinse and repeat. After a while it connects and stays connected, however, connecting to any web pages is painfully slow (like a super slow dns lookup), and i frequently get failed web page loading errors or failed to download apps from teh app store. Wifi calling is useless in this state. The same thing happens on an open hotspot network at work (2.4ghz) and the corporate (5ghz n) network. The note will ususally eventually drop wireless and force me back onto LTE. I looked at my data counter after just 3 days, and had used 27gigs of LTE, which is more data than I've used on tmobiles network since last year. Had some spotty wireless issues with teh note 4 rev 3 5.1.1 as well prior, but only had that phone for about 10 days before swapping for teh note 5. Prior to that I had the nexus 6 and no wireless issues on the same networks.
J'ai le même problème avec le 5g damn!!!
Luckily i have a dual dualband router, I set up the alternate AP 2.4ghz N wpa2 psk and the phone appears to be working fine at the moment on that network.
I ended up factory resetting and it appears working for now. A static IP address (DHCP reserved in the router) seemed to help.
Another issue I have though is when disconnecting from WiFi and connecting to mobile data, it seems to have DNS resolution issues until I turn data off and then back on. Not sure if it's the phone or the carrier (Wind Mobile) but it's pretty consistent
Not seeing these issues on my W8.

I'm just having dreadfully slow WiFi on my att model, but it doesn't drop connection
Dial *#0011# and click "wifi settings" from the menu at the top right corner. Turn off power saving mode and restart the phone, see if that does the trick.
If not, google search "note 3 wifi issues" and/or "note 4 wifi issues"and look for answers there. In all likelihood the problems that are being experienced with Wi-Fi on the note 5 are similar to the Wi-Fi issues that the predecessors experience when they launched.

It's Lollipop. It's a known bug in the software since Nov 2014 and Google hasn't addressed it. I too had issues with my WiFi when I first purchased it. But I found the work around. The bug is in the security software. The WpA2-PSK with TKIPS or AES which is a catch all, reeks havoc on our WiFi chips. It doesn't allow the phone to have proper DNS addresses resulting in severely slow internet or dropped connections.
Solution: Change your security standard to WPA/WPA2-PSK without AES or TKIPS.

Is that a phone setting or a router setting?
Hey guys,
I've got an Australian Samsung note 5 that has wifi problems. It started not working all of a sudden so i decided to go along with it but after a while i felt the need to try and make it work again. So i went into recovery mode and factory resetted (thinking that it would help) but then on the boot up after i came to the setup screen and found out that i was screwed. The samsung setup screen doesnt let you go past the setup screen without any wifi. Please help, i wanted to post a thread but im new to this community so i am restricted.
Thanks
p.s wifi networks can be detected but only when the phone is held right next to the router.
I fixed same problem of wifi, its a setting in phone, but you need to root phone, its system setting in system folder.
Any updates on this? Im running one 920g completely stock and another 920g with hybrid n7 port v9. Both have this same issue.
