Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

Testers needed
We would like to get each S4 Mini up again for OCT-N.
Thanks to those who already tested, we now have weeklies starting the week of 3/10/17.
Downloads for all four supported variants are at: https://www.teamoctos.com/oct-n-weekly-lineageos-base/
For those using the US Cellular variant, here is an updated TWRP Recovery.
twrp serranolteusc --> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634751007
** This is also officially supported on twrp.me but only for the serranolteusc. I am currently testing their 3.1.0-0.
All other variants of TWRP can be found on Ne0Zone's thread.
twrp other variants --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678420
If you post on this thread, please mention which variant/device you have.
Thanks

They should work now, I had to change them from "restricted" to "public" folders.

Great to see OctOS back up, the unified thread is a good idea, 99% of the issues are common

Flashed will test this whole week thanks for your work serranosdd

Thank you @jason972000
I've flashed OCT-N-M0-7.1.1-20170304-serranoltexx.zip with open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20170305.zip and so far no problems at all(a few hours). It seems like a really mature rom, plenty of customizations and no reboots/fc's. I'm impressed.
For anyone wanting a stable nougat rom with pixel launcher, I would recommend it. I'll test it for a few more days for battery life and other things.

I have flashed rom serranodsdd Around 6 hours Ago and its look very mature and stable.

So far, the US Cellular variant has been posted on main website for OCT-N Lineage for the past few weekly builds.
But if you want to see the other variants to start showing up on weekly builds, I need testers to confirm some initial builds are looking good.
Here are links for testers to get the rom from AFH:

Once I get feedback for each of the GSM variants we can decide if it is time to get them added to the weekly builds.

I try 20170304-serrano3gxx zip with opengapps 20170205 and everything ok, no fc, reboots, etc, everything works well (ril, camera, speaker, etc), but the rom does not have a browser, have two file explorer, and does not like pixel launcher, but for me the rom is already stable :good::good:
I return to aokp

Thank you Jason. Great work and great ROM.

Will download and test serranoltexx in a few hours

awesome rom bro
its good that we octos back with nougat.
will test and give you a nice feedback
thanks again

Awesome !!! :victory:
Thx Team OctOS!! :good:
I love this ROM!!
Yeah!!!!

During these 3 days I have been my daily driver and the rom is stable enough ..... Very nice in my opinion. All the features have worked without any problem for me. Thank you for your good work.

One week of testing done.
ROM very stable great ROM for a daily driver like everyone said. I put this ROM after AOKP
This baby is ready to go official
Thank you for your work

I agree with the last two users. Very stable and feature-full. I've used it for almost a week and no issues at all. :good:

At least as good as AOKP and AICP(7.1.1). IMO nougat is better on battery than android 5 or 6
I noticed on the Oct OS site that we have gone official. Although not on the download list yet.......
Thanks again @jason972000

Weeklies are building now and they will include all four serrano devices. Thanks for testing everyone.

I'm running the USC version on an SCH-i435L, and although I had to change my build prop to make it default to Verizon, which is what I use, it works perfectly. (Also no radio built in) I'm not sure what the codename for this particular one is, however, if it's one of the listed ones, I'd be happy to verify it works for you. If it's not one of the listed ones, I can again confirm the USC version works.
One bug I have noticed is that although it was supposedly fixed for the regular S4, the back lights for the back and menu buttons still don't seem to work (at least for me) on the S4 Mini.
Two things I'd love to see added to the kernel, which have been done before for older builds of Android on S4 Mini's, would be fast charge (as seen here) and OTG support. (As seen here)

A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.

If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-L.

DATA/3G SIM Switching
hello>>>>
i appreciate your hard work. the rom is too smooth.
still smoth with 5 modules in xposed.
it would be very good anjd great if you fixed the Data/3g sim switching bugs
Nice Work.... Lovely And Smooth ROM
I appeciate your hard works.
I found your rom is very smooth even if i have 9 xposed modules running.
I m currently using your latest build.
i love the way that you keep all customization in Tentacles. its easy to navigate.
it would be better if you added some other features like Gesture Lock Screen, App Side Bar, System Animations with duration, Data Traffic Monitors, screenshots delay etc.
moreover, your ROM is the best ROM i have ever used.

i flashed xposed framework and installed 8 modules. all are working properly. the use of xuimod makes the rom a little bit slow and laggy. but when i apply custom patch from lucky patcher (e.g. Greenify), the result comes like this "patch already done or pattern error and failed". and after closing this when i open an app it automatically closes without any popup message. and i have to reboot my device. what's the problem?????

A release M2 build had been put out.
You can find it here: https://www.teamoctos.com/release-builds/
Thanks for this, was curious, do you happen to have the last 5.1.1 lollipop file for the serranoltexx i9195? If yes could you possibly share it? Thanks in advance.

We were not building this device until last week so we do not have any older builds for it.
However, if your looking for CM-12.1, I think you can find the older builds here: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=serranoltexx

Hi. I just made a clean install of the latest release version of the ROM with open gapps pico. I am getting a message saying that synchronization of google contacts failed. Tried to install the nano version of open gapps and I am still getting the same message. Is there a solution to this;

Hi,
Other people have had this problem with the Resurrection Remix and Pico and Nano Gapps. They flashed the BlackGapps of Team TBO and the problem is solved.

Bye.
Hi there, i would like to know about this rom... how is it?
I mean, oriented to perfomance and kinda "slim" or "flat"... without stupid adds and with no need of a beauty launcher?
I am downloading it now... i will try it and give feedback.

Open Gapps corrected the sync fail. I downloaded the pico version yesterday after an announcement they made that they fixed the problem and now is working fine.
I have a problem with the keyboard in landscape mode. When I turn the phone it occupies only the left half of the screen. It works fine but it is annoying to the eye.

@tkontonis, is that the keyboard that comes with the OCT-M rom or is that a different keyboard app? The keyboard should fill the width of the screen when you turn it to landscape. Mine does.

It's the keyboard that comes with the ROM. The only difference is that I installed a theme. I tried to uninstall the theme and load the octos one but the keyboards behavior didn't change. The theme's name is "effortless" from the play store.
Found a solution. I went to recovery and wiped dalvik and cache, rebooted the phone and the keyboard now works as expected.
Hi all,
Here's a little feedback on the latest Weekly (17/09/2016).
Everything works fine. [emoji106] [emoji106]
GPS, keyboard, FM radio, MMS, BT, no problem. The theme engine is really great.

You can underclock with an app like kernel adiutor. Over-clocking is only possible with a kernel that allows it. You could try Remix kernel for that. I haven't used it on this rom before, so do a nandroid backup. It should work, but no promises.....

MOVING NEXUS AND PIXEL DEVICES TO LINEAGEOS BASE
FEBRUARY 7, 2017
AARON WEIS
Oh no what have we done?!
For the past few months Team-OctOS has been maintaing two seperate Nougat code bases. An AOSP based branch for the Nexus/Pixel devices and a LineageOS based branch to support all of the other devices. This also means that team has been split working on two seperate projects. In order to get the team back to being a team we’ve made the tough decision to discontinue the AOSP branch. All current officially supported devices will still be supported using the LineageOS base OctOS.
Expect to see weekly builds for the below devices on the Oct-N Weekly (LineageOS base) download page begining Feb 10th.
Nexus 5 (hammerhead)
Nexus 5x (bullhead)
Nexus 6 (shamu)
Nexus 6p (angler)
Pixel (sailfish)
Pixel XL (marlin)
*You will need to wipe data. No dirty flashing when switching to the new base
We will be hard at work as a whole team again developing OCT-N from one common branch.
Team OctOs presents Oct-N.
We maintain a current release record and change-log on our website: http://www.teamoctos.com

With AOSP roms aren't we losing the perks of the camera based software optimization? That is the main reason I've held off from flashing a non original pixel based rom. Feedback please!

Reboot

Reboot

Great to see this room here! Going to test this later tomorrow when I am home again.
Oh man, another one.
Been using OctOS on my G3 forever (also a tester). So of course I gotta try it.
So many ROMs, so little time. ?
EDIT: I don't see a download for this device at the site. Under what device name is it? There's no ailsa_ii or axon there.
ZTE Axon 7 A2017U, AospExtended v4.3 ROM, Llama Sweet Kernel, NanoMod-microG (NoGapps), Tapatalk 4.9.5
So many roms. How do i try all of these . Thanks for your work
OctOS was pretty awesome on the 5x. I support this build!

I couldn't see it too. There is no link for our device
Where is the ROM connection downloaded? I didn't find it for several times.

Cool great to hear
Looks like the build is out, anybody happen to install and run it?
Edit: I must say, first impression its pretty good. No custom kernel installed, the battery drain is better than other ROMs I've tried, customization isn't too bad, everything's smooth and the sound is great with Dolby Atmos. Excellent job devs.
Sent from my ZTEA2017U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Definitely agree no hiccups at all

Not in there
Trying this rom out now...boots pretty fast.
I see this is based on LOS so I'm sure I know the answer already, but for clarity and for others who have not done the required reading: Is there still the issue with randomly having to enable and disable speakerphone during a call to get the earpiece to work?

all custom roms have this bug But a user says to me he solved this bug with light patch, 2. Preview. Solved the call issue and improved overall sound quality by tons
Hm, I didn't even see that. I'll check it out at some point and see if that fixes it, unless someone else gets to it first, Of course I'm still stock rooted and haven't switched to LOS-based anything yet, which means I haven't confirmed the bug for myself lol.
